UF Recruitment 2003

I thought I'd start this "general info" thread, mainly because this is my alma mater & I'm interested in this stuff!

Anyway, the purpose is to post any general bits of information about UF's 2003 Recruitment that any of us find out...and can share.

For example, after seeing Auburn's bid matching list online, I emailed the UF Panhellenic President to ask if UF would do the same thing.

Unfortunately, the answer was no, but she was going to check w/ her advisor.

Maybe if they see that Auburn did it (and so quickly!)...they'll do it too!

And, by the looks of the Preregistration Page, there are 1121 PNMs rushing.

So, anyone else have any stats to share? http://smilies.crowd9.com/kao/chika/chirolp_bak1.gif

breathesgelatin 08-18-2003 12:49 AM

Just for everyone's info--

there are 3 PNMs at UF this year--

UFGatorGirl311, Flgidget, and bettie. bettie and Flgidget haven't been around for a bit, so I PMed them....

curlygirly 08-18-2003 04:55 PM

the PNM's are soo cute

A few PNM's saw me walking around my building this morning... and they asked me for directions to some of the houses!! It was sooo cute... and they were all dressed up.

Plus, as I was driving around, running some errands... I saw some of the girls doing their walkouts! (actually... just the Kappa's since they are on a pretty big road) It was really exciting! I don't think I have any residents rushing, but I do know that some residents in my area are rushing.

I'm so excited for bid day!

more UF Recruitment stats

I'm waiting for a fax to go through, so I have some time to post some more stats - though they're not "2003"...

The first "initiation" into greek life is not just being able to survive rush, of course, but trying to look cute while walking in 88 degree weather (feels like 94, acc to weather.com), & 56% humidity.

There are 16 NPC sororities - Check out this link to UF SORORITIES. Below are the ones who are NOT @ UF:

Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Xi Delta
Alpha Phi
Alpha Sigma Alpha
Alpha Sigma Tau
Gamma Phi Beta
Phi Sigma Sigma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Theta Phi Alpha

Anyway, here are some more stats:
- UF has 2 "sorority rows" - East Panhellenic Drive & West Panhellenic Drive. West is a straight street & it's back to back w/ East, which is horseshoe shaped. I know there must be a map someplace.

- the sororities that are not on either row are Kappa, Theta & Pi Phi. DZ doesn't have a house yet, but they're rushing out of the ATO house, which is across the street (if I recall correctly) from Kappa.

BUT! The distances kill when you're rushing. It's easy during first round, when you see the houses in order. But 2nd round, when you have 10 parties to go to - in random order - yikes!

- check out the houses at http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/ufarch/gallery.htm

That's all I can think of right now... I hope our UF Rushees check in sometime!

Go Gators! -=;==;<

UF56 08-18-2003 07:11 PM

Great info kdonline.....the ATO house is one the same side of the street as KKG. Its actually one of the biggest greek houses on the campus....good luck to all UF sororites!!!! I wish I could be there!!!

OleMissGlitter 08-18-2003 11:48 PM

Good luck to all UF GLOs! I hope they all post on here to tell us what's going on!

The pictures were good but they left some of us out :( I just wish I could see a pic of the DG house but for the life of me I can never seem to find one! LOL oh well! The houses I did see were beauties!

mmcat 08-28-2003 11:50 PM

impressive....you and she are gorgeous
no bid day shirts??

PhiMuLady150 08-29-2003 01:38 AM

I was impressed by the Vera Bradley monogrammed tote bags Tri Delta gave their new members:eek:

Kaydee_cutie 08-29-2003 02:07 AM

Aww....I would love to be able to get monogrammed Vera Bradleys for our new members *especially since the woman who owns and operates Vera Bradley is a KD :)*, but I don't think our rush budget would allow us to do so :( Oh well, guess we will just stick with t-shirts :)

curlygirly 08-29-2003 08:53 AM

Bid Day 2003

We did have Bid Day shirts for the new members.... along with a monogrammed baby tee for them... and they were all in their new member bag. After hanging out on the lawn, posing for a gazillion group photos and completely sweating our sorority butts off.... we had dinner. Most of the girls didn't put their shirts on until later that night when they changed into comfy clothing for our movie night in the living room. We set up a projection screen and watched "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." One of the songs from the movie, "It Feels Like Home to Me," was sung during the prefs ceremony. So needless to say, when the song came on... all the Kappas sang along! It was too cute!

And yes, the Tri-Delts do give their new members pink Vera Bradley bags. Along that note... I wish WE could give our new (& old!!!) members Kate Spade bags since SHE is a Kappa! LOL... ;)

Peaches-n-Cream 08-29-2003 12:34 PM

So many new sorority women. Thanks for posting the link to the pictures. :)

DGMarie 08-29-2003 05:22 PM

Tri Delta's

I have never seen so many Lilly Pulitzer dresses in one spot in my life. They were gorgeous girls! (I wanna Vera Bradley tote, too!!!) Didn't know they could do greek mongrams!

sueali 08-29-2003 05:58 PM

This may sound like a dumb question. Is vera bradley a southern thing, like lily pulitzer? Since reading about them I have looked at them on the internet and they are really cute, but I'm not sure I have ever seen anyone in vegas carrying one. I think I'm going to buy one, who knows I may start a trend.

DGMarie 08-29-2003 06:45 PM

don't know if it is southern or not. I've seen them here in Chicago quite a bit. I like them. They wash well, too.

You too can own your own....

Great pictures at flashonline of MANY florida schools! Thanks sooo much for sharing the link with ys. It was great to see the great new members of all the orgs at these schools back home. I sent the link along to my little sis in hopes she gets some ideas for where to go to college :)

And yes a great showcase of Lily!! Nice Vera bags and others there too..such great bid-day gifts! I'm so jealous!!

kdonline 08-30-2003 12:05 AM

You know, it's funny how everyone on GC is captivated by the Vera bags...!

I've had one for a year or so, undergone the torment of my friends & family for carrying a "diaper bag" or an "old lady's sewing bag" - to tell you the truth, they're not really popular in down here in Miami.

So, now that my mom got me a cute denim Coach bag for my birthday, I've "retired" my Vera.. maybe I'll bring it out when I have kids.. http://mysmilies.creativesell.net/otn/wink/wink2.gif

</hijack>

curlygirly 08-30-2003 12:24 AM

i agree!

I completely agree!! When I first saw them on campus, I thought they looked like diaper bags or old lady bags! I mean, they're cute and all... but I couldn't see myself owning one.

DGMarie 08-30-2003 01:00 AM

well, this mom of 2

actually HAS the Vera Bradley diaper bag. I have about four or five bags now and they aren't trendy, more classic. You gals are too young, perhaps, for them. To me, VB is a country club tennis and golf kind of feel. Preppy and maybe younger with the right style (although I would like to re affirm that I am by no means OLD!;)

curlygirly 08-30-2003 01:16 AM

hehe.... oops... didn't mean to offend anyone.

I have to agree with you on the bags... they are definitely 'classic' and have a country club/golf feel... that's why I really don't get them being on campus.

Glitter650 08-31-2003 04:36 AM

Lily Pulitzer/Vera Bradley MUST be fairly southern things...before reading about Lily on GC I had never heard of her dresses, and after learning about her clothing and doing some research I found out that only 1 store around here even carries her clothes... so coming to a rush party here in Nor Cali..(can't speak for so cal on the popularity of Lily as trends do differ from San Fran to LA) BUT you would definitely stand out wearing a lily dress here... although seems from the pics that lily is a dime a dozen...interesting.. NE WAY... I'm just glad I don't go to UF because from looking at the pictures I don't think I would've received a bid from a house there :( but all the new members look very happy and there sure is A LOT of sorority ladies in Florida AMAZING !!

Angels&Arrows 08-31-2003 05:48 PM

Glitter650, It's not just a southern thing! Both LP and VB are big in New England... or at least Masschusetts!

Well I suppose we are just out of it here in Cali on the whole Lily thing because they just aren't all that happening here, but since finding the ONLY store in San Fran that sells Lily I may just buy one and start a trend. :D

Vera Bradley is actually an Indiana thing. If you think it's big there... Good Lord, you haven't seen anything! She operates out of Ft. Wayne, IN and every sorority girl here has at least one. I know it's spreading across the USA, but it's fairly big in the midwest but especially in Indiana.

xo_kathy 09-23-2003 11:56 AM

OK, UFers, here's a question for you...

It seems from the pictures that *most* houses dress up in pretty dresses, get their new girls, happy dance, cry, hug, then change to comfy clothes. However I noticed one group, DPhiE I think, who were in casual attire with letter tanks. And their new members seemed to be dressed similarily. How do you know what to wear to Bid Day as a PNM? I know this is a silly question, but now I'm curious...

33girl 09-23-2003 12:05 PM

I am guessing that the photographer got to D Phi E after they all changed clothes. :) They look much comfyer - I can't imagine bid day in a dress.

curlygirly 09-23-2003 02:53 PM

I don't really know how DPhiE pulled it off on Bid Day with their girls....

BUT...with Kappa, we were all dressed up, did the whole song and dance, took our class and house photos.... and then went inside the house to eat dinner and watch a movie on a projection screen. The sisters lent the new members comfy clothes to wear, b/c we were all sprawled out on pillows and blankets on the floor watching the movie. It was a lot of fun, and it's definitely interesting to watch a girly movie with an ENTIRE sorority! LOL

But we dress up for our photos also.... it just sucks standing outside in the Florida/August sun for soooo long, waiting to take a picture. We were definitely all stinky and gross once we got inside... we were all joking about it!

Jill1228 09-23-2003 03:17 PM

No kidding! I almost thought: "if you do not have a Lilly, do NOT apply!" :D

I agree with this! It seems like I always see someone carrying a bag around campus.

I personally think the bags are butt ugly *ducks as fellow sorority girls throw their bags at my head*, but to eath her own. :D

I have been seeing LOTS AND LOTS of Vera Downtown lately.

It's scaring me.

I have never seen a Vera Bradley bag in my life. At least, I haven't noticed it. I have seen a lot of YSL white bag knock offs.
