Where were you when the lights went out?
That blackout was some mess. We didn't get our power on until 3am this morning. Lots of people are still without power. Well, I know where I was when the lights went out, on greekchat of course! boo hoo.
Of course there are conflicting statements about what really happened. Was it lightning, terrorism, and who's fault was it Canada or US? All I know it was soooooo inconvenient. Well, at least Chinese take out was still open. :p :D |
Has ANYTHING in the history of disaster been so bad that it's shut down Chinese take out? I remember this winter we had about 3 feet of snow (which is a lot for us in South Jersey) and those poor bastards were STILL delievering!
I guess what they say is true, only three things can survive a nuclear holocaust (besides the upcoming cast of Terminator 4): cockroaches twinkees and Chinese delivery mmmmm... pork fried rice.... |
Lights didn't go off in KY! We have power from Indy!
|
now they're blaming it on Ohio...probablythe first thing we've ever done to affect the rest of the country....well it wasn't my fault! southern ohio didn't go out
|
blackout
well- i was on the busiest road in my town caught in awful traffic and the normal 20 minute drive home took and hour and a half- out of control- they don'tknow what ahppened- apparently something similar happened in1965.... that the power got knocked out in the station by niagra falls.... who knows- we got it back at like 4 am...... you don't realize how depended you are on electricity till its not there anymore
|
I was at home. I was taking a nap and the dogs kept waking me up. I finally got up and then the power went out. It was out for a little over 12 hours here in Toronto. It came back on at 5am. All I here is the air conditioner start up again and the computer resetting itself.
Everything is working fine now except my cable. |
Ok so I am not on the East coast and most everyone here has power here in Columbia, except for MY house and Farmhouse. Stupid power people were working on our stuff last night and they put a bad generator in and EXPLODED all our lightbulbs, fried peoples TV's, computers, etc. and our AC doesn't work. It's at least 95 degrees here and we're trying to redo our walkout since Panhel changed the rules YESTERDAY and it is a mess. I just want to die, this sucks so bad!!!!!! :( At least I live in the annex and we have AC and everything but too bad I am not in here for the majority of the day, just for like 15 minutes. BOOOOOO!!!

I was at home, watching the whole thing on CNN. :D
Shouldn't this maybe go in the ChitChat forum? |
Chit chat
Oh my bad, I didn't scroll down far enough to see that there was a "chit chat forum" I guess its 20 lashes with a wet noodle for me.:D
|
OK, how's this for ironic.
I live in Colorado. Earlier this week, I'm sitting in my office and at about 4:30 PM, the power goes out. I wait until about 5:00 and give up and go home. At 7:30 that evening, the power at home goes out and doesn't come back on until 6:30 the next morning. I guess it just took a long time to get to the East Coast. (Betasiglady -- we'll let you live this time.) |
DA, you to funny!:) She was probably right!
Last night: HMMMM talking Bro Jono on Lonk Isle NY! He was drinking scotch, playing guitar, via the Light of a LXA Lamp! Well and talking to me of course!:D No eBay for the Elf last night, Damn in a pissy mood!:) Any Babys made Yesterday???? |
I was at work!! We didn't get power until 6:30 PM! It was crazy
|

I was at home, lights flickered, but I thought it was just my house... went downstairs to watch TV and randomly went to NBC, found out what was happening, then got on the phone calling my dad and sister who work and intern in the city, then my mom who was stuck on a train coming home from work.
|
You know what is terrible... here in Cali we have a radio station that is running this commercial and it starts out "we here at Live 105 care about our friends on the east coast and really depend on them, so we have come up with a solution... California needs money, New York needs power" Why don't we californians, for a nominal fee to those in need, string our extension cords across the country to our friends on the east coast to help them out then everybody's problems will be solved. Kinda wrong of them to make lite of such a horrible occurance... but I have to admit I did giggle at the thought of all those extension cords reaching across the country... I'm just glad everyone here seems to have been relatively safe I would hate to have gotten stuck in an elevator or the subway or something.... :(
|
I have a HUGE fear of elevators. I look at one, and tense up. My mom kept telling me to look at the TV at some people stuck in one and I couldn't even look at it!
Next time I'm in NY.... I'm never ever riding in the subway again! I was playing Play Station 2 and I thought my niece shut my game off cuz she kept messing with it. |
I was at school when the lights went out. When I got to Downtown Cleveland to transfer to another bus to get home, it was Almost kaos, but everyone got home safe. Our power didn't come until late friday morning.
|
I was at home, about to go out in traffic for a pizza

And then, there's last year's Ohio State Football team, who, arguably, gave us one of the best games in history. |
I was at my boyfriend's home when the power went out. I thought that it was just his apartment and kept flipping the switches in the power box. It did nothing. It finally dawned on me what was happening when I heard cars honking like crazy. Oh crap it's a blackout! We were without poweruntil 4:30 PM, water until 6:30, and hot water until Saturday morning. My shower this morning was the best one ever! :)
|
Ya know, I'm really surprised they didn't sacrifice the midwest's energy and transfer it to the east coast..they've done it before.
But anyway..when the lights went out I was chilling in the AC crusing on GC...teehee..and laughing at the people that think 90 degree weather is really hot..buncha wimps :p |
I was at my internship in NYC when the power went out...actually, I was going to the bathroom! I stayed in the stall for a few minutes thinking the power would go on, but it never did. So I got out of the bathroom and went into the office to find out what was going on and found out about the blackout. Then I walked down the 12 flights of stairs into the masses of people pouring out into the sidewalks and streets. I ended up walking from Madison Ave. and 55th Street to Port Authority to see if there were going to be any buses running anytime soon. But I was surrounded by thousands of other people, and started to feel a lil claustrophobic and decided to make the long trek to my dad's office all the way on 14th Street and Irving Place. To make the long story short, I slept uncomfortably on two chairs in my dad's office since I was stranded in NYC until the morning. Then my dad and I took the path home around 11am the next day. Although I had to sleep in NYC, I was fortunate enough to have a place to pass out that night, unlike those who were forced to sleep on the streets.

I was taking a nap. I woke up and was like, "Why is it so hot in here??" And then my mom told me what happened.
|
Well since I live in VA, I wasn't affected by the power outage. But the power used to go out at my apartment complex all the time when they were doing road construction right next to it, so I know what it's like to go for hours without power. One time, our power went out when I was in the middle of cooking dinner, and it didn't come back on for hours, so I had to throw everything away. I had just bought it so I was pretty mad.
I can only imagine how bad it must have been to have entire big cities blackout... My first thought when I saw it on the news was, "Oh my... wouldn't it suck to be stuck in an elevator?" Glad nothing too serious happened though :) |
Well I was in a plane coming back from Mexico. My plane landed in JFK at like 8, but there was only one terminal open and there was a plane in it and then there was a line for it so we had to sit and wait in the plane. Then because of the blackout, transportation wasn't running so taking a cab was our only way of getting home. It was also the only way of getting home for just about everyone else, so it took us an hour and a half just to get a cab (how often does that happen in NYC?) By the time we got home it was like 1am.
