Crazyocutie's rush

Wow, rush starts this time next week. I am so incredibly excited about it. I can't wait to see how greek life really is. Along with that though, I am extremely nervous. I am a sophmore and I am worried that some people will have a problem with that. I sure hope not though. The other problem is that I can be really shy. It all depends though. Sometimes I can be really chatty and other times not. Can anyone give me advice about how to get over my nerves?

ToBeSororityGrl 08-12-2003 05:05 PM

Like you, I can be the shyest person in a group, and sometimes I can be the most talkative. I notice I am more talkative when I let my guard down and just try and talk without worrying what someone is thinking, maybe you could try that. Just be yourself! Make sure the outfits you choose to wear make you feel good about yourself! When you look in the mirror and say "damn I look great," you'll feel great and have that glowing type of confidence!

crazyocutie 08-12-2003 05:08 PM

Thanks. I already have all my outfits picked out. I really do think that confidence in your appearance does have something to do with how people percieve you and how you present yourself.

crazyocutie 08-12-2003 06:57 PM

Yea.. so I have become addicted to this site. There are so many neat things on here. It is just making me more excited for rush. I guess my little nervous bout is over for now. I just can't wait to get back to Orlando and start this thing for real. I miss it up there. I feel like it is my new home. Hopefully it will be even more of a home with a whole bunch of sisters to help me along my way.

If you think nervousness might return, you could check out some GC threads that give tips on questions that you may be asked, and questions you may want to ask. For instance, there's one titled "What questions should I be prepared to answer?" Sometimes it helps reinforce your confidence just to know you have thought about or even practiced some replies and a question or two.
Thank you so much. I am definitely planning on practicing my responses to the questions. I also am trying to think of some good questions to ask that will be appropriate.

Good luck, Crazyocutie! There's so much advice on these threads, but I always recommend chloe's long but well thought out list. May you get the bid of your choice!

Now, this is pre-rush advice - but very sound!

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-12-2003 09:00 PM

Good Luck with recruitment! Where are you rushing?

Nichole

mmcat 08-12-2003 10:04 PM

dress confidantly...have something in your head to either ask or talk about...and keep your eyes, ears and heart open.
lol

TriSigma4Life 08-12-2003 10:25 PM

Good luck!! Just remember to relax and have fun. You're going to meet some awesome girls who are just as nervous and excited as you are (on both sides of the recruitment process!). I think that recruitment is a great way to meet lots of great people! :) Once again, best of luck!

Nichole

I am rushing at UCF. Our chapters are

Alpha Delta Pi
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Kappa Delta
Pi Beta Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Zeta Tau Alpha

Pretty good choices if you ask me!

crazyocutie 08-12-2003 10:34 PM

Thanks everyone for all of your well wishes and tips. I will take them all to heart. :)

crazyocutie 08-12-2003 10:37 PM

Ahh!!

So I just tried on the dresses I have already. Well they fit and everything, but I just don't like them. I wish that I had unlimited funds so that I could just buy new clothes all the time. I guess tomorrow I am going to hit up the mall and see if I can find something cute for kinda cheap. If not, I can always wear these dresses, I just would like them to look a lot better then they do.

i know how you feel. even the new clothes i bought have me worried. you should try looking for accessories to spice up your clothes

crazyocutie 08-12-2003 11:41 PM

To Pixell and Smiley21:
Thank you for the tips on my dresses. Maybe that will change how I feel about them.. that is, if I find some good accessories.

Question

I am curious about something. I am now worried about my GPA. I mean it is ok.. but not excellent. I have a 2.95. When I applied for recruitment I had a 3.5. Do you think that this will affect the way the sororities at my school see me? Should I tell my Rho Gamma that my GPA has dropped since I applied so that the sororities don't think that I am trying to lie about it? Also do you think that my current GPA and my sophmore status hurt my chances of getting a bid? I mean I do have the full intent to bring my GPA back up, and I was hoping with the study programs that some sororities on my campus have, it will help me a little bit.
I always can find something else to worry about. Shesh.

pinkyphimu 08-13-2003 01:33 AM

cc-
don't stress!!! greek life will publish the list with current gpa's. no one will think that you lied. everyone knows that things happen. almost 10 years later, i am still thinking that the d i got in chemistry when i was a freshmen is going to somehow adversely affect my life...lol. it hasn't! as long as you meet the min requirements to rush and for each chapter, you shouldn't have to worry about it!

i am not familiar with your school, but there are plenty of people who go through rush as a sophomore...check out blazercheer's rush for some inspiration. relax, have fun, and know that there are tons of people rooting for you!!!

crazyocutie 08-13-2003 01:56 AM

Wow thank you so much for that. I keep having little spats of nervousness. I think that I am just anxious to get back to school.

KappaKittyCat 08-13-2003 10:12 AM

Crazyocutie,

Yay for a Recruitment story with a Kappa chapter. I'm excited.

One caution: I know that we do have a few UCF actives on the boards, so I'd use discretion in naming names.

Best wishes. *sends happy thoughts*

-KKC

crazyocutie 08-13-2003 10:20 AM

Thanks. I will not be using names until when/if I get my bid! Can't wait until that day!!

ajuhdg 08-13-2003 10:21 AM

GOOD LUCK! And, you have been officially added to the When does the fun begin? rush schedule!

Keep us posted! You have certainly come to the right place for support and advice!

AZpinkkittie 08-13-2003 10:26 AM

Good luck from another Sophmore PNM. It made me nervous too, but there's not much you can do about it. I've learned from GC though, that's it's probably not going to be a huge deal for you. Just be yourself and wow their socks off :D

crazyocutie 08-13-2003 10:48 AM

Thank you. Good luck to you. I have no clue what I would do if I had never heard about GC. I think I would be even more worried then I am now. That's a scary thought.

crazyocutie 08-13-2003 01:50 PM

Today has been a pretty worry free day. Just the general anxiety of going back to UCF. I really miss it up there. Such a great place. I have a question though. I have been reading through some of the threads and it seems as though some people find out who their rho gamma is before rush actually starts. Is this normal for all schools or are some girls just really lucky?

GiantsChic 08-13-2003 03:15 PM

I just wanted to wish you both luck, coming from someone who didn't pledge til her sophomore year :) enjoy the experience and we can't wait to hear about it!

breathesgelatin 08-13-2003 10:58 PM

mmcat 08-13-2003 11:15 PM

ditto...ditto...ditto
you are well prepared, will look lovely, so now just relax and concentrate on the experience. let yourself have fun and enjoy the opportunity to meet new people. you should be golden.
lol

SDTSarah 08-13-2003 11:33 PM

Also, do you have a Kohls by you? They sometimes have really, really cute things for REALLY cheap. If you're worried about your outfits, that might be one place to work. You can probably find some sundresses that are really discounted.

crazyocutie 08-14-2003 11:58 AM

Thank you all for the well wishes. I am ready to get this show on the road.
SDTSarah- We don't have a Kohl's but if I would have thought about it earlier, I looked at their website and they have some things on clearance. I could have gotten a dress from there. Dang!!

ADPi~Ally 08-14-2003 12:12 PM

Sweetie, don't worry about the clothing, it's only icing on the cake. What's most important is to be yourself, show what a wonderful person you are, and have fun. You will find the sorority that you feel at home with and will accept you for who you are not what clothes you wear. Just relax and have fun :)

Icing on the cake...I love it! So true too. Check out Ross too if you're really sure you need a new outfit, very cheap stuff and a little searching the racks can sometimes bring you a reward!! Sounds like you don't though! :)

I live near UCF and hear good things about greek life there. In fact I was on Aloma and 436 this morning and was going to drive down to campus for a little self tour but decided to go home. Anyway, Have a great time and best of luck!

You should have stopped by. We have a very nice campus and our houses are gorgeous.

ADPi~Ally and ZTAMich Thanks for that. I know clothing really isn't that important, but I want to look good so that I feel good about myself and feel free to be who I am.

crazyocutie 08-14-2003 03:45 PM

I just got back from the mall. I went to Dillard's to look at the dresses that they have on sale since I only have a limited amount to spend. I have budgeted for if I get into a house. So I found the perfect dress. It was only $25 and looks awesome on me. It is black with red and white stripes randomly all over it. I am so happy. I will be wearing it for pref night. Now I really can't wait!!

ADPi~Ally 08-14-2003 04:37 PM

wohoo, that's great u found something u like :). And I understand about the clothes, you do what makes u happy.

We have Ross too. I just stopped by the mall on my way home from stopping by my work. Otherwise I probably would have gone there. It was lucky that I found the dress. Thank you for the well wishes. :)
