I like Giant for bakery/deli

I like Safeway for my United Airlines points

I like Shoppers for donuts and cheap prices

I totally forgot about Wegman's!! A sister of mine used to bring me cookies from there after a trip home!! LOL

Munchkin03 08-11-2003 11:50 AM

Wegman's is great.

I'm a Whole Foods girl myself, but I will be 90 blocks away from one when I move. Perhaps I'll find a suitable organic grocery in my new neighborhood. I won't be caught dead in Wal-Mart for groceries.

Kristin AGD 08-11-2003 11:50 AM

Dallas is too big, so within five minutes of my house I have...

Tom Thumb
Kroger
Albertson's
Minyard's
SuperWalmart

Central Market
Sam's

In Newport, RI (well, on Aquidneck Island) the larger markets are...

I heart Wegman's. Bethlehem got one a year and a half ago and I will miss being around it.

I definetly miss it now that I'm in NYC and my closest supermarket is sketchy Met Food....

sigmagrrl 08-12-2003 09:23 AM

I forgot a NYC one:

D'AGASTINO'S!!

I used to love the D'Agastino's jingle when I was younger!'

"Love that D'Agastino's, love that Dag, Dag, Dag!.
The recipes for fun are in your Dag Dag Bag!
Love that Deli! Oh, Love that meat!"

And I can't remember the rest :(

I also remember the Chock Full O' Nuts coffee jingle! LOL

"Chock Full O' Nuts is that heeeea-venly coffee. Better stuff a millionaire's money can't buy!" LOL

Sorry, that was a bit of a hijack...LOL

aephi alum 08-12-2003 09:34 AM

Around here (CT) we have Stop & Shop, and Walmart (which I refuse to step foot in).

A few months ago, a Trader Joe's opened not far from me, but I haven't gotten out there yet.

We also have an independent supermarket, and an amazing food store that sells the best meat, fish, veggies, etc. We do 99% of our shopping at these two stores.

MattUMASSD 08-12-2003 09:47 AM

Why is walmart so bad?

I have never been in a Walmart and not received rude service - if any service at all. The last time I was there, the inept cashier who was checking out the woman ahead of me, managed to lock out her cash register. There was a manager standing around RIGHT THERE who decided she had more important things to do than help the cashier - after all it was critically important that she examine her fingernails. She refused to help the cashier, refused to check me out, refused to find someone else to check me out - so I abandoned an entire cart and went to K-Mart. :p

PiKA2001 08-12-2003 10:33 AM

We recently got Wal-Marts in the Detroit area, I refuse to go shopping there because I feel that they are trying to take over the world. But here is a Detroit, Michigan list:

Kroger
Meijer
Farmer Jack
Spartan Stores
Super K-Mart
Wal-Mart
Costco
Sams Club

Thats all I can really think of for now.

amandamarie 08-12-2003 10:42 AM

Out here in Wichita, KS (nowheresville) we have,
Dillon's
Food 4 Less
Super Wal-Mart
Checkers
Aldi's

That's about it, we used to have a bunch more, but Dillon's has such a monopoly! And, they're damned expensive!

Betarulz! 08-12-2003 11:17 AM

On the Kansas side of KC:
Hy-vee
Price Chopper
Super Target
Super Walmart
Hen House
Sam's Club
Costco
Aldi

It doesn't seem like we have that many different chains, and all these except for Aldi, sams ans costoco, have like 15 locations pretty close together.

In Lincoln I don't really grocery shop that much, as most of the stuff I need I can get in the food section of a normal target and ususally do.
But there's:
Super Savers
Hy Vee
and Walmart Super Center as well.

librasoul22 08-12-2003 11:30 AM

Here in Tallahassee we have:

Publix
Winn Dixie
Albertsons
Super Walmart
Sams
Harvey's (The absolute TRASHIEST establishment I have ever been in, followed closely by Big Lots of Monroe, NC)

I prefer Winn Dixie cause I know folks that work there and they hook me up, lol. Around here, the Publix close to the campuses is known as "Club Publix" cause poeple go there more to hook up than to shop.

Super Wal Mart rules because it is cheap as hayle and open 24 hours.

Sam's rules when I need 36 packs of Kraft mac and cheese, lol.
