Where do you work??

OK Im sure there is a thread about this somewhere around here but im a bit too lazy to look it up so here goes another one :) Where do you work, do you like it? And what would be your dream job?

I right now have 2 jobs both working with children...I work at a daycare as a 3-4 yr old teacher and I also work for the YMCA's afterschool care program. I love both of them but my dream job that I am going to have one of these days is to be an actor or a singer. Im even moving out to Cali in a little over a year to further that :) go me!

I work at Victoria's Secret!!!

OUlioness01 08-11-2003 12:48 AM

Perkins Family Restaurand and Bakery when i'm at home on break. i don't have time to get a job while at school. i need my 2 or 3 hours of study time...and that's a lot when combined with my relaxation and phone hour before bed and meals and my nap time in the middle of the day.

By day I'm a manager at the Ticket and Information office on my campus. We oversee ticket sales for campus athletic events as well as those in the local community, we issue student/faculty/staff IDs to approximately 20,000 people, and give campus tours. I get to be the girl who gets to do all the paperwork and crap.

By night I'm a waitress at a local karaoke bar where I'm also learning how to bartend.

I get no sleep.

I'd love to work in law enforcement. FBI...CIA...US Marshals...I was considering the Secret Service but I don't think I could take a bullet for a president I didn't vote for. Who knows? Maybe it'll actually happen one day soon.

I know this for sure--I'm leaving Hawaii soon, maybe in the next year or so.

I'm a tutor/TA at the University. I'm basically in charge of everything in the course except making the assignments and teaching. I like my job, but not some of the students who come with it.

I don't know what my dream job is - probably owning a little shop in Ottawa. Selling books and neat gifts, and actually not going under...

pinklady23 08-11-2003 01:20 AM

I work as a hostess at a local bar/restaurant. It's not a bad job, minus the 60 year old guys with comb-overs who come in thinking they are hot....

My dream job would be to work in Washington, not run for office, but work on the hill somehow... maybe lobby .... vauge at best I know!

etahannah 08-11-2003 01:21 AM

applebee's....i am a server...oh the fun

smiley21 08-11-2003 01:26 AM

as stated in another thread, i work at good ol starbucks....whoopee:rolleyes:
why am i still there if i dont really like it? it has very flexible hours and darn good pay. my store has the highest tip average in the district. my total hr. pay (including tips) is around $8.50 and i have only been working there 9 months.

but if i could have my dream job, it would be victoria's secret. my mom forbids it:rolleyes:  she has trouble breathing if she catches me with a bag from there.

I work at The Limited - I just started and I love it!

My dream job would be to be a lobbyist for an org. along the lines of Planned Parenthood or NARAL - I think I'm getting more liberal as I age. ;)

bsp-mich24 08-11-2003 03:24 AM

I will be teaching at a public charter school after being laid off from another district over budget woes...:)

I did some curriculum stuff last week and so far everything seems cool--public charter school is somewhat different than the regular public school. I do like the fact that I will still have STRS (ret) and health benifits:D :)

But, it's freaking fun :) You have the chance to actually get really close w/your prof's, I mean, I'm the only assistant and some prof's will let do any of their exam work or whatnot. Plus, I get to set my own hours :)

I work for a department of the university as a Telephone interviewer. Basically, I do phone surveys. Not the most rewarding job, but the pay is all right and I get to make my own schedule. And no, I am NOT a telemarketer (they are selling something, I'm not!)

AGDLynn 08-11-2003 08:29 PM

state law enforcement agency...stays away from guns..."discusses" with people who were arrested for a crime they committed long ago as a student and how it is screwing up their lives today (hint hint...don't do it!!))

Until I go back to school (which is in about 3 weeks) I am working as a Database manager for the Youth Channel Development Manager at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Canada.

It's not as glamorous as it sounds. :)

RhoSigma2003 08-12-2003 12:55 AM

Im a senior bank teller at First Tennessee Main Office. Its a sweet job cause I can set my own hours, they work around anything related to MTSU(they are a HUGE sponsor), paid holidays, good hours, I get sweet pay, I got 2 weeks vacation after 6 months and another 2 weeks after 1 year and tution refund... And I get to play with about 30-50,000 a day. First Tennessee was voted as one of the top 100 companies to work for. :D

As far as my dream job, I would love to be a personal/commercial loan officer. Or perhaps a mortage broker. I orginally wanted a job that would make me travel, but since I have found someone special, being away from each other for more than 24 hours stinks!! ;)

AlphaSigOU 08-12-2003 01:20 AM

Up until a month ago I was working as a facilities management design drafter as a temp for TDIndustries at the Boeing-Corinth (now Labinal-Corinth) plant in Corinth, Texas, north of Dallas. New company bought the plant back in June and proceeded to do a massive layoff of support staff last month. Over 120 were given the pink slip -- our facilities department was pared down 75%.

I've been a design drafter/engineering techinician for the past 12 years, and it's taken me places other than just a nice quiet desk... from slogging along the right of way of a major interstate highway to spending two weeks inside of a mountain (the DoD's Alternate Joint Communication Center inside Raven Rock mountain on the MD/PA border. Interesting work, though.

nyrdrms 08-12-2003 01:38 AM

During the summer I work at a day care center for children from 5-12 years old. At night I work as a merchandiser for a marketing company....I get to go in and out of a bunch of different bars and nightclubs throughout the area and get paid for it :)

MereMere21 09-20-2003 01:24 PM

Was full time but have been staying home with my son since my husband started Paramedic school. I work just when they need me now :)
