My brother's gf recruitment thread :)
 

My brother's girlfriend has registered for recruitment at MTSU. She's worried that she won't be able to afford it. I'm not sure if I should advise her to budget ahead or to not go through yet. Any ideas? Rush starts next week!!!

I think that she should go ahead and try it out. Let her know that she wil need to have some $ available. During recruitment or even before she can ask the different GLOs what their costs are so that she has an idea of what to expect. I know that my chapter has a couple of girls on finance plans so they do not have to pay in one lump payment. Maybe one of the chapters at her school has that..?

I know that most of the chapters here do have payment plans for their members since not all of us have our parents pay for it or have alot of money saved up for it.

DZHBrown, was this issue resolved? Is she planning on starting rush tomorrow?

Other payment options include Panhellenic scholarships for PNMs (my school has them) and scholarships from the sorority nationals once she's initiated. Also, if you save up your summer earnings, a lot of times you end up with enough money to pay your dues (at least in my experience!)

Well, I told her what I knew from personal experience regarding payment plans and that other sororities probably did similar things. I also told her about student loans, etc. I haven't heard her final decision, but she was considering not starting school till the spring and just work during the fall. I'm hoping she goes ahead and goes to school! I've known too many people with that plan that didn't go back to school :(

I haven't seen her in a couple of days, but my brother said she did meet with her Rho Sigma, today...so maybe she's going to do it after all?? I'll find out tomorrow!!

Just to let everyone know, that YES i DID see her at the sorority informational meeting last night with a HUGE smile on her face! I am SO SO SO happy that she has decided to go through. She is such an awesome person! It will fun to see where she ends up!

June almost didn't go back to rush today because she couldn't find a ride!! My brother told me so I took her, but I can't take her home. I hope she finds a ride home and ride back to say where she'll be going tomorrow!

June had a good time tonight! She didn't give me a lot of details, but I'll post what she did say. BTW - I don't know what the other MTSU PNM's are using for "code names", so I'm just making my own up!

January - She didn't really care for this group, but didn't tell me why!

February - She said these girls were "ok", but she wasn't sure she felt very comfortable. She thought that it might have just been the girl she was paired up with. She also felt they were somewhat disorganized.

March - She thinks this group will drop her, but she felt they were too formal for her anyway.

April - She really clicked with the girls here. She thought they were outgoing and very fun.

May - Loved this group. Nothing felt forced, she thought it was all very natural. Clicked with the girls. Loved the presentation. Impressed.

June - Loved this group also. Thought the girls were very nice and she felt like she fit in here.

July - She thought the girls were really nice, but she didn't feel like she fit in with them.

I'll let you know later where she's going tomorrow!!

To be a Rho Sigma, you just have to be an initated member of a panhellenic sorority and been on the "inside" of recruitment for 1 year...:D

Im SO glad that June feels comfortable that she can come and talk to me. It means alot to me. I have a few other girls from other groups that I have "adopted". Most of my girls have NO idea what chapter Im in... 2 think Im a Chi Omega and 1 other thinks im a AOII! Iam REALLY looking forward to Bid Day! I hope Crystal, Kara, Nichole, June, and Vanessa find their home here at MTSU! I wish ALL you ladies the best of luck, and Im here to help!

RhoSigma2003, you've made this whole thing much easier so far. I'm glad you're a rho sigma this year (even if you're not mine) because I do have someone that I feel comfortable with and already know to talk to about all this madness.

Looks like all of us MTSU PNMs (don't know about Nichole yet, though) will all be at XO and ADPi at some point through out today. I'll be looking for you all!

Ok, my brother gave me this update, so I apologize for the lack of details!!

January - She had a nice time, but isn't sure she can see herself here.

February - The girls seemed a lot nicer to her tonight and she had a great time.

April - This one wasn't her fit.

May - Had a great time and talked to lots of girls. Loved it.

July - Again, nice time but not sure if it's where she belongs.

What's going on with the brother's gf?!?

I haven't heard from her today! I know she had class till 3. I'm hoping she's going to the parties that she wanted to tonight! I'm about to head out for a Panhellenic meeting, but I may call before I go cause I can't wait!!

OK, I admit it, this one's my favorite rush thread! :p I like the others, too, but truthfully I just skim them to find out where they're going. But this one's great--I don't have to do that! :D

Tonight, she returned to ZTA, DZ and AXO. In no particular order, here are her thoughts....

January - She felt pretty comfortable, but she's not sure she feels as much warmth as the other places. She did meet a lot of nice ladies, though.

May - They did a skit about sisterhood and she found it very touching. She still loves it here! She felt that they represented their sisterhood well.

July - She felt that she clicked really well here and she felt comfortable.

She dropped April and February dropped her.

June and I had a heart to heart this evening. We even shared tears together. Heather, Im so glad that I have had this experience to share with her since Im very ashamed about her Rho Sigma. :( But Im glad that she atleast knows and feels comfortable about discussing things with me. Im pretty sure where I know where she is going... Acutally, Im pretty sure that I know where Kara is going too.... :D


We were able to "visit" our chapters tonight after all the PMS's left the building.... I BUSTED into tears as SOON as they opened the door... acutally ALL 4 of us did... My chapter looked amazing tonight. Im SO proud of them. The outfit that they wore tonight was one of my ACUTAL outfits! :D

40 hours left until re-affiliation and I couldn't be more ready!!!

My Rho Chis (as they were called back then) were HORRIBLE. I'm so happy to know that not every pnm has an experience like mine and so many other women at my college. Let's just say that our recruitment counselors basically never mentioned the possibility that you may get cut from more than one group each night (so that there is a possibility that you won't have a full schedule of parties), or that you can end up NOT getting your first choice (you should have seen the girls on my hall when we got bids after being reassured that 95% of girls get their first choice by our ever-helpful recruitment counselors)... and all of that other important stuff.

Anyway, thanks so much for doing a wonderful job RhoSigma! (By the way, I absolutely love the thread where the former rc's wrote about their experiences-- you should definitely write about your experience there!! Feed another one of my addictions.)
