SODA

steelepike 08-08-2003 04:45 PM

Pop

"i'd like a litre of cola"

CardinalSM 08-08-2003 04:51 PM

Definitely Coke. . . (FL/GA)

"Could I have a coke?"
"what kind?"
"Pepsi"

It is only "soda" in proper company and NEVER pop!

phi sig girly 08-08-2003 04:53 PM

i say soda (california) but i lived in toronto for a time and after awhile got used to saying 'pop.' now that im back in CA its soda again :D

PiEp299 08-08-2003 04:57 PM

MattUMASSD 08-08-2003 05:02 PM

its soda! Coke is a type of soda and pop is used to describe the carobonation. So in the end it all comes back to soda.

RedRoseSAI 08-08-2003 05:46 PM

Soda! "Pop" makes my ears hurt (and I'm from Chicago!)

bcdphie 08-08-2003 06:05 PM

POP - Canada

Tom Earp 08-08-2003 06:19 PM

POP!!!!!!! goes the weasle!!

Coke is trade name, cola is for other cocoa bean drinks, Pepsie, generic brands! It then becomes COLA!

Soda Water is what you mix with a drink for a toddy at days end!:D Most definitly needed then! ;) Not 7-up or Sprite!:o

OKAY, what is Dr. Pecker (Pepper) or Mr. Pibb?

chicagoagd 08-08-2003 06:35 PM

Grew up saying pop, but when I moved to Hawaii people didn't know what the heck I was talking about, so I switched to soda. Been saying it since, even at home.

etahannah 08-08-2003 06:42 PM

pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop

sueali 08-08-2003 06:43 PM

I say soda, but when i order i ask for a coke.

DeltAlum 08-08-2003 06:56 PM

I can use either. It was pop when I was growing up, soda when I moved East (and in Milwaukee).

Seems like Soda is used more in Denver, but that's pretty unscientific of me.

Soda seems a better fit for me now.

This Southern "Coke" thing makes no sense at all. Coke is a specific brand.

EtaPhiZTA 08-08-2003 06:59 PM

Grew up calling it soda in Philadelphia. When I moved to Illinois, no one knew what I was talking about, so it became "soda pop."

DeltaSigStan 08-08-2003 06:59 PM

TOm AND the Canadians here say Pop? Now I DEFINITLY will say Soda :D

wreckingcrew 08-08-2003 07:00 PM

Coke.

Always coke....unless you're asking for Dr. Pepper. Those are the only 2 acceptable choices.

God help me if i date a girl that says pop. I'm definately gonna have to work on that one with her ;)

Kitso
KS 361 diet cokes over here please

Kristin AGD 08-08-2003 07:02 PM

Soda Pop :D

Peaches-n-Cream 08-08-2003 07:02 PM

I call it soda, but in a restaurant I order Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. :)

What if you want Sprite? Root Beer? Big Red? Dr. Pepper?

Then the person you order from asks what kind. For example when I go to Wendy's I say can I have a Coke and they say is Pepsi okay (I know that's stretching it) but in some places Coke is just like saying I want a soda. It's like the kleenex tissue thing.

SigmaChiCard 08-08-2003 07:25 PM

soda

'pop' seems pretentious to me

Well, i don't drink sprite, root beer or (oh my god eww and disgusting big red).

but, if i did, i would ask for a sprite, A&W, or big red. Course if any of y'all ever hear me order a big red, smack me in the back of the head with a 2X4 because it's either an imposter Kitso, or i've been possessed by aliens bent on world domination.

Kitso
KS 361 times i'd rather drink pickle juice than big red

Cluey 08-08-2003 07:57 PM

It's all Coke to me!

The people I work with drink Diet Coke like crazy, but it's still called Coke.

Living in Florida, you can tell where people are from by how they order a carbonated beverage.

DeltaSigStan 08-08-2003 08:00 PM

Hey! Vodka goes well with Big Red, especially the triple filtered 7.99 for a handle kind. ;)

OUlioness01 08-08-2003 08:02 PM

pop..and the only people in ohio i've ever heard asking for a carbonated beverage otherwise are from MInnesota and Illinios

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-08-2003 08:18 PM

How about Sodapop!! Actually I grew up in Michigan so I called it POP and of course being in TN now ppl think Im nuts sometimes but oh well I dont care I like the pop and its always going to be POP! :)

Nichole

:D Okay. Okay. If I had to pick soda or pop... If I don't call it soda pop, I refer to it as soda.
I don't know how many others are like me, but I know which restaurants are a pepsi house and which are a coke house. So when I order it is usually specific such as diet pepsi or diet coke. But if I don't know for sure I order a diet soda.

I am like quite a few others on here. I live in Dallas, but I learned to talk in RI. So I guess I incorporated both. soda pop:D

goldendelta 08-08-2003 08:41 PM

Cherry Coke please. Or Rum and Coke ;)

I say soda, but if I'm at a resturant I'll ask for Coke so they get the right soda! (Even if they only have Pepsi, they still know what I want.)

As for the Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pibb question I saw a few posts back - I've never seen Mr. Pibb sold on Long Island. If anyone has, please tell me where so I can try it.

SigmaChiCard 08-08-2003 10:14 PM

incidentally, i generally drink a ridiculous amount of soda....i mean i could easily drink 12 in a day or two (not always, but sometimes), but i've not drank soda for probably 2.5-3 months and you wouldn't believe how much better you fell when you give up soda

Tom Earp 08-08-2003 10:20 PM

Stan, Damn, Ca. Greek, Bite Me!:D

I call age and # on Ya!:) :D

kstar 08-08-2003 10:34 PM

I always say Cola, unless naming a specific type of Cola. Like Co-Cola, Pepsi Cola.

I think it's from spending so much time in England. Btw: my fave is Virgin Cola, kinda tastes like RC, but not flat.

kappaloo 08-08-2003 11:06 PM

Coke - if I want any type of cola beverage (Coke, Pepsi, RC, cheap grocery store brand)

Otherwise it's pop.

Never soda. All I think of when I hear soda is baking soda, and I'm pretty sure no one wants to drink a glass of that....
