The O.C. - Did You Watch It?

I've been waiting for the O.C.'s premiere... it premiered tonight on Fox... did anyone watch it? What did you think?

I personally liked it... if you missed it, the encore will be on Thursday.

jharb 08-06-2003 12:53 AM

I watched it and I really liked it. Of course I was a big 90210 and Melrose Place fan! I'd recommend other people seeing the encore on Thursday if they missed it!

Missmichigan 08-06-2003 01:16 AM

I LOVED OC! That girls so hot and so's the guy from Chino!
It's going to be a hit with all teenage women and young adults.
**Two thumbs, four stars, and a pitcher of beer for everyone.**

IHeartAXO 08-06-2003 01:17 AM

I watched it. I'm hooked already. The main guy is adorable and I *heart* Adam Brody. I love him as Dave on Gilmore Girls and I thought he was perfect as the dorky son, Seth. :)

MeLikey 08-06-2003 01:22 AM

Was the son, Dave, on anything else besides Gilmore Girls? I've seen him on some other series, but I can't place him... I wouldn't know him from Gilmore Girls because I've never watched it... I could be wrong though.

Missmichigan 08-06-2003 01:27 AM

Yea! My sister thinks she's seen "Dave/Seth" character on another program too!

I just did a search on Adam Brody... I know where I've seen him from-- this corny show on MTV called Now What... he's also been on Once and Again among other things.

Missmichigan 08-06-2003 01:52 AM

Not sure what "Now What" was about...but Once and Again was THE show when it was still around....

I thought the show was cool. It's kinda like 90210, but darker. I don't see these kids hanging out at the Peach Pit or anything. Seth was pretty funny. But, I hated the jerk boyfriend (can't remember his name). He needs to get his ass kicked.

According to imdb.com, Seth was in The Ring and American Pie 2--so that might be where you guys saw him.

Missmichigan 08-06-2003 02:18 AM

Geoff!
Who did Seth play in AP2? Yea, I agree with you about the show...living in LA, did they have an accurate potrayal of OC? :D

GeoffZ 08-06-2003 02:46 AM

Missmichigan, I just moved to LA (4 months ago) and haven't been to the OC yet, so I don't know how accurate it is. But I have heard that the county is know for being a rich suburb, so they got that part right. Also, Imdb.com just listed Seth's AP2 character as "High school guy".

PandaOnProzac 08-06-2003 03:23 AM

I go to UC Irvine which techically should be UC Newport Beach. They only showed the glitzy upscale part of OC. For the most part OC isn't THAT rich except for a few places. It'll be cool if they make a UCI reference of some sort.

I liked the party scene though. I wish someone I knew had a place right there on the beach and separated from other houses.

SapphireSphinx9 08-06-2003 07:42 AM

Although I'm not technically IN Orange County, I'm pretty close, and spend A LOT of time there (for work and hanging out). And I think it is a pretty good representation of the real OC. Kinda played up a bit... But pretty damn close.

Definately gonna watch it next week to see what happens.

Ohhhh me too!!! I'm in love with the main character. He his character has sooooo much heart and he is a good actor. And Adam Brody is perfect as a dork! The father isn't so bad either. . .lol :D

MoxieGrrl 08-06-2003 09:53 AM

In AP2, Adam Brody was "high school kid at the beginning of the film." That's all I could find in way of a description.

White_Chocolate 08-06-2003 10:02 AM

so bascially, it will have about 4 good seasons before they go to college and then, we'll see their adult lives. . .and cringe thinking 'did i really watch that program?'

I know the actor that plays the jerk boyfriend, his name is Chris Carmack and he worked with my best friend in high school so we hung out togehter a few times. I was tres excited to see him.

absolutuscchick 08-06-2003 12:37 PM

I was totally bummed that I missed the OC last night, but I had a migraine...so no OC for me! Does anyone know when it's on Thursday so I can record it?! Thanks! :)

xok85xo 08-06-2003 01:14 PM

adam brody also played barry williams in the tv movie "growing up brady: i was a teenage greg", the movie based on barry williams(the actor who played greg brady on the brady bunch)' autobiography/brady bunch tell all...

i will go hang my head in shame now for knowing that :)

LeslieAGD 08-06-2003 01:22 PM

I guess I'm the only one that wasn't that impressed by The OC. Since it was the first episode, I will probably keep tuning in and see if it gets more interesting.

i was sitting on my couch watching it, getting all caught up in it, and of course the boy called so i wasn't paying the greatest attention to it and missed half of what happened. i'm going to have to tape it tomorrow night now since we made plans to go out. but i talked to my dad earlier and he said my mom loved it!

I agree with LeslieAGD. I thought this was just about the stupidest show I've seen in a LONG time. When the jerk-guy yells out "this is how it's done in the OC!" I was thinking "this is how WHAT is done?" A fight? A lame party? I really think that they should have called the show "Newport Beach" because this is how only a TINY portion of people in Orange County live (and yes, I've worked on the border of Newport/Irvine for a couple years). Most of the communities are pretty decent, but on the whole they don't look like what was shown last night. The people are MUCH nicer in real life, too! :)

I especially feel bad for the people who actually live in CHINO because their city was portrayed HORRIBLY. Chino does NOT look like this overall. I have lots of friends who grew up in great parts of this city.

In terms of Chino, they were probably playing up the 909 stereotype that I've seen. I also have lived in Orange County for three years. From what I saw of the show, it definitely had a slant toward the Newport/Corona del Mar world.

I probably won't watch regularly because I was already close to 30 during the Beverly Hills 90210/Melrose Place heyday. :p

LeslieAGD 08-07-2003 10:41 PM

Okay, so I caught the second half of The OC tonight. When I watched it on tuesday, I wasn't really paying much attention so I wanted to see it again and see if my opinion changed. I do like Ryan and the family, and even Marissa is alright, but I don't like the atmosphere. I know that the partying and the skin are what Fox is going for, but I am so sick of shows that glamorize sex, drugs, and alcohol to young viewers.

Again, I plan to tune in next week and give the show a chance, but I really hope the focus stays on the characters and their relationships rather than the "OC lifestyle."

etahannah 08-07-2003 10:46 PM

omg....my new fav show!!

i am not a huge tv person...usually its just on for background noise cause i live by myself (oh oh i hope i can move in with my best friend...right after he sells his car) but between the oc and the restuarant...oh man

these two shows....if i am not home on sun nights or tues....def taping to watch later!! gotta love fox for reruns!!

re running again on mon!!

absolutuscchick 08-08-2003 01:43 AM

Well, I can't wait to watch again on tuesday!
I think its so going to be another 90210 (which I never watched...my parents thought it was stupid and I was never allowed), but I actually really really liked it. Watching it though, I just kept wishing that's how my life was...if only I could afford all that awesome clothing!! I know only a few people who actually live like that though...I think that the show definitely plays up a smallish percentile of people in OC!!! Oh well, I think I'll keep watching it anyways :)

PandaOnProzac 08-08-2003 02:09 AM

Ugh. After watching it a 2nd time a few more thoughts have settled in. The media does skew and warp reality and it's understandable cuz it's TV. I really dislike how Orange County is portrayed becuz they're only showing the high class part of it. OC is mostly suburbs and family areas. Also there's Santa Ana a mile away which is very very urban. Whenever I drive from Irvine to Santa Ana it's like a night and day difference.

Story wise I'm interested in how it'll develop.

bafromkc 08-08-2003 01:46 PM

I caught the re-run last night. I liked it a lot, then again I was a big 90210 fan back in the day. I will try to watch it every week I think. And by the way, there is no way all those girls were high school aged, they looked way too good. They have to be older then that.

MattUMASSD 08-12-2003 05:04 PM

anyone watching the OC tonight at 8 on Fox?

absolutuscchick 08-12-2003 07:36 PM

I want to but i have to work...im going to try and set my parents tv up to record it!

chicagoagd 08-12-2003 08:19 PM

I am, I like it so far.:D

LeslieAGD 08-12-2003 10:21 PM

God that Luke is an asshole.

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-13-2003 12:27 AM

I liked this episode too. Im curious to see how the next one goes since I didnt get to watch the *upcoming next week thing* I dont even know a bit of what is to come :) kinda makes it better tho. crap wait ya know what though????! I just remembered I am going to have to tape it b/c hopfully I will be at my pref parties :D *crossing fingers* but yes i liked this one...anyone else have any thoughts???

Although I myself don't spend much time in Orange County I have friends and family from OC and dated a guy from Irvine. I have to agree with the people on here who have posted that although there are *parts* of Orange county like the show... but Orange County is HUGE and encompasses many many cities, it's not like the WHOLE country is mansions over looking the ocean.... most of it is just your typical suburban neigborhoods.
