Tell us your big/little story!
 

I was thinking that a cool thread would be to tell the story of how your big became your big or your little became your little. Here's mne to get the ball rolling:
I accepted my bid in January '99, due to a lot of different circumstances I couldn't have my pledge ceremony for a couple of weeks. During that time it was Super Bowl and we had a super bowl party at the house of 5 of our sisters. I of course had a grat time getting to know everyone, but there was one sister who lived there that I hadn't met before. As the night went Amanda and I just kept talking non-stop. We talked about Red Wings (our favorite team), music, found out that we were both the most psychotically obessed Dave Matthews Band fans ever (seriously, I know we all know Dave fans, but we are mad crazy obsessed), found out that we both prefered classic rock to anything else (this was also during a big country kick in our chapter), and basically that we were identical twins in every way, some people even said we looked alike! Well bid day came around finally and who gave me my pin, but Amanda! I was so excited b/c she was the one sister I wanted so badly to be my big. Later on, I found out that she wasn't next to get a little, it was a girl who I ended up living in the house with; who I liked, but she wasn't my Amanda. I found out from the other girl that Amanda fought and fought and fought to get bumped up in line for a little so she could have me. I guess she even got a little pissy about it!! I felt so loved and wanted that people were fighting over me :D! I think it completely changed my experience for the better to have someone that I would be good friends with even outside of the sorority as my big!

I have three little sisters, but my first one is the coolest story. In college I was an EMT and I volunteered for the campus ambulance corps. One day a girl came in to our headquarters (located next to her dorm). She had gotten her tongue pierced and they had accidentally pierced through a sublingual blood vessel, causing her to bleed continuously. Long story short, we treated her and brought her to the ER. A week or two later, she came to informal rush and recognized me as "that girl that brought me to the hospital".....we got to know each other better, and a few weeks later, she was my little! I love all of my littles, but our "how we met" story is definately the most exciting.

There is a tradition in my family that we are the smallest family in the house and dangerously close to dying if we don't keep getting littles to keep the family going.

My big was a senior when I was pledging as a sophmore (deferred rush at my school) and was about to graduate without a little - something that would kill the family tree. One night while I was pledging, we were watching ER on tv and Dr. Greene made a joke about "the boys down under itching" (he had poison ivy on his genatalia). Allison and I thought this was hysterical and "Australia" became our inside joke. Later, when it came time for us to choose our bigs, I put Allison first on my list.

As for my little, I didn't meet her until my last semester senior year. We were having a COB party and I was talking to Allison (my big and little are both named Allison!) when she mentioned she would be studying abroad in France next year. Since I studied abroad in France last year, I talked to her for a long time about it. She ended up pledging and we ended up hanging out more. I will be going to France next year to visit her while she is there. :D

I met my Big Sis just after I joined the sorority, and I loved how similar she was to me (crazy :p ). When us new members had to list our three picks for Big Sis, I put her at the top of my list, and she put me at the top of hers, so that's pretty much the story! She was really evil to me during Big/Little week, though...revealing wasn't until the end of the week, but in the meantime the Bigs gave the Littles "clues" every day as to who they were. My Big's clues were things like "I have my driver's license" and "I drive a car the color of fire." That could have been half the sorority! I had hoped it was her, though, and I wasn't disappointed on revealing night. :)

*edited to add* The funny thing was, she was my Big but I was older than her. We used to joke about that all the time.

I am a chapter founder, so I don't have a Big. But last semester, I got my first "Little." She is about 6'1" and I'm 5'5". We are quite a pair!!:) You know the best part?? We first met on GreekChat!

I met Nicole, my Big, at rush. There was a table that had different paddles that littles made for their bigs and pillows that bigs made for their littles. The paddle that Nicole made for her big had little rubber duckies all over it and I was like "oh that's so cute" because like a lot of ppl on here know, I'm obsessed with ducks. Turns out that she collects ducks too. Right after pledging started, we hung out a lot, and it turned out that we had a lot in common. I really wanted to be her little so on my sheet I put her as my #1 choice. She told me that she wasn't able to take a little because there were people who were up for littles before her. Turned out, some of the girls who were up for littles before her, gave them up so we could be together. During Big/Little she didn't even try to hide the fact that she was my big but because I wasn't expecting it I didn't pick up on it at all. I love my big! She's the greatest! :D

I joined a local that had just been established the previous spring. There were only 7 sisters and 6 PNMs, so all the PNMs got to meet and have pretty long conversations with all the sisters, and vice versa, just during rush parties. When we got our bids, we were also handed a list of 5 sisters to rank in order of how much we wanted each of them for our big sister. (The new member educator was excluded because of her position, and only 5 bids were extended so one other sister volunteered to not have a little.) Well, there was one girl I really clicked with, I ranked her first, and she became my big. :) So we actually were paired up right from the start of the pledge period. The "paddle" she gave me is still sitting on the corner of my desk, with a big ol' AEPhi ribbon on it :)

My little is another story. She was kind of quiet, and I was one of the few people who was able to draw her out during rush - I think she felt more at ease with me than with some of my other sisters. We served on Panhel together for a year (she as secretary, I as AEPhi's rep). Sadly, she deaffiliated later :(

I met my little at Set of 10... you know it was randomly matched up... she walked through the door and I was the next in line to host her. We hit it off... and then bam, same thing happens again at Set of 5... when it came to Big/Little choosing, she wanted me (and said on the back of my paddle) that she only wanted me to be her Big... and I wanted her as my Little. It worked out perfectly... I always said it was fate!

My Big:
Well, I went through recruitment and she had Prefed me w/o knowing me... she knew my brother and had heard rave reviews of me all week so she wanted me. Then I got a bid and she was my BidDay Buddy... she's also the PledgeMom [who shouldn't get a lil sis], but she kept taking me out EVERY week, even though we have 3 different 'week' sisters, she kept taking me out and giving me presents. And then on Big/Lil Revelation, BAM... she was my big. Apparently she went around the hall and thretened death to anyone who took me...lol

My Lil:
I met her the spring break before she rushed, she was dating a good friend of mine in Lambda Chi. Skip ahead to rush week 2001, I see her and run up to her and hug her. But I never got to talk to her formally through rush. just kinda see in passing and smile and wave. Then during the 3rd night I saw her on the Lambda chi hall, and we weren't allowed to talk to each other, so I kept kinda looking from one room across the hall to the room she was in... we kept catching each others eyes, and smiling and looking away. Then she got in!!! I didn't get her the FIRST week because I had been in charge of pickin up the girls and runing them back to where the chapter was. But I got her second week [i thretened the chapter so I could have her 2nd week]. From Day 1 that she got in the sorority, we went out to eat every wednesday... so during the week of BigLil and we're giving clues as to who we are... I'm like, i have blonde hair, I'm from the south [yeah, i have brown hair and i'm from NJ], I have a boyfriend in FarmHouse [yeah... no boyfriend]... totally threw her off... but she STILL kinda knew it was me. So that wednesday, we're eatting and i'm asking if she likes her presents,and she smiles at me, and goes on gushing about them... then i get this uneasy look on my face and she's like 'whats wrong?'. I said, 'man, i dont know how to say this... i'm not your big sis'. Her face dropped.. but kinda smiled again and was like 'o c'mon.... really?'. So i make this entire story about how Amanda [pledge mom] had screwed everyone up, NO one got hwo they wanted, BUT I KNEW she'd love her big sis once she got to know her. Well, my lil was quiet the rest of the lunch, and we parted ways to go to class. WELL, I found out later from her boyfriend [who i'd told] that she came over that night crying and so upset, and she wanted me so bad.. etc etc. Her boyfriend even got a few other brothers to be like, 'man i'm sorry lindsey, I heard what amanda did... don't be mad at her. I know you'll like your big sis'. I felt kinda bad... but it was awesome on bidday when she found out it was me... she started crying and jumping up and down. It was just awesome!

My big sis and I hit it off because we are a lot alike and my sis mom was best friends with her. My boyfriend broke up with me and they both knew him well and threatened him and told me what jerk he was and she took me to the emergency room when I came down really really sick during my pledgeship (my fever was all of 104!) and sat there with me for two hours!

My little- heehheehe
We didn't like each other when she pledged, actuallly! She pledged around May (informally) and then she was still a new member during rush (but their initiation was scheduled for shortly there after). So during rush she and I were chosen to do all the hard labor- throwing large bundles away in the dumpster that was 10 feet tall (we were both short and skinny!) in our dresses and hose, having to stand up on tables to put things up, etc. Anyway, we starting laughing because they always had the "little bi$&#" as we put it, do all the hard work. And we found out we had a lot in common. Her mom is best friends with the sister of my dads best friend, even! So anyway, after rush one night at my adopted Big Brother's birthday we were talking and she starts saying how she wants me for a big sis. Well I really wanted her too! But I told her we would have to wait and see. So she put me first and of course I accepted, but told her I really wanted to take care, and couldn't afford to take a little and all and so I talked with her soon to be big and I was going to adopt her later on. She was sad, but okay with it. SO I give her all these presents (half of which I made because I was dirt poor) and gave her clues saying I was someone else.... then the day of her revealing I went with her to buy her candle. She cried when I blew it out and cussed me! She had NO CLUE! And SHE NEVER Cries.. she barely talked to me for a week... i Love my little Dione.

My Little AHHHH I never thought she would turn into one of my bestest friends!!! I mean I knew we clicked but never thought we were such a match!!! I met my little through my best friend Nick (a Chi Phi) who had class with Lida (who is my little). He had introduced us a few times but that was it then we had class together and I never talked to her. (My FROSH year I didn't talk to many people since I had a boyfriend and thought I didn't need friends STUPID JESS!!!) So I was snobby to her and didn't talk to her so she use to tell Nick that I hated her. Then when my relationship was over and I had NO friends I decided to make some and started talking to her and then came our FINAL in that class so we decided to study together and ended up bonding and staying up all night in my dorm room!!! We didn't sleep and stayed awake for the final at 9 am the next morning!! Then the following semester she decided to rush and I knew from DAY ONE that I wanted her as my little!!! After Discovery we hung out LOTS and we partied and have great stories and now we are BESTEST FRIENDS!!! I haven't even picked up another Little because I'm afraid that whoever I pick up will never compare to my Lida!!! I LOVE YOU!!!

This is a VERY cool thread because I happen to have what *I* Think is a pretty cool story. I am a rainbow girl.. (which is an organization for girls 11-20 sponsered by masons, it is a sorority, just not a greek letter one and for younger girls.. but we do comminy service and have sisterhood and ritual and all of that) so NE WAY... I'm at philnathropy round this past fall I'm across the room talking to some of the PNMs when I hear my name from across the room. It was one of the sister's Ashleigh... who had been talking to this PNM who just happened to be a rainbow girl too... AND had grown up locally (within an hour of me) Ashleigh, of course made the introduction and basically the rest is history... except for that we keep finding out weird stuff things like we own A LOT of the same things... that we bought before we knew each other







we both used the same theme and colors when we were installed as worthy advisor..(president) of our
respective rainbow chapters...and we went through some old rainbow pictures and found each other in old rainbow pictures from some district wide events and such... so basically we had probably been seeing each other around since we were like 13... but never really got the chance to truly "meet each other" until Phi Sig brought us together... we call each other sisters twice over =)

Big Sister: I met my big the first night of rush (which I don't remember at all, long story, involving a concussion, some heavy duty meds and passing out!) but anyway apparently we talked that night. So then the second week of pledgeship was our bid day party thrown by the fraternities, and my Owl Pal (temp big sis) for that week, Whitney, was driving me, we went to another sister's house, Stephanie, to pick her up and stayed there and talked for a while. Stephanie and I ended up talking about something and then some word that Whitney said made us laugh SOOOO hard, we were on the floor crying and clenching our stomachs with Whitney looking at us like we were crazy! So from that point on we hung out allllll the time. There was another sister that I was really close to and when I had to write my top 5 choices for bigs, I was completely torn between Stephanie and the other girl. I put Stephanie first and for all of big/little revelation week, Stephanie gave me clues making me think it was the other girl. I was so excited on rev night when it was Stephanie! She had put me as her number one and the rest is history! I have the best big sis EVER!

Little Sister: hopefully someone in the fall pledge class!!! Very excited!

Twins!
 

I have two little sisters, and we call them twins even though they're as different as night and day.

Spring of my Junior year, my friend Kathleen came to some Informal Rush events, and eventually pledged Kappa with me as her big. Kathleen and I are very similar - we're both theatre majors, both have the same values, both like the same sorts of things. It seemed like a perfect match. Then, due to some money issues, Kathleen couldn't be initiated, and I was heartbroken. I wanted her to be my little sister SO much, and now I wasn't going to be able to share Kappa with her.

So fall rush comes around, and I don't really click with any of the new members, but I list 3 that I like for my little sisters. The New Member Educator tells me that Tracy has put me down as her first choice for big, and would I like to do it? I thought about it for a LONG time, because Tracy and I had maybe two conversations, and we seemed to have nothing in commmon - she's really outgoing and kind of a crazy partier, and I'm more shy and reserved - but I wanted a little, so I took Tracy. Everyone was saying what a weird pair we were, but as we got to know each other better, the pairing made more and more sense - we really balance each other out.

A few weeks before fall initiation, Kathleen mentioned that she had sorted out her money issues, and wanted to come back to Kappa - but only if I could still be her big. So long story short, she came back to the chapter, and I got to initiate two very darling and dear little sisters into my sorority. :) And even though we don't make any sense together, we're one of the closest families in the sorority!

Just came across this thread and thought I'd comment :)

My little is the most sarcastic and forward person I have ever met. I was her Alpha sister, and we talked on IM every night. We became really close and had lots of inside jokes and were inseperable. When it came time for Big/Little week, I kept telling her I didn't get her. We made up screen names like AXO Bigs and stuff to throw them off and talk to them on IM. She kept asking me what SWICK means (a secret family thing) and I kept telling her she could never know because she would never be in the family. She kept getting more and more upset. On Big/Little night, when she found out it was me, she screamed "I HATE YOU" (of course, being totally sarcastic) before tackling me and screaming. I keep joking with her that she is the only little in our chapter's history to tell her big she hates her :) She is one of the most amazing women I have ever met, and I am so sad she transferred to be closer to home :(

My big sis in my local, Alpha Gamma Gamma:

After formal rush had come and gone, and I had dropped out of recruitment, I was just pretty much doing my thing all the time....I went to a few date parties with guys I had met, hung out with the girls on my floor etc. At Rosh Hashannah services, I was sitting down next to the girl who would later be my big. She starts talking to me, and I find out that she has the same birthday as me, so I got really excited. When she asked me if I was in a sorority, I told her I had rushed but had dropped out. So she wrote down her number on a piece of paper with instructions about AGG's rush, which was that next week. So I went into rush, and never had I felt so happy. All the girls were nice, and I felt like I could really be myself...and I definitely was....dancing around, smiling, really animated. Anyhow, when it came time for Big/Lil, I put her first on my list, and she put me first on hers. During BS/LS revealing week though, she really tried to trick me. Every day I would find a new gift, and was really excited, and one day she called my cell phone while I was in my friends dorm. I answered, all excited about my gift that day kind of knowing it was her, and told her about it. And she told me that the sweatshirt she got her little was different. I was crushed!!! I wanted to cry, but I didn't. I still sort of thought it was her. But when Big/Lil Revealing came around and she was my big sis, I was overjoyed!!!!!!

My Local sorority, AGG's Little:

Right before fall rush, I had restricted my calories down to about 600 or so a day. The night after the first day of rush (which I couldnt go to because I had class), I ended up going delerious because I was so starved for food. Anyhow, my best friend at the time and the building Residential Coordinator, took me to the hospital, where I was admitted for about a week, getting me back on track with regular meals, medicating me and such. So I missed rush, bid day, everything. When I got back for the first monday dinner, the first girl that I talked to was Carrerra. She was cute, really sweet, and we had a good conversation. When it came time to rank little sis's, she was my number one choice!! I was so excited when I got her!!! Even though she's 23, and I'm only 20, she's the sweetest little sis!!!


Kappa Delta, my big sis:

After the first day of rush, I was coming out of my last house, when I saw Tory at the Kappa Delta booth. I ran up to her and smiled and wanted to hug her, but we were afraid of a rush infraction because it was after the designated time so she couldn't. (I had known Tory in high school). The next day at rush, I was so excited that I came up and hugged her. I still didn't get to talk to her for long because she was with another girl. At every rush party we would make a point to hug and smile, until preference where I finally got to talk to her. I felt so at home and comftorable, it was awesome. Anyhow.....she's my big sis!!!

i was a founding father of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter at the university of central oklahoma. so i really didnt have a big but the older members sort of took the younger ones in as "littles". well mine didnt really do much, he wasnt around and was never there when i needed him, plus when i had just been dumped by my girlfriend of a year he takes her to one of our date parties about 2 weeks after the breakup. she didnt like him but wanted to go to try to talk to me. but i didnt want to see her again. i couldnt take her back because she did me wrong. i was pretty upset with him. so then a year later i met this girl at a different college while visiting some brothers there, we hit it off and now we are engaged, so i transferred schools and affiliated with this pike chapter. here i met by big bro T. he kind of took me in, he had been active for 4 years so he knew a lot about the fraternity, plus since uco didnt really have any traditions because we were new, he taught me all of ECU's. i knew him from a couple of conventions that we had both attended and of course visiting their chapter and all but never really hung out with him. when i got there during the summer we were the only pikes who didnt go home. we had a lot of serious conversations and soon became best friends. i asked him to adopt me and there you go.

Kappa Phi Big:
I came into Kappa Phi a little late, but I still got a Big. Kappa Phi assigns new members Bigs as soon as they pledge so they get presents once a week at meeting throughout their pledgeship until activation. Katie and I just hit it off really well as soon as we met. We became practically inseperable and I would always IM her telling her how much I wanted her to be my Big. She let it slip to me a few times that I was her Little, but then she would trick me saying stuff like "I took a Little before you joined. Sorry!" After activation and during revealment another one of my pledge sisters thought Katie was her Big as well and when her Big (who wasn't Katie) revealed herself I just screamed "I knew it!" Turns out I was right! :D

Kappa Phi Little:
I was SO excited when I first met my Little! Her and her best friend were SO cute! I saw Meredith (her best friend) was a bit more outgoing so when I put down my top 3 of Little I put Meredith 1st, Melissa 2nd, and a girl named Tiffany 3rd. After they went through pledge ceremony I found out I got Melissa as my Little and was SO excited! She IMed me that night and was like "I wanna know who my Big is." For 6 weeks I convinced her that I wasn't her Big! Right after activation I couldn't wait to reveal myself to her! All of the new actives were sitting in 2 pews and I walked in front of them saying "Eenie, meenie, miney, mo... Who is my Little...? Aww heck! It's Melissa!"

Phi Gamma Pi Big:
I went through formal sorority recruitment, but dropped out. However, during a "meet the Greeks"-type night I met Sarah. When I first approached the Phi Gam table I really hit it off with her. Sarah and I talked and just really hit it off. Every time we saw each other around campus after that we'd stop to talk for a few minutes. We kept running into each other and when I pledged Phi Gam she was my Emerald Buddy (pseudo Big). Since Phi Gamma Pi is so small, Sarah was allowed to take a Little and I put her on the top of my list thinking that I wouldn't get her as my Big because she and I were REALLY close as it was. So all throughout Big/Little week I was thinking that my Big was one of the older actives or our president. Come Big/Little revealment she revealed herself and I got my paddle and just SCREAMED with excitement!

okay just cause i'm lazy tonight and dont feel like typing a bunch heres a short version.
I knew my big sis before I pledged, but it was the alumni that got me to pledge and then it happened I got her as my big.

I met my little during Ice Water Teas (the first round of recruitment). After that round was over, I told one of my friends that she HAD to be a DG and that she would be my little. The night before Big/Little revealing, I went with her and her (biological) sister to a swap and afterwards we just goofed off and got Krystals at like midnight. I knew she HAD to be my little but I was worried that she hadn't put me down as her first choice big. But the next day, she officially became my little sister :D

APO

I met my big, Miles at 4am in front of my dorm. I was having a fight with my bf at the time and he sat down an talked to me for like 2 hours. He told me about APO and invited me to the events. I went and decided to pledge. I didn't know how to pick as a big so I didn't write anyone down but he picked me!

I was Membership VP last year so I was in charge of the RUSH events. At one of the events, Tim comes up to me and says I'll only pledge if you're my big but I heard you weren't going to take a little (I was hoping to get a D Phi E little and didn't want to play favorites) I didn't even know Tim very well but it took me about a second to change my mind about the little situation.

I couldn't have asked for a better family. We're the closest, coolest family in APO. Sadly both Miles and Tim are leaving me this year and graduating. I'm going to miss them so much. But I have an awesome grandlittle to look after so I think I'll be fine.

D Phi E

I met my big Jess in APO. I didn't even know she was a Deepher until formal Rush. During my new member process she looked after me and always took me out on the weekends. I met so many upperclassman (I was a freshman) and had an awesome time. She said it was like taking mini me out. When it came time to choose a big I had no doubt I wanted Jess. She hid the fact that I was her little for a month! When it was big/little night I found out. I was the happiest girl in the room. We both grown up a bit but we're still really close. I'm going to miss her when she graduates and leaves for the Air Force in May.

My little, Marina, and I are like night and day. I'm loud, she's quiet. We met on the fencing team. I never thought she'd pledge a house. Since she was my friend I invited her to a COB event and she came. She liked the house so much she decided to pledge and she picked me as a big! She's older than me and will graduate before me but my time at D Phi E would not be the same without her.

Ok so I have 2 littles and i'm closet with my 2nd. I only wanted to take her if i was her first choice and I was! Well to make a long story somewhat short this semester i have moved back home and we are closer then ever!!!! When i was at school we were pretty close but being away has made us more connected and i feel that our relationship as big and little is a true one because of this situation! She just took a second little and when i go to visit the 3 of us are partners in crime! Its great
