Never say Never - Your Turn

Ok, this is a thread about things we all swore we'd never do... but ended up doing. SO wat did you swear you'd never do?

I'll start.

1). I swore I'd never own or wear a pair of cowboy boots.

I now own 4 pair. 1 pair Redwings, 2 pair Justins and a pair of ostrich skin.

I didnt want to 'casue I thought itd mean I was a hick. I got to college and saw that everyone wore boots down here, the were the 'classy' thing to wear (khakis and a pair of redwings)and It didnt mean I was a hick.

2) I swore I'd never own a truck.
Ithen realized how functional they are and how much cheaper than an SUV they are.

3) I swore I'd never have another long distance relationship.

Looks like I am in another one.

Swore I'd never like hip-hop/rap... now there's a few songs I'm into...

Swore I'd never stop playing bass guitar...
I've been cheaing on my lower-end instrument, been playing mostly regular guitar for over a year now.

Swore I'd never join a fraternity...
I think you could probably guess who that turned out...
(I know there's probably a lot of people on here with that one, so I just HAD to beat 'em to it!)

Rio_Kohitsuji 08-04-2003 04:12 PM

Swore I'd never join a sorority after the first incident *ick*
--Oye..now look at me... :o

Swore I'd never date a guy that was in Art
--Going to get married to an artist... :p

I'll add more once I think of some..lol

ADPi~Ally 08-04-2003 04:40 PM

I said I would never join a sorority. Iit was one of the best things I ever did, and it was totally worth it. I met my best friend and have a lifetime of sisterhood. :)

MattUMASSD 08-04-2003 04:43 PM

I swore I wasnt going to work at the Gap this summer. It turns out that I am, but only weekends.

bluz4 08-04-2003 04:54 PM

oh geez what i said i'd never do:

join a sorority ... uh right.
have another boyfriend ...
have another ex-boyfriend ...
live in the city i was born and raised in... i'm still here
move back home ... well if that cohabitation thing had lasted...

KappaKittyCat 08-04-2003 05:10 PM

I swore I'd never...

... join a sorority. (I am super-Kappa.)

... have sex before marriage. (I didn't lose my virginity; I know exactly where I left it.)

... play a sport. (So sayeth LU's Varsity Fencing Rookie of the Year, 1999-2000.)

... get a tattoo. (Famous last words.)

... pierce anything other than my ears. (Got my nose done in January.)

"Swore that I'd never kill hookers."
-Tom Dooley

Once I swore like when I was 14 that I'd never join a fraternity. ;)
Who was I then? Who the hell am I? Wham, Bam, thank you, ma'am. I'm a Theta Chi.

ladybug1116 08-04-2003 05:44 PM

Swore I'd never....

...go to Florida State (this at the age of 13 b/c I thought they had an annoying fight song)

...join a sorority

...have another long distance relationship (you can't help who you fall in love with though)

...move to Birmingham

...live with a guy (not dating him obviously but STILL...and it's not bad at all!)

...go back to grad school (starting in 2 weeks)

swissmiss04 08-04-2003 06:12 PM

I swore...
I would never color my hair (I have nearly a dozen times)
A 1000 times I'd never go to a tanning bed. (Thankfully I've quit)
I would never wear low rise jeans.
I'd never do anything sexual before marriage
I would never chop my hair
I would never attend a public university
I would never have a gpa below 3.8. ha. ha ha ha ha

I am usually a believer in "never say never" because circumstances and times change so suddenly and some values (like what to do w/ your appearance) change. But the tanning bed thing was definitely a mistake! (I have white splotchy sun spots now!!! ARgh!)

smiley21 08-04-2003 07:21 PM

i swore i would never....

1) have sex before marriage ( i did)
2) have sex again after the first time (i did)
3) fail a college course (i did)
4) own a country cd (i have one)

KillarneyRose 08-04-2003 07:23 PM

When I was dating my husband, I told him something along the lines of, "I just want you to know that I have a great career and I can't see myself ever wanting to have children or if I d, have them, staying home with them."

...which is exactly what I do now!

I swore I'd never own a station wagon and mocked those who did.

I have a station wagon (but it's not wood paneled. I DO have SOME taste still!)

1989 Tracy said, "I'm going to live in New York City forever, I can't imagine living in the suburbs"

2003 Tracy says, "Yep, I live in the burbs. I have a lawn mower and everything!"

steelepike 08-04-2003 07:36 PM

I swore i'd never get married but i have kept to that one pretty well.

OUlioness01 08-04-2003 08:18 PM

i swore i would never:

fall for someone i went to high school with....oops did that a year ago and i still cna't think about anyone else although i've tried

have a long distance relationship....it certainly seems as if i'm headed that way

drink while i was underage....well that went out the window my first weekend at college

never become a teacher....too bad that's my major

cry about someone i cared about....well kinda didn't follow that one either

AUDeltaGam 08-04-2003 08:29 PM

I always said I didn't want to be in a sorority (I'm a PROUD Delta Gamma)!!

I never wanted a tattoo (now I'm thinking about one!)

Hootie 08-04-2003 09:08 PM

I swore up and down that I'd never smoke - and then I did. But thankfully I'm taking a wonderful Healthful Living course which has made me decide to stop smoking :) So that I will be happy about!

FAB*SpiceySpice 08-04-2003 10:40 PM

I swore that I'd never:

Date someone younger than me...too bad that happened last semester

Become one of those girls who is obsessed with the gym...I was seriously the laziest person on the planet and now I am a total gym freak! :p

Date a fraternity guy...too bad that is ALL I've dated since I've been in college ;)

Have kids....haven't had any yet thankfully and I don't ever plan to! :)

Like my brother's girlfriend b/c she was mean to me in high school.....luckily I got over that and we're friends now :)

carnation 08-04-2003 10:52 PM

I swore I'd never teach...oh, well. So did my husband and most of the other teachers I know.

I swore, after driving through, that I'd never live in Starkville, Mississippi. Five years later....

MeLikey 08-04-2003 11:13 PM

I swore I'd never smoke... chainsmoked for 2 weeks freshman year.

I swore I'd never work in retail after Macy's (I stuck it out for 4 shifts before quitting)... I worked at Nordstrom and actually enjoyed it.

And of course I've sworn to not hook up with certain boys again and again or use my credit card *too much*... but you know how those things go....

AOIIalum 08-04-2003 11:23 PM

I swore I'd never...

... go to the University of Louisville (heck, I ended up going there not once, but twice! Sheesh!)

... get on an airplane (still don't like it too much)

... be in a long-distance relationship (did that one twice)

... move back to Louisville (left in 1988, came back in 1990 for a decade, and now am sadly gone for good.)

... miss living in Louisville (see above, darn it!)

... let the TV babysit my children (LOL, that went out the window by 18 months of age!)

... eat red meat again (finally, one I can stick to!)

... get a tattoo (I've survived this long, I think I can live without one!)

CatStarESP4 08-05-2003 01:24 AM

I thought I would never have a crush on a younger guy, now I have a crush on a guy 7 years my junior.

I thought that I would never live with my parents after completing grad school, well I dropped out and lived with them since (how depressing and I rue each and every day)!

Once I dropped out of grad school, I vowed never to give it another chance, now I want to go back!

I swore I would not be unemployed after graduation because with all my internships, you would think I'd be a working woman by now. But 2 months later, to no avail... :(

Same here!!!

I also said I wouldn't go to college in state (HA!!!)
I wouldn't join a sorority
I would never date an international (had one for 3 yrs)
I would wait until marriage for the "do"

ZTAngel 08-05-2003 12:20 PM

After working in an office environment last summer during my internship, I swore I would never go back to retail ever again. Funny what you'll end up doing when you can't find a job post-graduation. :( Luckily, I found a job (3 months later!) and I'm back in an office environment.

I said I would never act like I like someone who I don't. If I didn't like someone, I would ignore them or be obnoxious towards them.

-Since I came to college and started working I'm slowly discovering that showing dislike to certain people is the worst move you can make. Usually because it burns bridges that you may NEED to cross in the future. I'm still against falsely befriending people, but I do act cordial or neutral.

I said I would never be cheap.

-Well I started college, got a job, and am partially financially indepedent of my folks. They provide a roof over my head, that's just about it, anything else I have to pay for it myself.

Jill1228 08-17-2003 09:00 PM

I swore I would:
Never date a man under 6 feet tall. (the husband is 5'7)
Here is a biggie:

I would NEVAH EVAH get involved with a man who had children!

Famous last words...my husband has a 13 year old from his previous marriage

MareImbrium 08-18-2003 03:44 AM

I swore I'd never:

1. Do anything colorful to my hair (well actually...I only highlighted it)

2. Have a long distance relationship (it just isn't for everyone and then it depends on how strong the relationship is and if you're willing to make things work)

3. Listen to country music (my coworker got me hooked on it but I love it)

4. Do the whole makeup routine (but even so...I still wear once in a bluemoon but it's only the basics)
