Sigma Kappa Grace

Does anyone here know what the tune for saying the Sigma Kappa grace is? I had no idea we had one. I got the words but not the tune and I would love to teach it to my chapter. Thanks a bunch!

My chapter sings it before
dinner, every Monday...
when we have chapter.:)

I assumed every chapter did this.

:shrugs: i dunno if every chapter sings it ... we sing it before dinner every night (well during the week when we all eat together)

we don't have a house just a part of a dorm. It would look kind of odd if the girls on campus just stood up and sang it in the cafeteria. Apparently it just got lost along the way, 'cause I met someone who was part of the chapter several years ago and they knew it then. It was mainly used for banquets. Some of the girls in my chapter went to GCA convention Greek Christian Association (or something like that, I'm not sure it's GC something. It's a Greek Bible Study group.) and they met other Sig Kaps who sang it before one of the meals. Anyway, being ritual chair for the chapter they told me. I really don't want to go back in the fall without knowing it! I would appreciate the help Aquastar!

no rush at all! I don't get back till 21st for workshops and then class don't start till the next week. Our first formal meeting is not for a while, and that's when I would probably share it so I have a while. I posted it in the national website also maybe someone there can get?

thanks a bunch!

We also sing it on Monday nights at dinner, and I had assumed that everyone did. Interesting!

sueali 08-04-2003 11:26 AM

We dont't sing it because we don't have a house, however our chapter made sure that everyone who went to convention new it, because we knew we would be singing it. When you look on the national website it actually names the tune Doxology because the tune is a very common prayer in church.

UFSigKap 08-04-2003 01:04 PM

We sing it every day (Monday through Friday) before dinner.

PSUSigKap 08-04-2003 03:26 PM

we have a sigma kappa grace!?! that's news to me. maybe cuz we don't have a house and live in the dorms i didn't know about it. interesting.

annniesk 08-04-2003 04:03 PM

now I don't feel bad not knowing it since we are not the only ones. The words to it are on the national website with the songs. I still don't know the tune though since I don't know what the hymn everyone is talking about.

:)

I found a site where it plays the tune, the tune is to praise him to whom all blessings flow. scroll down and click on it. it's the original not the altered

It's also on the CD that you can buy from NHQ. It's like $12, and you can always burn copies and give them to everyone in your chapter...it also has a bunch of other SK songs, cheers and chants. Good Luck!

Come to think of it, and this may be un-sigma-like of me, I've never even HEARD Sigma Kappa Grace. How horrible am I?!?!

PurdueGirlie 08-13-2003 01:03 AM

I believe it goes... ahem *clears throat*

For thou who gives us every gift
To Thee our grateful praise we lift
Teach us to do Thy will today
And find in thee, one heart, one way
Amen

Aquastar 08-13-2003 01:11 AM

yup that be it! theres another verse too!! I dont know it off hand but I remember reading it sometime maybe last fall and I remember liking it SOOOO much! If anyone knows it or has a book with it there im sure theyll post it ... or yall can wait till i get back to school and find it ;-)

PurdueGirlie 08-13-2003 12:51 PM

It's in your Promise book, I do believe. I don't know where mine is right off hand.

And the other line, I believe is.... I think that's the one we say at the end of dinner. It's hard for me to remember considering I haven't said it for like 4 months now. But we sing it at formal dinner every week during the school year.

One heart, one way, we give Thee praise
For all the blessings of our days
For something, grace, and something something
Accept dear Lord, our thanks to Thee
Amen

Sorry, I don't remember all of those words... we don't really sing something something... haha :)

Aquastar 08-13-2003 01:17 PM

Yea thats the one Im talking about ... but its not in my promise book  :shrugs: but yea thats it! (without the somthings of course)

The only time that we ever sing it is on Pref night before we eat and at Founder's Day. We only sing the first verse. Granted our chapter never sings it b/c we don't have a house. I hope that this is not at tradition that is being lost :(
