Rho Sigma Zeta Updates
As of right now we have 2 more girls interested in joining us!! We need 3 to be recognized by the school and we only have the 2 founders so we decided that we will be the founding mothers and they will be the founding daughters :D
we are working on our philanthropy at the moment and have got in contact with the make-a-wish foundation! i'm getting so psyched about it! hmm what else i think that's about it! i'll keep this as my thread that i update every once in awhile! Thanks everyone for supporting us, you don't even know what it means to me!!! Lauren |
YAY! Good for you! :D
|
YAY! for you! Keep going strong! If you need anything just PM me any old time!
|
Just to let you know, I know that Chi Omega has recently adopted the Make A Wish Foundation as their philanthropy so you might want to look into something else. Good luck!
|
our philanthropy as a whole is child welfare...we are starting a program called kare 4 kids and we will be working with many organizations not just make-a-wish.

this has been a good week! we got a new pnm and with the help of Eirene_DGP we got in touch with another sorority on campus...so hopefully we can get something planned :D hmmm what else i have a meeting with our advisor on 8/19 so i'm excited to tell her all of whats been going on :) i was thinking about starting a greek council of some sort at our school b/c a) we don't have one and b) it's really hard to find info on the other glo's on campus and this way we can all be involved together I dunno though so we'll see whats going on...
things are finally starting to come into play and school starts in 3 weeks bah :p anywho what else is there? none of the other organizations i contacted for philanthropy are contacting me back...which is distressing...I'm just gonna keep trying though. I've updated the website a little bit here and there http://geocitites.com/rhosigmazeta ;) tell me what u think and if anything doesn't work/isn't spelled right...etc, ect...let me know asap...so i can fix it shout out to navane for that one she's helped alot....well that's all for now i think...if i think of anything else i'll be back  Lauren |

Well I'm glad things are going well :). There's probably little I can add on the website front, I'm having a quick look now before I go out to see Legally Blonde II. So let's see...
1) Like the new front page. 2) In the bottom left hand corner, you see a yellow exclamation mark and it reports you have errors on your page. Your code is all **fine**, but the advert code Yahoo geocities inserts is buggy. You might like to paste the following line in the <head> section of your html code to supress the reporting of the errors: <script language="JavaScript"> function blockError(){return true;} window.onerror = blockError; </script> Yahoo re-inserts code for their ads every now and then, sometimes above the <head> section so you might need to delete the ad code every now and then (it'll be obvious to see, it has <-- text above/below generated by server. PLEASE REMOVE --> on it). 3) Tiny typo on the Commonly Asked Questions page. In the first paragraph, 'developing' is spelt 'devoloping'. Likewise on the Philanthropy page where the spelling 'devoloped' is used. Also, on the Philanthropy page, 'benefit' has been spelt 'benifit'. 4) When I select 'About Us' on the right and then 'Legacy', there isn't any text on the left hand side yet? I'm guessing it's a work in progress though. 5) It (the site generally) does look nice, but you may want to re-look at the use of italics which sometimes doesn't look clear and crisp on computer monitors? 6) The purpose statement is nice, The purpose of Rho Sigma Zeta is to provide women of all cultures unity, sisterhood and support as well as life experiences. This orginization is devoted to friendship, motivation, opportunity, leadership and well-being. There's a slight typo where 'organization' is mis-spelled. Also, the sentence might flow even better if you put the word 'to' after provide or the word 'with' after cultures, instead. A nice word to add might be 'enriching' before life experiences. 8) Calendar v. nice. I'll have to get me one of those :) ! Overall it's v. nice, I hope not all my points were silly or annoying. Anway must dash - hot date with Reese Witherspoon ;). - Richard |
I have a philanthropy idea! I am a little one-sided because I am going into family law to protect these people. OK here's the idea: Child and Spousal Abuse Awareness and Eradication! You could raise money for this to get children and spouses out of such situations and get an education so they can get a decent job to support themselves once out of the situation! You can print brochures to hand out to the public. You can do all kinds of things with it!

thanks scpiano...we thought about that and we will be most likely working with st. jude house in crown point

you're very welcome!

so this week has been a busy week...
first of all we made the template for our shirt and went to go it priced:eek: it turned out to be ALOT more then we thought and can't afford it at this time...so we are goin to attempt making them ourselves..lol wish us luck!! Second of all...one of our girls dropped...which we knew was goin to happen...so it wasn't a big shock or anything I guess she didn't have the heart for it...I dunno. I'm really irritated about what she said to us...she said we did all the fun stuff or whatever bullshit....I've been WORKING my ASS OFF to get as far as we have gotten!!! I've been workin for months upon months! It hasn't been all fun and games...IT'S BEEN HARDWORK AND DEDICATION!! I WANT Rho Sigma Zeta to make it and I WILL do EVERYTHING in my POWER to ensure that it does. She also said something about I say things are here b4 I say it to them. There is a reason that is I said something about founding daughters BECAUSE I wanted input on it...as far as I knew after asking around and looking into it, it had never been done. GRRRRRR!! :END RANT: Sorry about that I had to get some things off my chest and it's nice to have people here that know what we have gone through...it's like my other home lol :D yes i'm being cheesy... We have so many meeting coming up meeting with the girls, then with the advisor, and then with Delta Gamma Pi....School Starts soon...I'm gonna start stressin real soon here... Last but not least... We got some BIG news I guess you can say...we got contacted by MTV...I'm psyched but a little worried at the same time... Anywho that's it for today...so that leaves my shout outs i guess lol Shout out to following people for all their help and support it's been great!!!! Thanks!! anyone know where we can shirts screen printed cheap?? we only need like 4 or 5 which is the downside...grrr
|
Thanks for sharing your side. I think you should do what you feel is right, and if this sorority isn't it, then it just isn't. Good luck in whatever you want to do!! :D

It would be cheaper to simply buy plain 50/50 polyblend cotton Tees from Hobbie Lobby or Walmart etc and a pack of iron on transfer paper you use through your color printer. You design the logo and print it and then iron it on yourself. The paper comes 15 sheets to a pack for about $12-$15 and the shirts would be cheap--like $4 or less. Much cheaper than screen printing. BTW, you need 50/50 blend for the iron on to really work the best. |
AHHHHHH!!! so last night we tried to make our shirts right? we went out and bought all the stuff and grrrrrrrrr it did not work!!!! like we sat there holding the iron and it didn't stick i'm sooooooo pissed off cause now we just used all this money and it went down the whole bah....on a good note tho i get to see my bf this weekend i haven't seen him for a month so i'm happy...and then we have the meeting on sunday which i'm psyched for one of the grls got all this stuff for us when she went on her trip!! so we were like you go girl...at least her stuff will prolly work unlike all the stuff we tried to make blah...anywho thats it for now...ttyl
Lauren |
I've only had good luck with iron on transfers so the only thing I can think you did wrong was the iron was not hot enough. You have to set it to the hottest setting (uaually linen or cotton) and no steam. What brand did you use? Avery ones work well.
|
we used the hottest setting and everything i dunno i think it was just bad stuff we got maybe it had been there so long the adhesive wore off or something it didn't look old tho...oh well we'll figure out something guess we just won't have our shirts for our first meeting...:(

PEZ...Why I'm leaving...PLEASE READ!
Hello everyone…I have been corresponding with Lauren [last named deleted] about starting the sorority Rho Sigma Zeta on our campus for over a month now, and I’m going to share this letter with all of you because I want to be able to voice my reasons for leaving the group with all of you since I know Lauren will voice hers as she did about the first girl, only I want everyone to see WHY people interested in the group are now leaving, and I hope it will be a letter of caution to all of you:
Lauren and Gina: Thank you for allowing me to be one of the first people you welcomed to help make history with by starting a new organization, however I must decline the offer for the following reasons and I hope you will use all of my reasons to make major improvements to what little of an organization you have. 1) I cannot allow myself to be used by you to do work for an organization I am supposedly helping to found, whether it is a founding mother or daughter. I have asked repeatedly to be involved in the revisions and proofing for the constitution you have started. I have been a member of many organizations while in high school and allowed me to make proposals, revision to membership booklets, and student govt. documents, yet you do not want me to help in a department I am will diverse in. I’ve asked to be part of forming questionnaire and applications for interested members, but you refuse. If I am to be part of an organization that claims to have room for everyone to make their own, why do you insist on not letting me help make the organization better? 2) The lady that left before me questioned why you felt the need to organized another multicultural sorority on a campus that already has 3 and you shouted disrespect and offense because you are not forming as a culturally diverse organization, yet you want to provide “culture” to sisters of your sorority. Are you speaking of culture in the sense of Arts and Entertainment if not cultures of the world? This is just one of the many examples of the un-organization you have not overcome yet. I cannot commit to an organization that keeps its members or interest in the dark about the organization, but continues to inform members of other Greek organization of their doings. Keeping other updated is acceptable, as long as you understand that these people are already in an organization and those interested in yours should be first priority if you plan to keep them interested. 3) I cannot be a part of something that laughs in the face of those willing to support it. Being on Greek chat seems like a good source to get ideas and advice from, but when the asker is using those offering their help only to steal their creativity and laugh about them being naive and gullible isn’t something I want to be a part of. Looking at other sorority websites for ideas is one thing, but when Lauren impersonates herself as an interest to see how they recruit is another thing. I can’t be a part of an organization who makes fun of those offering their help on Greek chat. 4) I cannot be a part of an organization that does not pride themselves as ladies. You asked me to help organize a mixer/party that has the theme “Bro’s and Ho’s” where at this party guys are to dress like pimps and girls like sluts!! What type of image are you asking for? Another party you wanted was where a guy and girl would be handcuffed to each other for the whole night…and everyone watches to “see what happens” These type of “events” you think are going to get you noticed is what everyone Greek organization has been trying to avoid…you are keeping the stereotypes alive and making sororities that uphold themselves as ladies work harder to avoid that stigma because of your tacky taste. Attempting to do functions like this isn’t going to get you noticed for the charity work you want to do with kids. Does Delta Gamma Pi aware of the socials you want to do…I don’t think any sorority that wants to keep a good reputation is going to do a co-function with you if you stereotype yourself as weak organization that only has one thing on their minds…this gives a wide spectrum for people to label you a slut like in your theme. I hold a higher value of myself than you do, so in good faith I can not subject myself to such a label. Now those reading this may not believe what I’ve written, but I have no reason to lie. I went to Lauren and Gina with an open mind and a willingness to make something better, however they have shown me that they can not work with other people if they don’t agree with them, they don’t have the self respect for themselves to make a creditable organization and they do not respect anyone who has offered them advice on this Greek chat. Like I said before, you may not believe me, however I hope you will keep what I’ve said in mind when Lauren starts asking her next up coming questions on how to recruit, advertise and establish a good relationship with other Greeks on Purdue’s campus. I am 20 yrs old, and I’m looking to find a sorority (on my campus or not) that will value my ideas, utilize my talents and help me to further my education through sisterhood and networking, while at the same time getting a dedicated member that will be proud to say they belong to a reputable organization. If you respect my decision to no longer pursue Rho Sigma Zeta and would be interested in introducing me to your organization, please let me know. Mahria edited to remove last names - BetaRose |
I'm deleting what I had originally posted here because what I wrote was unkind and I had no right to post it. I was just in a bad mood and responded by chewing out poor Lauren...and that wasn't the right thing to do at all. :( I'm so sorry!!

I have been browsing this thread simply because I am a founding sister of my chapter, and I think I have had some experiences that may be valuable to a new local. I have not given any input yet, but now I must step in here.
I think it is definitely a good idea to be straightforward and honest when leaving an organization. This shows integrity, courage, and a sincere desire to help make positive change. However, I think out of respect for "friends" and former sisters, these reasons should be expressed in private letters between the parties involved. Posting these matters on a public forum does little good for the sisters, ex-sisters, potential sisters, and readers of GreekChat. If you are looking for advice (and GC is a great source), simply post the basic scenario. We do not need a "she said this" and "she said that" play by play in order to give sound, unbiased advice. And we certainly do not need NAMES. Including names is really not a good idea. It is disrespectful and unsafe. It sounds like there are a lot of matters that need to be resolved before Rho Sigma Zeta takes off. I sincerely do wish the women connected with Rho Sigma Zeta the best of luck...if your intentions are pure. Starting something from scratch is NEVER easy, but if you have the determination and the best interest of your sisters in mind, you can make it work. You need to learn about trust, respect, and commitment. You have had a taste of the hard work, but it is also about LOVE...love for your sisters and love for what your organization stands for. And for the girls who have resigned, I hope that you can find the sisterhood that you desire. Your reasons show that you have given your decision a lot of thought, and I applaud you for taking the action that is most right for you. I hope you find a sisterhood that offers everything you want and deserve:) |
WOW! these interested people sure do have a lot to say about the organization in a short amount of time... http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/cwm/cwm/eek7.gif

the grls that quit we have never met...they were contacting us through email and we tried to make meetings with them so that we could get to know them and decide if they were right for rho sigma zeta how can u tell someone your secrets when you don't even know them in person?
the reason we kept her in the dark is because she was not yet a member we had not even met her...my thoughts on this are posted here http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...threadid=37723 we wanted her to be a part of it we just wanted to meet her b4 we made our decision...at the meeting that was scheduled for yesterday 8/10 we were going to get to know them and invite them to join us...this didn't happen tho and then today she unexpectedly and publicly quit...i'm sorry it had to be that way...she would have been a great sister... |
aLL i HAVE TO
