Reasons Why It's Great To Be An ADPi!

Roll Call! Sisters, list your top reasons on why it is great to be an ADPi!

Here's mine:

1) Our new members can wear letters, vote, come to meetings and hold office! They never feel like they are in the dark!
2) PRIDES!!! Tell me any other sorority that actively helps members really get to know one another better, by pairing sisters in small groups each term for fun activities and more one-on-one sisterhood events!
3) We are First and Finest... Forever!
4) We pioneered TME, and saved the Greek System by showing Greek membership provided community value and now almost every other GLO has membership education programs patterned after ours!
5) It's great to be an ADPi because no matter where I go, there will always be sisters to lift me when I am down and light up my life with our shared joy and laughter!

texas*princess 07-29-2003 03:59 PM

* it's incredibly awesome and unique to be part of the first sorority in the entire world!

* alphie is adorable!

* we help so many people through our international philanthropy The Ronald McDonald House, as well as our local philanthropies!

* we show that our membership is a lifetime experience! we have a TON of alumnae organizations so we can always stay connected to our sisters no matter where we move after college :)

and because...

**WE LIVE FOR EACH OTHER** :)

SLUadpi 07-29-2003 04:01 PM

adpiucf, couldn't have said it better! here's a couple more to add

1. Diamond Days!!!
2. i know it's cheesy, but i love Ritual, everything about it; I really believe it's what binds us as sisters!
3. Lions, violets, and blue & white.... never tacky no matter what the situation!

and I definately agree with you on our TME, we have a fantastic program!

honeychile 07-29-2003 05:49 PM

Maybe we should go with an ongoing list, since I agree with all of the above! I'm adding:

*A rich historical tradition.

*Sisters there at every juncture of your life!

*We "get" it!

*Who else can claim a Civil War history?!

*We're universally known as a class act.

*Paws are just so precious!!

I thought this apropriate for here...and I dont know if we actually have it posted anywhere else on greek chat.

ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE I LEARNED FROM ALPHA DELTA PI!

I learned that we live for each other.
I learned lions and violets can be worked into any décor.
I learned about sisterhood.
I learned about the beauty and power of women.
I learned that you can sing ADPi songs to your children.
I learned to follow the rules.
I learned never to say, "I was an ADPi."
I learned diamonds are a girl's best friend.
I learned recruitment week is the best of times and the worst of times.
I learned that practice makes perfect.
I learned friendships do last a lifetime.
I learned how beautiful memories are: Bid Day, Initiation, candle lights, dances and mixers, Homecoming, football games, graduation.
I learned that footsteps do echo and disappear, but memories of laughter and sisterhood are treasured forever.
I learned that my sorority is more than a ritual, it is a way of life.
I learned that you can never have too many ADPi friends.

Blue Violets 07-31-2003 03:29 PM

Not only are we the first and the finest ever ;), we are also the first sorority on my campus (Omicron--Duke) back in 1913.

Another great reason to be an ADPi: Ronald McDonald House, our international philanthropy--- it's an honor to be working together with "the house that love built" and helping children and their families find joy during times of illness and sorrow.

The Orlando-area ADPi's recently raised funds and decorated/donated an "ADPi room" to the Orlando Ronald McDonald House!

I definately agree!

The Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo, TX has "Alphie Camp"! I believe one of the ADPi alums from their area helped start it. The ADPi alums in Amarillo are so awesome! Every semester when my chapter goes to help them, members of their alumae group visit us :)

adpiucf 08-04-2003 07:01 PM

tell us more about Alphie Camp-- I'd love to hear! :)

nauadpi 08-04-2003 08:43 PM

Random RMH news, is they are replacing the one at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, Ca...I am curious if any of the alumnae in the area have been involved in that since there isnt a nearby colegiate chapter.

SLUadpi 08-14-2003 01:09 PM

another thing i just thought of!! ... we get to take the cutest pictures because of the diamond symbol we can make with our hands! <> <> <> diamonds are a girl's best friend! hehe!

honeychile 09-05-2003 11:08 PM

(Inspired by Blue Violets' post)

*We can personalize our pin to suit each of our individual personalities, and yet, it's still the same since 1851!!! :D

...

I agreed with everything on here...thanks for posting that, nauadpi!

As to everyone else's reasons, each one is wonderful...the only one I can think of is:

* You get to meet women from all over the country (and in some cases, the world) that otherwise you may never have come across, and they become the best of your friends because you share the bond of sisterhood

honeychile 09-10-2003 08:57 AM

*Making diamond-shaped cookies & petit fours are SO much easier than a lot of other designs!

*Coconut makes good manes for lions!

Lalala... someone's in the kitchen with HONEY, someone's in the kitchen, I know-o-o-o,
Someone's in the kitchen with HONEY.....

:)

It's great to be an ADPi because there always new bonds to form, and new friends to be made, and wonderful ideas to share! I'm so proud to be an ADPI!

Ain't it the truth?!

You're talking to someone who won't get ChemLawn because she has beautiful wild violets in her yard, and she picks them & make violet ice cubes with them!

I'm hopeless!

Hopelessly in love with Alpha Delta Pi!!!! :)

ooh, what a cool idea! I never thought of anything like that before...

adpiucf 09-10-2003 06:25 PM

It's great to be an ADPi... because who else gets WILD about VIOLETS? Or about WILD VIOLETS, for that matter? :)

honeychile 09-10-2003 09:37 PM

They're just so pretty!!! I took some photos of some of the violets which were growing through a stone wall I have, and the developer marked a couple that he thought I should enter in a contest!

And trust me, photography is NOT one of my better skills!

*you can randomly meet other sisters online, and you feel like they really are your sisters even though you've never met!
then when you do get to meet them, it's even cooler:D

ADPiZXalum 03-04-2004 05:33 PM

One of the best things about ADPi is that you make friendships that are so strong and true that after you graduate, even if you havent talked to a friend/sister in over a month, you can always pick up the phone and pick up right back where you left off, and she will always let you cry or laugh with her. She will share your joy and your sorrow. I just had a breakdown the other day and I cried for a long time to one of my best friends/sister whom I haven't talked to in a while and it was like our senior year when I would drive over to her apartment (or she to mine) and we'd sit on the porch and talk and laugh or cry or look at cute boys driving by, you know........Those were the days. I miss my chapter. :D

honeychile 03-04-2004 09:42 PM

I gave one of my genealogical seminars the other day (thank you, Sisters, for your encouragement!), and the Regent of the chapter unknowingly gave me an African Violet for speaking!

ETA: They served petit fours, but they were very unimaginative ones. I thought of y'all the whole time! :)

adpiucf 03-05-2004 08:00 PM

Honey, give us more ADPi recipes!

TechADPI 10-29-2004 06:59 PM

BUMP! Great thread!!!!

Reasons why it's great to be an ADPi....

1) Having an instant connection with someone the moment you meet, just because both of you are adpi's! (or their wife, sister, daughter, sister-in-law, etc. is one!)
2) Being able to go back to your chapter after being gone for a year, and having sisters treat you like you never left. (I love my EE sisters!)
3) The MEMORIES!!
4) Being a part of the 'First & Finest'.... a title that will never change.

ADPiAkron 10-29-2004 08:03 PM

So you can attend initiation at a different chapter from your own as an advisor!! (Like I did tonight!! :) )

Congratulations....I get to do that two weeks from tonight! :)

My new reason it's great to be an ADPi:
Working with a collegiate to accomplish a daunting task (like the budget :p) and loving the relationship that develops as you learn how to do it together!

honeychile 10-29-2004 09:37 PM

Rereading this thread is a real trip! I have this urge to go make a few dozen Alphie cookies and some diamond petit fours!

Well, maybe tomorrow....

Edited to add:
For those of you who would like to try making petit fours, here's a very good online site: http://www.sweettechnology.com/cakes/petitfours.htm
I use a different recipe (basically pound cake for the base, then the same type of fondant icing), but this is VERY basic and plain. Bon Appetit!

One reason that I try to remember is that, wherever you are, you are an ADPi Lady. It never changes, never goes away---it is a constant in your life. And sometimes we all need that.

ADPi sisters are always there for you, no matter where you are geographically. I know sisters that will give you a hug and a smile to encourage you, even if they are miles away.....that's what's great about GC ADPi's!!!!!

ASUADPi 04-16-2005 01:19 AM

Okay I don't really know why I didn't read this thread the first time :)

1. Alphie rocks!!!!!!!
2. Being the first sorority is amazing.
3. And as Leslie said, meeting your GC sisters in person is just incredible. I will forever treasure meeting Shannan, Leslie and Jennie and I CANNOT WAIT to meet tons more at convention!!!!!

ADPiZXLes 06-15-2005 01:01 AM

My top five reasons (not necessarily in order) I am blessed to be an ADPi:

1. We have, without a doubt, the prettiest mascot and colors!

2. You can wear letters and come across other ADPi's in the most unexpected places: on the ski lift in Ruidoso, New Mexico; in China!; and just gettin' a coffee at the local Starbucks! ADPi's ALWAYS say hi!

3. The heart of an ADPi is true blue and genuine!

4. Our founders were amazing women who were truly ahead of their time. They were among the first women in this country to go to college at the first college ever chartered to grant degrees to women. How brave they were to seek out an education for themselves in a world dominated by males. How smart they were to seek out and rely on the friendship and sisterhood of fellow women!

5. Our sisters encourage each other to be the best women we can be. Our sisters love us for our strengths and love us in spite of our weaknesses. Our sisters love each other unconditionally because We Live For Each Other!!!!!

*EtaNu*ADPi* 06-16-2005 12:38 AM

I agree wholeheartedly with everything that everyone has said! I am so proud to be an ADPi and there are just so many reasons!

-- We have an amazing sisterhood. This past year, one of my chapter sisters (and best friends) lost her aunt to cancer. ADPi got 3 teams together to do Relay For Life. During the luminary ceremony, they read her aunt's name, and she burst into tears. Every ADPi there gathered around her and we all just hugged. Pretty soon we were all crying because it's so good to know that even though we aren't all best friends, we are SISTERS, and we really do live for each other.

-- We have a beautiful ritual and a beautiful pin. I love to wear my pin to chapter and know the meaning behind it!

-- Our new member program is so well-rounded and inclusive! I love how we embrace our Alphas from the very beginning and let them be a part of it all!

-- The leadership opportunities are endless. From holding a position, to being on Exec, to being a Pride leader, to being a Diamond Sister...we learn things that will help us in the future!

-- Our philanthropy does such great things for children and their families all over the country. "The house that love built" ...couldn't be a better fit! From cleaning the house, to doing yardwork, to making dinner for the families, it's all so worthwhile and a great cause.

-- We were the FIRST sorority...now that's something to be proud of! First and Finest!

-- I see about 5 ADPis everytime I walk across campus...always someone to say hi to!

-- We are so well-rounded and unique. I've already learned so much from my sisters! One lived in Germany and since my heritage is strongly German, we talk about it a lot! We have (at least) one girl who is Jewish and another one who is Muslim that gave an educational talk at chapter! So interesting!

-- Another example of how we Live for Each Other...My Diamond Sister studied abroad in Spain second semester. While she was there, she had one of her good friends be my "adoptive" Diamond Sister and watch out for me! She sent me e-mails all the time to see what I was up to. Now I am going to Spain in a year and I already have a place to live. The host mom she stayed with has hosted many students from my school, most of them being ADPis. In fact, the Spanish host mom has requested that ADPis live with her! :)

....and so much more! Yay ADPi :D

because your sisters are there for you no matter what!!!!

I came home from class last night and I saw that my puppy, Shelby, had destroyed the house. In the process she had destroyed two frames and the pictures inside them. They were pictures of me and Jennie (polarpi). I was devasted. I cried for almost thirty minutes. I managed to calm down a little until Jennie called and I started up again. Jennie was calm though. She asked me if they were the pictures we took at the A (at California Adventure) and the one from Sea World. I said yes and she said, I've copies I'll send you them. I then started crying cause I was happy. OMG I'm crying now.

I give this story because I'm sure each and every sister can think of something another sister has done for them. And it's the little things that count!!! :)

I love my sisters!!!
