Sexy versus Cute

This came to my mind today after several guy friends said that my new, shorter haircut made me look "cute", whereas before I was "sexy"

Question for the ladies:
Would you rather be considered cute or sexy?

Question for the guys:
Which do you prefer- cute or sexy?

Some sociological gene in me went into gear when I started thinking about this.

twinstars 07-28-2003 06:37 PM

cute

I would probably have the world at large see me as "cute," though I think it's probably possible for a woman to be both cute and sexy at the same time. I think "cute" is approachable and someone you bring home to mom, whereas "sexy" might be a bit intimidating or one-dimensional- definitely hot but is there more to her than that?

OUlioness01 07-28-2003 06:58 PM

cute...i've been told i'm both and i like thinking i'm cute better. it just makes me feel better about myself, i'm not really sure why.

texas*princess 07-28-2003 07:05 PM

My guy friends have always told me that I was "cute" and one day I questioned why it wasn't something else?

Why CUTE ?

My guy friends later explained to me that in their opinions, a girl who was cute was way better than a girl who was "sexy" and that they would much rather date a girl they considered "cute". A girl who was cute was the kind of girl they would want to take home to meet their parents, and a girl who was sexy was just.. well, umm.. I don't think I have to explain that one.

But they were just a few out of many guys in the world ... so some other guys may think different.

I personally like being considered cute ;) :)

FuzzieAlum 07-28-2003 07:28 PM

I hate being called "cute." Not that "sexy" is what I'm aiming for, either. How about pretty? Elegant? Classy? Sophisticated? Beautiful?

IheartMATT806 07-28-2003 07:39 PM

I think I would much rather be considered "Sexy." Although "cute" is nice, sometimes that doesnt cut it. Both have their own time and place, just depends on the situation.

AXPGoBot 07-28-2003 08:28 PM

You all should at least be feeling lucky you're called anything.

It's not too often at all that I'm called anything but "okay."

But I guess it works different w/ guys :-/

docetboy 07-28-2003 08:30 PM

Everyone calls me cute, and I don't like it. It makes me feel like i'm a 10y.o. kid.

Hootie 07-28-2003 08:37 PM

I'd go for cute, but I'd rather be called classy than cute. I've been called sexy in the bedroom, but that's totally different. That's exactly ONE TIME I wouldn't want to be called cute :p

bethany1982 07-28-2003 08:46 PM

Depends on who is doing the calling. I'd take "cute" overall.

Rio_Kohitsuji 07-28-2003 08:49 PM

I prefer my boyfriend to regard me as sexy, other than that I really don't care what other guys think :p

Starlet 07-28-2003 08:56 PM

Different guys have told me that I'm cute and sexy. But when they tell me I'm sexy, I get kind of embarassed just because I don't see myself as being sexy. But a compliment is still a compliment nonetheless, so it doesn't really matter to me.

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-28-2003 09:23 PM

I've always been cute and it drives me nuts. I've always wanted to be breathtakingly gorgeous :p and if not that at least considered beautiful. But no, I'm just cute. I think it's maybe b/c my sense of humor is similar to a 9 year olds. ;)

Dionysus 07-28-2003 09:33 PM

It depends who it's from.

IMO
cute=pretty and youthful
sexy=pretty and mature

KillarneyRose 07-28-2003 09:59 PM

Cute, always cute.

I mind less and less as I get older and older, though.

Rudey 07-28-2003 10:16 PM

It totally depends what position I'm in.

33girl 07-28-2003 10:32 PM

The first time someone called me cute I thought it was sort of bizarre...after all I'm 5'8"...I thought I was over the "cute" height limit. I will take either, however. :)

GMUBunny 07-28-2003 11:05 PM

I think being called "cute" makes me feel sexier than being called "sexy" but maybe that's just me...

PiEp299 07-28-2003 11:07 PM

Depends on what I'm looking for :

One night stand or random booty call = sexy girl
girl to actually spend time with = cute girl

Kristin AGD 07-28-2003 11:23 PM

I would love to be called "cute". But that is probably because I have been curvaceous since I was in the fifth grade. No one ever considered me "cute". I always wanted to be one of those petit, little, "cute" girls. I wear pink, put bows in my hair, but no avail. I get thrown in the "sexy" category.

MeLikey 07-29-2003 12:11 AM

I get "cute" and "sexy"... it also depends on the situation... how you're dressed-- when I go to the bar I'm usually dressed "sexy" (in a classy-trendy way of course!) but there are times I'm dressed more "cute" and casual, depends on my mood. I like being told "cute" though... suits me better.

CC1GC 07-29-2003 12:15 AM

yeah, i get cute/hot on a 1:1 ratio. I like cute girls myself, easier to read.

starang21 07-29-2003 12:17 AM

my girl is sexy as all hell.......she's way to fine to be considered cute. you save that ish for like puppies and ish...let her be FINE. or better yet..FOINE!!

This totally made me laugh and struck a chord with me, too... ever since I was in jr high guys have always called me 'cute'. Never hot, never sexy, just cute....I'm the "friend that's a girl" like, always.....
Anyway, whenever they call me that, I'm like, I'm 5 frickin 9! Guys wanting a 'cute' girl don't ride this ride!!! LOL- then again when a guy does call me sexy I get really confused b/c i could never see myself that way....I think it's called having an identity crisis!

IHeartAXO 07-29-2003 02:28 AM

Classy?
---------

Trust me, you'll get SICK of being called classy! I swear, 'classy' is the adjective EVERY person uses to describe me! Throughout my house, I'm always "so classy" and it really starts to annoy you. I mean, it's a compliment... but at the same time, I'd really like to hear something new. My big sis used to call me 'the classiest girl' she knew and she'd throw it in whenever. "I chose this flower for my lil sis because it's such a classy flower... just like my lil sis!" And whenever I have to fill out a survey that has me choose 3 adjectives to describe myself, I always ask someone else. They're first response is always "classy." Even at work, when I mentioned that I was the only hostess who went to a public high school, my manager responded "Well, you're classier than any private school girl I know!" WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! To me, classy can kinda carry a negative meaning for someone who is kinda "prude-ish." Kinda "cold" in a way. Like, I think of Carolyn Bessette or Gwyneth Paltrow as "classy" and yet, they can definitely come across as very cold or bitchy to some people? I don't know, maybe I'm just having a hard time seeing the compliment in it. I mean, I'd rather be considered 'classy' then 'trashy'... but STILL!

I would LOVE to hear something new. And not "nice." I would kill for a nice, cute, straight guy to call me "pretty" or "beautiful" or even "hot." I think that would make my year- and it would definitely help me feel better about myself and my self-confidence.

sigmagrrl 07-29-2003 08:22 AM

To be called cute is to be seen as their little sister

To be sexy is to be seen as a conquest.

I'm gorgeous...

honeychile 07-29-2003 09:02 AM

Personally, I thank the good Lord that I've been considered all of the above!

There's nothing wrong with being cute, sexy, pretty, adorable, classy, gorgeous, etc, etc.

It's when people STOP calling you cute, sexy, pretty, adorable, classy, gorgeous, etc. etc. that you need to start worrying! :)

DWAlphaGam 07-29-2003 10:04 AM

I'm usually called cute. I think my boyfriend is the only person who says I'm sexy. But, I really don't mind. I like being cute. :)

My friend and I actually had this huge cute vs. sexy debate with our boyfriends, because we both agree that our boys are cute, but not really sexy. (Although, of course, we think they're sexy. It's just that the general public would probably not think of them as sexy.) They threw a fit because they wanted to be hot, not cute. We told them that it just wasn't possible because they're cute and nice and "boyfriendy." So now they call themselves the "miscellaneous men" because they're sexy enough for us to go out with them, but they're not really sexy overall.

The1calledTKE 07-29-2003 05:03 PM

Both are fine anytime but cute is a more outside the bedroom thing, sexy is more of a inside the bedroom thing.

GeekyPenguin 07-29-2003 05:28 PM

I think I am doomed to be cute - short, blonde, and hyper.

Dude I'm the same way, except I've got brown hair. :p I guess that's why I consider you my twin, at least you appreciate my ridiculous sense of humor haha. :D

Optimist Prime 07-31-2003 01:38 PM

Girls should be both sexy and cute at the same time. Then they will be pretty and beutiful and all other good stuff. If you're wondering how to achieve this, I might suggest curly hair.

LOL. On top of always having wanted to be considered "cute". I always wanted to be blonde! My whole family were blondes, except me. And now my daughter is blonde. When I go gray, I am gonna be a blonde! Still probably won't get to be "cute".

I'm sorry - I would like be called sexy just once, if that's any trade off! I'm sort of curvy but have always been so involved in sports that it negates any sexiness. :p

Jadey28 07-31-2003 03:55 PM

I always hear my boyfriend and his friends call the girls in Maxim hot. My question is, what makes a girl "hot?" Is there a difference from sexy?

Yes, there is defference between hot and sexy. Though the differecie is ineffible. Its truly quite magical. When a girl is hot and looks hot at you, right at you, its like she's slapping your soul with a paddle.

Optimist Prime 08-01-2003 03:33 PM

Cute and sexy are just labels, and are just how other people precieve you at any given moment. If one guy says you're cute he could mean sexy and not cute, just not having confidence to tell you you're sexy. Also, the samething can work in reverce. Basically either is a compliment. Learn to be pretty with out lables like pretty and you'll be hot with out labels like hot. Thus you will emerge beyond cute and sexy.

Try having a girlfriend who tells you your penis is cute right before she gives you a blow job. I think she does it on purpose when she doesn't feel like giving head because she knows I hate it when she talks about my penis so carelessly, it steifels the bullshit that comes flying out of my mouth about why I need head.
