Major haircuts

Anyone have a major haircut lately?

My hair's been LONGGGG for about 4 years now, and I just got about 7 inches cut off 2 hours ago. I like it so far, but it's a big change. We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow AM after I shower and try to do my hair.

Senior year of high school my hair was even longer than it was earlier today, really nice highlights, etc. Over Christmas break something possessed me to get it hacked to my chin (note: previous to this my hair had never really been shorter than my shoulders) and dyed a light blond. Loved it at the salon, HATED it the next morning.

Spent the next 2 years trying to grow it out. God I hope I like this cut more than that one.

I'm about to get a major one atleast for me. I've not cut it since Feb. and I am gonna cut it to my usual length here in about a month.

Munchkin03 07-27-2003 07:34 PM

I cut mine to probably 3" all over about a month and a half ago. I love it, and my hair grows out so fast, it's probably up to about 5" now.

Yesterday I went for a drastic cut! My hair is a really pretty shade of blonde with lots of natural highlights so I didn't mess with the color. But, it used to be a little below my shoulders with a few layers and a boring center part. As of yesterday morning it is to my chin with lots and lots of flipped out layers and a side part swoopy thing across my forehead:eek: Very drastic! (Think Reese Witherspoon Sweet Home Alabama and that is my new hair!) I styled it on my own this morning and it is actually one of the easiest cuts I have ever had! Ten minutes for blowdry and straightening, some defrizz serum, wax, and hairspray and I am set to go! It took me 15 mins before to make it look decent! It makes me look a few years older, so instead of looking 16 (I am 18), I now look at least 20! yay! And it is so fun to play around with and try new hair styles out on! I reccomend it!

Your new haircut sounds exactly like the one I'm going to get. And you started with the same length I have now as well. Now that I know it's easy to style, I'm mush more excited about going and getting the cut!

I'll bet you look great. I need one too...

2 months before my wedding, fiance dumped me...I had hair to my belt-loops, which he loved & would not allow me to cut (great '80's permy hair...oh, and it was the '80's, so it was OK). Day after break-up, I cut it all off, even back of neck got shaved...considered mailing the ponytail to him. Decided not to be so fatal attraction. I loved the short hair after having it long forever.

Oh, and we got back together and got married on the original date...he has never said a word again about how I should wear my hair for fear I will do the opposite.

I'm growing that cut out right now; no matter what I always seem to go back to the chin length bob I've had since I don't know when! CardinalSM is right, though, it's ridiculously easy to style and it is a cut that looks adorable on everyone :)

Dani, I remember your hair as being seriously gorgeous and long. I'm sure it's still seriously gorgeous, just not quite as long! :)

Almost 7 years ago, I took the plunge and chopped of my long hair to chin length. After the first day, I decided to let it grow long. If I want to cut it shorter in the future, I will only allow it to be slightly below shoulder length!

I got my hair all cut off about a month ago. Used to be long, curly and HOT! Now it's straight (which I have to do, damn natural curls!), shorter and very updated. Think flipped on the ends, part down the side. Even men at work gave me compliments and they notice NOTHING!

Allie 07-27-2003 11:16 PM

I got mine cute two days ago. My hair has been through some dye disasters this past year, so I knew I had to get a decent amount cut off. So I took pictures with me of what I wanted, and I ended up with shorter than what I expected:( I know it will grow but my hair doesn't come close to touching my shoulders. It looks terrible straightened, so I keep it with my natural curl, and everyone seems to compliment it then.

Think short, the front has a few layers to frame the face, and the back is stacked. I call it my soccer mom hair :( I think it will look much better as it grown out a few inches *sighs and waits for my hair to grow* And the only hope of pulling it up and out of my eyes in windy weather is pigtails :(

MeLikey 07-27-2003 11:41 PM

My hair has been long (ends around the chest) for the past 2 1/2 years. I just graduated from college and *when* I go into the workplace, I'm not sure if I should have the same long straight hair that everyone loves or a shorter haircut that makes me look more mature and professional. Lately, I've just been pulling it back into a slick ponytail. What do you guys think-- keep the long hair or go for something more sophisticated when I start working?

dzsaigirl 07-27-2003 11:45 PM

My hair is long, straight and red. Like Donna on That '70's show. It is all one length and I am sick of it. I am scared to do anything to it though.

Freshman year, I had the chin-bob, then junior year I had just past shoulder with layers but now it is long and pretty but blah...

I am not into having to go all out in styling my hair either, so a cut that requires pomades and spray and stuff is probably not for me. If I can find a pic, I will scan it sometime...

Any suggestions would be welcome :)

Two Novembers ago I changed my haircut style for basically the first time ever. I'd always had long straight hair, to the middle of my back, and bangs, but that was BORING and made me look like I was 12 or something. I grew out the bangs, got my hair cut shorter than shoulder length, and got cute flippy layers, and I've kept some variation of that cut ever since. With cutting it like that, my hair suddenly became wavy/curly and now I can wear it like that when I want, but the downside is that I have to heavy-duty blowdry to get it straight. Hmm, this thread reminds me, I really need to get a haircut before rush...

I say keep the long hair. Long hair looks sophisticated so long as it is healthy and well maintained. And a low ponytail is always classy looking.
:)

MeLikey 07-28-2003 01:26 AM

Thanks! Yeah, I think I'm leaning toward keeping it long, I was looking in my mom's magazines and the models dressed in business attire had long hair (some pulled back and some with long layers-- granted they are models) and they still looked sophisticated (again granted that they're models and are supposed to look like that!).

I have the same problem! I love my hair -- it's straight and all the way down to my bra strap (hey, it's a measuring point! :p ), and I get a lot of compliments on it. But I'm worried about how professional it will look when I enter the workforce. But I figure as long as it looks classy and current and healthy, any length is okay. You don't necessarily have to slick it into a ponytail every day. I only do that around 4:00 when I can't stand my hair anymore. :)

I get "major haircuts" about once a year (after formal of course!)

I tend to get major haircuts after spring formals, and the rest of the year, I just get trims... I don't know what the deal is, but I've just now noticed that I do that every single year.

LeslieAGD 07-28-2003 05:56 PM

About three weeks ago, I chopped off about seven inches. I hate short hair, but I needed to revitalize my hair and get rid of the discolored and split ends. It's slowly starting to grow back and I am just aching to have it longer!

kddani 07-28-2003 06:05 PM

Day after thoughts

So it's been a little over 24 hours since the hack job.... I like it, but I miss my old hair somewhat.

In trying to get a more grown-up cut, I look more youthful - i'm betting that I'll get carded more.

Another unforeseen side effect: several guy friends told me that with my long hair I was sexy, now with the new haircut i'm "cute". Not sure how I feel about that............

AlphaXi4983 07-28-2003 06:47 PM

the semester i rushed i chopped off just about all my hair  and that was last spring... but just a few weeks ago i got a perm, which is way big for me seeing as i've had very straight hair since day one and it has never been able to hold a curl.

I had about the same amount taken off a few months ago. I am loving my hair cut for the summer. It's easy and fast to do. The only thing is sometimes when I'm out at the bars I miss my long brown hair. lol.

astroAPhi 07-28-2003 09:21 PM

MeLikey, wear it however you want! Long hair can be very elegant!

I keep seeming to go back to the same haircut, and I can never seem to style it right. Sigh. :( I think I need something to slick my hair down a bit but pomade seems to make it too greasy... I should really give the stylist a call and ask what she used, because she made it look perfect.

MeLikey 07-28-2003 11:55 PM

astroAPhi,

To get my ponytails looking really good (easy to slick back without using any gel), I wash my hair the night before, air dry it (I never blow dry), and go to sleep with a low ponytail. I wake up and brush my hair back and pull it tightly back and it's perfect every time... spray it with a little hairspray and you're good to go!

astroAPhi 07-29-2003 09:24 AM

Thanks MeLikey, but unfortunately, my hair follows this equation:

Curly hair + air dry = astroAfro :(

MeLikey 07-29-2003 11:45 PM

Ah, yeah I have poker straight hair... I always wanted curly hair though... I like the way curly hair looks in a pony tail... I even started getting perms when I was in 3rd grade! I stopped perming in 7th grade though, then it was on to highlights!

Optimist Prime 07-31-2003 01:36 PM

I just got one. A little short but I still look good.

swissmiss04 07-31-2003 01:43 PM

Three years ago I chopped off my hair (which was @ the small of my back) to shoulder length and gradually got shorter and shorter. And I hated it more and more. So now I'm in the process of growing it out. I am thinking about something drastic, so should I go for change in color or texture?? Any advice?

GMUBunny 07-31-2003 01:43 PM

Beginning of my junior year of high school I chopped all my hair off almost as a rebellion against the uber-prissy attitude of what was feminine at my school (it was really long and layered). The back was shaved but it contoured in the front and looked very very cute. I would have kept it that way but my stylist moved to a more expensive salon that I couldn't afford and no one else could recreate it. So, I spent 2 years growing it out and I just recently cut it up to my shoulders. I'm seriously contemplating finding a stylist that can do that cut again, because it was easy to maintain and still looked very feminine.

ilovemyglo 07-31-2003 01:43 PM

I graduated and went to the workplace and I work at a very business attire type deal (think suits and slacks and for casual fridays, a logo polo shirt with khakis- no cargos!). Anyway, I still have my long blonde hair... and everyone here is envious. If I wake up late, I put my hair in a ponytail, pull it up so that I can clip it from above the pnytail holder and then arrange the hair so that my clip is hidden underneath.. it looks very nice, simple and classy and is so easy- takes no time at all.... so long hair is great for the work place! Buns are always easy and classy too!

sigma3 07-31-2003 01:50 PM

I actually got a perm earlier this year, and I'm getting another on Monday. Not a really tight one, but just so I have some waves in my otherwise stick straight hair. My length has run the gamut from short to long, and I have to say I like it either way, right now I'm trying to grow it out again.
