summer birthdays suck...
my birthday is aug 12th... a tuesday.
a good portion of my best friends will be out of town that week. I will most likely have to work that day and the next. Any suggestions on what to do? Or if you just wanna rant along with me. if you have a birthday during one of the busiest vacationing weeks of the year. Raise your hand! |
OK, my birthday is in the middle of November. I don't remember a b-day that wasnt filled with freezing rain or snow.
|
Chideltjen,
My B-day like your is in the middle of the weeK this year (Wednesday 8/6) I will either celebrate the weekend before of after (depending how it falls every year). You could always have your party on a Sat/Sun b4 then treat yourself out to a nice meal or fancy dessert on your birthday.;) :) |
My birthday is on Thursday (7/31) and I hate having a summer birthday. This year, there was a wedding the weekend before, I'm in a wedding the weekend after, and all of my friends who aren't working are 300+ miles away. Again, I HATE having a summer birthday!
|
OMG!
WAIT TILL YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE ANY MORE! :D
Oh my young Greek Freinds, you no not of what you talk!:D |
Yeah, summer birthdays suck. Mine was 7/20
|
December 20. I got this many times as a kid:
"Here Tristan, this is for Christmas AND your birthday." Cheap bastards. |

My birthday (8/4) falls on a MONDAY this year. Normally I'd be pissed, but most of the sisters are already back in town for Summer Session 2 and a wedding that falls on the Saturday before.
My 21st fell on a Friday, so that was all that mattered. This one will be my 24th, so it's not like I'll be wanting to celebrate that. |
I agree! Mine was 7/23, a Wednesday, and NO ONE could go out! It sucks!
BUT... I've already decided I am having a HUGE bash next year! HUGE! BIG! STUPENDOUS!!! |
We celebrate my birthday once in every four years, somewhat. Sucks being born on Feb 29. So we always have a fake birthday party for me on March 1. yay. I am so young, I am 6 years old this year :p
|
My birthday is right around Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving dinner was always turkey and stuffing followed by ice cream cake. It was many years before I learned that the "traditional" Thanksgiving dessert was pie. :p And I, too, got the "here, kid, this is for your birthday and Christmas/Hanukkah" thing.
My 21st birthday was actually on Thanksgiving. None of my friends was available to go out drinking with me, nor were there any bars open anyway. Sigh... :( |

Think summer birthdays suck???
Try after summer birthdays, sept oct, nov, dec. espcially ones where there is a 'rite' involved. ie- I was the last person to get a license. i couldn't go out to the clubs. NOW is the worst. 'hey cara, we're all going down the shore and then to the bar, wanna come for the weekend." umm NO, i was cursed with a late birthday and i'm still 20!!!!!! i have one friend who is not 21, and her sister-in-law who is 25 and pregnant. they are the only 2 people i get to hang out with this summer. GGGRRR:mad: If i ever have kids, the child will have a) a birthday before july and b) a normal name that they can find on stickers and pens and posters and stuff (don't get me started on that) whew- i feel much better now. |
Yep, I've got one of those birthdates that sucks. Mine is December 1st and like DeltaSigStan I got the "here this is your birthday/christmas present". That wouldn't have been so bad but often it was something small - now my sister and one of my brothers would always get a small present for Christmas and birthdays but I would get a small present combining both days.
Also, my other brothers birthday is on December 8th. While I was still little (until about 8) if the day was during the week we would end up with combined celebrations. Not good for him when I'm 10 years younger then him. What I've ran into the past couple of years is that my birthday has been on the tail end of Thanksgiving weekend so no one has been in town to celebrate or was out doing holiday shopping. That was a big bummer for me when I turned 35 last year, I wanted to have a big blowout but couldn't Carolyn |

My older daughter's birthday is August 13th and last year she was upset because she couldn't get all her friends together to celebrate. So this year, we had an early party for her at the beginning of June so she could have her friends all together and we're having cake and ice cream just for the family on her actual birthday. |
My birthday is one week from today. As of right now, my biggest question is whether I'll have to go visit my parents for my birthday, or if they're coming here. Last year, I had to go there, and I even got the honor of baking my cake -- so they could have it.
For those of you with birthdays close to Christmas, here's something that may make you feel a little better. When I was growing up, my grandparents always remembered my birthday, but they never gave me my gift until Christmas. By the way, their neighbors had a daughter my age whose name differed from mine by one letter. So, I would go to their house for the family gathering, and find a ton of gifts with the neighbor's name on them, along with one with my name. Grandma couldn't keep our names straight. One year, she handed me an extra gift, told me it was my birthday present... I got all excited. Opened the box to find a sweater. So, I got a sweater at Christmas for my birthday, which was AUGUST 3. At least they didn't forget... ETA: KillarneyRose ~ your bday is my anniversary. :) |
My niece's birthday is on December 25, and she LOVES it. Why? My family comes into town for Christmas, and she's made the deduction she's the only family member who gets to celebrate her birthday with everyone in town. We have a family party for her, and usually on the 10th or 11th of December, she has a party with her school friends. I think she's the only person who has made having a Christmas birthday work for her. :) She gets so many presents that my sister hides half of them and gives them to her over the course of the year so she won't get overwhelmed!
My birthday, on the other hand, is smack dab in the middle of finals. Every year of college, I had a paper, major project, exhibition, or thesis presentation on my birthday--and most of my friends were busy with finals. I always celebrated my birthday on the 12th of May--after finals were over! :D |
I love having a summer birthday. The week of July 10-16 is so special. My cousin's birthday is July 10, his mother, my aunt birthday is July 12th, my birthday is July 13th and my aunt and uncle's anniversary is July 16th.
I also love have my birthday smack dab in the middle of summer because Dave Matthews usually plays on my around my birthday. This year he was in Little Rock. He also tends to release his studio albums around my birthday. What better present could one ask for then that? :D |
my birthday is this tuesday:
my family will be on vacation WITHOUT me...same as it's been since my 16th birthday and i have to work all week. i hate the summer...none of my sisters even live around me :( |
My birthday is actually tomorrow, and this is one of the first years where I really DONT want to do anything...
I mean, I love the few friends I have on the cape, but I would love to celebrate it with my sisters and the guys of Sigma Pi, too bad they're all an hour or so away. . . |
My B-day is August 8th (24 years old) and it's on a Friday this year, which is nice :). I;m going out to dinner with friends then going out to a club. Usually for my b-days i'm on family vacation. Its great and all but sometimes u just wanna be with ur friends. My 21st bday was bad, it was on a Tuesday and it was the last week of summer school (chemistry 1b). So I had 4 tests that week. I couldn't go out, it sucked . I waited til the weekend to celebrate my b-day.

i remember my 7th birthday i think. i had a boy/girl party for an afternoon. All the boys came and played legos in my brother's room while about 6 out of 15 girls came. It was an interesting day. Point is, that seemed to be a popular week for people to go on vacation.
I can't imagine being born on Feb 29th. I do know a lot of people born around Thanksgiving and it's always kinda awkward to throw parties. My friend's 21st is Nov 25th... right after Thanksgiving. NO ONE is gonna be in town. |
always hated being a summer baby

At least I'll always have someone to celebrate it with. http://216.40.249.192/s/otn/party/hb2.gif But I was never happy with my summer birthday - no one was ever in town. If I could "plan" on when to have a baby, it would definitely NOT be in the summer! |
So my birthday is right after Summerfest and the 4th - and nobody ever wants to go out - I hate it. I spent my last few birthdays doing really exciting things like sitting at home with my parents.

And DolphinChicaDDD -- I always get that, too, about being the youngest in everything. In grade school, I was always the youngest because the cutoff was sometime in late August. I have a friend who's a year behind me in school but only a month younger than me. |
My summer birthday is within a few days of my sister's birthday, father's day, and my parents' anniversary... so I'm usually broke after that.
|
We must have the same relatives! My birthday is December 28th.
To add insult to injury: My grandfather died Wednesday evening 12/28/49 at 10:15 PM (my mom was 7 at the time) My grandmother had 5 kids under the age of 10...AND was pregnant with twins I was born Wednesday night 12/28/66 at 10:15 PM (My mom was due to have me 12/25) Weird huh? So I hear this from my grandmother "Happy Birthday, this is the same day your grandfather passed away!" Quote:

mine was yesterday... I hate having it in the summer too!
when I was little and all the kids brought cupcakes into school for their birthday, I could never do that. I felt so deprived. Anyway, this year, my roommate and one of my sisters (who were both born July 15) and I are having a huge party when we get back to school. Other than that, I went out to dinner with 2 friends, but nobody else ever seems to remember summer birthdays! |

I'm on the cusp too. My birthday is August 23 which sometimes shows up as Leo and othertimes it's Virgo. I think I lean more towards Virgo though.
