Is Your Glo House Haunted
http://www.inform.umd.edu/News/Diamo...mmentary8.html
Again since Im bored at work just wanted to know if anyone else knows any stories about "ghost" in GLO. houses???? When we serenaded the hauneted KD house the lights dimmed....I for one know that I was freaked out but I wasen't all the way there so.... All the KD girls say that a girl hung herself like years ago in one of the houses in the room and ever since then things have not been the same. |
My sister is living in the Tri-delt house, right next to KD, at UMD next year. Girls in her house have told her that "wierd stuff" goes on at KD during the night.
She totally thought they were joking around (b/c KD is their biggest "rival" on campus) but i'm going to send that article to her! |
IM so serious something is wrong in the KD castle I call it "KD Compound" I usually dont believe in that stuff but my friend that is moving into the same room it has happened has convienced many nay-sayers.:(
|
We have a resident ghost, Donna. I don't remember the story, but I think she was killed in a car wreck on Milledge Ave.(Sorority Row). My sisters say she usually comes around the Founder's room at night if you are studying alone. Some girls have heard her in their rooms. For example, Mary was going to sleep(her room mate was out) and she turned off the light and plainly heard "Goodnight, mary"

The LXA house/lodge at my first school is haunted. I don't remember the name of their "ghost" but some *weird* stuff definately goes on there sometimes!!!!
Their 'ghost' was a LXA brother and something bad happened to him a long time ago. I think it happened in the 70's (or somewhere around there) on the property... older brothers who have graduated always bring it up during homecoming. |
What's that thread about ghosts? There are bunches of haunted chapter house stories on that one. auakl put an Auburn story on it that was soooo scary--I personally would have left the house had that happened to me!
|
Our chapter house was certainly haunted when I was an undergraduate! Our house is one of the oldest around the campus, built in the 1870s and a private home until the chapter bought it in 1958.
Wierd things were always happening, and people actually saw ghostly figures! Some stories I recall: *We had a swivel rocker that sat in the living room. A brother said he came down the stairs once to see the chair slowly swiveling around by itself! *A brother who's family lived locally always stayed in the house during breaks. One night he was watching tv with the house lights on, and decided to run to the convenience store at the end of the row. He left everything on, but locked the door. When he came back ten minutes later, the lights and tv were off. He checked the fuse box, but the tv and lights had been turned off...and the door was still locked! *Many brothers (including myself) watched the attic and basement doors open and close by themselves numerous times. *A brother was lying on a couch in a downstairs room when he looked up to see the hazy figure of a man cross in front of the doorway, and pass through the wall. The spot where the figure vanished is the walled-up site of the former front door! *Our house mascot, a black lab, always used to stand at the top of the basement steps if the door was left open and stare. Sometimes he would bark or wag his tail while he sat there. *There is always the sound of footsteps when no one else is in the house, and you can hear someone walking up and down the stairs all hours of the night when no one is there. These are things that happened to me personally in the house: *As a pledge, sometimes I would sleep on a couch downstairs rather than make the long hike back to my dorm. I was frequently awakened by the sound of footsteps in the wee hours of the mornng. They would come down the stairs, but there would be no one on the staircase (I could see the stairs from the couch)and the footsteps would move all around the downstairs. Sometimes they would even sound like they would stop right by the couch where I lay for a minute, then start back up! * I lived in the house my senior year in a single room (I was also house manager). Because the house is old, it has very high ceilings and everyone sleeps in lofts about 7' off the ground. One night, I had just gotten into bed, but hadn't fallen asleep yet, and rolled over to see this glowing light about the size of a tennis ball hovering in the center of the room. It hovered there for about ten seconds, then dropped. I heard a sound like something falling on newspapers on the floor. I turned the light by my bed on, but there was nothing there. Including newspapers... * Another night, I awoke to the sound of someone kicking my door open, and it banging into the radiator behind it. Thinking it was a brother of mine that came home drunk and thought it would be funny to F*** with me, I stuck my head over the side and let loose a flood of obscenities! All I could see was the silhouette of someone standing in the doorway, lit up from behind by the hall light. Without a word, the door swung shut and I went back to sleep. I woke up the next morning mad, because I was sure that since I had deadbolted the door, I was going to have to replace the door, lock, door jam, etc. Imagine my surprise when I found that the door was still deadbolted shut!!! Upon investigation I found that no one knew what the hell I was talking about when I thanked them for so rudely awakening me that night. It turned out that everyone had been back in long before my nightly visitor showed up! * There was a shelf under the loft and near the door to the room where every night I put my wallet, watch, keys, and ring. The ring held a great deal of sentimental value for me because it is a signet ring that had belonged to my grandfather who passed away just before my ninth birthday, and it is really the only thing I have that had been his. Well, one morning I wake up and get ready only to discover that the ring is gone. I figured it fell on the floor and look around for it, but have to leave to go to class. I searched the room for it when I returned with no luck. I started asking my brothers if they had seen it or if I had left it in one of their rooms. No one had seen it. I literally tore apart my room searching for that ring with no luck. Nothing. About three weeks went by without the ring, and I resigned myself to tell my dad that I had lost Grandpa's (his father's) ring when I called home on Sunday. I said out loud something to the effect of "God, I really want that ring back!" or something. The next morning I woke up and got ready, and the ring was sitting on the shelf where I had left it three weeks earlier!!! Last story - I swear! * So much activity was going on in the house, that a group of us decided to try a Ouiji Board to contact the spirit(s).(I know, I know, I've heard all about the danger of Ouiji Boards). We contacted not one, but three spirits who claimed to live in the house. Two were the ghosts of former owners who had died while living there, the last wouldn't identify itself, and it's answers were somewhat hostile. The next morning, I went outside, and scattered on the ground around my car were all the contents of my glove box. Well naturally, I thought that someone had broken into my car during the night. However, I discovered that not only were the windows intact, the doors were all locked, and the glove box door was locked (it rattled if it wasn't kept locked - really annoying). Nothing was missing, and no one could have taken my keys. We had a "psychic" come in and do a reading one time, who said there were multiple spirits in the house. I'm not really confident how psychic he was though. I'll leave it to you to decide, but definitely odd occurances at the Phi Sigma Kappa house! Sorry for the length, but I am fascinated by this stuff and love to share my stories! |
I'm fascinated too, but I'm also a BIG chicken! At U of H the Sig Ep house was definitely haunted! I couldn't even stand to go in it, it creeped me out so badly! There was one room off to the side, and not a single one of the brothers would go in there alone! Now when grown men are scared, that's creepy!
On a side note, the house my dad lives in his haunted. I WON'T stay there or be alone! I saw the ghost when I was younger! aj |

Have any of your brothers seen orbs? because that's a really rare thing to see. I've only seen them in pictures taken in certain spots in my house, and my house is literally a hotbed of activity! |
WOW there are some freaky stories around campuses. fortunatly our campus isnt TOO old and all the faternitly house are new and we havent gotten sorority houses yet so hopefully its not too bad here lol. I have heard that one of our dorms is haunted but I dont know anyone that has actually seen anything. so who knows about all that. we do have some haunted places here around Murfreesboro though..like out in Chapel Hill..freaky stuff too but anyways not gonna talk about those here :)

Our house is most definitely haunted - it is even featured in the book "Haunted Kansas." These were comments originally made about it in a different thread, but belong here as well:
Our chapter house was originally built as the Alpha Delta local fraternity back in 1929. During WWII, all greek life was suspended at the university, and the houses were used to support the war effort. Our house was used as a hospital...as legend has it, a lady being treated at our house fell in love with a man living at what is now the Alpha Phi house across campus...one day, the man left/died and the woman could not take the sorrow, causing her to jump down the circular staircase in the 'turret' part of our house, from the third floor all the way to the basement, where she instantly died, and has been in the house ever since. Occurances of the ghost happen almost every year, ranging from things that literally scare brothers into the 'fetal position' to unnatural occurences (example: this past year, a brother goes to the bathroom when house is near-empty and returns 3 minutes later to find a huge, extremely heavy dresser was moved across the room. Upon trying to see if a man could of done it, it was determined impossible without removing every single dresser drawer, which could not of happened in the extremely short time he was gone) There is a hidden 'room' underneath the floor of our living room, about 4-5 feet high and extends for the length of the room (the basement does not cover that part of the house), accessible by going down to the basement, and climbing up through a hole in the ceiling and crawling for about 100 feet. You can also see the room by looking down a tiny hole in the floor caused by an electrical outlet that was taken out. Brothers that have gone into this room in the past have left things behind as memorabilia, ranging from their pledge manuals to athletic 'orange cones' to letters to bottles of Crown Royale for future visitors. It has also been an unofficial pledge activity to go in the room together. Well, 6 years ago a brother was crawling his way between the first floor and basement ceiling trying to get to this room. Before he was able to enter the room, he tensed up and could not move any further, and heard a female voice saying "You don't belong here" - He made like crazy back through that passageway (where there is only enough headroom to be able to crawl on hands and knees) in seconds, through the hole in the basement ceiling into the basement, where he was discovered about 10-30 minutes later by brothers who found him laying in a fetal position, barely conscious, looking absolutely scared shitless. |
Yes, mine was supposedly haunted.

That's interesting b/c one of my brother's ex-girlfriends worked for a lady friend of hers at the lady's home which is haunted. She said that one time the lady's dog was sitting in front of her inside the house and then looked right beside her (she was the only person in the house) and started barking. Can dogs see ghosts? That's really interesting. What are orbs? |

I'm from UK like AchtungBaby80, and I've never heard anything about any of the houses being haunted -- what's the story on the DZ house? Hope the DZ ghost doesn't decide to wander, since we're right next door to you!
The dorm I lived in this past year (Patterson Hall) is supposedly haunted, though --- it's the oldest dorm on campus, and supposedly a woman living there hanged herself in the attic during WW2 because her soldier boyfriend died. Too bad women didn't actually live in Patterson during WW2...it housed soldiers. :p |
.......
AchtungBaby80, oohh...tell the haunted UK stories!!!! I love this guys, keep it coming!

I've also heard stories about the Kappa house, too...something about the basement and a boy, but it's been so long I can't remember the details. Ask them about it. |

So yeah....I've always heard that our house is haunted. It is something that I have truly believed because all of us always thought that it was Dorothy Garrett Martin (a member of our chapter in the 30's). We always knew that she was a "nice" ghost and the most that she would do is blink the lights off and on (or flicker them), open cupboard doors and shut them, etc. Nothing too frightening. All we would have to do is say "Hi Dorothy" and she'd stop. Well in spring of 02 we had a band (Oval Opus) play acoustically for us before they went to Kent to perform a show. While they were singing "whisper", Dorothy started flickering the lights that totally made Aaron stop singing. We were just like, don't worry bout that, Dorothy likes you...so he finished the song but he was definately spooked ;)
Last year, my grand lil and a couple of the other girls decided to break out the Ouija board in the "L" room. Well apparently they found out that it is not Dorothy that haunts our house but someone who is on a composite in the basement. Last semester, the two girls that lived in that room started experiencing some strange things and continually were freaked out. Michele would swear that she'd fall asleep watching a movie and instead of the TV staying blue when it ends like normal ones do, it would change channels and be all static. Miranda would be in the room and she would randomly hear the shower turn on at like 2 or 3 in the morning. When she went and checked to see if anyone was in the bathroom (which was right across the hall), the shower was off, no one was in the bathroom, and it was completely dry.... |
Western IL University is supposed to be the most haunted campus in the country...so of course our house is haunted...but not because it was built over a burial ground like the rest of the campus....
Our ghost's name is Linda and she was a pledge in the 80's before she was killed in a car wreck right at the corner of where our house was (but that house wasn't built until 1994). She always had it in for one sister in particular-this girl's boyfriend's uncle was the one who was in the car wreck with her. We don't know what she wanted. We thought she wanted to be iniated, but every time we asked her if she wanted to be initiated, she would not return for awhile.... I have more stories, but I have to get going to work..... |
haunted sorority?
I dont'; really have any stories from personal experiences but there are a few places on my campus which are supposedly haunted.
Rowan's first building, Bunce Hall, is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of one of the theater's early directors. A few stories about this were featured in a magazine called WeirdNJ (I dont' expect anyone outside to have heard of it, but check out www.weirdnj.com sometime if you've got nothign better to do, New JErsey isn't as boring as you think!). The sorority next door to us however is supposed to be haunted by orbs in the attic. Several of the sisters have seen them throughout the years, always in the attic, and always when you least sorta expect them to show up. The funny thing is that they used to live in our house (around 8 years ago) before we moved in. While staying there, they claimed that it was haunted there too! Something about a girl hanging herself in a doorway between the two rooms in the attic upstairs. Personally, I've lived here all summer and never experienced anything weird. Although one of my pledge Brothers lived in my room and he said that when he first moved in last summer and was all alone some nights, he'd hear footsteps walking around the upstairs and in the attic above. It used to creep the shit out of him. But there hasn't been anything like that even remotely for almost a year (maybe all the parties we had scared the ghosts away). Oh, we too have a couple of dogs that live there but they've never really gone bonkers for no reason or stared at anything that wasn't there (at least not that I've heard or seen). So maybe it's not the house that's haunted, but the sorority itself? Weird. |
Take a look at www.prairieghosts.com/oh-athen.html and there are stories on several "haunted" chapter houses at Ohio University.
Here is a link to a story about the Delt Shelter at O.U. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...ntou.html#delt Athens, Ohio is supposedly one of the most haunted areas on earth. Both links should now work. Some of my spirits are probably haunting some of the uptown bars. |
sadly the link does not work:(

Sorry, working on that. In the mean time, I came on this really unbelievable quote:
"Hanning Cemetery is another reportedly haunted spot. The ghost who has been seen here is an old man who wears a long robe. He is usually accompanied by the disembodied sounds of screams that echo into the night. There have been a couple of locally famous seances conducted at the burial ground, including one in 1969, when the heavily padlocked gate of the cemetery unlocked and opened on its own during the proceedings. During another seance in 1970, the spirit of David Tischman, a deceased Ohio University student was supposedly contacted by a group of his friends." David Tischman, a member of the Tischman Real Estate empire family, was one of my pledge brothers. He was killed in a tragic automobile accident. I had never read about or heard of that "contact" before. |
Troy Taylor, the guy who runs prairieghosts.com lives in my hometown of Alton, Illinois and owns a bookstore there. He settled here because it is (arguably) the most haunted small town in America. It's been featured in lots of television specials!
|
Can anyone say Blaire Witch....even though the movie was cheesy people in that town dont play around with the legend nor the woods in Northern Maryland.

haunted house
[COLOR=teal]I'm totally bored at work as well. Yeah, I'm in Alpha Xi Delta and our house on Rider's Campus is haunted. The room that is haunted is actually next door to my room now. It's rumored that years ago two sisters got into a car accident together during the school year and now they haunt the house. We've had all sorts of weird things happen. One incident happened in my room where my roommate and I were in our room having a conversation with three of our then new members and my window fan turned it's self on and then turned off. It was plugged into a power strip with a couple other appliances and none of them were affected so it was really weird. There are more weird stories but there are too many to write down. Only that one incident happend to me though.

I am noticing a similar method of dying for the ghosts told in these stories. Its seems they either hung themselves or died in a car wreck. I'm not saying anyone is making these stories up of course! I believe all of you! :D Just was wondering about it...

the guy who haunts the LXA house (boyfriend's chapter) was stabbed in a fight that broke out one night. He was trying to break up a fight between two other guys, and one of them stabbed him to death :( (at least that's what their older alums told me :p ) All the guys there believe the house & lodge are haunted.. I've witnesses a few weird things, and I would *never* go into the house at night if it was all dark. (small house) it's just creepy ! |
actually looking back into Marylands history a girl did commit suicide in her room @ the Kappa Delta House in 82'. So there is history behind that....if she hung herself "we will never know"

I think that story might be used to explain why our attic is cemented up and we can't get in there. |
i dont get it...so she locked herself up in your attic killed herself....and now thats why you have your attic sealed. If thats true all I can say is woah.
|
The locked attic story is interesting. At Ball State, the senior dorm was the original men's dormitory. The fourth floor has been kept sealed off for years. The story always was because it was haunted by the ghost of a post-WWII disabled veteran who hung himself on that floor! I always thought it was curious that they kept it sealed because (at least when I attended) they always had a shortage of housing.

other hauntings
Was just thinking about this thread a few days ago and remembered something else I had heard from around here.
Another one of the sororities at my college is also supposedly haunted. The story is that the house caught fire a long time ago killing just about everyone in the family that lived there. The story says that a young boy was somehow the only one who survived the fire. He went on to live a relatively normal life (as normal as you can after surviving such a tradgedy I suppose) and later died. Supposedly now the house is haunted by what they think is his ghost. The sisters that live there all call him "Gus" and don't really mind the things that go on. The odd thing is, it's sort of like a helpful ghost, and it's really paranoid about fire. Example: a friend of mine was cooking dinner one day and left the wooden spoon on the burner on the stove. After a minute or two, the thing went flying across the kitchen. General things like that happen, always stemming from some sort of fire hazard. So it's like they have their own personal fire chief all the time looking out for anything else that might set the house ablaze again. |
