Plastic Surgery...

Would any of you have plastic surgery? If so on what and why...

Re: Plastic Surgery...

You know, I've thought about it so many times, but honestly, I doubt that I would ever do it....I mean sure it would be awesome if my chest was a size bigger, but it's not like its at all neccessary you know...plus I think we've all got to learn to love our bodies!

SATX*APhi 07-24-2003 03:45 AM

I would get my nose done. I don't like it.

honeychile 07-24-2003 09:01 AM

If I ever get to my goal weight, I will have a tummy tuck, no two ways about it. I see nothing wrong with plastic surgery if it will truly make you feel better about your self - it's the people who get addicted to it that give cosmetic surgery a bad name.

Nikki_DZ 07-24-2003 10:09 AM

Breast reduction, without a doubt.

I always claim it's my first reward to myself when I get "big girl" insurance-lol. I just want to be a perky B or C cup!

Ginger 07-24-2003 12:07 PM

I am having augmentation surgery in the next few years.

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-24-2003 12:12 PM

I've already had my nose fixed. Primarily b/c I got hit and I needed it to be fixed, but I figured I might as well make it look a little better too.

Over thanksgiving break I am getting the under side of my chin done. I am excited for that b/c I hate my chin.

Luckily my dad's partner is a very good plastic surgeon...discount plastic surgery here I come! ;)

PiKA2001 07-24-2003 12:23 PM

If I were ever to get cosmetic surgery it would be a nose job, only because I have a broken crooked nose right now.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-24-2003 12:34 PM

I might, but I haven't. I don't know how I will feel in a few years. I know quite a few people who have had nose jobs, breast reduction, and face lifts. Not me, not yet. ;)

I've been thinking of it for a little while. Ever since I saw "triple H" from WWF I decided I wanted to get bicep implants. It's not something a lot of men have had done and from what I understand it's expensive. My dad thinks it would be a waste of money. Before get it done I also need to gain a little bit more mass on me, mainly because i don't my arms look huge and then other parts of my body look wierd because of it. Yet, when I'm older I know it'll look kinda funny with huge arms at age 50. I think that is the only thing keeping me from doing it.

CutiePie2000 07-24-2003 03:34 PM

Do your research and go!

I had my nose done at age 25 and it was the best decision that I ever made!

SigkapAlumWSU 07-24-2003 05:32 PM

I've had plastic surgery for scar revisions. (Birth defect and dog attack) It's another side that people don't think about often, but a very important one. I've had the same plastic surgeon since I was 3 weeks old. Two weeks ago, I had on of my final revisions, and it makes me feel so good to know I had this available to me. In that revision, I had my nose fixed/corrected, something I have always wanted to do.

I think that there is nothing wrong with people getting plastic surgery. If I could, I'd do more.

I would get this done too. I like my chin, but the "stuff" under my chin and profile could use some firming up. :)

MoxieGrrl 07-24-2003 05:45 PM

Hmm....I thought about getting liposuction before because I'm always paranoid that my thighs are going to go cottage-cheesy. But the horror stories in women's magazines always show people whose thighs end up looking worse than before. I don't know if that is the exception or the rule for that type of procedure...

Breast implants sometimes seem like a nice idea. But the thought of having big, bouncy breasts when I'm 70 freaks me out. :)

LoL ... I never thought of it that way before :p

If I were to ever get plastic surgery, I think maybe I would get a nose job... I will probably never get it done though :)

That would be around the age that I would get my nose done, if I were to get it done. A little over three years and counting. ;)

SparkliiQTMTSU 07-24-2003 06:57 PM

I think if anything I would maybe get a breast lift in like 20 years if I decided that they became a lil droopy or something. I thought about liposuction only b/c Im in the acting and music field and well Im lazy or at least I used to be and just wanted the easy way out but now I love workout classes especially in the morning! they just make me feel good for the rest of the day! but I'll tell ya what i would like to do is get some of my little beauty marks or freckles whatever they are on my face gone...Im not sure how easy it is to do that but theres like 3 that are just annoying and I want em GONE!

Nichole

You wouldn't, unless you have them done when you're 60 or so. Implants only last about 10 years, which is why I don't think I'd ever do it--you have to go back and have them replaced. Ugh...

I think I would consider liposuction, though. I'm just so paranoid about looking yucky when I'm older...my stepdad is very hard on my mom since she gained weight from her cancer treatments about six years ago, and I never want to go through that.

GMUBunny 07-24-2003 09:20 PM

I wouldn't do it...My sister and mom both had plastic surgery and their results were less than desireable. My sister is permanently bruised from her operation and my mom has horrible marks on her legs from her lipo. The risks are too great for me to be that vain. Now, if it were a medical emergency like my face was horribly disfigured in an accident or something, I'd maybe try it.

As far as insurance, MOST insurance plans will not cover plastic surgery for whatever reason. It's not a medical necessity so they won't cover it. Even if your breast size is causing major back problems (happened to a friend of mine) they won't cover it. Make sure you really really want to do it befoer you fork out the cash.

It depends on the insurance and the extent of the complications. I know several girls who's insurance paid for their reductions.

~

In theory, I'd go up a cup size. But then I start picturing everything they have to do during the surgery and I get repulsed! If there is ever a breakthrough that makes the surgery not so icky, I'd would do it.

crystalline 07-25-2003 06:43 AM

I think I would get either lipo or a tummy tuck.

I think this is very unfortunate. I have a great insurance plan, and my surgery is considered reconstructive, but they still will not cover it. So I am going to have to come up with some big bucks. :(

aephi alum 07-25-2003 10:23 AM

I have a birthmark I'd like to get rid of... one of these days.

When I wanted to get my ears pierced, my dad made me go to a plastic surgeon. Local anesthetic in the earlobes and all that good stuff. He was convinced that if I had it done at a jewelry store it would get infected.

AZpinkkittie 07-25-2003 10:25 AM

I'm all about the lipo/body contouring. I'm pretty healthy and fit, but there are those damn problem areas! Nothing a little suction couldn't help :D

I didn't even know plastic surgons would even DO that! That's so weird!

Edited to add: I guess they'll do anything if the price is right!

When I was 7, I got my ears pierced at a jewelry store. About two months later, they became infected, a neighbor had to remove the studs and the holes closed up. When I was 13, I got them pierced again, but this time my doctor did them for me. I have had them for 17 years with hardly a problem.

Speaking of plastic surgery, I would only have a breast reduction. However, a relative had a nose job when she was about 16.

As a bigger girl, I've become accustomed to relatively perky DD breasts.

I've been working out and losing a lot of weight, and I'm now a straight D.

If I go below a D once I'm at my goal weight, I'll be giving myself implants as a weight-loss gift.

Munchkin03 07-28-2003 11:41 PM

It all depends on the insurance provider and plan. Ours covers all reductions, because they can be either preventive medicine or relieving the various problems that come with having very large breasts. I have friends, from the children of physicians to Gap employees, who have had their insurance cover their reductions.

I had plastic surgery when I was younger after an accident. It wasn't disfiguring, but it had the potential to be as I got older. I plan on getting implants, 'cause I think some serious weight loss around boob-growing age impeded what would have been natural growth (as evidenced by female relatives on both sides of the family). We have private insurance, but a family member who works for Uncle Sam had the cost of the operation covered by Tricare (not the implants, though).

dzsaigirl 07-28-2003 11:49 PM

My mom has implants. She had so much tumorous tissue in her breasts that they had to do a double mastectomy in order to do the pathology to find out if it was cancerous. So there was so much crap in there, they ended up removing everything!

They left her "open" on the table while they sent her tissues to the lab to get checked and since it was all benign, they put implants in to reconstruct, as she had asked if the results were negative. Had the results been positive, they would have stripped her lymph nodes and closed her up with no implants and started chemo, so it is good that there was no cancer...

Anyway, she started out as I think an A...She is now a C...so she used it to her benefit!

And in THIS case, yes, it is covered by insurance.

Oh, and one of my best friends had a reduction and my ex-boyfriend had lipo! HA! On his man-boobs!

Buttonz 07-29-2003 01:00 AM

Breast reduction down to a C!

KappaKittyCat 07-29-2003 10:11 AM

Watching Nip/Tuck has gotten me started thinking about it.

What I would like:

Bigger breasts
More symmetrical face
Mole removed from beneath my nose
Liposuction

What I will probably do:

Work out like crazy and learn to love myself.

There's a line from Nip/Tuck that kinda stuck with me.

Chris: "We help women feel better about their bodies."
Sean: "We help women externalize the hate they feel towards their bodies."

Hootie 08-05-2003 01:32 AM

I'd get a boob job probably. That and lipo! HA! I don't mind my chest really because I know someday if I have kids it'll get bigger...but yet it'd be nice to have them look good first and stay put later in life. ;)

DeltAlum 08-05-2003 03:26 PM

With my luck, if I had my face lifted...they'd drop it.

Munchkin03 08-05-2003 03:32 PM

Oh, I forgot. Face lift as a 55th birthday present to myself. From the looks of the women on both sides of my family, I don't know if I'll need it. But I'll have one.

bafromkc 08-05-2003 03:51 PM

I heard the other day on the news that kids were getting plastic surgery instead of birthday and christmas presents. This one girl got plastic surgery instead of going on spring break. are you serious? spring break is the best why would you ever pass that up? some people just have a lot to learn.

KKC, by all means watch Nip/Tuck for the entertainment value (and to gape at Sexy Demon Boy :D ). It's definitely a fun show to watch! But remember that the writers are in there exploiting every plastic surgery stereotype you can imagine (hot doc who sleeps with patients, doc who hates his job, patients with unrealistic goals...pretty much the whole show!).

It's kind of like a Beverly Hills 90210 look at the world of plastic surgery - if they showed normal family men without angst who have no desire to boink their patients or perform surgery on their random hook-ups, the show would be boring and no one would watch it! :)

Maybe they're just being practical. Spring break is a week, but plastic surgery results are permanent or at least last a long time. Besides, she can go on spring break next year with her cute new nose, feeling good about herself, and having a great time! :)

goldendelta 08-05-2003 09:02 PM

I don't know if this counts as plastic surgery, but I really need LASICK. My eyes are horrible. I'm sick of contacts and glasses. I want 20/20 vision!

recentASAalum 08-05-2003 09:11 PM

I would never get a boob job or my nose fixed or anything... cuz in the end I would still find another body part to fixate my dislike on... I think liposuction is pointless if you don't adjust your eating habits and exercise to keep the fat off... otherwise you'll just end up getting it right back if you stick to the same old eating habits... I'm not to worried about the way I look... if I want to change it that much I'll stick to working out and eating right!!!!

ZetaMelOU 08-05-2003 09:17 PM

I'm not big on plastic surgery but I would like to get it on my nose because I have a deviated septum and iwll have to have surgery on it anyway.

SDTSarah 08-05-2003 09:56 PM

I doubt I'd ever do it, but probably lipo or a tummy tuck. Actually, my biggest problems are my stretch marks and the little acne scars on my face. Still, nothing that drives me crazy. Since I've started losing weight, I've really been amazed at how much better I feel about myself. Sad, but true.
