Pledge Name

What's your pledge name and what dose it mean? Mine is Buttonz after the dog, Buttons in Animaniacs. Buttons was always there to save a little girl, Mindy when she got herself into trouble (which was pretty often!). My big saw me as someone who was always there to help anyone who needed it!

DeltAlum 07-21-2003 07:03 PM

It's been so long ago I don't remember, but I'm sure it would be considered hazing today.

DolphinChicaDDD 07-21-2003 07:08 PM

Scuba Steve

I took SCUBA diving lessons when I was pledging. I announced it once, and all of a sudden, that was my name.

SigkapAlumWSU 07-21-2003 07:25 PM

You know, that remids me, there are about 5 Scuba Steve's on my campus, all in different houses. And apparenly, almost all for different reasons!

honeychile 07-21-2003 07:34 PM

We didn't have pledge names per se, but I was "Fluff Queen" "Fluffy" and "Fluffalot" due to a bad hair experience. I overconditioned it, and it turned into a giant ball of fluff!

NoShame_Gamma 07-21-2003 08:19 PM

Mine is...

NO SHAME! :p

FAUNikki 07-21-2003 08:22 PM

We have nicknames in my sorority. Our big... I mean "Sapphire" Sister gives it to us. So since I am so crazy about celestial things, stars, moons, suns, etc. My name is Stella. That is Italian for star. Oh ya, cause im Italian too!

Senusret I 07-21-2003 08:45 PM

APO - Buffalo Soldier

APhiA - Mr. Matter-of-Factly

DGMarie 07-21-2003 09:15 PM

In Tau Beta Sigma (national marching band sorority) mine was "m'aidez" (as in MAYDAY) and my jersey number was 911. This was when 911 first came into being so it was pretty cool. I guess I needed a lot of marching help. And I was a French major.

Glitter650 07-21-2003 09:34 PM

We have sisterhood nicknames that we get after new member period... mine is band-aid, but I'm not at liberty to say why ... :D

GeekyPenguin 07-21-2003 09:48 PM

Mine is B-AV...usually prounounced Bee-ahve but sometimes BAV.

Stands for born-again virgin. :p

Nicknames for my new member group were out of control because there were so many of us - my favorite one was Schlongdragger. One of our sisters was nicknamed Ballswiggle because of her last name, and it got turned into Schlongdragger.

baby_KA83 07-21-2003 10:06 PM

Gilligan because when I was a freshman I used to wear a fisherman's bucket hat and the fact that I am a skinny man wearing that hat made it easy for the members to give me a name

goldendelta 07-21-2003 10:15 PM

Oh, I could get in trouble for this.

We have both New Member nicknames and sister nicknames. Your class gives you the New Member name and your "mom" gives you your sister name.

Well when I was a frosh I was really big into the WWF, especially DX. So I got the name B.S.I. Raw. B is for the B-Squad which was our class name, everyone had a B. S.I. is for "Suck It" which was DX's saying. And Raw was for what I missed every Monday to go to our meetings.

So then my sister name became "Succit DX." My mom didn't want Suck It spelled out on my jersey, but the DX also had a little calc meaning, which is where I met my mom. And of course my jersey # is 69. I didn't mind. I wore it proudly because Terri didn't really want to give it to me but all the other sisters pushed her to.

tunatartare 07-21-2003 10:16 PM

Daisy because I collect yellow rubber duckies and I'm obsessed with them and Donald Duck's girlfriend was named Daisy Duck. I looooove my name.

MooseGirl 07-21-2003 10:25 PM

I'm Casper cuz I'm friendly and I'm like a ghost; besides being somewhat pale, I'm also very quiet which makes me "invisible".
At a mixer once I was sitting next to my Big and she asked "Where's Jen?", when I was sitting right next to her on the same couch!!!

Yeah, so that's me, Casper, the friendly ghost. :)

crystalline 07-21-2003 10:27 PM

Well then. Sheesh. I was never given a pledge name. But my nickname for the last 3 years has been Bubbles, and most anyone who hears that nickname thinks of me. Yup. Cuz I rawk like that. :D

steelepike 07-22-2003 04:23 AM

well i was given the pledge name "Chamber of Secrets".

first off for some reason I got the nickname Potter from the Harry Potter books and that movie was just coming out. So my pledge name had a tie to my nickname.

moe.ron 07-22-2003 05:59 AM

Scudz

To this day I still haven't figured out why.

*falls out of chair* haha---we only have 1 of those on this campus, didn't think Scuba Steve would be a really common name! :p

MoxieGrrl 07-22-2003 09:42 AM

My name was originally Chipmunk because of the way I laugh. It morphed into several things over time, but I hated it. No worse than my pledge sister's name of Blow Pop. :p

astroAPhi 07-22-2003 09:43 AM

I never had a nickname while I was pledging, but I'm one of 4 Nicoles so I'm Nicole #1 or just #1. And for some reason our newest New Member class decided they love my last name so they scream my name at the top of their lungs and write it all over campus with chalk. :o

AlphaSigOU 07-22-2003 10:32 AM

Back in the days when I was a pledge... on Bid Night we all got drunk out of our skulls. Reportedly they found me passed out next to the keg, tap in hand, thus I earned the pledge name of 'Keg Monster'. (My tolerance for massive alcohol comsumption is a lot less these days.)

WhirlwindTNX 07-22-2003 11:04 AM

Well ours isn't called a Pledge Name, but it's along those lines. . .

Here's mine: Whirlwind, but the meaning is a secret. . .

Little E 07-22-2003 11:51 AM

Mine is Little E or Lil E...they've completely stopped calling me by Erinn, except when they get pissed at me  I got it because there was another girl named Erin and she refused to go by 'Big E' she thought is sounded bad :D The sad thing about a small school is that names get spread to other houses so most people call me Lil' E now oh wells

One of my favorites was 'shadrienne' and our Pres we call 'Puppy' the best nicknames come from drunken nights at Phi Psi :D

Oh man - I'm that way with a whole fraternity. I hated it because this dad was looking for directions to his son's house one day. I was wearing letters so he stopped me and asked directions to the XYZ house. I told him where it was and then he asked if I knew Billy Bob, his son. I said I didn't think so, just to be polite. Later on I see the son, who I know as a rather derogatory pledge name, eating dinner with them and he says "Hey, how's it going, these are my parents, blah blah blah..." :p

AXOMarq 07-22-2003 01:15 PM

not too creative

We don't have pledge names, but we do have some nicknames. The president was introducing my roommate (who was rushing a semester after I did) to some other actives and she somehow messed up my name. So for a long time I was just called by my last name (I swear, I heard my last name shouted across the campus at times). Then at greek bowling, they started calling me bags (a shortening of my name) and that's sorta odd.... because a guy in a fraternity has the nickname of bags.

It's kinda embarassing because someone will call "Bags" at greek bowling and we'd both turn around....

SigkapAlumWSU 07-22-2003 01:33 PM

I've never had a pledge name, cause I guess we just don't do that, but I have a very common name. Each semester there are at least two of us with the same name, and as of right now, there are three. (I am dreading another in the fall pledge class!) Since it's just too hard for us all to be called the same thing, I started getting called BC because of my last name. It's much easier, and now when I'm on campus, if I hear my real name, I hardly ever answer to it, but if you shout BC, I'll know it's for me right away!

The only problem is when I get introduced to people, I tell them to call me BC and it always involves a lengthy convo why, so now I just tell them "BC, like British Columbia" and they shut up.

GMUBunny 07-22-2003 02:18 PM

We didn't do pledge names, but one of the older sisters just yelled out "Smurfette!" one night during a flag football game. It stuck.

I don't know half of the fraternity guys on campus by their real names. I do know a Dirty Sanchez, Juicy, Balls, Diddy Kong, Country, Sunshine, and Leroy. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

DZHBrown 07-22-2003 02:27 PM

We didn't have pledge names.

*Falls on floor laughing* Scuba Steve in the greater Toledo area is the guy who owns Car Stereo 1 and does really annoying commercials that always end with him dressed in a scuba oufit saying "Turtle" (picture a fortyish man in a tight scuba outfit wearing glasses, there's a pic on www.carstereoone.com) hehehe

So on to pledge names, we don't have them but we have interesting nicknames, mine's *blushing* Shady *coughs* for several reasons and I guarentee none are as bad as your thinking!

A fraturnity on our campus (they shall remain nameless b/c I would want to get them in trouble) whom our chapter is very "close" to (literally) all of their pledges have nicknames and buttons. Buttons are the funnest thing I've ever seen. An Acive "pushes" the pledges button (either by keyword or by pushing on whatever activates it) and the pledge has to do "their button" some are things they say, others are things they actaully do. Thses range from breaking out into n'scyc dances to proclaiming their love for "not so small girls" They don't have to do it, that would be hazing but they all do it in good fun.

The fraternities here have their pledge pins 'activated' too. It's hilarious. I got kissed by the same Phi Sig at least 20 times and one guy serenaded me with the brady bunch theme.

BSUPhiSig'92 07-22-2003 02:56 PM

EVERYBODY in my chapter has a nickname of somesort. In my pledge class there were 3 of us named John. I became Chip (cause I was such a prep) which metamorphasized into Chipster (the most common), Chipper, Chip Ahoy, Chip Aroo, (and any other brand of chocolate chip cookie),Chip-Chop, etc. My other nickname was "Mr. Sunshine".:D

AlphaAlum 07-22-2003 03:54 PM

I was Pledge Nun/ None back in the day, because I was the good lil innocent Catholic girl. I wounld drink none, do none nor take none.

My how things change! Now my nickname is Tiger because I can purr...>^"^<

We too have a scuba steve!

DolphinChicaDDD 07-22-2003 04:15 PM

Awwwee

I'm so excited everyone else has Scuba Steves!!!
I really hated my name to begin with, I mean come on- its a guys name. But now I'm learning to love it.:D

sigma3 07-22-2003 04:33 PM

There's a scuba steve on my campus too. While my sorority doesn't officially do nicknames or pledge names, a few of us have some. My Purple Pal's last name is really hard to say, so when she went through recruitment, we took to calling her Chex Mix, and it kind of stuck. Her big even got her a bag of Chex Mix for big/lil night. And, there are guys on campus who I don't know by their real name, but only by nicknames. My nickname is Amazon, b/c one of my good friends is really short and I call her Short Stuff, so she started calling me Amazon and it just stuck.

Courtney

CardinalSM 07-22-2003 05:21 PM

We didn't have pledge names, but some of the sisters in the chapter call me Grace because I have the inability to stand on 2 feet or walk without falling. I am extremely klutsy. The name really stuck when a bunch of us were spraypainting the SAE lion and we heard the boys coming and while running away, I knocked over a trashcan, tripped over it, did a few midair somersaults and face planted into the mud. That was after I sprayed myself in the face with gold spraypaint (I swear the can was defective, why doesn't anyone believe me??? ) So Grace has kind of stuck.

sigtau305 07-23-2003 01:03 PM

Mine was CLASH Because of my clothes I was wearing once on a Friday when my pledge class had to wear a Shirt and Tie. I had on a navy blue shirt with various designs on it and a Rainbow tie( I had most of my clothes in the washer during that day). that's how my pledge name came to be.
