MLB 2nd half prediction thread

Now that the 2nd half of baseball is here, who will win each division and win the world series?

Al East: Yankees, best team money can buy

AL Central: Kansas City, Its LIMA time:D

AL West: Oakland, they always go on a tear in the 2nd half

Wild Card: Seattle

AL Pennant: Yankees

NL East: Braves for the 12th year in a row

NL Central: St. Louis, but will anyone step up and push themselves away from the pack?

NL West: San Fransisco

NL Wild Card: Philadelphia

NL Pennant: San Fransisco, Bonds gets another title shot

World Series winner: San Fransisco, only because its so easy to pick the yankees to win that I won't

KSigkid 07-19-2003 03:24 PM

I like your picks, except switch around Seattle and the A's - I think Seattle is just too sick this year.

The way the Yanks have been without Jeter and Williams at full strength makes me think they're in for a big second half (although I hate the acquisition of Benitez).

The scary thing about San Francisco is that Alfonzo has been awful this year - if he has a good second half, they're that much better.

I think the Twins are going to make a run, because their pitching isn't THAT bad (and adding Santana to the rotation is a good thing, in my opinion).

In the NL Central, I think it will be interesting to see how Wood, Prior and Zambrano do with the Cubs depending so much on their arms. Sammy is on a tear, and if Alou and Patterson can hit well it should be interesting (although I think St. Louis will break away towards the end).

All in all it should be an interestin second half.

Collin

Kevlar281 07-19-2003 03:46 PM

Astros all the way.

GMUBunny 07-19-2003 04:16 PM

Yay for my Braves :D Now if they can just get their shit together and actually make it to the World Series and win, I'll be happy :)

CatStarESP4 07-19-2003 05:24 PM

NL East: Braves (it's a gimme)

NL Central: Cardinals

NL West: Diamondbacks

NL Wild Card: Phillies

NL Pennant: Diamondbacks

AL East: Red Sox (break that stupid bloody curse please!!!!!!!!)

AL Central: Royals, but White Sox could, if they get their act together

AL West: Mariners

AL Wild Card: Blue Jays

AL Pennant: Red Sox or Mariners

World Series Champs: Red Sox or Mariners

I think you should do more of this:

GO A'S!!!!!!!

I think that the A's are going to blow all the teams away again with another 20+ wins in a row. I love everything about them, and I hope that they get ot the World Series this year. If not them then I hope that the Giants get there and win. I really wished they had won last year.
What would be even nicer is if the World Series was to be a battle of the bay again!!!!

Detroit will break the single season loss record of 120 set by the 69 Mets. Unfortunatly I wanted my Padres to do it, but they decided to start trying.

I had hoped so... but they are playing just good enough to where they are above the pace for 40 wins. However... they could go on a 14 game losing streak. That would help things:D

Braves for the Series

All the Wild Card Races are gonna be tight, down to the last week or even game type races. Should be an exciting playoffs.

Tom Earp 07-19-2003 10:42 PM

Sorry Pro Fanatics, Screw MLB!!!

Give me Northern Leauge and My T-Bones, leading the West in the second 1/2 of the Season!

Give me Semi Pro Ball, where it is really played!

If I had My choice of seeing the Royals or the T-Bones +++ for The T-Bones!!!!

BaseBall in the way it should be played. Cheaper Beers/Food/Free Parking and intertainment!

DeltaSigStan 07-19-2003 10:46 PM

What are you talking about Tom? Everyone knows thaa baseball is about salary caps, players unions, negotiations, and spending over 200$ for a family of four.

Tom Earp 07-19-2003 10:50 PM

YO STAN, that what I be checken about Bro!:)

See Da Game For Real!

DeltaSigStan 07-19-2003 10:52 PM

Well, the Padres consist of a Triple A type roster, does that count?

I am a Big A's fan too so I think they will go all the way.

AOII_LB93 07-20-2003 12:14 AM

Can I just say how much it sucks to be a Dodger fan currently? They did the unthinkable when they sold to RM(he's the devil) and got rid of Piazza for KB...who by the way, too much money for too little production...UGH. I miss the old days...back when Scioscia was still in the blue uniform....*sob*

Well, I think it's going to take Hershiser going into the time machine to save you all now (and yes, you can quote me on this if the Dodgers go on a second half run with Rickey leading off).

Buttonz 07-20-2003 03:40 AM

As much as I HATE the fact that Armando is a Yankee (and I do), the way that they played the first half with so many major injuries makes it hard not to choose them as the fav's in the AL! (The fact that I am a huge Yankee fan might help!)

GiantsChic 07-20-2003 04:58 PM

I'm just gonna stay here and support my Giants :) ... they're having a great season, as are many teams. And it's always exciting when a lot of the divisions are close.

AGDLynn 07-20-2003 06:13 PM

BRAVES SCORE 8 RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 8TH TO BEAT THE METS 11-8 and sweep 4-games!!:D :D

HEY, TOM GLAVINE...how's it look on the other side of the field?;) :p

Yea, I know the 10-game lead doesn't automatically mean a World Series ring, but it's fun so far!:D :D

KSigkid 07-20-2003 07:56 PM

Sweeping the Mets isn't such a big deal - they are AWFUL this year.

Glavine is having a horrible year - but he tends to have those at times (although not as bad as this year).

docetboy 07-20-2003 08:00 PM

BRAVES WILL TAKE IT ALL!!!!

mwahahahaa

KSigkid 07-20-2003 08:08 PM

I really don't think the Braves are going to win it all - their pitching is just too suspect, and their hitting, although solid thus far, just isn't that impressive. I think the Giants and Cardinals are better teams overall.

docetboy 07-20-2003 08:10 PM

I'm still a braves fan, through hell and high water :)

I will ALWAYS predict they win :)

Can I just state for the record that I will blame the Dodgers' Gagne for screwing up home field advantage for my Giants when they make to the World Series this year? It was a conspiracy, I swear!!! :D

GO GIANTS!

As KSigKid said, sweeping the Mets really isn't that big of a deal because they really suck this year. And I'm a Mets fan. Yesterday my fiance and I were watching the game on TBS, and when the Mets were up 8-3 in the 8th, we called it... We said, "They are going to blow it." And sure enough they did. Their first mistake was to let their pitcher hit with the bases loaded and only one out.

Who would have thought his first blown save in 32 tries would be the all star game:eek:

Yeah I thought he might blow that lead but dang now my Braves don't have home feild for Smoltz to save the final clinching game in the series over the A's.

shadokat 07-21-2003 03:26 PM

Don't count out Florida...and as for the Mets, well, let's see, maybe they can sell Shea Stadium while they are at it. Last time I was up there (opening day), there were no lights in the bathroom!! UGH!

But, as a loyal fan, LET'S GO METS! By the way, did anyone see the game last week where they were cheering MVP when Roger Cedeno was up...oh my god, I almost died laughing.

I'd like to differ and say the white sox but they are too inconsistant. It was a nice series sweep by Minnesota over Oakland. The twins are still a good team capable of winning.

Doesn't matter if ya win by 1 run or 20, winning's winning and my Braves won!!! Born, living, and will die a Braves fan. Javy Lopez will be sexy forever and ever and ever :D
