Neat Freaks vs. Slobs

Are you a neat freak, slob, or somewhere in between? What do you think of people who are the opposite of you in regards to cleanliness (or lack thereof)?

I'm a neat freak myself, but I wasn't until college. I think I've turned into my mother.

See?! I even had to edit the post to make it look "perfect". Sad, huh?

shopgirl 07-18-2003 11:49 PM

I am a total neat freak.
I like things clean and tidy.
My s.o. is the complete opposite.

The1calledTKE 07-18-2003 11:53 PM

I am usually neat but I have my slobby moments.

AlphaFrog 07-18-2003 11:56 PM

I am neat at work...
I am very unorginized at home...

I guess that puts me in-between

tinydancer 07-18-2003 11:57 PM

Well, I have to admit that I am sloppy. Always have been. Only child of two pack rats, so I know it must be genetic. My grandmother, who lived with us when I was young, was the complete opposite. She never saved anything.

I want to do the play The Odd Couple - Female Version so I can play Olive (the sloppy one)

Dionysus 07-19-2003 12:02 AM

Being the schizo :p i am, i'm both. I have mild OCD (seriously), pretty much in the area of food and food handling. I wash my hands at least 10 times a day. I'm always watching over people to check if their cooking habits are sanitary. I will kill anyone who steps foot outside the kitchen/dining room, or especially in my car or room, with food. The kitchen and dishes must be spotless!

But when it comes to anything else, I'm kinda a slob. People have literally tripped while entering my room, because of all of the mess.

Kristin AGD 07-19-2003 12:17 AM

I was a huge slob. Never dirty, I just never finished putting anything away. One of my agd sisters moved in with me one semester. She actually moved out without ever speaking to me again. (Or even asking me to clean up, which was wrong of her, she didn't give me a chance). I just came home one day and she had moved her stuff out. But I do feel bad about being a slob. I wish I could go back in time and fix it. I am only slightly better now. So now I know better than to share tiny spaces with friends. :D

LOL. Piles are my friends. :p

SigkapAlumWSU 07-19-2003 01:02 AM

I can be both. Sometimes I am utterly lazy and just leave eveything laying everywhere. Granted, I know where it all is, so that's all the matters really. But other times I get this little compulsive cleaning bug, and all the messes anywhere near me must be cleaned, mine or not, and I don't stop until I'm finished. After that I have to keep everything spotless for at least a week before I can begin to let it go.

KillarneyRose 07-19-2003 02:18 AM

I am a total neat freak. In the past two years, I let go four cleaning ladies because they didn't clean up to my (admittedly verging on OCD) standards.

Also, I DETEST clutter! I'm not sentimental, and I don't like to keep things around after I don't need them anymore. When I DO keep things, they're in neatly labeled Rubbermaid bins. I have little boxes for each of my sweaters and, instead of keeping my shoes in the boxes they came in (which vary in size), I have them in identical boxes with a Polaroid of the shoes taped to them.

Unfortunately, Mr. KillarneyRose is the total opposite (I think this is the result of growing up with a FREAKISHLY neatnik father). He leaves towels and clothes all over the place, he doesn't wash out the sink after he shaves. OH! And when he makes the bed, he just pulls the comforter over the messed up sheets. The man has spent 20 years in the Navy, including USNA and the Reserves and HE STILL CAN'T MAKE A BED!!

OUlioness01 07-19-2003 07:43 AM

i'm so messy when i'm at home, but while i'm at school i am very neat and tidy. i guess i get tired of cleaning up after a while

OK, Emily Gilmore!!LOL :D

If you haven't watched the show, you may not know what I'm talking about, but she is notoriously firing maids for not living up to her standards!!

As for me, I'm not neat. I'm not messy, but I don't exactly clean up right away. I am much better NOW. Honestly, my slovenly nature was because of my weight. It was very hard for me to stand for long periods of time and clean so I didn't. But, I'm 100% better than before. Now, it's not a matter of laziness, or physical limitations. Now, I'm too friggin busy. Tonight is cleaning night. I haven't unpacked from my trip yet, I still have laundry to do, etc. Oh, and I'd be MUCH neater if I had a closet! LOOONG story, but all my clothes hang in a doorway....I hate when I live :(

Same here...In high school I knew I liked everything in its place, but I didn't realize until college that I was just like my mother and everything must be spotless. I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have roommates who leave clothes in the middle of the floor, never make up their beds, or leave dishes in the sink. OMG, lets not get on the bathroom, it must be immaculate. How can you clean yourself in a dirty bathroom. My mother always said, "If the toilet is not clean enough to drink out of, it's not clean enough."

Perhaps we were meant to be friends.
LOL:D

I am the exact same way. :)

LeslieAGD 07-19-2003 11:24 AM

I am a pretty organized and cleanly person, except in my home office. There is not enough storage, so the piles "run free!" :)

Thrillhouse 07-19-2003 01:45 PM

I can be a slob. But than I will have a cleaning urge one day and get everything cleaned up and swear I'll never mess up my place again. Than things slide for another few days:D

This is so me. Instead of having temper tantrums when I am mad, I try to clean instead...and then swear that I will never make a mess again! (I wish it worked)

Shine 07-19-2003 05:06 PM

I am an absolutely anal neatness and hygiene freak. I wasn't until I got my own place.

People that mess up their own places don't bother me, but I DO get really freaked out by dirty toilets and sinks, or when people mess up my place.

CatStarESP4 07-19-2003 05:29 PM

I confess! I am a slob, but I am trying to mend my ways. I fear that I would become a hyper controlling neat freak (no offense to anyone here). Maybe a perfect balance could be achieved!

Have any of you heard of FlyLady? Check her out at www.flylady.net. She makes a lot of sense.

That's exactly how I feel. I need to get a new place to live cuz the roommate I share a bathroom with is disgustingly unhygenic. She never cleans anything & it just makes me want to barf. LOL.

blueGBI 07-19-2003 08:26 PM

I'm a total slob at home, but im a neatnik at work. Since I work around food and I'm afraid of a lawsuit since I'm a poor college student who cannot pay millions of dollars, I make sure EVERYTHING at my station at work is clean. At my room, I'm sloppy. It has gotten me in trouble with my first roommate, so now I'm just sloppy on my side of the room. :)

ToBeSororityGrl 07-19-2003 10:04 PM

I'm a neat freak / organizational freak. I LOVE to rearrange, and make sure everything is setup in my room for optimal space. I'd lie awake when I was little and think my room was so messy and decide how to arrange it, so I'd get up in the middle of the night, rearrange, and think, aw yes much cleaner.

Tom Earp 07-19-2003 10:24 PM

SEMI-SLOB!

Want to be neat, but to much in Treasures!:)

Walls, tables and Cabinents are full and overflowing!:(

MeLikey 07-20-2003 01:47 AM

I'm a bit of a slob... if a strangers came into my room in the house, they'd think I was a slob... but my sisters and friends would know that it's not totally my fault-- I have too much stuff and not enough space! Cleaning my room consists of me stuffing as much stuff as possible under my bed (raised on cinderblocks).

Sound like me!...I know where things are, I just am too lazy to put them away...but after I do I swear that this time it will remain clean...yeh right! that last for about a day or two!

ksig600 07-21-2003 10:29 AM

I am the happy medium...

I love things in order (and usually have things tidy), but when i'm busy I tend to throw things around to clean up later...I can't stand mess for too long

This is how I am too.

I have lots of stuff, but its all organized into rubbermaid containers. All my old video game systems, Babysitters Club books, etc are neatly organized into plastic boxes.

My office is so messy, it drives me crazy. One of the partners has so much junk he can't even sit down in his office - he doesn't have a chair! They seriously need to invest in a mini storage.

SparkliiQTMTSU 07-21-2003 11:33 AM

I'm basically a neat freak. It's pathetic too, I even have to have the cupboards organized. I feel bad for the person who marrys me lol, but of course my bf now is kind of a neat freak too although he has his moments like when Im not there after a fight or something I'll come back and yeah Ive just got to start cleaning lol. but sometimes I get lazy and just say screw it. Of course I can leave it like that lol it just annoys me till I start my scrubdown lol.

Nichole

FiReKraCkEr 07-21-2003 11:35 AM

Um, I am a slob until....

I get pissed off and go into a crazy cleaning spree.

My room in usually a lil messy just because I honestly never have time to clean it, I'm NEVER home anymore.

docetboy 07-21-2003 11:58 AM

I'm a happy medium, leaning towards slob :)
