Are there PNMs from YOUR school are on GC?

As much as I want to post about MTSU recruitment from the other side again this year, I realize there are a few potential new members from my college on GC. I've decided that I won't post about my own experiences until after recruitment is over, for obvious reasons. ;)

Where are the other actives who have seen potential new members posting on GC from the same college? I know there must be some. What colleges do you all go to? When is your recruitment, and are you excited about it? Anything else interesting to tell?

astroAPhi 07-18-2003 04:09 PM

I wish we had some girls from Florida Tech on here. :( I'm a little nervous this year because last year Formal Recruitment went very poorly overall (only 6 girls went through). However, we did a great job COBing so we are at 3 below total right now, so I am excited about going over total for the first time ever (as long as we get 4 New Members of course)! Panhellenic has determined that last year was a weird anomoly because there was no indication it was going to be like that.

I would just like to have some girls on here that I could tell about the Florida Tech Recruitment process.

kateshort 07-18-2003 06:09 PM

I'd be surprised to see someone from Valparaiso, if only because Valpo has under 100 people rushing 7 sororities during formal.

(Not to mention that formal isn't until spring...)

AchtungBaby80 07-18-2003 07:00 PM

I don't think there are any PNMs from my campus on here, which is a shame because I'd kind of like to read about recruitment at a place I'm familiar with.

ZetaMelOU 07-18-2003 07:12 PM

I have seen one girl on here so far who is going through rush at the University of Oklahoma. I'm excited to meet her cause I'm impressed that she took the initiative to get on Greek Chat and learn the ropes a little before rush begins. I hope some more come on too!

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-18-2003 07:54 PM

There are none on here as far as I know which makes me :( b/c I'd really be interested in hearing their POV on my school's rush. Oh well.

AXWhoah 07-18-2003 08:17 PM

There is one UA woman, which is the first that I've seen on here in a couple of years which surprises me cause we always have a ton of girls go through. And I hope she posts all about her experience cause I really want to know what she thinks of it all. And just to let her know PLEASE use the names of the sororities. Honestly if you don't like my chapter I wanna know why, what we did etc....It can only help us. Last year when I was a recruitment counselor we'd read all of the girls little rush journals, and it was so helpful. After a while we'd laugh ant the bad things. We'd be like oh god this one is great, she really HATES my chapter, har har har!

AUDeltaGam 07-18-2003 09:16 PM

I wish there was some PNMs on here from Auburn, but I don't think that there are :(

tunatartare 07-18-2003 09:46 PM

I don't think there are any from Marist here. If there are, PM me if you have any questions and good luck!

ShaunaF01 07-21-2003 01:09 PM

yeah i don't think there are any from plattsburgh either. our greek life interest has gone way down due to circumstances beyond the greek's control. we're hoping what has happened won't hurt us too bad, i guess only time will tell.

congrats astroaphi on being so close to total. what is your total? we have a total of 55 right now but we're looking to having it lowered.

astroAPhi 07-21-2003 02:41 PM

Total is 40 at Florida Tech. There's 2 national sororities, and a new local. The other national looked like they going to be near total, but they had a lot of girls transfer or graduate. :( This doesn't look good for the local who wants to eventually go national.

ToBeSororityGrl 07-21-2003 09:14 PM

I'm rushing at Anniesk's school. She knows I'm going through also

FAUNikki 07-21-2003 09:16 PM

Im not sure who is in charge of this whole greek chat thing, but I have an idea. Well you all know how they have individual forums for each GLO, why not make one for each school. So that people who go to the same school could discuss things as well as PNMs could see what is available at their schools??!? Maybe its just me, but I think that could be a good idea... if schools is too broad, then perhaps by state or whatnot.

chloe173 07-21-2003 10:28 PM

USChica06 will be a PNM at USC this year. I am not taking any special precautions, other than keeping chapter business quiet, which I would have done anyways. Also, she is aware that I will not answer her PM's as even computer contact is considered a rush infraction at my school. Last year, my house was the only one on the row with 0 rush infractions, this year, I would hate to be the one to mess that up!

This has been something I've been questioning but didn't say. Should I bring up tht I've been coming to GC all summer to prepare for rush and sorority life? Would houses (in general) see this as a positive? I don't see why it would be a negative, unless it was bad to be too eager, but I don't know if it's something that should be said at all. Anyone wanna chime in?

I wasn't going to, cuz I had read on another thread that it wasn't such a good idea, but at your request I will do it. I'm super excited to meet you Jill, but I wouldn't want to get you in trouble, so I guess I'll have to wait until after rush. Bummer :(

kddani 07-23-2003 10:46 AM

Please wait until rush is over before you use the names- call them house 1, house 2, etc or A, B, C throughout rush.

Especially since there are people from your school on here. You don't want to say something not totally positive about a house and them read it then cut you because they think you don't like them.

You wouldn't want them to post their opinions on you every day, would you? ;)

I'd just advise to use as much discretion as possible. :) and good luck, i'm excited for you!

texas*princess 07-23-2003 10:51 AM

I definately agree w/ kddani. Or maybe since AXWoah wants to know how her chapter did so her chapter could improve on how they did recruitment you can pm her to let her know which one her chapter was out of the Chapter #'s.

ETA: I personally would think it is awesome if a pnm told me they used any kind of resource to help them prepare for recruitment. It shows they are interested and had the initiative to look up information!

justamom 07-23-2003 04:13 PM

I told my daughter.............
DON'T SAY NUTTIN' TO NOBODY!

I think it's great when the rush stories are being shared. Sometimes the extra support comes in handy. I would HIGHLY advise not to name names or get tooo descriptive where some body might figure out who is who and what is what!!!

ZetaMelOU 07-23-2003 10:00 PM

I agree...for anyone at the University of Oklahoma, remember to keep words cautious when discussing sororities cause some groups are pretty sneaky about stuff. Not as bad as some schools in the deep south, but I've heard some crazy stories.

I wouldn't mention it, especially if you plan on posting your rush story, simply because you could make one of the sorority members curious, she might log onto GC, figure out who you are and start reading all your posts. And if she comes across your rush story, she might be able to figure out which sorority is hers and that could lead to some trouble.

I think that those of us who post on GC on a regular basis, even if we have PNMs going through rush at our school, will generally use this power for good and not evil ;) . . . but I'd be wary of directing others here.

If you want to convey your enthusiasm to them, you could say something like, "I've been asking EVERYBODY I know who is Greek about rush and what to expect . . . I've been excited all summer" but avoid mentioning GC by name.

chloe173 07-24-2003 01:13 AM

I would agree with what has already been said--don't mention Greekchat during rush. I remember that during fall rush last year, there was a girl who rushed at USC with me but was not placed in a house. She had told almost all the houses how she had tried to prepare for rush with GC. She had also posted her thread on GC. When informal came around in the spring, she went through to the three hosues which were participating in informal, but apparently word had gotten around about her story being online.

After reading that she had been cut by all sororities by the second day in fall recruitment, the houses assumed she must not be a quality girl. Problem is, she is actually a very sweet girl, just not your average sorority type. Since you never know who may be reading or who may stumble across in the future, I certainly would say not to advertise that you are on GC.

THe second reason is that recruitment on both sides has always seemed to me like trying as hard as possible to make lots of hardwork and effort appear natural, effortless, and carefree. Saying that you have used internet resources to prepare for rush just doesn't fit into the effortless, carefree categories. Because of all the tips you have learned on GC, I am sure our PNM's will be fabulous. But remember--a good magician never reveals his secrets!;)

Excellent, EXCELLENT point!
I don't know what it is, but there's radar out for girls who come on too strong and seem to WANT sorority life too much. You think it would be the opposite! Yet, time after time you hear about girls who perhaps went a bit to far in their enthusiasm. It's a shame because "youthful exuberance" can be a powerful asset. It's polish that helps one pull in the reins.

mmcat 07-24-2003 08:20 AM

ditto...

good posts. just put all you know in your mental toolbox and use as needed. but you sound like a terrific girl, who should't need too much.

We all love crazy stories! Could you share?

AZpinkkittie 07-24-2003 11:06 AM

Thanks for the advice guys, all your posts made perfect sense!

AEPhiSierra 07-24-2003 10:31 PM

I think it would definitely be a great idea to have threads up by school -- though I doubt anyone from my school would use it.

Well, I won't name names or anything, but I did hear that one group sends some of their girls out to places where the PNM's might be, such as the tanning salon and stuff. The girls in the house will pretend like they too are rushing and all the girls will just sit and talk while waiting their turn to tan. I've heard that PNM's have leaked info that way and gotten cut cause they unknowingly told someone in the house their true feelings about everything. I honestly have no idea if it's true cause it's just talk I've heard from others, but I would not be surprised. Some groups rush really dirty and it's hard to catch them cause they're so sneaky about it.

Oh my goodness! That is crazy! (OK, I still haven't been able to figure out how to paste those smilie faces, but if I had, I would post about five of the purple ones with the big flashing eyes. Just use your imagination.)

Thanks for letting us in on that. What a cautionary tale!

ZetaMelOU 07-25-2003 06:00 PM

Well, I hope it's just a rumor :). I'd like to bust someone doing that cause that is completely wrong.

SigkapAlumWSU 07-25-2003 10:27 PM

I know that there is one woman who is going through rush at Washington State University, and I am super excited because hardly anyone on GC is from or even near Washington (and I swear that I'm the only one that's ever heard of GC sometimes!) I know that rush week is a very busy time, but I do hope that she does post her rush story because I'd love to hear about her experience. I never went through formal rush myself, so I'm always interested to hear people's experience. Whether or not she reveals house names or not, it's still a good thing to hear.

justagirl06 07-26-2003 11:02 PM

SigkapAlumWSU: Yes, I will be posting my rush experiences on here, I'm not sure if I will mention names or not, probably numbers, but I will definitely keep you and the rest of GC up to date!
(PS: I know Ellen the Miss Pullman contestant from your house, we worked together!)

PSUSigKap 07-28-2003 02:06 PM

there are a couple girls going through recruitment at penn state. i know one is posting her thread and i'm not sure about the other. good luck to all the pnm's!!!!

SDTSarah 08-11-2003 09:21 PM

I wish we had some PNMs from Emory here. If there are any lurking, you better come out! :D
