Greek rankings

Stumbled upon a website today... it's a guide for colleges, etc., and in ranks everything (including how hot the girls are)... but it does a pretty long list of greek life rankings, on a letter grade scale. What do you think?

Auburn got an A+ in girls, an A- in guys and a B+ in greek life.

I agree on the greek life grade, but I'd like to know who decides what grades are given in each category!

edited to add: parking as a B+? YEAH RIGHT!!

absolutuscchick 07-16-2003 01:07 PM

Arizona State is not even in this guide!!

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-16-2003 01:15 PM

These are a few of my school's rankings:

Academics B- (Yikes! )

Greek Life A (I can see that, we have a pretty strong system)

Guys A- (Ehh I dunno about that ;) )

Girls A- (Hah, we should get an A+ :p )

Diversity D (Wow, that's bad...I had no idea)

Parking D- (THIS CATEGORY DESERVES AN F!!! We have the worst parking ever!)

Safety and Security A+ (Ok that scares me, if my campus is that safe I'd HATE to know what other places are like....)

Betarulz! 07-16-2003 02:44 PM

Hard to say what constitutes a grade you know. Like why is Nebraska a B in Greek Life?

With the info they give here it just seems like a tough sell. If they explained what went into their rankings then there would be something to discuss.

Munchkin03 07-16-2003 02:44 PM

We got:

A- for academics
A for athletics
B+ for diversity
B+ for girls
B for guys
C+ for parking
B for Greek Life

Perhaps the methodology is discussed in the book--encouraging people who are serious about spending $6 on fluff to get it. Otherwise, it seems like a rip. A fun to read rip, but a rip nevertheless.

My school isn't listed, but that's no surprise b/c we are a smaller, private university.

The_Nash 07-16-2003 03:08 PM

WTF?

as said ASU isnt even listed. How can the number one party school, as ranked by playboy, not even be listed?

OUlioness01 07-16-2003 03:09 PM

Ohio University isn't listed either

KillarneyRose 07-16-2003 03:23 PM

Dani! That's so funny because I discovered that site yesterday while I was trying to find out how to order an official transcript.

B+ girls? I think that's rather low but I agree with the B- men. I think the D+ for parking is waaaaay too high, though.

kddani 07-16-2003 03:27 PM

Tracy-
Some random ranking, don't remember, could've been playboy, about a year ago had us ranked in the top 10 for girls!

You're right about the parking though.

Greek life gets a B, while a school like Auburn gets a B+???? Go figure. We're just slightly below Auburn? haha

lauralaylin 07-16-2003 04:37 PM

URI isn't listed either, which I find strange because they were the #1 party school (although that was like 10 years ago, not a party in site by the time I got there...).

sugar and spice 07-16-2003 04:46 PM

Wisconsin got a B for Greek life, which I'd say is overall about right . . . but I wonder what they're using for criteria. The overall strength and size of the system? What they offer to students? Percentage of Greek students? Greek students in positions of power and influence? Quality of parties :p ?

Also, I found some of the numbers to be EXTREMELY arbitrary. For example, the University of Minnesota got a B+ in diversity while Wisconsin got a D. I've attended both schools and I can tell you that the only difference in diversity is that Wisconsin is actively trying to make their campus more diverse whereas Minnesota is perfectly content to stay 90 percent white. Some other numbers were just as random.

SapphireSphinx9 07-16-2003 04:47 PM

Yeah, none of the Cal. States are listed. WTF is that about? There's some pretty big Cal. State schools (ok, mine isn't one of them) and they're not even listed!

Whatever :p

Indiana University

We got:

Greek Life A
Girls A
Guys A+
Athletics A+
Diversity C-
Parking C (should have been an F! It is 5 kinds of horrible at IU!)

DeltAlum 07-16-2003 04:56 PM

Clearly, they have only "graded" the schools that they publish "guides" for. Hard to take that kind of thing seriously.

ZTAngel 07-16-2003 05:03 PM

I'm surprised that the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida weren't mentioned. Those schools are really big.

Marquette got a D in diversity - and granted there isn't too much on the campus, but hello! Look at where it is located...in a very diverse area.

Platteville wasn't listed, not at all shocked by that. :p

ZetaMelOU 07-17-2003 04:57 AM

Oklahoma got a D in parking! Wow I'm not shocked at all!!!

As far as the Greek program getting a B+, I figured it would be higher than that.

AZpinkkittie 07-17-2003 09:09 AM

ASU might not be on there, but U of A is. We got:

A+ for girls (the comments at the bottom had someone saying there are a bunch of "blonde hair, blue eyed, tan girls" here. "Very Baywatch." Great  )
A- for guys (pretty accurate I'd say)
B+ for Greek Life
D for parking (should be WAY lower)
B for academics (possibly because of our B+ rank for Drug scene?)
C+ for diversity (which I don't understand at all, they've obviously never set foot on campus)

I'd really like to see their criteria for these rankings. I would think that the girls/guys/weather/atmosphere rankings are pretty subjective.

enlightenment06 07-17-2003 01:50 PM

This is a pretty site. I like.

Um, I think we all understand that. Looking at this stuff is just entertaining. For example, I would never have given my school an A for athletics and an A- for athletics, let alone a B in Greek Life.

SparkliiQTMTSU 07-17-2003 07:16 PM

haha My school wasnt mentioned lol figures its not that big YET but we keep getting bigger and bigger every year. its getting harder and harder to get in too!

EXACTLY!

UMgirl 07-18-2003 07:19 PM

In ( ) is what I think we should have gotten.

Academics B+ (A-)
Greek Life B+
Athletics A+
Guys B+
Campus Dining B+
Local Atmosphere B- (B)
Campus Housing C+ (B)
Nightlife B
Campus Strictness A-
Off-Campus Dining B (A)
Computers A
Off-Campus Housing D (F)
Diversity B+
Parking D+ (F...football saturdays are a mess)
Drug Scene C+ (I dont do them, but even I have to day about a B)
Safety and Security C+ (B)
Facilities A (B-... 2 words, Dennison Bldg.)
Transportation B-
Girls A-
Weather D+ (B-/C+...maybe its because I'm from upstate NY and its wayy colder here, and I liked the weather in MI)

AXWhoah 07-18-2003 08:13 PM

AZPinkkittie, I'm gonna have to differ with you here. I think the rankings were pretty fair. I mean damn it we should get an A+ in girls. Seriously, I know so many women who kill themselves to look perfect year round and they do! And a D for parking, ABSOLUTELY! Though with all the new parking garages it's getting better. Oh and the drug scene actually got a B-, not +.
And we got an A+ for athletics. All due to our basketball team (GO CATS!) of course since our football team couldn't beat a Pee Wee Football team. And I just wanted to take the oppertunty to say take that SCUM Devils you aren't even listed! (jk, of course :D )

GPhiSweetiePie 07-18-2003 09:06 PM

Here's how we (Purdue) ranked... ( ) is what I think we should've gotten, if I disagree at all...but most of the rankings are right on.
Academics B+ (eh, could be higher or lower, depends on program)
Greek Life A-
Athletics A
Guys A
Girls B (Come on now! But to be fair, with a heavily Ag/Sci school, I guess I'd expect to see this ranking...from a guy)
Campus Dining B
Local Atmosphere C+ (true. not much else in town but the school)
Campus Housing B+
Nightlife B+
Campus Strictness B- (if you were a liberal arts major you might rank it lower than this...the school definitely tries to screw those kind of majors a lot, unfortunately)
Off-Campus Dining B-
Computers B+
Off-Campus Housing A
Diversity C- (B, not really sure where this is coming from, but then again this is Indiana)
Parking B (whatEV! D, definitely)
Drug Scene B+ (um...not my thing, so ooooook then...)
Safety and Security A
Facilities A
Transportation A-
Weather C (D! The weather blows for most of the year, let's just be honest here)

Interesting site. LOL I like the guy's quote at the end: "West Lafayette is basically just Purdue, so the population is mostly us college kids. You don’t really have to worry about offending older people with music or college stuff because you rarely see people above the age of 23."

I agree.
I noticed that the moment I stepped onto
the campus. There are beautiful people
everywhere. I suppose it's befitting since
it's such a beautiful campus.:)
