Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

Has anyone caught the show?
Bravo: Tuesdays @ 10 pm ET
:D

I wonder if any secure brothers will allow a make over?

CrimsonTide4 07-16-2003 09:17 AM

THIS SHOW IS HILARIOUS!!

Gina1201 07-16-2003 10:40 AM

I loved it, especially Carson!!:D

adduncan 07-16-2003 11:10 AM

I about *died* laughing!
No joke, I want to sign my other half up for it!!

Side note: IMHO, I think the show is more about breaking down barriers and using humor to diffuse what otherwise can be a tense confrontation. Their fashion tips could use some work (a la What Not To Wear either TLC or BBC versions.)

But seriously I love this show.

Adrienne (PNAM-2003)

CrimsonTide4 07-16-2003 11:15 AM

CARSON is DEFINITELY my fave along with the guy who does the homes makeovers.

Steeltrap 07-16-2003 11:18 AM

CTFU!

I only caught the first show because it runs at 10 PM PDT. Butch was a hot mess who needed to be cleaned up. He was improved.

The Fab 5 are all funny as could be. :D

I don't know if any secure brothas would allow themselves to be made over. Good question

CrimsonTide4 07-16-2003 12:45 PM

dayuuuuuuuuuuuuuum gina

there were 2 more episodes that came on yesterday. :(

I also see there is an episode that comes on today 6:00p.m. EST.

encouraged1 07-16-2003 03:58 PM

I haven't watched it but I saw the previews. I think they should have picked at least one gay black guy to be doing makeovers. That would be interesting.............

TV Show 'Queer Eye' Smash Ratings Hit for Bravo
2 hours, 40 minutes ago Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The premiere episode of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," in which five gay men with expertise in fashion, food, grooming, culture and design remake a straight man, set new ratings records for cable channel Bravo, the network said on Wednesday.

Citing data from Nielsen Media Research, Bravo said the show's Tuesday debut at 10 p.m. ET set new records for the NBC-owned network among total viewers, households, audiences aged 18-49, and audiences aged 25-54.

The 18-49 demographic is most favored by advertisers as their core audience, while some networks rely on the 25-54 audience as a more mature target group.

Bravo said the show attracted 1.64 million total viewers, which made it the No. 2 ad-supported cable network during the hour. Bravo had previously ranked No. 38 in that hour for the season to date.

Bravo said the show's ratings were nine times better than last season's average in audiences 25-54 and more than seven times better than its average in calendar year to date.

While the show has generated significant buzz, it also garnered some critical reviews. In Tuesday's Washington Post, leading TV critic Tom Shales questioned whether the show was too patronizing.

"Forced to choose between scorn and condescension, gay people could hardly be blamed for preferring the latter -- and thus might not object to the stereotypes on parade in the series, which each week dispatches five New York gay men to rescue some poor, style-starved straight person at a crossroads in his life," he said in his column.

Bravo is preparing for the July 29 debut of "Boy Meets Boy," ((NOW THIS ONE I HAVE TO SEE)) another gay-themed show, in which a bachelor chooses a prospective match-up from a group of eligible men. The twist, however, is that some of the men are actually straight, leaving the bachelor to try and sort out who's who.

Bravo and NBC are units of General Electric Co. .

I'm sure that it is. Will & Grace is as much same sex comedy as I can do. Now that is a funny show. I'm sure that rednecks being given the salon treatment by Blaine and Bruce can get a few giggles but I'll stick to ESPN for my male bonding.

The one that came on at 6 was the Butch episode. I had to watch it again, just for the Carson factor.

Doggy, YOU my friend, are PURE COMEDY!!!!!!!!

CTHU, CTHU

Sidenote: I did catch the show last night, and I think Bravo has just gotten a new fan. :) :p

AKA2D '91 07-18-2003 12:22 PM

I catch Bravo from time to time. I normally watch it when the actors are interviewed in front of the actors' class. I think it's the Actors' Writing Studio show.

ClassyLady 07-18-2003 08:33 PM

I saw the Butch episode last night. It was hilarious. I absolutely loved Jai, the culture expert. He was just downright fabulous. I need a gay boyfriend like him a la Carrie and Stanford on SATC.

Carson was way too much for me. He was trying a little too hard to shine but he was funny nonetheless. I honestly thought that Butch was going to body slam him before the end of the episode. Carson tried to put his hands down that man's pants way too many times for me.

He's not permanent. Blair was only a guest expert.

CrimsonTide4 07-22-2003 10:31 PM

CTFU -- Carson said he needed a Ritalin Smoothie just to get in dude's closets.

Oh and the bouncing things to do board -- CLASSIC.

I **HEART** Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Hair Down: Jesus, Hair Up: Kirstie Alley.

CT4, maybe our love for the show explains our quiz scores? :p

You beat me to the punch about Blair Boone being the guest culture expert.

Last night. I'm sorry, but I still would have hacked Tom's hair off. Too long. Then again, his GF Lisa isn't all that cute herself, she could use, err, some nose shaping.
:p

I know what you mean about Lisa. She and Carson looked strikingly similar when he had that extra hair on his head.

I did not get to finish watching it last night (phone call) but yeah Carson and Lisa were twinnish.

HIS HOUSE WAS NAAAAAAAAAAASTY!! That refrigerator made me get up and clean my fridge out but it was not even dirty.

exquizit 07-23-2003 11:37 AM

I dunno, for some reason I thought he was kinda cute but his girlfriend made my butt itch. He was trying so hard to impress her and she came off as very demanding (as they said), but she also got on my nerves with the sarcasm and high pitched "Ohh Lisa will you move innnnnnnnnn"

I was dying when they were dogging her when he went to pick her up.

Gina1201 07-23-2003 11:40 AM

Okay the one guy one the show Kyan, how in the world do you pronounce that? Does it rhyme with Ryan? Or is it pronounced Cayanne like the pepper? This bugs me every time I see his name in the beginning.

I think Ryan with an R.

I am finally watching the ep, but taping it in case my BR call comes before it goes off.

Tom's hair -- before and after cut -- HAAAAAATED IT!! I do! I am so not into men with long hair and men with layers -- double ICK!!

Carson is a royal hoot.

Dancerella1908 07-25-2003 01:28 AM

I watched the show and laughed my booty off! Carson is hilarious. My husband sat next to me while I was watching the show. Once he figured out what it was about he said a few choice words about the show then left the room to watch something else. Men I tell yah!:)

AKA2D '91 07-25-2003 12:50 PM

The show went PrimeTime on NBC last night. It was a repeat from Bravo.

I wonder if the show was well received and if NBC will air additional shows.

RedefinedDiva 07-26-2003 06:40 PM

I am currently watching this show for the first time and I LOVE IT!!! This has got to be one of the best shows on TV. I won't ever miss another episode!

ClassyLady 07-26-2003 08:20 PM

The last episode, where Tom Kaden was the straight guy, was hilarious. His girlfriend Lisa was the worst. I laughed out loud when they showed Lisa getting off the train and Carson said "some hooker in Trenton wants her boots back."

All of her "business" was hanging out from under that skirt! They look really cheap. To each his own, but they both were looking a little bit trashy. His house was NASTY before the guys came in. If I was his girlfriend, I wouldn't have even wanted tot kick it with him in that house. I damn sure wouldn't have wanted to use that nasty bathroom! I was CTFU when Carson said, "We should have brought surgical gloves!!" :D I wouldn't have wanted to touch anything either!
