Hi everyone!
 

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm going to be a freshman in the fall at UC Irvine and have always sort of been interested in Greek life, and now especially because my two cousins are Kappa Alpha Thetas at Emory and Duke and they love it! I'm actually a bit frightened by the prospect of rush (kind of an excited fright!) but it seems like an incredible experience, and I've been reading the posts on this forum and you all seem so welcoming and supportive it's already making me feel less apprehensive! Best of luck to all the other freshmen going to through rush in the fall, too. Maybe we can help each other out!

When does recruitment begin?

The recruitment schedule is not online yet (http://www.dos.uci.edu/greeklife/) , but the sororities on campus are:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Phi
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi :)

There is also a Asian American sorority listed with the NPC groups. I do not know if they rush with the others (my guess is no??) but their name is Phi Zeta Tau.

Oh Goodie! UCI! My sister is an Alpha Phi there and one of my best friends, best friend from college is a DG there... (we also have gone to visit the DG chapter there and they are awesome)

Lots of UCI connections here, my co-worker was a DG, my roommate an AXO, old roommate A-Phi...

Maroon5grl, you will have an awesome time at recruitment! I have a few friends at UCI and they love the school, and one of my best friends from high school (although she went to another high school) ended up as a Gamma Phi the same day I did! That was almost 5 years ago now, but we're still extremely close.

UCI is a great college and I used to love wandering around there years ago! I went to high school nearby -- in Huntington Beach -- and I graduated from Southern Cal. I know our Gamma Phi chapter at UCI is awesome and has gorgeous intelligent young women (almost as wonderful as those of us from Southern Cal -- hahaha!) My biological sister is a Theta from Loyola Marymount.

Please keep us posted on your rush -- do you know the dates? Have you gotten any recs yet? What about your wardrobe -- we want ALL the juicy details!!:D

Hey, thats an interesting point you bring up-should I get recs? Lots of people have told me that CA rush is so relaxed and recs aren't really needed, but if I could get some opinions from Californians that would be great. If I do need them, how do I do this and is there enough time for me to do it in the next three weeks? Thanks sooo much!

I think UCI is pretty laid back, but I can't contest to it. A friend in my alum chapter graduated from there a number of years ago. And besides, a rec never hurts.......

In terms of recs, I know Gamma Phi is VERY strong down there in terms of alumnae so getting a rec within 3 weeks should be no big deal. I'm guessing that other GLO's are just as big and would have an easy time as well.

If you need a name for a rec, let me or GPhiBLtColonel know. We can hook you up with any number of Gamma Phi's down there.

Well I'm from Norhern California and around here in the Central Valley you don't need them. We are low key out here. But I don't know the system down at UCI so just don't go competely off me.

But hey if you wanted to get them done and had the opportunity to I say go for it. It won't hurt at all to have.

Any word on when Maroon5grl starts recruitment? I know UCI doesn't start school for a while still, but anyone know when their recruitment starts? I'm dying to hear some west coast rush stories!

I couldn't find dates for 2003, but I was able to find out that Fall 2002 recruitment began on September 24 (optional events) but orientation was on the 26th of September last year, so likely it'll be around the same time this year.

If we don't hear for sure soon, I'll call my friend who is an alum from UCI- she should know for sure and if not, she can find out. Maroon5grl- where are you?! :D

UCI Recruitment starts on September 20th.

No way!!! Are you sure it starts the 20th, because that's the day we move in! I mean, it's already going to be quite the hectic day for all the freshmen...I thought it started the Saturday after/of welcome week. I know during welcome week there are sorority information sessions...

I just got my housing info a couple of days ago and I'm SO happy because I got my first choice dorms. I still haven't talked to my roommate yet because we've been playing an unfortunate game of phone tag (I called her, she wasn't home...she called me back, i wasn't home!) but I'm really excited to talk to her. I hope she's nice. All I really want is a nice, respectful, and semi-normal roommate. Which I'm sure she is, most people are. I move in TWO WEEKS!!! I am SO excited!!!!!!!!!

Okay I just looked at the calendar online and it said Panhellenic rush is from the 26th (Friday) till the 29th (Monday) which is great because I don't have classes until Tuesday.

Wow...that means, three weeks from now, I might have a bunch of new sisters!

What an incredible thought!!

By the way, I'd love to get recs if they'd help me out, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing it. Where would I find people to do them for me? Do they have to know me personally? I have a couple cousins who are in Theta, would they be able to do one for me even if they live across the country?

Hey :) I'm a Theta from EKU's chapter. Your Theta cousins should eb able to still write you a recommendation, but you need to contact them NOW to have them do it and then have them send it to the chapter on your campus ASAP! Also , dont forget to provide them with a picture. Keep in mind teh picture simply lets the sisters better recognize who you are during rush. The more sisters that recognize you, the less likely you'll be forgotten or slip through the cracks so to speak. Good luck with rush!!!!
