I don't know whether the woman is spanish or white (either way another good black man taken by some one of another race) Hey that is just my point of view, I happy he has found somebody he loves. Oh well I hope they are happy together. And get aload of that rock on her finger!!!

I know a lot of people get married at a young age, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I just hope they know each other well enough, are truly committed to the relationship, and know what marriage is all about. Too many people don't take their vows seriously. Every time I hear that Jagged Edge song "Let's Get Married" (or whatever it's called), where they say "we're not getting any younger/we might as well do it...." I think that's not a good enough reason.

Anyway, let me get off my soapbox. I wish them the best.

I was watching a Laker game last week when they announced it. The commentator said that Coach Phil Jackson said something to Kobe about being too young to get married. Kobe told him he does everything young. The girl is pretty much set. Hope they truly love and care for each other.

AKA2D '91 05-25-2000 04:50 PM

Ya Know! He would have done better by getting Brandy. She is young and she already is SET! She has her OWN! But I guess, that is too much like right! Good luck, Kobe!

songstress21 05-25-2000 04:53 PM

High school??? You've got to be kidding me. Even if she was black I'd still be skeptical because of the age. I wonder what his mothers and sisters think?????? He should have stuck with Brandy. Or is she too "strong" of a black woman? My lawd.......

deja 05-26-2000 06:20 PM

High School?

Good NESSSSS! Let me know how this thing turn out. What make other than black so attractive to black men with money? Oh, I feel some negative coming to surface. I will stop right here.

Much Love & CONCERN to them both!

LadyAKA 06-05-2000 02:51 PM

On HOT97 (97.1) in New York, the morning show was talking about how he now fits in with "most" of the other ballers that have white women on their arm. Now don't get me wrong I aint hating - I got my man, I can't run around after no ball players, but I know this hurts some of my sisters (black community as a whole). I really am wondering what his family (namely sisters, aunts, cousins, and his mother think). If they are happy for him, and he and miss thang are happy then so be it. It is not our war to fight!

AKA2D '91 07-06-2000 10:57 PM

Guess what "They" are saying. Well, I got this from another forum...Kobe's fiancee is pregnant...like 3 months and her parents allegedly told Kobe to marry her without a pre-nuptial or else they would charge him with statutory rape, because they had had relations before she turned 18. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif Now that is some stuff! If it's true!

LadyAKA 07-07-2000 09:51 AM

I am not a hater, but if it is true, all I can say is that's good for his 'Bad Decision Making Fast Ass'!

AKA2D '91 07-07-2000 10:41 AM

Then, he supposedly had a girlfriend back from where he is from and she did not know anything about his fiance until she found out about it, like we all found out about it, on the NEWS. This girl and Kobe and his family were supposedly so close. The report from that other forum showed pictures of that girl and Kobe together. This sister is really devastated, heck I would be too! If it all is true...Kobe has nothing but bad luck, rather STORMS that he is going to have to face...cause "Vengance is mine...", saith the Lord!

SkeeBunny 07-07-2000 01:07 PM

I too received that email with the pictures of Kobe and the girl he supposedly left behind (if anyone wants a copy, let me know). And I also heard on the radio this morning about the current girlfriend allegedly being pregnant. For Kobe's sake, I hope that this is not true. If it is, he has to step up to the plate and handle his responsibilities. I wonder if Kobe wasn't who he is and didn't have the money that he has, would we be against this allegedly forced marriage. If he got her pregnant, I think he should marry her. Regardless of his fame and fortune, he is a man, and we are always challenging black men to take care of their responsibilities. If I was a parent and my 18 year old daughter was pregnant, I would expect nothing less (minus the innuendo of extortion).

i think that the version of girl being pregnant & her family threatening to sue is true. if you think about it kobe is rich and young why would he want to give all that up. the speech about vanessa adding balance to his life did not sit well with me. i mean really, she just turned 18 what does she know about anything? both families are probably trying to keep it on the dl.

LovelyLady 07-10-2000 02:04 PM

i'm going to ruffle some feathers here but i want to give my .08 worth on this one.........

i could care less whether his fiance is black, white, purple or green. what does concern me is their age. if i was his mother or sister i would be concerned that he is getting married too young added to the responsiblity of being in the public eye and having so much money. if she is pregnant that is NOT a good enough reason to get married if they are not ready for marriage.

if he is ONLY with her because of her ethnicity then that is HIS issue that he will have to deal w/ at some point in his life. but i don't feel the least bit hurt or disrespected by the color of his fiance's skin. he is no way hurting me or the black community, but HIMSELF, if in fact that is his sole attraction to her! and that's a BIG assumption for US(who are we?) to make!

AKAtude 07-10-2000 02:41 PM

No feathers ruffled here. As a matter of fact, if you read my first post (also the first post when the thread began), I was concerned about the same thing- their age. I think they are simply too young. I think they need time to mature and experience life a bit first. Fame and fortune will not sustain a marriage.

AKA2D '91 07-10-2000 04:01 PM

Not only do they need time to mature and experience life. They need to establish themselves in a SERIOUS relationship/courtship, where they get to KNOW each other. But first, they do need to get to KNOW themselves individually.

Exactly......who really KNOWS THEMSELF at 18?!?!? if i was the parent i would strongly encourage them to date a few more YEARS to give themselves time to grow and mature as individuals.

This just in from CNN...

Kobe Bryant charged with felony sexual assault
Friday, July 18, 2003 Posted: 5:11 PM EDT (2111 GMT)

EAGLE, Colorado (CNN) -- Professional basketball star Kobe Bryant was charged with sexual assault Friday afternoon, Eagle County, Colorado, District Attorney Mark Hurlbert announced.

Bryant was charged with one count of sexual assault, a class three felony. If convicted, Bryant could serve four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation, Hurlbert said.

Bryant's attorney, Pamela Mackey, planned to hold a news briefing in Los Angeles, California, after Hurlbert's news conference, her office said. It is not known if Bryant will attend.

A 19-year-old woman alleges she was a victim of sexual misconduct by Bryant on June 30 at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, just west of the Vail ski resort. A hotel employee, the woman filed a police complaint the following day.

No details of the victim's allegations have been made public, and a judge has sealed information in the case.

The 24-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star has told the Los Angeles Times, "I would never do anything like that."

Hotel manager Paul Pastoor said Bryant stayed at the hotel from June 30 to July 2.

Eagle County Sheriff Joseph Hoy issued an arrest warrant, and Bryant -- who is married and the father of a daughter born in January -- returned to Colorado from Los Angeles to surrender on July 4. He was released on $25,000 bond.

Hurlbert, who was consulted on the decision to issue an arrest warrant but reportedly disagreed on the timing, has three options: to file a formal charge against Bryant, to file no charge or to ask a grand jury to conduct an inquiry.

He has held back on any announcement while completing an investigation and awaiting test results from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

A hearing was held Thursday on a newspaper request to release police dispatch records of two calls to the victim's home in the past year responding to noncriminal actions. The hearing lasted about 90 minutes, but no decision is expected from the judge before July 25.

The alleged victim is a former high school cheerleader who friends describe as honest and ambitious, even auditioning for American Idol last year.

Eagle County, Colorado, District Attorney Mark Hurlbert
Micah Bernhardt, is one of her friends.

"She was real good on select choir, sang in graduation, she sang in a lot of football games, a lot of basketball games, doing the national anthems," Bernhardt said.

If charges are filed, Bryant's next court date would be August 6, Hurlbert has indicated.

Bryant's image as a role model has fueled his popularity with fans, and fellow players have rallied to his defense.

The 6-foot-6 guard was a member of the Lakers team that won three-straight NBA championships in the 2000-2002 seasons. He was named most valuable player in the NBA All-Star game in the 2002 season.

Bryant turned pro out of high school seven years ago. He was a first-round draft pick by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996 and later that year was traded to the Lakers, where he has played ever since.

encouraged1 07-18-2003 05:40 PM

Wow! I don't know what to think. I didn't really think they were going to charge him until a couple people in the media started to speculate that they don't just call a press conference for nothing. I hope it doesn't turn out like the O.J. trial.

nachural 07-19-2003 01:23 PM

GUILTY GUILTY GULITY

EAGLE, Colo. (July 19) - The sexual assault charge brought against Kobe Bryant and his admission that he ''made the mistake of adultery'' threaten to spoil his reputation as one of the NBA's classiest role models and cast a cloud over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bryant appeared at a Los Angeles news conference holding hands with wife Vanessa on Friday and said he was innocent of the criminal charge and insisted the act was consensual.

''I sit here in front of you guys, furious at myself, disgusted at myself for making the mistake of adultery,'' he said.

Bryant, 24, was charged Friday with a single count of felony sexual assault against a 19-year-old woman at an exclusive spa where he was staying when he came to Colorado for knee surgery. If convicted, he faces four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation, and a fine of up to $750,000.

Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert filed the charge after spending two weeks reviewing evidence and consulting with other prosecutors, and said he ''can prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt.''

''Given the seriousness of the crime, and given the type of crime, it's something the prosecutor does not get into lightly,'' Hurlbert said Saturday on NBC's ''Weekend Today'' show.

''It certainly is a possibility that he could go to prison on this,'' Hurlbert told ESPN, also in a Saturday morning interview. He said there had been no talk of a plea bargain, and he didn't know if the victim had been offered a settlement of a potential lawsuit.

Bryant's lawyer, Pamela Mackey, said he will plead innocent.

Even if he is ultimately cleared, the criminal charge and admission of infidelity will almost certainly change the public perception of Bryant.

His squeaky-clean image made him one of the NBA's most recognizable and marketable stars. He recently signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Nike and has endorsement deals with Sprite, McDonald's and Spalding.

A poll last fall by Burns Sports & Celebrities Inc. rated him the third-best product endorser in sports, behind Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.

Bryant could lose millions of dollars in endorsements.

''The image was of a perfect role model, a superstar athlete who didn't have a parking ticket, the all-American boy and now, well, that image is tarnished,'' said Bob Williams, chief executive of Burns Sports. ''As of today and until the trial, his image is going to take a beating.''

Nike spokesman Nigel Powell said Friday, ''Kobe has stated that he is innocent of the charges today. You will understand that this is a legal matter and we cannot comment further at this time.''

Bryant's team could feel the sting as well.

The Lakers became the favorites to win the NBA championship next season after signing point guard Gary Payton and power forward Karl Malone.

Malone said he doesn't expect Bryant's troubles to be a distraction. But the case is bound to take an emotional toll on Bryant, and a conviction would mean the Lakers would lose one of the league's best players in the prime of his career.

''Naturally, we're disappointed with today's announcement,'' Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. ''While there are many questions concerning this issue, we will wait for time and the judicial process to answer them.''

Bryant said Friday he was thinking more of his family than his career.

''I have a lot at stake, and it has nothing to do with the game of basketball and it has nothing to do with endorsements,'' said Bryant, who fought back tears several times during the news conference.

''It has to do with my family and being falsely accused. And, I'm innocent. We're going to fight this all the way to the end.''

Mackey criticized the decision to file charges, saying the evidence wasn't strong enough to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.

''The evidence in this case falls far, far short of that standing. The accusations in this case cannot be proven because they are false,'' she said.

Legal experts said that prosecutors have a tough task because the case appears to hinge mainly on Bryant's word against that of the alleged victim.

''He said, she said'' cases can be the toughest for prosecutors, said Steve Cron, a longtime sports criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles.

''How do they prove it's not consensual? It's hard to prove (with) two adults in a room having sex that the sex was not consensual.

''Do you have witnesses or physical evidence? Was she bruised, scratched, injured in some fashion?''

The alleged assault occurred June 30 at the gated Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in nearby Edwards, where the woman worked at the front desk.

Bryant returned to California after undergoing unspecified medical tests in Colorado on July 2 at the request of investigators. He returned to Eagle on July 4, surrendered to authorities and was released an hour later after posting $25,000 bond.

Bryant is scheduled to return to Eagle for a hearing on Aug. 6.

Bryant tearfully addressed his wife at the news conference.

''You're a blessing, you're a piece of my heart, the air I breathe, and you're the strongest person I know and I'm so sorry for having to put you through this, putting my family through this,'' Bryant said, pausing several times as he spoke.

Vanessa Bryant, who gave birth to the couple's first child in January, did not speak at the news conference. In a statement released earlier, she said her husband was not a criminal.

''He is a loving and kind husband and father,'' she said. ''I believe in his innocence. Because I know him to be innocent, I will stand by him and we will face this together.''

Some fans weren't convinced.

Patricia Brewer, who was at the Staples Center for her daughter's basketball game, was shocked at the news.

''I love him so much and I'll still keep an open mind and hope that this is all a mistake,'' Brewer said. ''But you know, if it's true, then he's just another man masquerading as a family man, fooling us all, and that just makes your heart sink.''

I just want to comment on the Kobe Bryant thing.....for all of you people that are going, you can't believe this...I can. I put nothing past any of these athletes, regardless of how they try act as if their image is really squeaky clean. There was an article in my local sunday paper about this. An 11th grade student was interviewed and I agree with the columnist that stated he hit the nail on the head. He basically said that the media and fans didn't believe Kobe could do something like this because of that "squeaky" clean image he wants to portray. The student compared this mess with Kobe to the mess that went on last summer with A.I. Basically when the story came out that A.I. went out looking for his wife after supposedly throwing her out 'naked' after an argument, he went and threatened folks and what not. Now why was the media so quick to believe this about A.I., but slow on believing that Kobe could do something like this.

In the beginning Kobe was saying that he did nothing at all, now he is saying that he did have sex with the girl, BUT it was consensual. A guy called into the radio station this morning and made a very interesting comment. What he said is that he thinks Kobe fessed up because there would be DNA evidence because ole boy went 'bareback' and this would case him to get caught. All I can say is, when it was reported that he has possible committed some type of sexual crime, I believed it. Now I have no idea if it was rape or not, but I believed that Kobe did something.

Good post. I believe that the media was quick to go after Allen Iverson because A.I. does have the gangsta/thug life image, and Kobe doesn't. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Laker fan. I also don't know if it is rape.

Kobe...what a disappointment.

Can the fact that he was not faithful be enough?!?
For someone to make a big deal about his marriage and how he was such a good guy... the fact that he committed adultery is enough for me to lose respect for him.
Weren’t his parents against his marriage due to his age? If so ... he just proved them right. He wasn't ready.

Conskeeted7 07-22-2003 10:57 AM

I'm disappointed too

I am disappointed at the fact that he was so easy and quick to say that he committed adultery, like it is no big deal. He says that is his only guilt like he is saying that he is addicted to chocolate. Adultery is serious and shouldn't be trivialized in that manner.

PERFECTLY SAID!!!!

Chile Please!

My boyfriend got to watch the full press conference and told me that he had the nerve to say that " He is human and He is a Man"
When did that become an acceptable excuse?!? So because he has somethings i don't and missing others it makes it cool to dibble and dabble in somebody's else sugar dish (my G-ma's saying). Ummmmmm? NO! Try again.

All in all i hope the only stupid thing he did was cheat... i hope he was smart enough not to try to take the poon by force (B-friend's saying)

Now this was this was just reported this morning...see that fool did have sex with that chick 'bareback'....dumbazz!!

"Kobe's 19 year old accuser broke her silence today and gave
the press additional explicit details of her encounter with NBA star
Kobe Bryant.

She said that Bryant forced her to perform oral sex on him and
he later did the same to her. The victim also said that the sex was
unprotected. Semen samples that match those of Bryant were sent to the
Colorado Bureau of Investigations and later determined to be those of Mr.
Bryant.

In other events, one of her closest friends of the accuser reportedly
told "Celebrity Justice" that they were appalled to see Bryant's
tearful news conference. The friend relayed that the alleged victim does
not want any money from Bryant, but rather she wants him to go to jail."
