Schools in Film

Didn't see this thread around so I'd thought that I would start it.

Has your school appeared in Film? Which ones?

University of Toronto:

The Skulls
PCU
The Cube
Good Will Hunting
The X Men
The Hurricane
Urban Legends
a whole whack of Canadian TV movies

thats all I can remember right now.... there are about 3 others being filmed on campus right now.... we'll see which ones aren't straight to video though :)

Betarulz! 07-09-2003 01:50 PM

The University of Nebraska was in About Schmidt, although they called it KU in the movie. Jack Nicholson's fraternity house was actually Tri-Delt here at UNL. I'm not sure where they filmed the inside scenes though.

That's the only movie I know of that was on our campus.

enlightenment06 07-09-2003 02:34 PM

GW is in Arlington Road

Munchkin03 07-09-2003 02:40 PM

University of Florida is in "Parenthood."

PandaOnProzac 07-09-2003 02:44 PM

UC Irvine is in one of the Planet of the Apes movies.

The_Nash 07-09-2003 02:45 PM

Pornos

Do Pornos count? because if so then Shanes World Campus Scavenger hunt was filmed at ASU. I dont think ASU has been in any movies, but Road Rules Campus Crawl was filmed at ASU for one of their events

aabby757 07-09-2003 02:49 PM

Which scenes of Parenthood were filmed at the University of Florida?

University of Maryland was used in Saint Elmo's Fire. A few others but I can't remember.

Munchkin03 07-09-2003 03:05 PM

Steve Martin's dream sequence when his son was in a shooting rampage. UF is listed in the closing credits, and both my sister and uncle, UF students at the time the movie was shot, knew people and places in the scene.

bcdphie 07-09-2003 03:23 PM

off the top of my head UBC can be seen in the X-Files (when it shot in Vancouver), Josie and the Pussycats, Anti Trust (I met Ryan Phillipe on campus while he was filming) and I'm sure there have been a tonne of other tv shows and films, both Canadian and American - but I can't think of any right now.

They're always filimg there though - because I would often have to change my route to class because the film crews were always in the way...

UGAGal 07-09-2003 03:23 PM

Road Trip was partly filmed at the University of Georgia. Mostly the orientation/tour scenes. In one part you can see the G in the stadium.

And an early 70's movie called The Midnight Man was filmed at Clemson University in SC.

UBC was also in "The Accused" and "The Fifth Day" (I think...Vancouver was for sure)

He Got Game was partially filmed at Elon University. At one point he looks around and goes "This ain't the projects, they got green grass here!" that's kind of a joke around campus because the landscaping is immaculate.

Senusret I 07-09-2003 03:46 PM

The Exorcist was largely shot on Georgetown's campus.

lionlove 07-09-2003 03:55 PM

An HBO documentary on hazing was shot on my campus

Kristin AGD 07-09-2003 03:57 PM

The movie "Necessary Roughness" was filmed at the University of North Texas when I was there. Starring Kathy Ireland, Scott Bakula, Hector Elizondo, Robert Loggia, Sinbad, Rob Schneider & Jason Bateman.

University of Chicago:

•The University of Chicago Hospitals’ helicopter appears each week—don’t blink or you’ll miss it—during the opening sequence of the popular television drama ER. Sometimes, the maroon-and-white helicopter is even part of the plot!

•Harrison Ford ran through the Hospitals’ corridors in scenes from the 1993 thriller The Fugitive, based on the Sam Shepherd murder case and filmed in Chicago.

•In one of his most famous roles—as Indiana Jones in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark—Ford, says the film’s script, studied at Chicago under Professor Abner Ravenwood (perhaps modeled after the Oriental Institute’s James Henry Breasted). I think a lot of the U of C scenes were actually filmed at Duke which is pretty funny.

•The Gleacher Center played itself for a few brief seconds of fame when John Travolta’s wayward angel visited Chicago in 1996’s Michael.

•Hull Gate “starred” when Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan drove through it to begin their romance in When Harry Met Sally (1989).

•Chicago lent its campus—and Professor Nicholas Rudall—to the 1996 Keanu Reeves/Morgan Freeman flick Chain Reaction, directed by Andy Davis. Chain Reaction starred Reeves as Eddie Kasalivich, a U of C machinist who stumbles onto an international plot to foil a scientist’s plan to give the world clean, limitless energy. Filmed partly in Mandel Hall and on the quads, it included several hundred student extras—few of whom were visible in the final cut.

•U of C merchandise gets its screen time, too. Kimmy, the bride played by Cameron Diaz in 1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, was a student in the College, which she proved by wearing a Chicago sweatshirt. (U of C alums know the secret reason why Kimmy couldn’t hold a tune in a nightclub scene—there’s no karaoke at Jimmy’s.) Chicago paraphernalia was seen briefly on the TV dramas Northern Exposure (Janine Turner’s Maggie O’Connell character was an alum), Sisters (Frankie was a U of C MBA), and Early Edition. What, no comedies?

"Warning: Parental Advisory" had some scenes filmed at the University of Houston and several other Houston locations.

Lady Pi Phi 07-09-2003 05:44 PM

This isn't at my university, but my highschool, Humberside Collegiate was used in an episode of Kung Fu: The Ledgend Continues (tv series), and the highschool down the street from Humberside, Western Technical and Commercial School was used in the Film Billy Madison.

To my knowledge, UH-Manoa has never been in a full-length movie, but a few scenes of the Real World Hawaii included my campus. In fact, a bunch of scenes had our Alpha Gamma Delta letters in the background at the Campus Center. Ruthie and Teck were having a discussion and they got a really nice close up shot of AGD.

Was it on your campus that they got in trouble for riding those little scooters through the campus? ;)

Haha. Yeah. The Campus Security guy who busted them is actually one of my good friends!

amycat412 07-09-2003 06:45 PM

Univ of So Cal has been in soooo many films--

Legally Blonde--all the Harvard shots are USC
The Graduate-- Berkeley shots are USC

So many more, don't have time to research it, maybe some other Trojan can... :)

ADPiSAI 07-09-2003 09:16 PM

Lost & Delerious was filmed at my school, Bishop's University.

it wasn't exactly the best movie I've ever seen (ok, I thought it just plain sucked), but it was really cool to recognize everything!!

SoCalGirl 07-09-2003 09:27 PM

Got you ALL beat

UCSD Geisel Library is the mother ship in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes starring George Clooney!

It can also be seen in the opening scenes of "Simon & Simon". Short lived tv series "Push" was shot on campus. I'm not sure if there's anything else.

Does anyone know where "10 Things I Hate About You" was shot? I love those buildings.

According to www.imdb.com it was filmed at Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington.

SniffDNZ098 07-09-2003 09:55 PM

Boys and Girls (Science Library)
Slackers (Pyshics Building - Yes it is as steep as it looks)
Going Greek (IND Film, but closely like Old School) all over UCR

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-09-2003 11:09 PM

Man I guess Missouri just isn't that exciting! I can't think of anything that has been filmed on our campus, but we still have a gorgeous campus nonetheless. ;)

krystle 07-09-2003 11:21 PM

Not my college, but my high school, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School was in a little bit of "Summer Catch"...

Mmmm..Gotta love those Cape League baseball players ;D

Yep, the school scenes were filmed at Stadium High School. The school is up high on a bluff overlooking Commencement Bay and is beautiful! It was originally intended to be a luxury hotel built by a railroad company. The scenes of their house in the movie were filmed on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle.

You can take a virtual tour on the school's Web site under "Campus Guide."

IHeartAXO 07-10-2003 01:32 AM

I swear, there is ALWAYS something being filmed at USC! I guess it pays to live in LA.

I've seen Legally Blonde 2, a TRUTH smoking commercial, a NESTLE commercial with Shaq, Roswell, The Education of Max Bickford, a Nancy Drew TV movie and a few more things being filmed in the two years I've been there.

The movie Pumpkin was at USC (and part at my sorority house), Orange County, Road Trip, Kiss The Girls, A League Of Their Own, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Forrest Gump, For Love of the Game, Dead Man on Campus, Copycat, Boys and Girls and probably a bunch more that IMDB didn't list.

As for TV shows, Roswell, Felicity and Saved By The Bell: College Years come to mind.

Basically, anytime you see a "college" campus on film or TV, there's a good chance it was filmed at SC.

"We've Never Been Licked" a movie about an A&M cadet going off to WWII was filmed at A&M, way back around the time of the war.

Lots of the OLD campus and quad are shown. The first weekend after Corps Fish Orientation Week, all the fish are taken to Rudder Theater to watch it.

Also, not A&M, but in the opening credits sequence of "A Few Good Men" the precision rifle drill was performed by the Association of Ex-Fish Drill Team members.

Kitso
KS 361 cool points one of y'all gets if you've heard of "We've Never Been Licked"

White_Chocolate 07-10-2003 10:47 AM

Whose school was in '10 Things I Hate About You'?

That school was the most beautiful school I've ever seen. I would have died if my parents hadn't let me go there.

AOII_LB93 07-10-2003 10:23 PM

Well my H.S. was in the movie American Beauty.

Buffy/90210 were filmed at Torrance HS, one of the rival school.

And a random car commercial was filmed at CSULB...if you see a commercial with a big blue pyramid, that is the BEACH!

Taualumna 12-09-2003 01:38 PM

Let's revive this:

Since someone already mentioned the University of Toronto, let me mention a few movies/tv shows filmed at my high school, BSS (Bishop Strachan School)

I know of the following:

"Soul Food" (the tv version) had a few scened filmed at BSS
the tv movie "JFK: Reckless Youth" also filmed bits at BSS (the chapel, I think) There may be more

At the boys' school next door, UCC (Upper Canada College), I do know that "The Ref" was filmed there, as was "Searching for Bobby Fisher" (a few scenes were filmed at U of T as well)

MareImbrium 12-10-2003 08:39 PM

American Beauty was filmed at my high school.

wrigley 12-10-2003 09:05 PM

That scene from Parenthood, where Steve Martin dreams about his son shooting people from the tower - that tower is the Century Tower, one of the University of Florida's landmarks. The people at whom the kid is shooting were all UF students.

If anyone cares, the rest of Parenthood was filmed in Orlando, around my parent's neighborhood. The family's house is in the College Park neighborhood only 10 minutes away from where I grew up. And the Publix grocery store is *my* Publix. :D That's the scene where the daughter and her boyfriend go to pick up the pictures but end up getting her parents's photos and realize that oops! Dad got the naked ones! That little photo booth was just constructed for the movie - there never was one there. I know most of the the Little League kids - the movie donated money to the College Park Little League and a bunch of the guys I went to middle and high school with are all over that movie.

Also, at the beginning of Just Cause, when Sean Connery is lecturing at "Harvard", he's actually at UF, in the University Memorial Auditorium, which is this beautiful, gothic looking building. Seems like a lot of movies starring Harvard actually use "stunt double" colleges, hmm? The real thing must charge too much!

TigerLilly 12-11-2003 09:04 AM

Not actually at University of Kentucky, but they filmed "Seabiscuit" at a racetrack in the same city (Lexington). A bunch of my friends went and played extras in the racetrack scenes, and you can even recognize some of them in the movie. A PSP brother of mine had an actual part, but it was really small and it got cut and didn't make it into the movie. :(
