Favorite Local Restaurants

One of my fav local places is Wrapworks in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC. They have some of the best wraps I have ever had. They have a variety of wraps but my favorite is "Confuscious". Its grilled chicken, lettuce, rice, water chestnuts, and a few other vegetables with an awesome terryaki sauce in cased by a wheat tortilla. Its the best things ever. So whats your fav local restaurant???

TigerGirl52 07-06-2003 11:53 PM

There's tons of good food around here. My two favorites are Mike Anderson's Seafood Restaurant and Serrano's Salsa Company. YUM YUM YUM!!!

Betarulz! 07-07-2003 12:40 AM

In Kansas City, I'd have to say, Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ (the best BBQ in the nation according to Zagat Survey), and Garrozo's for killer italian food (mmm Chicken Spedini!!!!1).

In Lincoln, it would be Valentino's for the most awesome pizza buffet you've ever seen (their new remodel job for the Grand Italian Buffet has 11 buffets...everything from salads, to pizza, to pasta, to dessert). Also, I would have to include Doozy's as my favorite fast food type place.

bsp-mich24 07-07-2003 12:47 AM

Olive Garden, Rice Bowl, Brookfields, Dennys, TGIF's, KCF, baja Fresh and Chevy's fresh mex----umm Yummy:D

AlphaGamDiva 07-07-2003 12:54 AM

in bowling green i have to say my favorite local place is puerto's....omg soooo good. i'm sure all you good Texans out there would love to argue with me on that, but around the ol' KY way, it's as good as it gets mexican food wise....and it's darn good! :) ilovemyglo can have my back on that, i'm sure.

and nashville has these, too, but a lil semi-fast food place called zaxby's is great as well. all it has is chicken, and it's all greasy and fattening and yuuuummy.

we also have lovely lil diners and stuff that serve all day/night long.....maury's and judy's castle come to mind immediately.

as far as nicer restaurants....agdlynn knows what's up with some mariah's action. :) (and i still have dinner next time we're both in town!!!) :D

The restaurant Texas Land & Cattle, without a doubt, has the absolute BEST of everything in the entire Metroplex & beyond!

I love Mitsu-Ken, it's an okazu-ya, a hole in the wall place that has different food selections every day.

As far as fine dining goes, Angelo Pietro is awesome. Japanese/Italian cuisine is the best! So is their raw potato salad!

tunatartare 07-07-2003 01:26 AM

It's hard to pick the best restaurant in NYC since there are so many but in my opinion, A is one of the best. They have delicious French-Carribean food. It's on Columbus and 106th for all New York ppl. It's a tiny hole in the wall so don't be scared when you see it because trust me it's worth it. :)

PM_Mama00 07-07-2003 03:44 AM

Hmmm OUTBACK!!! Totally obsessed with it and eat there like at least once a week, even tho it gives us the Outback Sickness. Kinda pricey but when you know almost every server in there, it's gets kinda cheap ;) .

Also Mongolian BBQ... in which we also get the Mongo Sickness.

AOIIalum 07-07-2003 07:06 AM

Favorite local restaurant is Columbus Fish Market, with this little local Chinese place a close 2nd. Whoever thought of putting outstanding Chinese food in Nowhereville, OH was brilliant. Favorite chain is TGIFridays. I love Fridays, I could eat there every day and not get bored.

Favorite Louisville restaurant is Lynn's Paradise Cafe. WWCousins and Mike Linning's work too. Oh, and Bristol for Sunday brunch. Used to include Tumbleweed in there, but the last time we were home and went to Mellwood we were very disappointed.

Favorite Disney restaurant is 50's Prime Time Cafe.

That is all :)

mmcat 07-07-2003 08:43 AM

rosco burgers (greasy but terrific)....carlos and mickeys mexican food (been in el paso forever)...forte's mexican elder (again forever here)...capettos italian food...italian kitchen to name a few in ole el paso

DigitalAngel126 07-07-2003 08:44 AM

Nina's.....homestyle Italian in Norwich, NY. I *heart* Nina's.

KSigkid 07-07-2003 09:01 AM

Hmmm..

In Boston there are a few - I love Sunset burgers, Cheesecake Factory, Vinny Testa's, and a couple of restaurants in the North End (Artu, La Familia Giorgio, and Restaurante Fiore are the top three that come to mind).

The breakfast at Zaftig's is the best. Breakfast at Stephanie's and the Ritz is excellent too, but I'm more of a fan of Zaftig's.

I also ate at Ajourd Hui once - the food is unbelievable, but being at the top of the Four Seasons, at this point I can only go if someone takes me and my girlfriend there on them.

Boston really has great food for any budget. and I'll probably think of more awesome restaurants later on.

Everyone here is raving about the new Coach's Bar and Grill, I have yet to have time to go check it out. Lou and Harry's is GREAT! It's a little greasy spoon kind of place with greek food and bugers. I also loved AllAmerican Pita (they closed :() And we can't foget how much I love Cracker Barrel (ha ha)

Eirene_DGP 07-07-2003 09:52 AM

There is a place in Charlotte, NC called Jaipur's and they have the absolute best Indian food.

dzandiloo 07-07-2003 09:57 AM

I have favorites in my current hometown (Lubbock) and my former hometown (Dallas area). We have some great original food joints in Lubbock, TX...my personal favorites are:

1. Orlando's Tex-Italian...fave dish: Green Chili Chicken Linguini (HOTHOTHOT) washed down with a Margatini (combo of amaretto & tequila w/a great big Spanish olive!).

2. Cilantro's Burrito Grill: Burritos as big as your head. Just like Freebird's (in College Station), although the atmosphere is a little different.

3. Stockmen's - steaks that melt in your mouth.

4. Edited to add Abuelo's - we have one of the original 2, before it became a national chain. YUM!

In Dallas (my former home town), we loved those off the beaten path places:

1. El Ranchito - on Jefferson in Oak Cliff...2 words: Flaming Margaritas. Seriously, the set the tequila on fire. Totally cool.

2. Celebration - on Lover's Lane...family style servings-Chicken St. Caroline is the best.

3. La Calle Doce - Mexican Seafood on 12th Street in Oak Cliff

4. Gloria's - Salvadorean food...fried Plantain & Yucca is yummy!

5. Babe's - actually in Roanoke, a little town about an hour west of Dallas, just on the other side of Trophy Club...2 choices only: fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Terrible for you, but oh so yummy.

6. Not food, but fun to wind down at Grape Escape in downtown Ft. Worth...get yourself a flight of any wine you please, and feel good all night! (my favorite's the Port flight!)

enlightenment06 07-07-2003 10:35 AM

In DC they used to have this place called Houston's, but it's gone now. It was my favorite restaurant in the world. Now my current favorite place is Froggy Bottom Pub and Grill.

My favorite local restaurant in Chicago is La Donna. Two words: pumpkin ravioli...sooooooo good.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-07-2003 01:01 PM

Without question, Le Perigord is the best restaurant that I have ever been to in NYC. :)

Primanti's
Mariani's Pleasure Bar
Jimmy Tsang's

AGDPrincess70 07-07-2003 01:58 PM

Good Time Charley's...I think the only one is downtown ann Arbor. They have these pizza/pepperoni twist things that are the ULTIMATE comfort food (hmm...I think I might get some for dinner!)

Backroom Pizza - this little hole in the wall place in Ann Arbor that has the BEST pizza in the entire freaking world

Seva - awesome vegetarian food. Also in Ann Arbor

Raja Rani - awesome Indian food...only if you get the buffet. The stuff straight out of the kitchen can get kinda scary. Oh yeah, it's in Ann Arbor as well

Hmm...can you tell I like Ann Arbor? :p

bcdphie 07-07-2003 02:00 PM

My fave restaurant is the Cannery (it has the best seafood in Vancouver).

I also love The Eatery - it is a funky Sushi-western restaurant in the Varsity district near UBC.

Other restaurants I love:

Kisha Poppo - all you you can eat sushi - they have the freshest Cali rolls

White Spot - a BC classic

The Fish House - in Stanley Park (a fave among tourists)

Dentry's - great little Irish pub/restaurant

and for dessert...

La Casa Gelato - in the heart of Vancouver's little Italy. It is known around the world for it's ice cream. There are 198 flavours to choose from including Wasabi and Pear & Blue Cheese (I kid you not). The most adventurerous I've been is trying the marzipan gelato...

smiley21 07-07-2003 02:10 PM

the loop pizza and grill- yuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmyyyyyyy!!!!

When I lived in New York City, my favorite local spots were John's pizza (on 44th St, between 7th and 8th Avenues), Narita Japanese restaurant, Comfort Diner, Around The Clock, Burritoville, Veniero's (the best cakes in the city), Toraya (the best tea cakes) and Cones (the best homemade ice cream/gelato).

Now that I live in Arizona, I don't have any local favorites, yet (sigh). I do like the Olive Garden, Outback, Starbucks (always did), Red Lobster, Mimi's Cafe (semi-local) and IHOP (for Saturday breakfast).

Ohhh but in Ann Arbor Joe's Crab Shack...I don't like seafood but their steaks are soooo good!

OMG, I used to wait tables at Celebration!! The food is the best ever-I always go there when I go home!

Gloria's is amazing too-their Margaritas were really good!

Rio_Kohitsuji 07-07-2003 05:39 PM

Hmm..probably..

1. Fatboyz Pizza- OMG, their food is the best!! They are super cheap yet all their food comes out in huge portions and is really really good! Favorite meal there is probably their Steak, Bacon and Cheddar Sub, the bread is baked and crispy, it's a freaking orgasm!

2. Lorobi's Pizza- A very greasy-greasy pizza place, but omg, it's awesome. I know the owner so me and TKE209 get free food there all the time. What's not there to love?

My favorite chains are probably Logan's Roadhouse and Applebee's.

COOL! I had my wedding reception at Celebration - it was a small affair...40 of my nearest & dearest in the back room. That place holds a special place in my heart & I'm going to be there on August 2nd (to meet some old friends, and celebrate the end of the Bar exam hell that I'm in right now!!!).

jonsagara 07-07-2003 05:56 PM

I don't have one favorite above all the rest, but there are many that I like:

Steakhouse: F. McLintock's
Japanese: Tsurugi's
Korean: Okhee's
Chinese: Mandarin Gourmet
Moroccon: Oasis
Thai: Thai Palace or Noi's (toss up)
Indian: Taj Palace
Italian: Buona Tavola or Rosa's (toss up)
Hamburgers: Sylvester's
Mexican: There aren't any really good Mexican restaurants down here, but back home is this place called El Charro that is the shiznit.

... to name a few. :)

Hey siobhan, what's the name of that restaurant that was a by-product of Charlie Trotter's....dammnit, i can't remember the name, but it's considered one of the best in the world.

GMUBunny 07-08-2003 12:48 AM

My favorites from home are:

Zero's- best subs anywhere. they started in Va Beach and have become a local virginia chain with one store way out west and one up north. The nearest one to me is 40 minutes away in Fredericksburg :(

El Rodeo- best mexican I've ever had

Franco's- Italian...yumm!

Baker's Crust- excellent gourmet sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Their Crepe Jamaica is the best. Rum-soaked bananas with coconut, chocolate, and whipped cream in a yummy crepe.

As for the metro area:

The Orleans House near the Rosslyn metro station isn't half bad for steak and buffet-type stuff.

Bullfeathers in Old Towne Alexandria is fabulous, too.

Cosi is definitely on the top of my list, too.

DeltaSigStan 07-08-2003 12:55 AM
