Whirlwind,

There certainly seem to be others, from a quick websearch I did. I believe that Theta Nu Xi is [inter]national and you are asking about other [inter]nationals (upcoming or established) so I'll list those.
  • Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Sigma Iota Sigma Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Lambda Tau Omega Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Mu Sigma Upsilon Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Lamba Psi Delta Multicultural Sorority. Link
  • Chi Delta Beta Multicultural Fraternity. Link
  • Psi Sigma Phi Multicultural Fraternity. Link- working?
  • Phi Sigma Chi Multicultural Fraternity. Presently just in NY area. Link
  • Gamma Omega Delta Multicultural Fraternity. Link
There are of course, I believe, numerous local multiculturals out there. A search in any main seach engine on "multicultural sorority" or "multicultural fraternity" should find more.
I hope that helps a little.

Hey, everyone.

I've been observing the multicultural greek's presence on greekchat for a while now. As a new member of Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc., it's amazes me that a little over a year ago I had no idea muliticultural sororities even existed. I think it's wonderful that there are organizations out there truly devoted to promoting multiculturalism. I just wanted to finally introduce myself as a member of Delta Xi Phi since it appears that I'm the first one to register. :)

I guess mine is. People ask all the time what type of sorority I'm in. I usually say academic and philanthrophy but our sorority is really diverse as well even though we're situated on a minority based school.

Takeshi 10-31-2003 10:56 AM

What is the name of your sorority, MareImbrium?

DeltaSigStan 10-31-2003 02:03 PM

My chapter is more diverse (no disrespect) than the multicultural fraternities (but not sororities) on campus, so I'll go head and say we're multicultural, mostly because we do make more of an effort to recruit members of different cultures than the rest of IFC, IMHO.

We were also the first national fraternity to be open to members of any race, religion or color (It's actually up for debate with TKE, but we were one of the first.)

Takeshi 10-31-2003 02:29 PM

DeltaSigStan,

I respect the efforts you're making in recruitment to diversify your chapter. I think its great what your organization is doing. Is your university population fairly diverse? As an organization at the University of Alabama, it's sometimes hard to recruit members who are not either black or white. Most of our international population consist of students who are only visiting the university for a semester or two and may not understand the concept of sororities and fraternities. Do any other multicultural organizations or organizations who are trying to increase ethic diversity in its membership have a problem similar to this?

Well it sounds like you have a diverse chapter, not necessarily a multicultural fraternity. A multicultural fraternity/sorority usually has programming and member education centered around cultural and ethnic awareness.

That's a very good translation. Thanks for that, it clarifies the situation.

My campus is EXTREMELY diverse. Though caucasians still make up a huge majority, there has been a more diverse student body over the last couple decades. We also have one of the best international student programs in the nation. One of my bros is an exchange student from Morroco, and as a member of the International Student Union, he says membership hasn't been this big ever. Plus, the university has made an effort to accept more minorities into SDSU.

Our Greek system shows as well. Just looking at composites from the 1980s and early 90s, I can say all the IFC and PHC houses now have more members of color than ever. Plus, our multicultural greek system has boomed; they were given their own council in 1998 and comprises nearly 15 cultural GLOs. We have had exchanges with several of them (I believe we're the only IFC house to do so), and they're very chill and fun to hang out with.

So, hope this sheds some light about our system here.
