Independence Day

Does your family or GLO have any traditions for the fourth of july?

Is anyone doing anything exciting for the fourth?

moe.ron 06-30-2003 10:17 AM

yeah, working. wooo, look at me jumping with joy.

ilovemyglo 06-30-2003 10:23 AM

My family always goes to our houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake. It is on the border of Tenn and KY. My brothers are coming down (one with his wife) some friends of theirs and his wife and my boyfriend and I! We take the boat out on the lake and tie up with about 6 other boats full of friends and family that have boats down there, too! We have tons of fun! I am so excited. I have to work early and late EVERY day this week but it will be worth it this weekend!

mu_agd 06-30-2003 10:39 AM

i'm going to some girls i know's apartment and then we'll all head to downtown boston and i think eventually to one of the roofdecks at bu to watch the fireworks. should be a good time!

SSS1365 06-30-2003 10:42 AM

I'm going over to the house I used to live in... One of my old roommates (and soon to be sister-in-law) is having a barbecue there. :D

MattUMASSD 06-30-2003 10:43 AM

Some friends from school are coming down so we are going to spend all day on national mall taking part in all the events and then going to the Lincoln Memorial to see the fireworks.

OUlioness01 06-30-2003 10:44 AM

working :(

sigtau305 06-30-2003 10:57 AM

I'm off on that day, so my mom and I will have a quiet 4th of july.

enlightenment06 06-30-2003 11:05 AM

The LUL's in DC always have this big Greek bbq. They're having it again this year.

MattUMASSD 06-30-2003 11:06 AM

what are the luls?

OrigamiTulip 06-30-2003 11:10 AM

Mr. BetaRose is coming up for the weekend. I haven't seen him since Memorial Day, so I'm really excited. This is our last weekend visit before we move into our new apartment :) Its a tradition for us to watch the fireworks, which Gainesville always has on July 3 instead of July 4, but he won't be here in time for that. :(

lifesaver 06-30-2003 11:48 AM

Wanna go tubeing. It'll be about as packed as the damn malls the day after thanksgiving. UGh, but I want to. Saturday Heathers cool-ass coworkers (Remmeber the lady who filled the pinatas with those little liquor bottles you get on the planes?) are throwing a 5th of July Pool Party, so Ima takin by fat ass, love handles and pale skin over there for that. Should be cool.

Ohey Vhey I need sun.

LuaBlanca 06-30-2003 02:20 PM

Big fireworks display @ UMass. Then party @ my cousin's beach house in Onset. It's a good time.

MattUMASSD 06-30-2003 02:22 PM

UMASS rocks...not really lol

LuaBlanca 06-30-2003 10:44 PM

The fireworks rock...UMass does not haha

(I don't mean to get off topic- but the entire campus is made of this really strange ribbed concrete type material...and the walkways outside are mosaic-style cement w/ rocks (FORGET the flip flops you'll fall over) and the stairs are waayyy awkward (they're all too big or too small, the only happy medium leads up to the library...)
...The only thing that makes sense @ UMass Dartmouth is THE RING. Ring Rd/Parking Lot #17 = where us local kids learned to drive

docetboy 06-30-2003 10:45 PM

As of right now, I'm not doing anything for the Fourth, and I can't afford fireworks :(

Rio_Kohitsuji 06-30-2003 11:04 PM

Hmm...my weekend..

July 4th- either going to Kings Island w/the family or going with my girlfriend to the riverfront to watch the fireworks and all.

July 5th- going to boyfriend's house to watch young adult males almost kill themselves w/fireworks.

July 6th- My 20th birthday! ...which will include even more fireworks of a different kind completed w/the red, white, & blue decorations..

TigerGirl52 06-30-2003 11:10 PM

Since Friday is the only day I have off this summer...I'm just gonna relax. Gonna spend it with both sides of my family so that's gonna be fun too!

alphachiohmy 06-30-2003 11:28 PM

my weekend so far looks like

taste of chicago
gin blossoms
cubby bear
cubs/cards game
and the beach

DeltAlum 06-30-2003 11:44 PM

No specific plans yet, but it's our first year at a brand new golf course community -- lots of veterans of various ages.

The kids may all come over to swim and BBQ.

Tom Earp 06-30-2003 11:52 PM

Tom, E C said conversation between you 2.!!!!!! He is a Hoot and damn knowledgeable!!! He is a far cry from when I knew him, well 37 yerars ago!!! Told him to get with you! A Font of Info from all Greeks!!!

Oh, me, am working 1/2 day, nothing else to do! Come home and fix something for dinner!!!

Oh, will be on GC with all of the other poor asses with nothing to do!!:(

Glad those who will be with family can be!!!!!!!

honeychile 07-01-2003 12:09 AM

Corny as it may sound, I always read the Declaration of Independence on the Fourth of July - aloud. Maybe it's becaue I'm into history & genealogy, but I get chills from hearing the words that began the Revolution!

Oh, then Mr. honeychile & I are going to 2 soccer games in Columbus with friends - the Columbus Crew v. the hated Dallas Burn, and US v. Paraguay. Look for me on tv - I'll be the one wearing red! :D

deltaphi94 07-01-2003 02:10 AM

I'm going to my brother-in-law's to be ignored. Could have gone to a friend's house to watch the fireworks, but nooo...

I'm really starting to miss the almost-family-cookouts from when my brother was able to make it in for the holiday.

But, Thursday is my son's birthday, so we're having a party for him which should be fun. :)

lionlove 07-01-2003 10:16 AM

Traditionally my family and I spend the day in Boston for the concert and the fireworks. We get there at around 4 am for the best seats and hang out all day. This year though we might fly out to Montana to visit some family.

GeekyPenguin 07-01-2003 12:58 PM

Going to our summer house to visit with my grandpa - usually more relatives come, but I guess not this year. My grandpa hasn't recovered enough to walk in the parade with the Legion and Lions, so I am going to try and convince him to let me push him in a wheelchair - I know he really enjoys being in the parade.

AchtungBaby80 07-01-2003 04:21 PM

My family usually goes to the big fireworks show in town, which is on the 3rd this year (I'm also going to King's Island again that day). Then on the 4th, I will probably be hanging out by the pool in the daytime and then going to a horse show that night, unless there's a party.

sigmagrrl 07-02-2003 10:56 AM

* Getting my nails done and a pedicure at the day spa

* Checking into airport hotel with my mom

* Going to the mall and doing some last minute shopping

* Maybe seeing if we can see the Mall fireworks from our hotel room window...*silently praying I get a free upgrade*

* Going to sleep early to catch 6am flight to ARUBA!!!!!!!WOOHOO!

texas*princess 07-02-2003 10:59 AM

for the 4th, I'm going with texas*boy to one of his co-worker's house for a BBQ.. I'm going to be the youngest one there!!

"Excuse me, where is the kiddie table?":p ;)

KillarneyRose 07-03-2003 08:23 PM

I'm loading up the kiddies and heading off to a barbeque at the home of one of my sisters, then fireworks afterward. Should be fun; I'm looking forward to it! :)

Peaches-n-Cream 07-04-2003 02:52 PM

My boyfriend and I are going on a cruise to see the Macy's fireworks show tonight.

Tomorrow my mother, sister, and I are going to meet our very distant cousins. They never call my mother unless they want or need something. The only time that I ever saw one of them, we went out to dinner three years ago. We met at a restaurant where he announced that he had 'lost' his wallet. This should be interesting.

My relatives have a family reunion at the end of July annually. I am looking forward to this reunion since some relatives from England will attend. I haven't seen them since 1999. Usually over 60 relatives attend. We are a big Irish Catholic family. :D
