Weird Smells

Is there anyone else out there that likes weird smelling things?

Of course, there's the classic smell of gasoline! What is it about the smell of gasoline fumes? I've loved it since I was a kid!

But I also love the smell of new tires!LOL The garage in my office building smells like that and I love going down there to just smell the air!

I KNOW IT'S STRANGE!

Anyone else relate?

(I thought we could use another kooky topic!)

PiKA2001 06-27-2003 12:12 PM

I like the smell of new plastic

texas*princess 06-27-2003 12:13 PM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new-car-smell :D

however, I can't stand the smell of freshly-cut grass.. that smell makes me want to be ill.

LeslieAGD 06-27-2003 12:16 PM

Rubber cement, gasoline, and new car!

33girl 06-27-2003 12:18 PM

New car
Band Aid sheer strips - the way they used to smell
Bactine
I know this sounds crazy, but I actually like the smell of horse/cow manure. (in its original state - what they spread on the fields is a different story!)

i like the smell of gasoline too, but only if it 's faint...not doused on a house or a person covered in it for example. i love new car smell too...is it true they have airfresheners designed to smell like new car smell? i heard that somewhere.

I'm not sure.. I've never seen any? Maybe in a store that's all about vehicles? That would be so cool! I still have the new car smell in my car even though I've had it for awhile, but I'm scared it will go away !!

KillarneyRose 06-27-2003 12:29 PM

I like the smell of beer.

And new car, of course.

And Baby Magic :)

They do! If you have a Murray's or a Pep Boys in your area they would have it, but I have seen it at Meijers as well.

LuaBlanca 06-27-2003 12:33 PM

Smoke. Not just any smoke, mind you - but, the smoke emitted by steam locomotive that burn coal, not oil.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are riding the Durango and Silverton railroad with my grandparents, who lived in Durango - the smell of the smoke (and the roundhouse, if you are lucky enough to get into)...I guess it's because smell triggers memories.

Most people I know, when the train goes by, try to hold their breath - I fully enjoy it personally.

GeekyPenguin 06-27-2003 01:41 PM

I love the smell of gasoline. Last night I got some on my hands when I was filling up and I was pretty happy about it. :)

In high school I took great pride in the smell of my running shoes - I hated running with socks, so my shoes had a good stench going. I felt accomplished that they smelled so bad.

IHeartAXO 06-27-2003 01:49 PM

Looove the smell of gasoline! My favorite smell is fresh cut grass. Most people hate the smell of grass, but I love it. GAP used to have a perfume that smelled like it. I like the smell of fresh dirt, too. Like, the moist and fresh kind. Yes, I'm strange.

Baby powder, paint, suntan lotion, glue, Soft Scrub, chlorine. Also good ones. Wow, I'm sick. :)

sigmagrrl 06-27-2003 01:50 PM

I forgot one. I love the way a cigarette smells when it is FIRST lit. Not after it gets burning...

BUT, I love cigar smoke!

PM_Mama00 06-27-2003 02:02 PM

Gasoline and matches! Of course NOT together or near each other.

OrigamiTulip 06-27-2003 02:02 PM

I loved smell of Hume Hall. It was a comforting homey smell, and nowhere else I've been has had it. People used to call it Fume Hall, and I'm one of only handful of people who appreciated the smell. Unfortunately, they tore old Hume down in 2000, and the new Hume they built in its place just smells like an ordinary building. :(

GeekyPenguin 06-27-2003 02:05 PM

Cigar Smoke and Chlorine are another two good ones.

Does anyone know if Demeter has a gas scent? I would wear that all the time.

Ooh, I love the smell of chlorine! I also like how leather and new books smell, too.

Rudey 06-27-2003 02:57 PM

Once again, you are all freaks and should get treatment. Half of you are into wippets and sniffing vapors and just say you "like the smell." Yeah you know liquid cement in a paper brown bag brings back memories of childhood.

-Rudey
--Like those freak kids that liked the smell of those old photocopies (the ones that weren't quite black).

Those did smell good. :D

They were ditto sheets, made on a mimeograph machine. You had to crank copies out by hand. I used to do this for the teachers.

Those of us who went to Catholic school in the 70's and 80's should remember being handed those purple toned test papers!! LOL

I love the smell of fresh paper just printed on!! :D

And in the 90s...my school was small. :)

I like the smell of new pairs of shoes - I was in heaven doing display work at Boston Store.

dzsaigirl 06-27-2003 04:14 PM

The smell of a car air conditioner when it first turns on.

Toys R Us plastic smell (like a plastic kiddie pool)

Matches when blown out

The combined smell of gin, hand lotion and cigarette smoke (although I don't smoke and don't like to breathe smoke...smells like my grandmother's house when she smoked)

sigmagrrl 06-27-2003 04:35 PM

I thought of another one...

Does anyone else get their nails done with acrylic powder? I LOVE the smell of the primer that adheres the powder to your nails...

swissmiss04 06-27-2003 04:43 PM

the smell of carbon paper
new vinyl
boiled eggs (how gross is that??)
hardware stores
gasoline

RACooper 06-27-2003 06:59 PM

Let's see:

Cordite (hold-over from army)
Diesel (reminds me of my grandparent's old boat)
Old bar smell (a hundred or more years of booze and smoke)
Hockey rinks (small local ones)
Hockey tape
a newly opened bottle of beer (love the caps too).

Oh dear, I thought I was the only one! In grade school, I'd always volunteer to help Sister Julie in faculty room.

Gasoline's awesome too...so is Windex...Pine Sol...rubber cement...and the smell of rice cooking.

There was a lady in my office who loved the smell of BURNT POPCORN. Blech.

The_Nash 06-28-2003 04:44 AM

Car

I love the smell of an engine, especially in older cars. You can just smell the horsepower. That along with the roar just makes me want to get in teh garage and start turning wrenches
