Video Rental Suggestions II: The Good and The Bad Choices

Last week, I rented "Just Married". I HATED it.

"National Security" was okay.

I'm looking forward to "10 Ways to Lose a Guy" (I think that's the title) and "Kangaroo Jack? :o

enlightenment06 06-27-2003 03:19 AM

I recently rented "Runteldat" and didn't get past the first twenty minutes.

"The Wash" was also horrible. HORRIBLE!!!

Definitely rent "The Recruit"; that was hot.

"Die Another Day" was also hot, although seeing Halle Berry sex Pierce Brosnan made me feel uncomfortable.

"Old School" is hilarious.

AKA2D '91 06-27-2003 12:50 PM

I couldn't think of the other one I had rented. It was Die Another Day. It WAS good!

I may check out Old School after the holiday weekend. I think there will be a sequel to Old School.

My recent rentals:

"The Ring": It was...good, I guess. It was just a little bit wacky at times. I didn't think that it would be what it was.

"Paid in Full": This was better than I expected. The only thing about it that I didn't like was Cam'Ron. He was anoying in the film. I wish that Dame would have played a bigger part because he was hilarious in "State Property."

I bought "Deliver Us From Eva" and it was not as good as I expected. It was good, but there were some annoying parts. I mean, who do you know that is going to reject sex from her HUSBAND to study, only because her sister said so? Some parts were funny, though. And DAMN!! LL is TOO fine!

I was definitely dissapointed with "The Ring". I heard it was supposed to be one of the scariest movies ever, but it really just made no sense. It started off kind of spooky and then steadily got kind of wack.

Hello All!!

It has been a while. I hope all is well.

ANTWONE FISHER IS A MUST SEE!!!!!!

I wish I had seen it in the movie theaters.

Cheers

Met him in person at the airport in Atlanta - we were all trying to find our gate - was with hubby and then 2-year old daughter, but DANG! was he yummy-looking! Even finer in person and up close! And he's a pretty big guy too.

Did I mention that he looked yummy? :D

AKA2D '91 06-27-2003 04:29 PM

Was this in late April? On a Friday? My chapter soror was returning home to Georgia and she called to say she saw him in the airport. She didn't have her camera directly on her, she had packed it in her suitcase.

Needless to say, she was soooo excited. I was excited for her! :D

um, um, um I can't wait until next week.

btb87 06-27-2003 04:34 PM

Sorry Soror 2D, this was several years ago. But how I remember those lips, those broad shoulders. . .

Sorry - I digressed.

I'm glad that I don't really have to rent videos with my $$ b/c on my job, the kids get to rent new videos every 2 weeks. So any PG or PG-13 movie (they can't rent R at all) that I haven't seen, I get to watch. Recently, the kids have been watching videos that I already have at home on DVD.

Once, though, someone rented Inventing the Abbots. It was a pretty good movie. So was Sweet Home Alabama.

About The Ring....Try watching the Japanese version. Atmospherically, the American version is better and more fast paced. Creep-factor wise, though, the Japanese version wins, hands down. The scene where she crawls out the screen...*shudders* Good lord, the Japanese are brilliant. (Now, f they could just learn how to make good endings to movies I can die happy.)

N.A.R.C was not as bad as I'd heard it was. But it wasn't anything to run out for either.

Just Married was cute. I don't need to see it again though.

Deliver us from Eva was better than I expected because I thought it'd be awful. It was decent, although highly unrealistic for Black women, in my opinion.

Oh LAWD The Ring! I am a horror movie buff but this movie had me so angry when I left the theater. I sat through the whole thing waiting for the scary part to happen! It was too much going on. Save your money and wait for it to come on HBO!

Conskeeted7 07-03-2003 11:47 AM

I just rented Like Mike with Lil Bow Wow and the movie was not as bad as I expected. Of course it was unrealistic, but still cute and interesting.

The Recruit was a really good movie. Al Pacino is one that you can usually count on though.

movie weekend

So I spent one weekend watching sequals.

Analyize This and Analize That were very funny

K-PAX was a very heart touching story.

(old movie) The Hole 9 Yards very very funny

I heard on Tom Joyner that a movie called "Basic" with Sam Jackson and John Travolta is a good movie. It's scheduled to be released on Tuesday on video. Has anyone heard of this movie?

I'm hosting a movie night at my place in a couple of weeks, so I guess I 'll add this to my list.

Basic was pretty good...lots of twists and turns.

I liked The Recruit also.

The Recruit was good.

I also rented The Feast of All Saints. That was really good. I love Black movies that give insight to our history.

Am I invited? J/K! :D I want to see Basi also. I'm still trying to get Antoine Fisher. I am just going to have to break down and buy it.

LawyerGal2003 07-05-2003 11:09 PM

Took some advice frOM you guys!

I took a break from the books this evening and rented a few movies....

1) Deliver Us from Eva! Why oh why do I know Robinne Lee!!! I went to school w/ her sister! I re: when she went off to Yale (she's a bit older than me) How this passed me on the Alumni updates I have no idea! Her last flick was Hav Plenty which I just hateeddddd. This was cute she looks like she did 10 years ago (lucky her..lol) And what can you say about LL... But Dayummmmmmmmm A/w I agree there were parts that were not so good. Seemed a bit forced I think but all in all it was cute!

2) I also got Biker Boyz.... hummm I think it made me want to try and ride a motorcycle..lol.. The lil girl from Eve's Bayou done grown up and out! It was ok that's a sub culture I just don't know so i am sure others may find it to be great.

3) I also got National Security and I am off to go see it now! Hey Blockbuster had a 3 for $9.99 special :p

LawyerGal2003 07-06-2003 12:52 PM

Ok couldn't get them all in last night so I watched Nat'l Sec. this morning...it was an ok laugh andddd Robinne was in that TOO!! DANG! I really must have been under a rock for the past 3 years!!! A/w I am so happy and proud of her I knew she always had the acting/modeling bug but geesh! :)

So proud on my fellow Westchester(NY)/Jamerican Chick!!!:D

Check out Auto Focus with Greg Kinnear and Willem Dafoe. It is a true story about TV star Bob Crane. Really good movie, but not for kids.

ClassyLady 07-06-2003 06:23 PM

I just got The 25th Hour and it was very good. Spike Lee's endings always throw me a little though.

One Hour Photo was boring and slow moving.

Deceiving

A couple weekends ago I rented "The Brotherhood". When I read the case I thought it would be similar to "School Daze"(sp?). Boy was I disappointed. I didn't even watch the movie. When it first came on and the credits were rollin, it looked like Microsoft Word was used to produce the lettering. Then the beginning looked like someone taped a lecture and ending of class. I couldn't watch this movie. It was horrible. I wanted to ask the rental place could I have my money back!!! WARNING: Do not, I repeat do not, rent the movie "The Brotherhood". It's a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
