Summer concerts: who are you seeing?

I went to the Michelle Branch/Dixie Chicks concert last night and am currently all about downloading Dixie Chicks songs on Kazaa. I allllways get that way after a great show! But, last night was fabulous. I was actually impressed with Michelle Branch: she's 19, just put out her second album, writes all of her own music and plays guitar. Plus, she doesn't have a perfectly toned body. I kept thinking, "why isn't she a role model for MORE girls out there? Why Britney Spears?" And of course, the Dixie Chicks just blew the place up. They are great performers, the set was amazing and the playlist was fantastic- all of their best songs (except for You Were Mine) and it was fun that it was in DC. Natalie was like "Washington DC, huh? Hmmmm.... if I'm NOT mistaken, the President of the United States lives here, right?" And she kept mentioning stuff about how they're so hated now. The tour is called "Top Of The World" but after the "incident" they wanted to rename it "The Bottom of the Barrel" tour. :D

I saw Tim McGraw last month in LA and he was incredible. Probably the best concert I've ever been to. I didn't sit down once and Tim was just amazing. And gorgeous, too. Great great show- two and a half hours also! Oh, and Faith made a special surprise appearance on one song! Very cool.

I am seeing Sheryl Crow on Monday and still really want to see the Roc the Mic tour on July 6th: Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Fabolous, Sean Paul and Busta Rhymes. I'm seeing Bon Jovi and Goo Goo Dolls on July 27 and American Idols Live on July 28th with my visiting roommate. And I'm flying to Ohio to visit my best friend in early August and we're seeing Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. I'm excited. :)

So, what concerts are you guys seeing this summer? Have you seen any already? How were they? Who's a great performer and who isn't worth your money? (ie: my mom saw Norah Jones and looooves her, but said the concert was pretty mediocre- you could tell she wasn't used to performing in big venues)

PandaOnProzac 06-26-2003 02:03 PM

I've already gone to see a drum corps show at Cerritos College during the DCI SoCal Tour part 1. July 3rd and 5th is the 2nd SoCal tour which will feature the west coast showing of Phantom Regiment.

GMUBunny 06-26-2003 02:09 PM

I miss drumcorps shows. We used to always go see them over the summer before band camp started. I don't get to go anymore cuz nobody wants to go with me and GMU has no football team (therefore no marching band, either :()

HA HA HA! I remember about 3 or 4 years ago my friend got free tix to see good ole Pat play at pine knob. We were actually gonna go but decided it might not be worth the gas money to drive way out there.

Gina1201 06-26-2003 02:21 PM

My friend and I are driving to Darien Lake on Sunday to see the Roc the Mic concert: 50, Jay-Z, Missy, Fabolous, and Busta Rhymes.

I wanted to see the Justified/Stripped concert but the tickets for the closest concert were $75! :(

BTW: Can anyone PM me on the best way to sneak a camera a concert? Thanks!! ;)

APhiAngel 06-26-2003 02:29 PM

I just went to BFD 2 weeks ago (it was ok) BFD aka Big F***in Day is a concert put on by a station in SF and they have like 17 bands there. I saw the Deftones, and I have been waiting to see them for like 2 years, and the Used were bad ass, not I have ot go to the Warpped Tour when it comes to SF. Also, a few of us are trying to find our way to the DMB concert when they come to the Shoreline in San Jose.

CardinalSM 06-26-2003 02:42 PM

I am going to Red Hot and Boom in Orlando on July 3 to see Stacy Orrico, Lillix, VaughnRay, Stereofuse, and Jessica Simpson. Not all of them are well known more than having one single out, but oh well, free concert!

sigmagrrl 06-26-2003 02:44 PM

I'm seeing Tori Amos @ Merriwether Post Pavilion on 8/27. This is my second time seeing her live in the last year. I adore her :) *sigh*

I was going to go see Radiohead, but changed my mind.

If anyone knows if Sade is touring, tell me!

I wish Alanis would tour w/ Tori again.

Lil' Hannah 06-26-2003 02:47 PM

ok, I can't hide it any longer...

I still like Hootie and the Blowfish. They're coming to Wolftrap and I want to see them really bad. Judge me as you see fit.

I'm going to try to see her in Boston or NYC this summer. I got to see her in November and she is amazing!

midwesterngirl 06-26-2003 02:51 PM

This is going to make me sound old but,I am totally going to see Kiss and Aerosmith if I can and I am also going to see Neil Young.I have seen Kiss and Aerosmith so if I can't get tickets,I can live because they are pricey, but I have never seen Neil Young and I am a huge fan.

That's when I saw her, 11/12 at GMU's Partiot Center....

What did you think of her opening act? I don't know if it was the same as yours. I had Howie Day. There was a group of hearing impaired concert-goers who had an interpreter during the show, signing the words. I watched her sign the words to his song, "Ghost", and I literally wept because I loved watching the emotion in the interpretor's face. I actually felt the emotions behind the words more intensely while watching her....

It was beautiful...I got the CD the next day.

Definately free tix here. My parents always get free tickets from the casino since they're big ballers. You go to the casino and there's a bus that takes you to the concert place. Fun thing-- I might be goin with my cuzin who is like 30-something. Woohoo!

RedFox 06-26-2003 03:02 PM

Being from the DC/MD area....

OAR went to Wootton High School, our rivals hehe, we used to hear them play at the high school cook out things, they won the battle of the bands...there are a bunch of bands from the Maryland area as a matter of fact. Tori Amos went to Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, OAR went to Wootton, all MoCo'ers like me :) Hootie and the Blowfish is from Bethesda and Good Charlotte's from Waldorf...in terms of concerts, We'll see who else comes around, I'm in Knoxville, Tennessee and so far I've seen Third Eye Blind and Daniel Beddingfield, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5 (they opened for John Mayer on last years tour) and I also went to this awesome country music festival @ Neyland stadium in early June...Kenny Chesney, Deana Carter, Rascall Flatts, Brooks and Dunn and Keith Urban played!! (Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker made guest appearances too!!) Hope everyone has an amazing summer of concerts!!

LeslieAGD 06-26-2003 03:02 PM

Everclear was here for Riverbend and I thought they were just OK, I have seen them live a few times and their show was a lackluster.

sigmagrrl 06-26-2003 03:36 PM

Actually it's O.A.R, with the periods and all. Stands for "Of a Revolution" its a band started in 1998 at Ohio State. They're pretty popular with the college crowd.

IHeartAXO 06-26-2003 04:15 PM

RedFox... I love when MoCo-ers make it big! There's a contestant on FAME from MoCo and another guy from MoCo is getting his own WB show in January. Pretty cool!

But yes... Tori, O.A.R, Good Charlotte, Hootie and the Blowfish- all fellow Marylanders. Toni Braxton, too. Remember HER? ;)

shadokat 06-26-2003 05:09 PM

I saw Norah Jones on Friday, and she was fabulous.

cash78mere 06-26-2003 05:47 PM

i'm going to the american idol concert next month.

ok, y'all can stop laughing now

veemers 06-26-2003 06:06 PM

I'm doing all of my concert going when I go home to Milwaukee for July 4th weekend (viva summerfest!!!) and here's my marathon lineup:

July 3: O.A.R.
July 4: DJ set by BT
July 5: Blindside
July 6: Good Charlotte/ Hoobastank and Evanescence

And then later this summer I'm going to see Hootie and the Blowfish at Riverfest here in Beloit. (That's a sure sign Hootie's going down in popularity and fame....when they play at BELOIT, a hokey little small town in WI!)
