Anchors everywhere!
 

So, do y'all get as excited as I do when you find anchors or just the word anchor in unusual places?

For example, I work in high tech marcomm/public relations and one of my clients is a German satellite company. I was working on a brochure today and found that under their military products they have ground satellites called Anchor Stations!

Then I was in a book store and kept noticing all of the books published by Anchor Books!

I was looking at the Web site of the school that a friend's children go to and saw that they have an anchor in their school logo.

Last month when I was in San Francisco, I had to have an Anchor Steam.

And of course I have an Anchor Hocking baking dish! (wow, it has very bad reviews on Amazon! :eek: )

Wow, there are indeed anchors everywhere. We have a naval museum here in town (interesting, given that we are LAND-LOCKED :confused: :eek: ) and yes, there is an anchor out front! :D

My friend told me that Anshors and Sailboats are gonna be really trendy this season (kinda like how there was a polka dot phase)

there's a company that makes liquid measuring cups and i believe drinking glasses as well, and their logo is an anchor and an H interlocked. I always get a little excited when I see it. Lemme go do some research...

I have those dishes! My husband spotted them at Walmart and got them for me! They all have an anchor on them!

i thought it was kinda cool cause you know those glass squarish candy jars with the sorority names on them... they are made by anchor hocking and it was cute .. cause i have a DG one and on the bottom its anchor hocking ;)

[B]All right for those of you who have never posted a picture and need to know how, here are the steps. I would suggest practicing first and previewing your reply before submitting,

1. Find a pic :p
2. Right click on the pic
3. Click on PROPERTIES
4. After clicking on PROPERTIES, look for the ADDRESS (http)
5. Copy and paste said address
6. Come back to GC
7. Open up reply box
8. You can CLICK ON IMG square RIGHT BELOW the TITLE box, under SIZE OR you can type the following but ELIMINATE the SPACES -- [ IMG ] [ /IMG ]

If it works you should see a pic, if not TRY AGAIN. Rome was not built in a day. PRACTICE makes perfect.

BTW: I think that Lilly Pulitzer is protected against this in IE. However, if you have Netscape, you might be able to get the file path through that. I'll be back at work on Wednesday (where I have Netscape) and I can try then.

I also saw some "golf shirts" at ROOTS the other day. They had an anchor on them, but to be honest, they were a bit on the 'fugly' side....

Express Gift Certificates
 

I have a ? for those of you who are still in college. Do yall get gift certificates for Express with the DG crest on them? We used to get these in college and just sorta assumed a DG works with the EO of Express. I was just curious if yall got these or if other sororities get these w/ their crests on them.

I went to the beach for the 4th of July, and there were anchors everywhere! I go so excited when I saw the Anchor Inn, Anchor Storage, etc... It's great to be a DG!!!

I saw a little stuffed animal holding a big anchor in this gas station over the weekend - I was so close to buying it until my non-greek friend looked at me like I was an obssesive idiot.

Speaking of gas stations...

My mom and I were stopped at a red light tonight. She pointed at the gas station on the corner and said "Look, it's a Delta Gamma gas station!" The gas pumps had big anchors painted on them!

I remember when I was pledging I went to Florida for spring break with one of my friends from home and our hotel had a tiki bar next to the pool. They had a big neon Bud Light sign with an anchor on it. I love Bud Light and I love anchors and I wanted to take it soooooo bad but it was nearly impossible since it was huge and in the middle of the hotel courtyard and blah blah blah.

sorry for the intrusion, but i was getting my driver's license renewed today. the guy who was helping me had a naval class ring and on it was an anchor. i started to silently freak out cause i immediately thought of delta gamma!!

Apollo 13
 

I was watching Apollo 13 tonight. During the part where Apollo 13 is orbiting the moon it shows Jim Lovell (played by Tom Hanks) thinking of landing on the moon (of course that mission never made it to the moon was he was daydreaming they did). They show him taking the ladder down the lunar module and they briefly show him in his space suit in its entirety. I noticed there was an anchor on the helmet above where the clear part (used for vision) of the helmet is. Can anyone confirm that there really were anchors on the space suit helmets in the late 60s? I can only assume its there for the hope as opposed to symbolize the navy?! LOL Am I right?

ps. That movie is such a tear-jerker. And they say miracles don't happen...

Yes, those anchors tend to add, uh, "girth" to one's hips.

I know but I just had to post it for comic value. It reminds me of those outfits from rush in the 70s and 80s where they got a little carried away with the nautical themes!

For the Today Throws a Wedding series one of the invitations you can vote on has an anchor on it! And I was watching "View From the Top" (the airplane movie with Mike Myers) and one of the flight attendants was wearing anchor earrings! ;)

My mom has always given my sisters and I little Valentine's Day presents...and this year my mom came up a little early and surprised my twin sister and I with a TON of anchor stuff for V-day! J. Crew pink polos with navy anchors on them....a pair of sandals with anchor tops...super comfy tank tops with anchors on them...and cute Juicy Couture beach towels with GIANT anchors on them. Juicy Couture has several anchor purses--at least 2 or 3, and more accessories. She even gave us sweet little J. Crew silver anchor necklaces.

Looks like anchors will be HUGE this spring--I'm already seeing them everywhere, and it's only February! Time to stock up on anchor gifts :D I swear, I'm not really wearing anchors all the time, even if it sounds like it!

It's not the best picture...but in person the charm is really neat. My mom gave it to me for initiation to put on a gold charm bracelet I have. I have my name, chapter, and initiation date on the [plain] back, which makes it very special to me.

I don't know if you all have been to J.Crew lately, but they have anchor everything! Purses, shoes, belts, dresses, skirts, etc! I went crazy in there the other day and when i was checking out the cashier asked me if I was a DG. I guess it must have been pretty obvious since every item I bought had an anchor on it. lol :)

I hear Gymboree has tons of stuff with anchors right now!

When i went camping a few weeks ago, one of the realtors in the area was called Anchor Realty. When we drove by the sign i got all excited because there was a big golden anchor on the billboard! yeah my mom thought i was crazy...but thats okay!
