ADPi CD

Did you guys see the article in the latest issue of Adelphean??? about the songs CD that one of the chapters put together and is selling??? I think that is totally awesome!!! I'm going to buy one today! :D It'll be a great way to brush up on some songs for recruitment!

violets 06-26-2003 02:57 PM

I haven't received my Adelphean yet...is this article in the summer issue? I can't wait to read about it, I think it's a WONDERFUL idea and a long time in the making. Not every chapter is particularly musical every year, this makes learning the songs (which is such a fun and bonding part of being in ADPi) much much easier.
Which chapter has put the CD together? They deserve accolades for their work!

I just recieved my Adelphean yesterday. When I read the list of songs, I actually started singing outloud some of them. I was like "I remember this song".
Alpha Pi at George Washington University was the chapter who put the cd together. The article says the money from the sale of the cd will go to raising money for a new scholarship within the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. How awesome is that?
One of the songs was recorded by Lambda Chi Alpha "My Alpha Delt Girl", how sweet.
I am so ordering a cd.

ASUADPi, that's pretty neat!
I may order the CD too.. my long-time boyfriend is a LXA! :D And I think it's so great that it will help fund a new ADPi Foundation scholarship!

This is a teensy bit off topic, but how long does it take to get the Adelphean? I was initiated this past April and haven't recieved one yet? I'm not sure.. maybe it's because I just haven't checked my mail recently?

ASUADPi 06-26-2003 04:17 PM

It takes away. I remember when I initiated (March 1998), I don't think I recieved my first Adelphean until the fall issue. If not the winter one. I honestly can't remember 5 years back.
You could always call or email EO, they might know how long it usually takes for new initiates to recieve their Adelpheans.

Oh, I can't WAIT to get mine!!! Is this the issue with the correct addresses for recs?

Somewhere in this house is every Adelphean I've ever received. My heirs will have fun with ebay!

Alpha Pi Chapter is selling them-- they were selling them at Districts and Convention. What a great way to preserve our ADPi songs!

Contact Katie Barrios kbarrios@gwu.edu for more information. The CD's cost $12.50, and as they are a fundraiser for Alpha Pi, we are asked to not burn copies. These CD's make great gifts for Diamond Sisters, Alum Assoc, Initiation/Jewel Degree/25 year gifts, etc.

Great job Alpha Pi!

If you're not getting your Adelphean-- go to www.alphadeltapi.org and enroll at our members-only pages, Pride Online. You can update your address to make sure it is the most current address. Once you register with Pride Online following the the registration prompts, you will be given your member number and you can create a password. Then, click on Update Personal Info. Click on Contact and Address Info. Click submit when complete and it will go to Exec Office Immediately!

You can also fax your address change to Exec Office 404-373-0084

just wondering if anyone would be willing to post the lyrics to "My Alpha Delt Girl". I've never heard it and I tried to do a search online for it but nothing came up. It sounds really cute!

adpiucf 07-19-2003 06:55 PM

There's a website with the words to ADPi songs:

http://www.geocities.com/adpisdsu/songindex.html

Here it is!!

Did any one end up getting this? How is it?

SLUadpi 10-03-2003 12:46 PM

I got the CD. Definately way different than I expected it to be, but I still enjoyed it. It's fun to hear the same songs that our chapter sings too! Kudos to the GWU girls for making this!

honeychile 01-25-2004 08:03 PM

Does anyone have the address, or know if they're still selling the CDs? I had it, as recently as two days ago, but I can't find it!!!

WLFEO 01-26-2004 02:27 PM

I'll look for it...... Is there a place on Pride Online to get the chapter address?

That's just it - I don't think you send the money directly to the Chapter. There's a Chairman, whose name is Tzania or something like that, and I don't think she lives on campus.

I had the address on the computer that crashed in November - along with anything else important!!

ADPiAkron 01-26-2004 02:41 PM

I know where I can get it for you! I think it is on the CD case it self! Let me run out to my car!! brb

OK I DO NOT HAVE THE ADDRESS, BUT THE SISTERS NAME IS TZENA MAYERSAK. I AM SURE THAT GWUs WEBSITE HAS THEIR ADDRESS.

Hope this helps!

**Contact Us (GWU Greek Affairs)

Any mail for individual fraternities and sororities can be sent, attention the group of choice, to the above address as well.

I just got an email from Jennifer Loop, the Music Chair at the Alpha Pi Chapter. She said to send $12.50 check made out to the Alpha Pi Chapter to the following address:

Music Chair
Townhouse H: Alpha Delta Pi
607 23rd Street NW
Washington, DC 20052

As soon as you send your check, they will make the cd.

I'm sure either address will work!!!

OH!! I'm trying to locate the music and lyrics to a song I heard at Zeta Chi Chapter pref about 4 years ago. It had a line that said "as the violets still cling to the vine." it was sung in 3 part harmony and was gorgeous! Does anyone know this song? I know it is in the Sing Sister Sing book, but I don't know much more than that. I WANT THAT SONG!!! Please :D

honeychile 01-26-2004 09:33 PM

When I was in school, we were cleaning out our storage locker, and found two ancient albums that two different chapters had made. One was Alpha Psi (I think, unless we have a chapter at UCLA). Anyway, they started out being really corny, and we made fun of them, but by the next time recruitment rolled around, we used at least three of the new songs!

One I'll never forget was "One Black, Two Black, Eyes Like Shoeblack". Has anyone ever heard of that one? (and I'm guessing no!) We do a Twenties theme party, and it was perfect for it.

ASUADPi 01-26-2004 10:58 PM

skerbow, thanks for the info.

I think you may be talking about, "Today, while the violets still cling to the vine..." I've heard it & it's really pretty. I learned a version at Girl Scout Camp long ago that said, "Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine, I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink you sweet wine. A million tomorrows will all pass away...'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today" Or something like that- that's how I remember it at least. I don't know all the ADPi words but I"ll look through my stuff to see if I can find it.

I've never heard the ADPi version, but now I know the tune! One of the folk rock groups did it (Peter, Paul, and Mary?) back in the 60's. I heard it recently on NPR. I'd like to hear the words, too!

ADPiAkron, do y'all do that, too?! That song is just too campy to ever let it die!

I'm such a geek - now & then, something will come up at the office & remind of a recruitment song, and I'll burst into song! It's a casual office, so they've gotten used to it. The worst is when somebody says, "Bye bye!" and of course I'm thinking of you-know-what-song!!! :D

honeychile 01-27-2004 12:39 AM

I was wrong - it was the New Christy Minstrals. Here are the lyrics for their song, not the ADPi version:

Today

-Artists: The New Christy Minstrels
-Words and Music by Minstrels' leader Randy Sparks

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine

A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today

I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover

Who cares what the morrow shall bring?

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory
I can't live on promises winter to spring

(winter to spring)

Today is my moment and now is my story

I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mi-uh-ine today

YES!!! Mrs. Lamb was our recruitment music special guest. She always came into the chapter during spirit week to make sure our songs sounded like they were suppose to. I think she still does. There was severl occassions when she would sing songs that were popular while she was at Gamma Upsilon. That was one of them. I can honestly say i have heard that one! And, I love it!!!

WLFEO 02-01-2004 08:00 PM

These CDs would make great Alpha gifts, all you NMCs out there!
