Calling all people sick of partisan bickering!
Democrat, Republican, Green, Socialist, Fascist, Independent, whatever your party.
It is well over a year before the next election and if you're already sick of partisan bickering, this thread is for you! |
Bickering = bad
discussion = good Hopefully the threads can and will come to great discussion *keeps fingers crossed* |
Count me in!
Is there anyone on this board that is politically moderate...or close to it? Anyone? ...and then some black or white thinker will probably to tell us that we have to be one thing or the other. This board is hell of the contrast where i'm from - most of us are slightly left. This board has given me the oppurtunity to learn that not all conservatives/republicans and strong liberals/democrats live up to their stereotypes. But, occasionally and unfortunately these stereotypes are reinforced. |

Well this may make me a horrible American but I am just not into politics at ALL. I know I know, I should be informed about all of it, but it just gives me a headache! I agree with some Republican ideas and some Democrat ideas, I am just smack in the middle, and I don't want to choose EITHER! :D But yes, I am sick of the bickering as well, just b/c you don't agree with someone else's opinion doesn't make their opinion less valid. |

you know..there never would have been a problem if those stupid republicans hadn't hijaked the thread and started talking sh*t :)

I'm a bit left of center, actually. Registered Democrat, but I've got some problems with the Democratic Party, on both the national and local levels. |
I am far from politically moderate, but I agree that the arguing and partisan bickering gets old really fast. I don't even see the point of it really, because arguing isn't going to make anyone change her mind. When someone tries to argue with me about politics, it just makes me realize that I am so right and that other person is so wrong. :)

The big problem I have is with the name-calling on BOTH sides. There has been some intelligent debate, and there has been some preschool debate. We don't have to agree - but let's act like adults. |

I give up!
"No matter how many times you piss in the wind, all you do is get stinky and wet." |
I'm definately not into politics, but it could be because of all the opponent bashing commercials you see on TV. So obnoxious!
|
Everyone must chill. :)
I like politics and I have my opinions, but for the most part I keep them to myself in real life. :) Have a nice day to all the Independents, Republicans, and Democrats. :) |
Color me socially liberal (WAY liberal), yet fiscally moderate. I'm a registered Democrat but voted Green in 2000, and will likely switch to Independent in '04.

I registered Independent because I think both sides are full of crap. I have no clue how the heck I'm going to vote next year lol. |

I am not a registered democrat, but my views definitely veer to the left! But I appreciate discussions... |

I also think that most people involved with the political parties are pretty corrupt, and I love how their supporters refuse to see that, but the moment the opposing party does the same damn thing, they're all over it like termites on rotting wood. Another reason why I really try not to align myself with one particular group. Why can't we just have a bunch of people talk about the way they think the country should be run, and then you vote for the person who think will do the best job? Why do we have to have these "alligiences"? Call me a bad sister, but if one of my sisters was running for some sort of Student Gov't office and I thought someone outside of my sorority would do a better job than she would, I'd vote for the other person. After all, they have "authority" over me, and I'd want the person in that office that would do the better job. You would hope that the person who is your sister would do a good job, but part of being sisters is that you respect and understand people's faults. Say my sister really wanted the job but was really unorganized or too busy, and her opponent is perfect for the position. I love her and respect that she's not perfect, but I'm not going to set her up for failure or hurt our Student Gov't. That might be a little controversial for some people, and I apologize, but I want the best person to do the job. |
Big question
Say you're at a Democratic convention or fundraising dinner, how do you bag two chicks so you can have a threesome with them?
-Rudey --I'd like to get a Lewinsky from Hillary and Chelsea. |
Rudey
see THAT was uncalled for! NOBODY wanted that visual!!!!!!!! Oh god I have to go find a picture of the Rock or something. |

Yes, GC, AXO Alum is offering her APOLOGY for getting too heated up about things that shouldn't matter (meaning, that to us here on GC it shouldn't matter since, as texas*princess pointed out, we aren't in the senate or anything). I mean, yes, my view point does matter to me -- but no, I shouldn't have gotten heated up about it and let it get the best of me to drag it out. I apologize for this. |

I am!
I'm in the middle of the Democrat thread right now and getting annoyed . . . and I'm sure the Republican thread will be no better. I was interested in getting some debate going over the Democrats' chances, what they have to do to overcome Bush, which ones people like and which they don't. Instead, all it is is people ripping on each other's political beliefs. What is it about politics that demotes people to 12-year-olds in terms of maturity? |
I know I come off as a big Republican, but I feel the way most of you do. Truth be told I lean to the middle. I think that's what is troubling for most Americans. Most of us feel WE aren't really represented. Just shadows of our individual beliefs. Like trying to get a bill passed and all of a sudden, all this PORK gets tacked on. I believe the Dems have a very difficult time with this issue-finding the middle ground- because that's what it will take. By the same token-the Reps MUST get this economy back in line. For the moment, the support is behind Georgie Boy. I didn't say it was behind the Party. I really think the jury will be out till we get closer to election. AlphaSigOU-I share your philosophy-on MANY issues- not just this one.

btw, Rudey, the provocative thing was some funny ish. AXO Alum, it takes a lot to admit you were wrong and apologize..I, for one, appreciate that. |
Whether you're into politics or not everyone should tune into C-SPAN at least once or twice a week and see what our lawmakers are doing. C-SPAN broadcasts the House and Senate live and you'll see the real deal.

My father always warned me about two things you should never discuss with people: Religion and Politics because you'll never see eye-to-eye or change their oppinions. Proved to be pretty smart so generally I don't discuss either to length. But I will say this much, I'm Republican and I voted for BUSH and I'm darn proud of him and our troops!

I appreciate you appreciating that -- okay, that's a tongue twister. I just wish that many of us would have settled down enough to allow each of us to clarify our posts a little better (as heat usually means rush which leads to misunderstanding). I still stand by my opinions and viewpoints, but I should have let things calm down a little more. It really bothers me that I have been called names personally (as in people posting using me as the target specifically), because I am a good person and not disgusting, etc. I would never have spoken a bad word against our country - I love living here too much! :) As such, I am off to meet my brother's ship which is returning today! I know that many people will be rejoicing that I am away from GC even for just 4 days (no, you may not take up donations to keep me on a permanent vacation ;) ), but hopefully this will give everyone time to step back from this whole debacle and return to our normally happy GC selves! (Oh, and if you are PM'ing me - I won't have access to a computer, so feel free to fill the box up ;) ) |
Voting along parties lines is wack. People should vote for those they feel will have the most positive effect on everyone (that is, of course, the idea behind a republic). I believe it was the orignial GW who warned that we should not get entangled in political parties.
Since our current political system is based off political parties anyway, people should at least examine all their options. I tried to be Republican but things didn't work out, lol, so now I'm just independent (after wavering between Greens and Democrats). Bush sucks but big up to John McCain, that's one Repub I have a lot of respect for. |
