Hijacking

Conversations naturally take twists and turns and on message boards it is not the exception. But there is a fine line between going from blue to green and going from WHITE to BLACK.

I don't see small hijacks and posts mildly deviating from the OT as a problem. Hypothetical-but if the thread is about relationships and someone suddenly posts about cars and the thread goes on about cars several pages long, that is just disrespectful-to the original thread starter and the people who want to discuss the original topic. All of us has done it time to time, but there are some guilty people who do this ALL the time and I seriously think this is done on purpose.

In certain forums this wouldn't even be allowed.

*edited* I am warning you: If you hijack this thread I will FOREVER hijack yours. Agree? :)

I don't disagree with you or anything, but I wanted to point out that in MANY forums it happens ALL the time, and no one seems to care. But that's what makes threads ridiculously long too.Yes, it's annoying, but I fail to understand why it gets people so worked up? Or maybe I just haven't seen the posts that you're referring to?

ARYA & AGGIESIGMANU-can you tell me how to post a picture???

Just joking Dionysus!;)

For the most part, GC is like a party. You have all these people and it's natural for conversations to evolve from other topics. I haven't noticed it happening too often when the thread is about things like real depression, totally broken hearts or issue that require a serious response. THEN, there are times when an issue has run it's course and all that can be said, HAS been said.
So if a few people hang out to finish up a mini conversation within the topic, where's the harm in that? Come to my house...when my father-in-law talks, it's like he's holding court. It could be the most boring topic in the world but if a mini conversation starts he will stop and tell his wife-"Now Sara, JAM may want to listen to this." Harumph!!! Not much fun-like a meeting-kind of stiffles the flow. Thing is-no one else gets a turn!

Easy... enclose the link to where you have the picture with the [img] UBB code.

Hootie 06-25-2003 11:57 AM

Yeah I remember once there was a thread about something...perhaps it was the Miss Universe thread and then ALL OF THE SUDDEN it was about some donut place in Canada for like a page. LOL. That I didn't mind TOO much cuz hey, whatever - the thread was pretty trivial (no offense to whomever started it). But at the same time it makes going through the posts annoying because you have to disect them.

I'm making a pizza for dinner, it should be just about done, so I'll go get it out. Anyone else eating pizza? or maybe eating period?

Is it true that eating provides much-needed calories for the body to utilize as fuel? i read that somewhere.

Anyway - tell me about *insert something sexual here* because i'm just a naive little girl! hardyhar i love the internet.

What IS the difference between a flick a movie and a film?

flick= extremely commercial, hyped up, long-awaited, manufactured-to-be-a-big-hit-but-in-all-actuality-is-really-crappy, usually popular with 12-16 year olds that can't get into rated-R movies yet, may have a happy meal or action figure supplement...

movie= sometimes a surprise hit sometimes intentional but that is very rare, actually has good content/storyline/acting, most of the time is not originally intended to have a grand following but because of quality in content/storyline/acting ends up winning the oscar

film= can be low or high budget, not usually well known but will most likely have a huge cult following, love-it-or-leave-it, usually can't walk down the street and watch it at the multiplex- you'll have to go to a smaller and more intimate setting...or rent it, will usually have good content/storyline/acting but this depends on the director and the budget...

Yawwn. And I'm an NBA fan. I'm more interested in the Lakers trying to find a good free agent or two and hoping that the Diesel gets back into shape. I'm sick of hearing about T.D.

I'm trying to talk about something serious, and i get this shit back. Rudy and RC i have never shat on neither of you in the past so don't do it to me.

If I did say something, be an man enough to say it, rather following me around with sarcastic or insulting replies.

i totally agree with you. i feel very much the same way. people start topic for a reason. if you want to change the subject, start another thread. or hello??? start a 'random part 2' thread. but people do need to respect the thread starter. i hate when someone asks a question, and there are 3 pages of nonsense before it gets answered.

yeah - they need to actually use their collective brain this season, once the Logo bailed they've been left with crap like signing Devean George (!!!) to a rich extention . . . hopefully it won't be another summer of "Entire vet exemption goes to . . . MITCH RICHMOND!"

Thank you. Hopefully P.J. Brown or some banger like that will take a pay hit in order to have a chance to win. The Lakers need a big body to take pressure of Diesel, but I also say that Diesel needs to get in shape. There's no way he should weigh close to 400 l-b-s with 20% body fat.

20% body fat...holy kamolies, that's ridiculous...not just for any professional athelete, but especially pertaining to a sport that's one of the most physically demanding. Big D, lay off the Big Macs.

I didn't realize he'd gotten that much out of shape - that's ridiculous, especially when the Lakers need him so bad.
I think they'll have a good chance at Brown, although it'll be interesting to see who the Spurs go after. They could go after a big name, or take a lower priced guy (like Brown) and wait till next year.

He got out of shape last summer, when he delayed the toe surgery. As a Lakers' fan, I'm still beyond angry about that. He's never been a huge workout guy, but once you get past 30, it's hard to get the pounds off.

That's right. But, who can blame the chef? I wouldn't be telling that giant what he could, and could not eat, when he's hungry.
