Hi All! New to GC!

Hi! Thought I would start a thread to let everyone know a little about me. I'm going to be a 20 year old freshman at Bowling Green and am super excited (& mildly scared) about rush in the fall. I have several greek friends at BG, so it's something I've been looking forward to for a while.

Any advice for me would be greatly appreciated, as I have nobody in my family that was greek and not many people other than my greek friends who understand/support my decision.

Thanks!

My best advice is just to read the threads in the rush forum. They have a bunch of great advice! Just relax and I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck and welcome to Greek Chat :)

Welcome to Greek Chat!

Relax, be yourself, and be sure to read ALL the posts in a given thread - you'll get a very real sense of the very wonderful world of being a greek!

May you join the chapter you love, and may you love the chaper you join!

Sarah-

Welcome to BG!

I'm an alum (Class of 2000). You'll have a great experience there and many fun times :)

Please keep us up to date on your rush, and let me know any questions you may have!

Welcome to GC and good luck with rush!

Thank you guys so much!
I had a questions about rec's and whether or not I needed them, but both of my greek friends@ my school said I shouldn't.

I'm just so excited. I have so many great groups to choose from, and I've been doing alot of homework, so I have a pretty good idea which philanthropies I think would most benefit me, and which I could most benefit. Now I just need to meet the girls and find out where I truly belong!

I think that if you CAN get recs, you should... no matter what your friends said. It certainly never hurts to have one, especially if you are concerned about being at a disadvantage (your class standing). I'm not trying to be rude or cause you to doubt your friends' word, but if I were you, I'd at least try to get a few recs before recruitment starts.

Best of luck! Doing your "homework" will definitely present a better image than someone who hasn't..but then again, isn't that true in class, lol.

Today I talked to a girl who is living in the hall next to mine and was sad that her roomie wasn't going to rush with her. So I told her she can hang with me, since I'm doing it alone as well!

OUlioness01 06-22-2003 11:33 PM

i've never ever heard of someone in Ohio needing a rec so don't worry about it. i just don't think it's that cuthroat here, and I know people who have gone through rush at Ohio U (obviously), BG, Miami Ohio, UD, Ohio State, Case Western, UC, and Baldwin Wallace. Good luck Sarah and keep us updated!

As far as recs and BG...

I was COB girl myself, but in the two years I was on the opposite end of the spectrum, I probably only saw a handful of girls with recs. They can't hurt, of course, but they're not nearly as important as they would be at a SEC school. If you can get them, great, if not...It's not a huge deal.

bgsarah 06-22-2003 11:51 PM

good. thanks!
before I joined GC, I'd never even heard of recs!

SDTSarah 06-22-2003 11:51 PM

Welcome! I would try to get recs if you can...I don't think they can ever hurt. I wish I had known that before rush! Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted!

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to GC and good luck with formal recruitment.

Ditto what the others have said and keep an open mind; and if they have info sessions available about rush I recommend that you attend if it works into your schedule.:)

I'm already keeping a rush diary with my initial thoughts, etc., so you guys will get a pretty detailed rush breakdown come september!

Welcome Sarah and good luck with Recruitment!

Please post your story - I love to hear what's happening at BG. It's been a while since I was there and when I saw the numbers from recruitment at BG last year, I was stunned. Some of the powerhouses from when I was there definitely have switched places with some of the smaller houses.

The point of saying that is to keep a wide open mind when you rush...don't look at how pretty a house is, or how many girls are there, what you've heard about them, or where your rush buddy thinks is best...look for where you feel the most comfortable. Also don't be devastated if a house you really liked cuts you (not that it will happen!!). I remember being crushed when the house that I thought I SHOULD like (I was a legacy) cut me. After all was said and done, I saw that I would have been miserable in that sorority and with that group of girls.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Recruitment numbers were apparently huge last year and I've heard that they're expecting even more this year, so it's going to be crazy.

I think it would be really hard to judge houses. haha. because there are all the nice cottage-y, colonial houses AND all the dorm-style houses on the other side of campus.

That's what is going to suck. walking from a house on one side of the campus to another house ALL THE WAY on the other side.

I just hope we go to the conklin houses on the second day, since we start at 9am, and my dorm is right by conklin, haha.

I was really nervous before, but I'm doing pretty good now. I'm calming down. One of my friends is a KD who is transferring to a (I think) KD-less school. So she's bummed since she was looking forward to rush this year.

Anyway. Thanks for the luck & such! <3
