sweetheart/mothers pins

I just have a few quick questions. I will be rushing this fall and my boyfriend is pledging. I have been looking online at some of the badges and things, and I was wondering....how exactly do sweetheart and mothers pins work? Do you have to be engaged to give a sweetheart pin? Would you wear your sorority pin and sweetheart pin at the same time? Do sororoties have some kind of parallel thing to give their boyfriends? Do the mothers pins go to any mother? Or just ones of legaices? I'm just curious about all this, I would love to get a sweetheart's pin, and my mom would adore a mother's pin ;) Thanks! - Amanda

I think you can give a mother's pin to anyone, if she's the mother of a member of that particular GLO.

Not sure about the rest, though.

Amanda, every fraternity and sorority is different, so it's hard to generalize. All mothers of Alpha Delta Pis are respected and may wear the Mother's Pin. NO other pin is ever worn above an ADPi pin, although I've seen some pinned ADPis wear both their pin & their boyfriend's fraternity pin at about the same level, with the guard chains entwined. Sweetheart pins were only given to the fraternity sweetheart at my school, so I'm not up on the traditions concerning them.

I'm sure others will chime in with their 2¢ too!

ADPi's mother's pins are beautiful :)

Do all sorororities have Mother's Pins? I think it would be awesome to see them all!

Sigma Nu Sweetheart pin

(we call her our "White Rose").

This is the first time on GC I've ever read something mentioning mother pins. Sweetheart pins on the other hand, I've seen before. Try PM-ing one of the many sweethearts that post here, or run a search of the boards keyword: sweetheart, pinning, lavalier, etc.

:)

<---I feel like I know what I'm talking about! Yippee!! lol

GeekyPenguin 06-17-2003 03:33 PM

Our Mother's Pin is only to be worn if the member dies. Ex: I died, my chapter would give my mom a mother's pin.

Sweetheart badges vary hugely...some chapters give them to just their sweetheart, some pin their girlfriends whenever they want, some can't pin until engagement, some have to have a chapter vote on pinning...

I know there are a lot of sweethearts on GC, and there is also a thread on this in the SigEp forum, you might have to dig for it.

The1calledTKE 06-17-2003 03:41 PM

The TKE sweetheart pins go to either the chapter sweetheart or to a gf. It's the badge your suppose to use instead of giving your gf your real pin to wear. We have 2 versions to chose from, all smaller versions of the TKE brothers badge.

Here's a link to a similar thread from a while back...there are a few pictures posted too! :)

Our mother's pin can be worn by the mother of any initiated member. There's supposedly a ceremony for it, but ours never came in, so I dunno.

Lady Pi Phi 06-17-2003 03:54 PM

Pi Phi also has a mother's pin. I'm not sure on the rules for wearing it, but if you'd like to have a look here it is.

Mother's Pin

(to view, go to the pull down and select pins...it's closer to the bottom...it is an arrowhead with the letters Pi Beta Phi)

AZ-AlphaXi 06-17-2003 04:15 PM

Alpha Xi Delta has both a mother's pin and a father's pin

The mother's pin may be worn by the mother of any initiated member. My mother wears her mother's pin as the quard to her quill instead of a chapter quard.

The father's pin may be worn by the father of any initiated member.

astroAPhi 06-17-2003 04:27 PM

Is there anything for Alpha Phis? I've never heard of it but I would love to get that for my mom!

trisigmaAtl 06-17-2003 04:35 PM

I'm a Chi Phi sweetheart, they have sweetheart pins available but I don't have one. I don't think the brothers even knew the pins existed! I stumbled upon them one day at masters of design and they were suprised to learn of them (our greek world is small). If I had one I would probably just wear it to their rush events, x-mas party, etc. More than likely not ever with my own badge.

texas*princess 06-17-2003 04:56 PM

Lambda Chi Alpha has a sweetheart pin..it looks similiar to their badge.. although I've never seen any LXA sweethearts wear them? At least not at my first school.

33girl 06-17-2003 05:28 PM

We have a mother patroness pin, but you don't get it just for being a mom...it is an honor for actively contributing to the sorority.

We also have a Phoenix recognition pin. Same deal. We gave these to our sweethearts.

CutiePie2000 06-17-2003 05:30 PM

DG has a Mom pin. It looks similar to our NM pin - a white shield with Delta and Gamma on it and a teensy anchor between the 2 letters.

sherbertlemons 06-17-2003 06:50 PM

I could be mistaken, but I don't think Kappa has a mother's pin. It's a pity, cause I think my mother would really love one!

APhiAngel 06-17-2003 07:30 PM

I also want to know if Alpha Phi has anything like a mother's pin or even a father's pin. I'd like to get one for my mom. If any A. Phi's read this please let me know :)

fingerbang 06-17-2003 08:25 PM

sae doesnt have a sweetheart pin, we instead give or violet (basically our sweetheart) a lavalier of our letters and an SAE sweater with violet on the sleeve

Glitter650 06-17-2003 09:04 PM

Phi Sig has a mother's pin and a ceremony to give them out. I We try to do the ceremony once a year.. I know last year we did it at our division founder's day celebration. :) They can be worn by any mother of an active sister. I personally think our mother's pins are kinda plain though... but I know my mom will love it no matter what it looks like.

honeychile 06-17-2003 09:22 PM

Our Mother's Pin:

You can get either a CZ or a real diamond, and they're both very reasonable.

KillarneyRose 06-17-2003 09:31 PM

Delta Zeta has all sorts of goodies as far as pins are concerned!

The Mothers' Pin is a gold Ionic column with the Greek letters DZ in the base and pearls in the crown. Initiates and pledges as well are allowed to purchase it for their moms or it can be given as a gift (pending approval) to a housemother or another woman who has done a lot for the sorority.

The Fathers' /Husbands' Pin is of the same style but is smaller. They can be used as lapel pins or tie tacs. I'm not sure if this is something a Delta Zeta would give to a boyfriend or not.

We also have something called a Daughter-Granddaughter Pendant . It's so pretty! It's a gold lamp with the letters DZ on it surrounded by a heart. Any sister can purchase it for her daughter or granddaughter and, yes, both of my babies have one (although I've put them away for safe keeping for the next few years :) )
