What does *your* badge look like?

All the badge threads got me thinking. Of the different styles of badges that your GLO offers, which one did you pick? And include pics if you can, because I, along with others, love looking at the beautiful badges!

My anchor is white gold and chased with 4 pearls, and I love it!

My badge looks like this. It is standard. I've never seen another badge.

LeslieAGD 06-16-2003 08:27 PM

This thread also deals with badge selection:

sherbertlemons 06-16-2003 08:53 PM

I own the ever-so-beautiful key with crown pearls and enameled letters.

Sistermadly 06-16-2003 09:47 PM

Plain goldgloss monogram... for now. ;)

PSK480 06-16-2003 09:48 PM

I have the standard Phi Sigma Kappa badge, just a plain gold badge with the leafing as seen in the lower badge just take out the pearls. I've seen a lot of different styles, from encrusted pearls, diamonds, and rubies. I guess it all depends on how much you are will to spend. Every member gets the one I got from what I know. It's really basic and plain and I haven't been able to find a picture of it. To look at our badge go here

VSUPhiMu 06-16-2003 10:13 PM

I have the Phi Mu badge with pearls, but it has rubies on the four points. It's so pretty!!

SmartBlondeGPhB 06-16-2003 10:27 PM

The Gamma and the Beta are all rubies (albeit rather pink in color, which I like even more) and the Phi is all pearl. The chapter guard is a phi with pearls and ruby (same pink) points.

I also have a two tone (gold Gamma and Beta, silver Phi) badge on a pendant.

I keep meaning to have my parents bring there digital camera over so I can take a picture of both.

That's what my badge will look like, once it gets here.

For SmartBlondeGPhB, this is our badge on a pendant.

The only option offered for the Delta Zeta badge is the setting of the diamond. It can either be a 6-pronged Tiffany setting or a bezel setting we call "flush". All of us have either one or the other.

While sometimes I wish we'd had all the options available that I've seen other sororities have, I understand that our badges are uniform because every single aspect of the badge has a distinct meaning for us. That's very special to me :)

Any GPhiB's...

First of all, your badge looks fantastic on a pendant and I AM jealous that we're not allowed to do that with ours

Second, what language is that on the bottom of your badge? I thought maybe Hebrew but I wasn't sure. I apologize if I asked something I shouldn't have though! :)

AlphaGamJLo 06-17-2003 12:32 AM

Here's the pic of my Alpha Gam badge with the beautiful 14 pearls:

honeychile 06-17-2003 12:37 AM

My initiation pin is the pearls with sapphire points, only with white gold:

http://www.greek.villanova.edu/alpha...ages/badge.gif

I have a ring that is the yellow gold, only with ruby points, and another pin with just the pearls on yellow gold.

PhiMuNursie 06-17-2003 12:43 AM

my own personal initiation badge is crown pearls all the way around the quatrefoil.

I also have one with pearls and diamonds on the four points, two with rubies on the points (both with and without pearls), and one with saphires, and two that are just plain gold without chasing. My newest is emeralds and pearls. Yes, I love rescuing beautiful Phi Mu badges from where ever I find them out of Phi Mu hands.

Tara
I have a Phi Mu castle...

GMUBunny 06-17-2003 01:35 AM

I have the ZTA plain badge (somewhere in all my junk)

http://www.mastersofdesign.com/image...t/img1-342.jpg

and my new badge just came today! It's sterling silver with alternating pearls and sapphires. Absolutely gorgeous!!!

http://www.mastersofdesign.com/image...t/img1-348.jpg
without that chapter guard, of course...do need to order one, though!

OleMissGlitter 06-17-2003 01:55 AM

I have my great-grandmother's badge from 1924 from when she was an AOII at the UTK, Omicron Chapter. It was then given to her daughter, my grandmother and then to me. It is gold with pearls on each letter, the A, O, and II. They do not make the badge like this anymore and there is a ruby in the apex of the A. The badge is also smaller then the ones made today. Then I have my badge which is just gold with a ruby in the apex and my sister has leant me her badge which is white gold with a ruby in the apex. I am thinking about purchasing a two tone badge.

aephi alum 06-17-2003 09:09 AM

We AEPhis get no choice.

http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaEpsilon...s/AEPhiB22.jpg

27 pearls, yellow gold, end of story. You can get a chapter guard that is pearl jeweled to match (which I did).

I love my pin and all that it stands for, and I like the idea that all my sisters have the exact same pin... at the same time, I would have liked white gold... I'd probably wear it more if it went with my other jewelry. And I'm envious of those of you who are allowed to wear your badges as pendants or rings...

MysticCat 06-17-2003 09:47 AM

Currently, there are only two choices in Phi Mu Alpha: The official badge, which is jeweled and is what I have

http://www.vintagefraternitypins.com...phimualpha.jpg

and a non-jeweled version with a scrolled border. The non-jeweled version was originally offered to be less expensive, but the difference in cost is not that great. Because of the meaning of the official badge, there will be a proposal before our National Assembly next month to make the jeweled badge the only option.

I'm glad that we don't offer a variety of options with regard to jewels or white vs. yellow gold. Like KillarneyRose, I appreciate the meaning behind our design. I also like the idea that all of my brothers (well, most of them at least) have the same badge that I do, regardless of income or station in life.

AUDeltaGam 06-17-2003 01:23 PM

Some of you have posted saying that you have rescued old badges. Where did you find them? At antique stores, or somewhere else? I know I would love to find (and buy!!) an old Delta Gamma badge!!

I have the Tiffany setting because that's what my chapter voted on, but I really like the flush setting better...it's a little more unusual-looking.

My chapter guard is plain gold, but one of these days (when I get the cash!) I'm going to get one of the pearled ones.

Flea markets, antique stores, estate sales, pawn shops, and ebay are the first places to look. You'd be surprised where all you'll find them!

I rescued my badge from our nationals. I don't know if all groups do this, but IO has badges that have been returned to the fraternity (members die, etc) and I got it at a discounted price. Paying $40 for a used badge in mint condition (it really is flawless) instead of close to a hundred for a brand new one sounded much better to me!

Gamma Phi allows our members to purchase "used" badges from IH as replacements for badges that have been lost or stolen.

AZ-AlphaXi 06-17-2003 04:07 PM

Having rescued several Quills from ebay I now own:

15 pearl (open crown) quill with diamond tip (mine)
20 pearl (open crown) quill with diamond tip (1928)
20 pearl (open crown) quill (194?)
15 pearl (closed crown) quill (1942)

I have also donated 2 20 pearl quills that I rescued. One to Theta Omega chapter (NMSU) and one to Iota Eta chapter (UTEP) to be worn by the president while she's in office.

APhiAngel 06-17-2003 04:51 PM

I wouldn't know what MY badge looks like b/c it fell off my shirt after a meeting sometime last year. I know is really sad :( I am trying to save up for the pearled Alpha Phi badge. Until then I am going to order a new plain Alpha Phi badge, which I LOVE!

ksig600 07-24-2003 04:18 PM

My badge is sterling silver with all pearls, and a plain sterling silver chapter guard

Ginger 07-24-2003 04:38 PM

For about 3 more days, you can see our badge on Ebay

SilverTurtle 07-24-2003 08:20 PM

I have the plain badge (& chapter guard) in white gold:

http://www.carriefrederick.com/photos/badge.jpg

Other options are plain yellow gold (exactly like mine in yellow) or yellow gold with pearls, close set or crown set. Here's the crown set:

http://www.phibeta.com/graphics/jewelry/crown_set.jpg

sairose 07-24-2003 08:45 PM

Here's an SAI badge on ebay right now(grrrrr....):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11013

All SAI badges are the same. You can either get goldplate or real gold, but there are no different varieties.

That's fine with me, because our badge is beautiful as it is! :D

AOIIalum 07-24-2003 10:15 PM

Wow, the badge of SAI is gorgeous! I don't think I've ever seen one before now, and it's just incredibly stunning.

ZetaMelOU 07-24-2003 10:29 PM

I have the plain ZTA badge right now. I'm hoping to get one of the really nice ones with a chain soon.

Thanks a lot! We think so too. ;)

erica812 07-25-2003 10:42 AM

Our badge is posted on my chapter website. The picture is terribly fuzzy, but you get the idea! The torch has seed pearls
down the center.

Beta Sigma Phi has a different badge for each degree of membership. The one pictured here is the "Ritual of Jewels" badge, the first degree after being a pledge.

(just scroll down a very little bit)

DWAlphaGam 07-25-2003 10:42 AM

I have the plain gold AGD badge:

http://www.burrpatt.com/alphagammade...es/AGDBad3.jpg

But I hope to upgrade to the 14-pearl badge soon (hopefully before Convention next year!).

I also have this one ;):

http://www.burrpatt.com/ThetaChi/Images/Button23.jpg

because the boy finally got me the OX sweetheart badge so I don't have to wear his big bulky one anymore. :D

Nhfulmer 07-25-2003 01:44 PM

My Zeta badge is yellow gold with opals and blue saphire points; the guard is opals. As with others, we are not allowed to make another form of jewelry from our badge. The most gorgeous Zeta pin I have ever seen was diamonds with onyx points - beautiful!

My son's Kappa Sigma pin is yellow gold with emeralds and rubies - except that he ran it through the washing machine and lost some of the jewels. I bought it for him when he was initiated and told him he would have to pay to have it repaired.

My husband's Phi Kappa Sigma pin is plain gold. That is their only choice. Many years ago they did have jeweled pins. I saw one on Ebay a couple of years ago and would have paid almost anything for it; however, I forgot to go online when the auction was almost over because I was watching a basketball game (during NCAA tournament) and someone just barely outbid me. I kick myself every time I think about it. (That is what I get for being a sports fanatic!) Even their National doesn't have one in their collection. Their president's pin is a little larger than the normal pin.

AlphaSigOU 07-25-2003 04:09 PM

Alpha Sigma Phi's policy on badges is that all are the same size and none of them may be jeweled. In keeping with the non-jeweled badge, they recommend that the chapter guard and officer dangles, if worn, are not jeweled as well.

The official badge:
http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...hasigmaphi.jpg

My badge with Alpha Alpha chapter guard:
http://www.ou.edu/student/greek/alph...P_AA_badge.jpg

The only badge that is larger is that worn by the HSP (chapter president) during the term of his office. It closely approximates the size and design of the original badges worn by our founders in the mid-1800s. If I remember correctly the original badge worn by founder Louis Manigault is worn by the Grand Senior President during his term of office.

The president's badge:
http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...badgeasphi.jpg

Only the wife or fiancee of a member may wear the badge; other female members of the brother's family (including the wife or fiancee) may wear the Sister Pin, which is adapted from the fraternity badge of Alpha Kappa Pi fraternity. AKPi consolidated with Alpha Sigma Phi in 1946. It is the only fraternity jewelry that may be jeweled.
