Honestly...

how can anyone hate 50 cent, it seems like no one on here likes him...his rhymes are so sick, for real he spits it better than any rapper I've ever heard, I don't get why people hate on him!!!

PhiMuJulia 06-14-2003 02:33 AM

alright not as good as Nas

winnieb 06-14-2003 02:38 AM

Because I have a HUGE hangup with his name----- it irritates me to no end. --- 50 is multiple, therefore cent should be plural!!!

-okay so i have my anal moments....
-wendi

PhiMuJulia 06-14-2003 02:43 AM

oh and your supposed to say it fitty cent like the korean people say in a shop or at the flea market...no offense to any koreans out there

Unregistered- 06-14-2003 02:45 AM

I don't really dig rap, but I'd choose Eminem over 50 any day.

I can't believe people actually paid $40 to see him live here a few weeks ago. His show was CRAP! Fabolous [Wendi, how's that for grammatical error], his opening act, was even worse!

Did you really just write that? Putting "no offense" after what you just wrote does not take away from the fact that you made a rude comment. That's just like if I said "Not to be a bitch or anything, but I think XXXX is so ugly." Just because I put a disclaimer, doesn't make it NOT rude or right for that matter.

And if we were "supposed" to say his name like that, why didn't he spell it that way then? Are we just supposed to "know" that automatically?

Then you may want to take the name of your sorority out of your sig and user name.......

Especially if you're going to make racial stereotypes.

"we gonna drink bacardi cuz its your birfday blahblahblah come give me a hug" yeah, thats some quality stuff right there.

Hmmmm...brilliant?? Brilliant like, Einstien or Picasso? Brilliant like Madame Curie or Louis Pasteur?? (There's the medical person in me coming out :p )

I would HARDLY apply the term "brilliant" to someone who really stretched to come up with that line.

PM_Mama00 06-14-2003 10:57 AM

Birfday reminds me of barfday. Kinda gross dontcha think?

Ok so I like some of "fitty"'s songs, but come on. Who comes out with like 3 new songs at once? OVERPLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he is by far the ugliest rapper out there. Too bad he's my husband's friend... you know.. Em?

To be honest, I'm pretty sure that it wasn't "FITTY" who coined that term. I've heard that phrase long before "FITTY" spit it out.

kddani 06-14-2003 11:07 AM

The songs that i've heard of his (i'm not exactly rushing out to buy his CD) are just good fun party music. There's nothing "brilliant"... perhaps the only "brilliant" is the marketing people at his record company that have shoved his music down everyone's throats.

I think that's the main reason why people are "hatin" on him.... I hate on a lot of songs that i'm forced to hear 4000 times a day... on several different radio stations

I also don't think it was Koreans who started it, as stated by PhiMuJulia.

It's a mark of poor grammar (which in Pittsburgh, we have tons of! I get so sick of hearing "warsh" instead of "wash", etc.) and regional dialetics.

Hahahaha

Julia, it's $10 per milligram-10 milligram tablets.

I am so joking.

That is totally illegal.

True.

I used to know this guy who always mooched off of everyone, he'll be like "Ehhh YO T! Can you loan me FITTY CENT? I will pay you back, I promise!" I'm like, it is just fifty cents, you can keep it.

Come on guys, anyone who thinks that the fat kid/cake line is "brilliant"? You shouldn't expect much from them.

Let's not even go into the spelling and grammatical errors. Yeah, I like dancing to 50 Cent in the club, but I don't think I'd buy his CD, and I wouldn't consider most rappers "brilliant," as a lot of the contemporary lyrical styles are just rips of rappers that these young'uns don't know about...:p

kddani 06-14-2003 01:40 PM

Example of the 50 cent "brilliance"

Read this interview, and please tell me how any rational person could think this guy to be "brilliant"

Brilliant compared to what? A rock?

lovelyivy84 06-14-2003 01:46 PM

This thread is fuuuuunny. I would quote that line about it being better to be thought stupid than to open your mouth and confirm it but I think it's unnecessary.

50 Cent is aight. He is not the second freakin coming but he has good beats.

I like his independent stuff though- The Realest f/ Biggie? That song was hot from day one and is STILL a banger, no matter how many times I hear it.

Th Art of Getting Robbed? Hysterical. that song was so clever and unlike anything else that was out when I heard it.

Hmmm, I'm Korean and I say "Fifty" like its SUPPOSED to sound. Not all Koreans forget to pronounce the F. If you didnt know....the Korean language does not have the letter "f" or any equivilent to it.

I suggest you try to speak the Korean language and see if YOU can pronounce everything right. I will be happy to teach you :)

I have quite a few Korean friends and have YET to hear them say "fitty" for fifty.

My sentiments exactly! You are not representing your GLO properly by making the stereotypes

And yes I think Fifty Cent is majorally overplayed!

I just want to apologize to all who are offended by what my sister from afar has said. It was unneeded and needs to be taken off. I am not Korean, but I know I would be pissed if someone was making fun of my heritage.

BTW... I say it fitty sometimes too... when I'm tryin to be ghetto-fabulous, not another Nationality.

VSUPhiMu 06-14-2003 03:31 PM

I agree with PM_Mama00. I would hate for ya'll to think that Phi Mu thinks this way, and I assure we don't. Phi Mu accepts women of all nationalities and ethnicities and doesn't condone comments like Julia's.

Jadey28 06-14-2003 04:59 PM

Notice how the author of this thread has nothing to say now??? Anyway, I too think that 50 cent is overplayed and I wouldn't purchase his CD. And to the other Phi Mu's out there....everyone on GC should know that this is not how ALL Phi Mu's feel.

Jill1228 06-14-2003 05:29 PM

We know most of y'all are da bomb! :D

I say fitty when I am being ghettofabulous too!

I have to add myself here as well. I am embarassed that a sister of mine feels that this is appropriate behavior, with or without her letters on. I respect my letters a lot, just as most of us here do, and it just really bothers me to see something I am proud of represented in this light. I'd like to apologize for my sister, and I hope she realizes her behavior was wrong, and that coming to "offend everyone and anyone" really isn't the right attitude to have. :(

Dionysus 06-14-2003 07:27 PM

I don't know what you heard about me
But a bitch can't get a dollar out of me
No Cadillac, no perms, you can't see
That I'm a motherfucking P-I-M-P

^

Is there anyone who cannot this out of their mind since reading this thread?

Dani, I went to warsh my pants n'at last night, but I didn't have fitty cent. I had to go dahn to the corner where the bowling alley used to be. :p :p :p

Oh, and this old lady who remembers when Peter Piper was a whole song, not a sample ;) likes Nelly better than 50 Cent.

I just wanted to say that I think you're very classy :)

astroAPhi 06-15-2003 12:52 AM

I know that not all of you darling Phi Mus think this way. At some point in time I think someone from every organization has said something inappropriate, but we realize that people from all orgs come from different backgrounds and maybe aren't well... very proper, sometimes. Hell, I've said some dumb things before.

Perhaps we should just delete this thread anyway. The point's been made, and no one seems to really give too big of a crap about 50 cent anyway. :p

Side note

That rap song out now that goes:

I know I can, I know I can
Be what I want to be, be what i want to be
If I work hard today, if I work hard today
I'll be where I want to be, I'll be where I want to be

For once that's the most classy rap song I've ever heard. I think it's by a famous artist too. Sometimes I get so annoyed listening to some rappers' songs about rape, drugs, etc that a clean song about having dreams and working for them just makes me feel a little bit better about 10 yr olds aspiring to do something besides sipping alcohol and doing drugs

Nas says some amazing things!!!

Another thing...as far as regional, the people I know would say and write it fiddy, not fitty.
