Phi Mu Songs
Hey Ladies,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I am, but I am anxiously awaiting the fall for recruitment! I can't wait! I know this topic has been mentioned before, but I thought I'd get things going again... esp. with summer workshops in progress. What are some of your (or your chapter's) favorite Phi Mu songs? My chapter is still relatively young (Est. 1999) and I am trying to start a collection of songs. Some of my favorites are: P-P-P-P-with an H... Oh won't you come back? I sailed to each sorority... Phi Mu Castle Linger What are some of the songs your chapter uses? I'd really love to be able to introduce some new songs to our chapter. Love in our bond! |
oh goodness, I have lists and lists of Phi Mu songs, but I have no clue where my binder is right now lol...
I'm the music/greek sing director for my chapter so I'm the one everyone comes to for info. Our chapter is really musically gifted so we're able to fancy things up with harmonies and such- at state day, we just did parts just like we normally do, and the other chapters were blown away. I've heard of Phi Mu Castle and Linger: always wanted to learn them, only one girl in our chapter knows them though and we can't get people to settle down to learn them. For recruitment, I love Badoom Badoom. "With A P" drives me up the wall- we can't stay together b/c we're lined up in a stairwell and no one can hear one another. You can't go wrong with sisters though. It gets me every time. Before our Greek Sing performance, each chapter sings a sisterhood/brotherhood song- we sing Sisters and I nearly started to cry. I'm gonna have to find those binders b/c I have a book from nationals and other chapters :) |
We never sang Phi Mu Castle :( I keep hearing about it though, as it seems to be a favorite of many chapters.
The main songs/chants that we did... With a P, with a P, with a P-H-I, etc. Linger Sisters I am embarrassed to say that I can't remember the names of the other main songs we sang. I am sitting here humming them as I am typing but I can't remember titles!! |
at our pref nite our alum sing phi mu castle...(alum can talk, just not directly to the girls at our school) but the song is really pretty, we just dont have sisters that can sing it!
|
Sisters?
When ya'll refer to "Sisters" are you talking about the song that goes
"Sisters of Phi Mu, shall I tell you how I feel?..." LIOB! |
Re: Sisters?
Quote:
"Sisters are the chains that allow me to be free Sisters are the mirrors that let me see in me They are half of my heart, they are worth far more than gold They are kind they are true, they're my sisters in Phi Mu..." It goes on from there- I always thought it was universal throughout Phi Mu chapters. I know that chapters have the tendency of singing it differently, but the lyrics are the same. |
does anyone else sing "I love Phi Mu"? It's got to be my alltime favorite. we also sing "Sisters" and Picture a Girl" and "Are you a Phi Mu?" alot.

Picture A Girl goes like this:
Picture a girl of beauty rare Picture a girl, so sweet and fair Dressed in a gown of rose and white Radiant in the candlelight Frame it an inspiration true Then let it fill the heart of you A picture of Phi Mu girls t'will be A sister for you and for me And I don't know if this is the Are You a Phi Mu? that she is talking about but here it is: Are you a Phi Mu? Yes I'm a Phi Mu Those three bright stars are beckoning me I'm glad to meet you I smile to greet you So pledge our fraternity If you're from Mississippi, Tennessee or Caroline North or South or West of the Mason-Dixon line If you're a Phi Mu, hooray for Phi Mu For we are Phi Mus toooooooo... I'm a Phi Mu and proud of it I wear my colors rose and white, ROSE AND WHITE! Ours is the spirit that will never die! Come on and shout it to the sky! We've got the vigor and vitality, personality you bet We are the TOP, cream of the CROP The rest are far below us, Phi Mu will always be the best P, P, P with a H, H, H, H with an I I with a M, M with a U, GO PHI MU! I apologize if some of the smaller words aren't exactly right, I think everyone does it slightly differently. I'd love to hear Sisters... we don't sing that one. |
Carolina~ the words to "are you a phi mu" are right!
I love Phi Mu: I love Phi Mu my sisters true mm I love Phi Mu I love Phi Mu my sisters true mm I love Phi Mu Got along without ya before i met but i can't do without ya now Phi Mu's the best in everyway just let me show ya how We've got the looks we've got the poise we're full of laughter we're full of joys Phi Mu's the best in every way and we always say I love Phi Mu my sisters true mm I love Phi Mu (and you repeat) Sisters: Sisters are the chains that allow me to be free Sisters are the mirrors that let me see me they are half of my heart they are worth far more than gold they are kind they are true they're my sisters in Phi Mu though miles may come between us though our paths may drift apart we've got a bond between us that keeps us sisters at heart they are half of my heart they are worth far more than gold they are kind they are true they're my sisters in Phi Mu sisters are the friends that are with me when i'm sad sisters are the laughter that makes me feel so glad you are half of my heart you are worth far more than gold you are kind you are true you're my sisters in Phi Mu |
Let me ask everyone a question... in your chapter what do yall use for your chant?? when we went to conference in jacksonvillle we sang ours for the girls from GA tech and they had never heard it before.. so i was wondering what yall did for your chant...
ours is like this.... AHHHHH...... We're number one best under the sun everyone can tell cause we raise hell you know who, we're Phi Mu we also do boom boom a lot different than most chapters! boom boom phi mu, boom boom phi mu, boom boom phi mu, boom boom got along without ya before I had ya boy ya ought to see me now got a group of sisters with a bond so true boy you ought to see me now repeat boom boom.... we also do a not so "lady like" thing with our hands, thats what makes it so different from everyone elses... so I wont post it, if you wanna know PM me its actually kind of funny.. |
we did a simple chant
yell P--P! Yell H--H! Yell I--I! M--U, Phi Mu! |
Our Chant
Here is the chant we use the most....
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HEY! We're the best, thats no lie We'll be sisters till we die! Saw the rest, pledged the best. Phi Mu all the way! Hey! liob |
Our chapter sings "Picture a Girl" and "Phi Mu Castle." I've never heard of a song called "Sisters," but I plan on finding it for the fall. :) "Linger" gets used during recruitment.
As for cheers...we use "With a P", "Badoom badoom", "Are you a Phi Mu", and a brand-new one (to my pledge class, anyway) that's been really hard to learn for recruitment called "I will be T-R-U-E" (I think). It goes: I will be T-R-U-E true to P-H-I-M-U Phi Mu And I will L-O-V-E love her just as you will D-O do And if you want F-U-N fun she is the O-N-E the one...! And you will find your jolly times have B-E-G-U-N begun! Anyone else do that one? |
Our chapter loves to sing "Linger" and "Phi Mu Castle". And our chant goes like this...
5-4-3-2 Give a cheer for dear Phi Mu P-H-I P-H-I P-H-I-M-U Phi Mu! Much Phi Mu love!!! |
P to the P to the P-H-I
M to U to the MU PHI MU! Like it like it , love it, love it, phi mu till i die!:) |
delta beta checking in
My fav our house does is smile pep, but during rush we always do "Follow Me" I believe it's by John Denver and goes like this
Follow me where i go, what i do and who I know. Make it a part of you to be a part of me, follow me up and down all the way and all around, take my hand and say you'll follow me. It's long been on my mind you know it's been a long, long time, I'll try to find the way that I can make you understand the way I feel about you and just how much I need you to be there where I can talk to you when there's no one else around. See I'd like to share my life with you, and show you things i've seen places where i'm going to and places where i've been, to have you there beside me and never be alone and all the time that you're with me, we will be at home Follow me where i go, what i do and who I know. Make it a part of you to be a part of me, follow me up and down all the way and all around, take my hand and say you'll follow me. |
a little lambda gamma action for ya
our chant:
(first we'd stick our hands in the middle, like you would for a cheer if you played on a soccer team, and start out screaming -- "aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH....") highty tighty God almighty who the hell are YOU? flim flam hot damn I'M A PHI MU! we did "With a P, With a P," but we did it like this: With a P, with a P, with a P-H-I With a M, with a Mu, with a Mu, Phi Mu With a P-H-I-Phi-Mu-Phi-Mu, Phi Mu, that's us! Like it, like it, like it, love it, love it you and I, I'm a Phi Mu stay a Phi Mu Phi Mu till I die. We will hold our Phi Mu banner high! (repeat) also: We are the Phi Mus, proud of it too We are the best girls at VCU Phi Mu, Phi Mu fraternity We're the best in our history da da-da da da da-da-da." |

My chapter sings this one! :) We also sing Linger during recruitment, With a P, La-Di-Da, and some others for recruitment. My personal favorite is Got Along, we use it for pref day and then we always sing it just informally too and speed it up. The way we sing it is: Got along without you before I met you but I can't live without you now Phi Mu's the best in every way, just let me tell you how We've got the looks We've got the poise We're full of laughter And full of joys We've got that smile That winning way I vow with you I'll always stay.... I love Phi Mu my sisters true, oooooh I love Phi Mu I love Phi Mu my sisters true, oooooh I love Phi Mu I looooooove Phi Mu My sisssssssters true Oooooohh I love Phi Mu! (snap, snap) When we had a lot of nationals people here they tried to teach us Phi Mu Lady, and we learned it but my chapter HATES HATES HATES that song. :) |
Fab~ we call your "got along" "i love phi mu"....i had no idea chapters had different names for the same songs.
|
Hi Girls! Thought I'd throw some more songs in here!
We don't know Phi Mu Castle or Picture a Girl at PhiKappa, though I learned them at Convention last year and they bring tears to my eyes! I love them!!! We sing Sisters so friggin' much it gets on my nerves, though! And let's see...for our chant to open meetings we use: Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! 5 4 3 2 Give a cheer for Phi Mu! Love, honor, truth and fun That's what makes us number1 Phiiiiiiiiiiii MU! ~On Serenading Night we sing Pass It On (We use that for candle passings too) It only takes a spark to get a fire going And soon all those around will warm up to it's glowing. That's how it is with Phi Mu love, Once you've experienced it. We spread our love to everyone We want to pass it on. (It goes on from there...) ~We also do Badoom Badoom (with the two parts) during Rush. And Won't you Come Back. But two sisters in my chapter came up with a chant to the Coca-Cola Song that I love: The sun will always shine, The birds will always sing Wherever there is fun There's always the real thing We love our Phi Mu sisters They're always the ones. Wherever there is fun There's always Phi Mu Sisters Doo doo doo doo doo Always Phi Mu sisters! ~Then the pledge class this year came up with this one, to the tune of Land of 1000 Dances: We're not number 5, not number 4, number 3, number 2 We're number 1! Why are you so blue? Is it because you're not Phi Mu?? We're number 1!!! ~Then there's always the Garter song that we're very proud of ;-) ~And we do P-P-P to the H.... ~And With a P with a P with a P-H-I ~And a call and response: I don't know but I've been told (repeat as a response) Phi Mu Girls are as good as gold I don't know but it's been said Phi Mu girls are a step ahead Sound Off (1, 2) Sound Off (3, 4) Bring it on down! (P H I M U...PHI MU!!!) And then there's this one that one sister use dto do..I wish there were more words but it's awesome, another call/response Ah-dee-ayee, Ah-dee-oohh (repeat as response) Wiggly, wiggly, waddlie oh (repeat) Raise your heads up to the sky (repeat) 'Cause Phi Mu is walkin' by (repeat) [We always liked doing that one as we walked by frat houses ;-)] ~~If anyone wants more lyrics or tunes, just PM me!!! |
......... oh, wow, I'd forgotten "Pass it On..." makes me cry just thinking about it......
|
Oooh, that John Denver song reminded me...We added two "real" songs to our Pref my senior year....One was from Hope Floats called "To Get Me to You" by Lila McCann and it was SOOOO beautiful.
Well I, I still can remember times When the night seemed to surround me I was sure the sun would never shine on me And I, I thought it my destiny To walk this world alone But now you're here with me Now you're here with me And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to get through To get me to you To get me to you Well I, I still can recall the days When I had no love around me Makes me glad for every day I have with you And I, I look in your eyes and know I'm right where I belong And I belong with you Always belonged with you And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to go through To get me to you To get me to you And if I could I wouldn't change a thing Wouldn't change a thing baby Because your love was waiting there for me Waiting there for me baby And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to get through To get me to you To get me to you This song makes me cry, because it really hits the nail on the head for our chapter for how much we have to work to stay afloat, but it's all worth it in the end. And the other one we added was by a contemporary Christian singer....Geoff Moore and the Distance. Sorry, had a brain fart there. And it's called If You Could See What I See. There were only 2 references to G-d in it, but those can easily be tweaked to say Phi Mu or "my sisters" or something. All of my life I have dreamed that somehow love would find me. Now I can't believe you're stan-ding here. If beauty is all in the eye of the beholder then I wish you could see the love for you that lives in me. And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a trea-sure's what you are, if you could see what I see; Created to be the only one for me; If you could see what I see I know there are days when you feel so much less than ideal Wondering what I see in you It's all of the light and the grace Your belief in me drives me to say That I promise you a faithful love forever true And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a treasure's what you are, if you could see what I see; Created to be the only one for me; If you could see what I see Then you'd understand why I fall down to my knees; And I pray my love will be worthy of The One who gave His life so our love could be. And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a treasure's what you are, If you could see what I see; You're created to be the perfect one for me If you could see what I see If beauty is all in the eye of the beholder then I Am beholding true beauty. Sorry, I was just reminded of those songs and wanted to share. |
That sounds like a really sweet song... although I'm curious as to why you feel the need to censor the word God... lol
|
I always loved doing our chant. We do it right after initiation when it's dark, and it scares the mess out of the new Sisters. We start with our fists in the air and bring them down at the end of "AHHHHH!" Here it is:
AHHHHHHHHH! We're the best That's no lie We'll be Sisters 'till we die Forget the rest Try the best PHI MU!! HELL YEAH!! (Fist up on "Phi" down on "Mu", same with "Hell Yeah") I just always have loved that! And I also love Linger and the Sister song our chapter uses. |
Censored a) to make it be about Phi Mu b) becasue we didn't want to have a religious slant to it.
|
we all need to hang out at convention and chant until our heads fall off.
I like to chant. |
From what ive read we've combined two of the chants on here...
AHHHHHHHHH! We're the best That's no lie We'll be Sisters 'till we die Forget the rest Join the best Kappa Pi 5,4,3,2 Give a cheer for Phi Mu P-H-I P-H-I P-H-I M-U Phhhiiiii Mu Ohhhhh Yeah (hell yeah if we are feeling fiesty) i was wondering, and I hope this isn't like confidential info about recruitment, but what kind of songs do yall sing for skit night.... if yall sing at all that is..... |
it's not confidential. My understanding is pretty much nothing until pref night is confidential -- and even that isn't strictly so, because after all, you are sharing it with women who are not pledged to Phi Mu.
all the same, we don't seem to discuss pref night specifics on this board, by some sort of mutual unspoken agreement. |
ha. And to actually answer the question...
my collegiate chapter doesn't have skit night. The five sororities on campus (ASA, Tri Sigma, AGD, Phi Sigma Sigma, and us) are DRASTICALLY different. ASA has the only house. Tri Sig and Phi Mu vie for most girls each year (until the last 2 yrs Tri Sig had 'em; the last two we've had 'em.) AGD is smack in the middle on basically everything. Phi Sigma Sigma was down to 4 girls at one point. Anyway, point being, in the interest of making things more "fair," panhellenic canceled any use of skits, dropped the monetary cap to something incredibly low, and limited the use of chants, since the smaller groups aren't as impressive in the volume department. |

Re: Our Chant

Quote:
We're the best That's no lie We'll be Sisters 'till we die "saw the rest pledged the best" phi mu all the way-- |
Our rush chair came up with a new chant this year. It goes:
We're goin' down down baby down down to phi mu boom boom baby thats where we're going to p-h-i-mu where the sisterhood is true p-h-i-mu you're gonna love it too! We also did baby got back as one of our open house songs and the PNMS LOVED IT! Also, Linger goes: Mm mm I want to linger Mm mm a little longer Mm mm a little longer here with you Mm mm it's been a perfect night Mm mm it doesn't seem quite right Mm mm that we should have to bid adieu Mm mm But if you go Phi Mu Mm mm you'll be our sister too Mm mm and join our bond so strong and true Mm mm and as the years go by Mm mm we'll all look back and sigh Mm mm it was goodnight and not goodbye |
Re: ???

That's filled with treasures old Of days I've spent with you my dear Phi Mu. I would not trade my castle for a million filled with gold For mine is far the richest of them all. Its windows sparkle and reflect The sunshine from within Each doors wide open to each true Phi Mu And if you have seen it too, then may I walk with you, Up the trail To my castle Of Phiiiiiiiii Mu. |
There's a song I've heard someone in our chapter mention called "Collection of Boys". Does anyone know how that goes?
Thanks! |
Any one know "Thank God I'm a Phi Mu" to the tune of "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" My chapter of Initiation sang it and I want to teach it to the chapter that I spent most of college with and work with now.
