Any KD colonies out there?
Hey I was just reading about KKG going to Harvard (starting a chapter there) and I was just wondering if we have any colonies about the US? I mean I KNOW we have to have at least one somewhere, but I was just curious. Also, I was looking at the national list of chapters and I saw that we don't have a chapter in Massachusetts at all, as well as Nevada, New Mexico (western states). I was thinking it'd be soooo cool if alumnae who live around there now could help establish chapters, you know to get some great KD girls there to spread the KD love! Especially in Mass. That's where I plan on moving after college (Boston that is) and I'd most definitely like there to be a chapter there to help out with. Anyway, sorry for my babbling, I'm just a bit curious.

Expansion is a HUGE process.
KD's colonization process isn't long- basically the length of the new member period. This past year, we colonized at Arizona State University, University of the South (Sewannee, TN), and Wright State University (in Ohio). We have a lot on slate for next year, with at least one confirmed colony starting at the University of North Florida. It's not as easy as a bunch of alumnae picking a school, and saying "hey, let's start a KD chapter here". The way it usually happens is one of the following: 1) an established Greek system is getting large, and wants to bring in another house, 2) a local sorority wants to go national, 3) a campus is forcing all of its local sororities to go national There's a huge long process that has to be gone through-national officers make presentations, alumnae do get involved, etc. Check out some of the threads in the Rush forum, especially those of WishinHoping- great stories that REALLY outline the process. I'd love more chapters in New England. It's not an area that's strong for KD. It's also not an area where Greek life is predominant- there are many schools without greek systems at all. Hope this helps! Definately check out some of the other threads, you can really learn a lot on GC. |
Thanks much for the info!!

Just to add a little to Dani's reply...
I'm the president of the AA here in Phoenix and I can tell you that the expansion process is definitely not influenced by the alumnae. We've been wanting the chapter back for some time, and HQ makes that decision on their own. We also had very little input in the whole recolonization process; we're invited to a few events and that's about it. To get a chapter started you've really got to talk to the school's greek life office and KD HQ, alumnae don't really factor into the equation at all. LJ :) |
Hello KD sisters,
I go to the University of North Florida and all the chapters there are looking forward to having a new chapter on campus. Congrats on the colonization!! |

This is almost on topic. Our president from last year was chosen to be a CDC and one of the CDC's leading the colonization at BU this next year!

That, and I REALLY can't believe how long ago I started this thread. It was so early in my KD days. :) |
I'm in the new KD at Boston U! (If you couldn't tell from my name, haha). I really love it, we're getting geared up for formal recruitment here. The chapter is really coming together very well, our CDCs got us started in the right direction and everyone here is super enthusiastic.
|
I'm thrilled to hear that BUgrrrl. Good luck with your 1st recruitment. I know you'll do well.
|
My sisters and I were just talking about BU last night! We're so excited for you guys...good luck with recruitment!!!

Yay! We need more KD in new england!!

Ooh, we're just about to hit the Thetas. I wonder which school will be the first.
I pledged when we were about in the middle of the Epsilons, though between then and now, quite a few older chapters were reopened, too. |

Hey everyone, KD is colonizing at GW in the Fall of 2012! I have read a lot of the colonization threads, but I will be a senior next year and was wondering if I can colonize as a senior? Does anyone have tips/information that would be of use? I really appreciate it!
|
You can only try. If you sit on the sidelines because you are a senior you have a zero percent chance of joining the new colony. Unlike traditional recruitment, colonies want a variety of ages or else they will have one huge class in a few years who will all graduate at once and no one to carry on. The seniors who join at the beginning create openings for new freshmen the following year upon their graduation. Good luck!

Thank you DaffyKD, I will definitely give it a shot! Any ideas on whether I should highlight my interest in a leadership position during the interview process?

Nobody's posted yet that we're officially colonizing at Virginia Commonwealth in 2014!
|
And the first Theta chapter is... Quinnipiac. Yay, Connecticuties. Kennesaw State will be Eta Omega.
|
What will Washington University be?
|
Wash U hasn't been decided yet in case we get any other spring colonies. The fall colonies installation dates have been set, so they have been able to assign the chapter names.
