GC SigKap Paddle Pass!
 

Oh oh oh, I just had a faaaabulous idea!!!!! It'll only work for those of us that aren't squeamish about giving out our mailing address to a sister. This is my thought:

We'll all use our user name (I'll use DA126, for example)... Everyone needs to post whether or not they want to participate. We'll find a sister that doesn't want to do it (or if we all do, another GCer or 3rd party we all trust). We'll give all the user names & corresponding mailing addresses to the 3rd party. Third party writes them on papers, makes out a list of everyone, and draws names out of a hat to match with people on the list. That way we all have someone to make a paddle for and someone to recieve a paddle from. I know i looooove making paddles and I think this is a wonderful idea. I hope I explained it well.. Basically, in the end, we'll all have a new paddle from a GC Sister... All in favor, say AYE!!

I so want to do this girls, but unfortunately, lack of resources won't let me.. I hope we can do this again though, and next time I'll be sure to do it! I think it's the best idea any of us have had!!!

ps - who do we gives names and addies to? i can't do the whole student life office cuz i'm an alumnae.

I think we're going to PM them to SigKapAlumWSU, but I think we should wait for at least a little longer to make sure everyone that wants to be in on it can be....Not everyone checks GC as often as we all do ;)... For all we know, we could do it end up leaving out Dove Gal, UFSigKap, or anyone else!!! Give it a few more days, and then we'll start the ball rolling. :)

Alright kiddies, here's the idea:

Send the following information to SigKapAlumWSU via PM:

-- GC Name or Real name (whatever you're comfortable with, but if you do send your real name, make sure you send your GC name with it!).
-- Mailing address where you will want your paddle sent.
-- Any information you think might be pertinent to your paddle (IE. School, Pledge class, !!!CHAPTER!!!, nickname, etc).


Ladies, please try to send it in a timely fashion...I say we give anyone else one more week to reply (until 6/20), and then we get or seceret-paddle-santas....;) So, that said, 6/20 is the deadline to send your info to SigKapAlumWSU. I haven't straightend out the final details with her yet, but the assumption is that she will write down the people that want to participate, draw names from a hat, and pass along the information of the person we've drawn.

This should be a lot of fun!!

I would love to do this, but I need to save some money right now....Maybe I just need more time to think about this. give me about 3 more days.

I would just like to clarify: Whether you send your real name or not, you MUST include your GC name - - not everyone knows everyone by name!! :D

i sort of figure that b/c i sign my real name and i was sending a private message from my alphaiota screenname, i was covering all bases. was i wrong?

nickname (if you have one)
your pledge class (ex: Fall '98)
chapter name
other info (interests, fave color, etc...)

Ladies, the paddle info has been PMed to you all. The PM includes all the info that I was given by each of you, and I think there is enough to make a wonderful paddle for each of you. I'm so sorry that I was so late in getting names out, I just got internet back.

Anyway, have fun with these guys, and when you get your paddle, post them up here! We want to see all the creative work that goes into them!

hey ladies! check out greek 101.com for paddles as well. i was just looking and they have the same size paddles as paddletramp for less $. the only problem is the one i wanted to get was the 13" and you have to buy those in lots of 6. so if people want to go in on it.......just a thought. a

Just recieved another unexpected bill - - for over $200!!!!! :o :mad: In light of this, I'd like to propose having the paddles sent by Aug 1. We can send them any time before that, but that is the absolute latest. Anyone disagree?

Aug. 1st sounds good to me.
the zip code thing is something i will have to check out. i like to visually set everything up before i actually glue it/buy it.

I reallllly don't want to keep pushing this back, but I just got my hours cut at work...I'm still gonna bust my ass to get it done by Aug 1, but if not, please don't hate me!! :( :p

so i finally have a job which means as soon as i get a paycheck i'll be able to get my paddle stuff. i'm actually thinking of doing a more interesting type of paddle. someone is going to be very surprised.... :p ;)

So ladies ... I know im just the weird random girl on the board. But I wanted to ask how everyone GOT their paddles, cause I know lots of chapters do it differently. Like who you got them from, when you got them, and any other special things about them!


Well as I have prob-ly said a million times ... my chapter has their NMs pick "moms" while they are pledging (and they are seperate from bigs). We each recieve a paddle made for us by our mom's on initiation day. Traditionally they say your name in the middle, the top says your pledge class and the bottom says who its from. Oh and of course almost ALL of them are tied with a wire ribbon ... lol people spend HOURS with curling iorns and such just to make the ribbon look perfect ;)

Come on!! I wanna hear stories about my sisters!!!

Edit: Oh yea! Our mom's get pillows from their daughters on initiation day too!

we give our bigs paddles on our initiation day as a kind of thank you. you can put whatever you want on them. i made my big a big paddle. i have 2 littles so i have two. a medium and a big one and i love them both! my great grand little made me a tiny paddle that's says "i heart ggb" i thought it was sooooo cute! and i was totally surprised! i'm obsessed with the "mary low" family ;)

We had a paddle exchange night as part of I-week where bigs and littles (my chapter called them mom and dot back in the day) exchange paddles. I have a paddle from my mom (big) and a paddle from my dot (little). My great grandma (great gran big) made me a mini paddle when I was pledging. I also have a paddle that my new members made for me when I was VPNME.

We also had a paddle exchange during I-Week. It used to be a Pillow/Paddle exchange. Traditionally, the Lil's gave the bigs paddles and the Bigs gave the lil's pillow. But in the past few years, people have steered away from pillows entirely. I got mine from my lil druing her I-week, and I have a pillow from my big sis from my own I-week.

Edited to Add: I'm still waiting on Paddle's from both of my Lil B's, but I'm not holding my breath!

okay, so it's aug. 1st and i still don't have mine done. i haven't even been able to get the stuff to make it. let alone find time to actually do it. i'm working about 10hrs a day most days and trying to spend time with my parents and my man. sort of sucks living in the same house as my father, but going for two whole days without seeing him b/c we are always missing each other.

but anyhow, i get paid this week and after i take care of my bills i'll try to get this paddle thing taken care of. i havent' forgotten, i've just been poor and busy. sorry!

I think you girls should take as long as you need. I mean its not like you dont WANT to do it ... if that was the case you wouldnt have signed up. Im sure everyone will eventually get theirs done and send them out. SO basicly I dont think we really need a deadline ... when you can get them done, get them done ...

but then again others might not feel that way ... but thats my oppinion :D

I have to admit, time has been hard to find to make a paddle. But when I get back to school, I will be able to make one, esp. with all the greek shops around! To whoever is passing to me, I hate to be a pain, but my address is changing b/c I am going back to school. I will get it out to you in a few days!
