The above hyperlink will take you to an AKA badge that is for sale on EBay. The person who has bid on it I know is NOT a member of AKA. They have bid on many other GLO pins, including my own org.

I hope one of you can get it. Maybe you can return it to your Nationals or hold onto it.

I tried bidding but I am not registered with Ebay.

I informed some sorors of the situation and they are just as unhappy about the situation as I am. Those pins should only be in the hands of sorors.

Has anyone tried contacting the people selling the pins to see where they got them?
I agree they are too precious and should be in the hands of sorors!

FYI, I don't know who checked, but this person selling your pearls, tcelano@ismi.net, on ebay is selling a bunch of sorority and fraternity pins that I am sure would anger plenty of greeks.

He also has masonic pins.

I think someone should send the link to Nationals to alert them on this.

I think that is a good idea, Pink Passion. If a non-greek has it, the only comfort I have is that they don't know the "rules" about the use of the pin.

If you alert AKA national office about this, please have them contact the NPC office in Indianapolis. The NPC has been working together with the NIC and eBay on this issue which concerns all GLOs.

You can click on the links that SoCalGirl was so generous to provide. The first one has been sold already for $45. The second one still has 1 day and 4 hours left for bids. Some by the name of "akatude" has bid $70 and that is where it stands at the moment.

Thanks, Soror Moderator! I went to both links, and was disappointed that one pin appears to have been sold to someone outside AKA. Hopefully a soror and/or the international body can purchase the remaining pin. Though my budget is tight, I would be willing to go in with other sorors to buy it and send it back to headquarters. Sorors, if you are interested in this idea, please email ASAP!

I have emailed Executive Operations at corporate headquarters to alert them to this activity. I hope we can put a stop to this soon!

Soror LadyAKA, I agree with you. I honestly don't know what our corporate office can do. However I, too, will write my director for the SAR and express my concerns. The sale of our history book bothers me as well since it is not available for public consumption.

Although the message regarding our Sorority pin was to alert us and no harm was meant but if anyone else has information regarding the sale of our pins or history books, etc., please let our moderator know this in private. It would be detrimental if someone outside of the Sorority got a hold of these items, not only someone outside of the Sorority like that one that bought several other fraternal organization items, but perps whose main purpose is to have an opportunity in getting their hands on anything to try to "prove" their so-called membership. I am sure the person that purchased the one pin has no idea who AKA is or what she stands for.

Again, thank you for everyone's concern, but some things, in particular, what we consider sacred to our Sorority, are best left private and discreetly handled.

We can bid collectively on these pins 'BUT' that is draining our own funds and I understand that it is for the good of our beloved sorority but we can't continue on like this. These pins are getting out there and we can't bid on each one, I for one don't have money like that. This problem was discussed on the Vine a couple of weeks ago and now we have two more pins out there!

National needs to make some demands on past and present sorors and then maybe they need to get a hold of ebay and make sure these precious items never make it to the site. I am going to try and get a letter out to the NAR Director and hopefully she can forward it on to the proper people at Headquarters, I will also include the information that PnguinTrax has left for us.

As a non-member, I think PinkPassion08 makes a good point. Think also about the 'message' that you are sending the opportunist who purchase collectibles at garage sales, etc. only to sell them at a much higher price. Once they see the bidding war that goes on for the items, they will continue to seek them out because they realize their is a market for them. Black collectibles increased in popularity in the 80s and there for the prices increased. I think LadyAKA was correct in stating that the proper place to start is not with the Ebay folks, but with the members of the organizations so that they can make plans for their pins, books etc. at their passing.

Also, have you considered that when you bid you are probably bidding against another member and therefore just increasing the auctioner's profits. I wonder if there is a way to tell who is bidding on a particular item? (other than just their 'handle')

If you are a registered user on Ebay.com, you can retrieve the email address of anyone bidding or selling the item. Perhaps this way you could attempt to email them to see if in fact they are a member, or what their interest is in purchasing the pin.

We do have rules that govern the wear abouts of a soror's pin when she is deceased. However, if a soror's pin becomes lost or misplaced while in her possession then there is no rule that can govern that.

AKAtude, I guess the next step would be to make sure that members are sharing that information with their next-of-kin.
