My Beta Experience
 

Hello all!
I thought that I'd start a thread to let everyone know about my journey with Beta Sigma Phi.
I found out about Beta through GC, of course. There were a couple posts by women with strong views and a sweet tone that really impressed me. The letters in the sig file weren't something I recognized from my days of learning NPC sororities, so I decided to look around the Internet.......
WOW!! What I found out about Beta online knocked my socks off! Never did I imagine that there was this wonderful multi-generational sisterhood teeming with love, honor, and excitement right in my very own city!
So, I PM'd Erica812 to see what I could do to find out more. What a good idea on my part! She gave me excellent advice and no sooner did I finish reading her PM, I e-mailed Beta's National membership.
My name is on the list to be called for rush events. It was a few weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything from any of the chapters in my city (Pittsburgh). Right now, I'm just holding my breath, waiting for the call!
Wow....this has been a long post! LOL I will update this thread as more news happens on my quest for Beta sisterhood! :D

I know the wait is hard,but trust me, it's the best thing you can do.

I'm in the same boat as you. So if you need a shoulder to cry on, pm me. I'm going to a rush event in 2 weeks and I will tell all my lovely friends here all about it:D

Are there any chapters in the Pittsburgh Area? I remember talking to AngelPhiSig about starting a chapter but at the time I was too busy.

It great to hear you are interested in "Beta". Have you tried contacting Int'l membership@betasigmaphi.org. or call 1-888-BETA-2B1 (238-2221). Ask for the Friendly Venture (FV) Kit and contact info for the nearest City Council in that area. I hope this info gets you on your way....Please keep us posted. :)

Ahhhh! Im in Pittsburgh! hehe...

Right now Im still stressed on the BSP thing cos we have not recieved any support from International... and my chapter is in the middle of no where (and now has 3 members so basically its like were starting over next year when I will be VERY busy with pre/student teaching and being pres of TBS). I would love to meet some interested women from Pgh / some sisters so I can get some help...

If any PGHers want to get coffee some day and talk BSP... Im all for it...

Friendly Venture is to start a new chapter. BSP stuff is slow right now because the new year does not start until the last week of August

If you don't hear from the local chapters let us know and we'll follow up for you and try to get movement. Be sure we have your phone number because some members don't contact without it. I guess notes are out with technology. I have a good friend who is a member in Pittsburg area and I can get in touch with her for you if you'd like,

However, we only have four chapters who are part of Council. There are at least 3-4 other chapters in the area. I look forward to meeting you soon.:)

Eeeh! Mr. Mox said that a lady called last night, asked for "Kristin" (which I always write my name Kristi N., easy mistake). He said it wasn't a telemarketer, and she said that she would call back. It could very well have been a telemarketer, but I can't help but think it was someone calling about Beta. Yee!!! :D

I hope the call was from a sister and that you'll get a chance to start meeting members and finding a chapter you can belong to. Beta Sigma Phi has added so much to my life and I have friends literally all over the world who are sisters.

Ok, I must suck or something. :( It's been a few months and no one has called me regarding Beta. It seems like this is the time when groups are starting to reorganize, but I haven't heard a peep. :(

I wish I could say that all chapters contact quickly and contact all the names they receive, that isn't the case. If you have not received contact, get in touch with International and tell them you haven't heard from anyone yet and you still want contact and they will be glad to keep after the local members to contact. If you are a prospective member, call membership, if already a member, call your Division Chairman or e-mail either. If you are a prospective member and don't get any response, we have a new program called chapter in a box that can help you set up your own chapter easily! Get in touch with International.

It's not you! Like I've said before, I didn't hear anything for about three months when I was a hopeful Beta-to-be. Unfortunately, some chapters may not be interested in a new member right away. That's unfortunate since a new sister can really bring so much to a chapter. Out of four area chapters, only one called me, and I suspect that was because they saw that I was only 23, and the youngest member around here is around 50 years old. It's a terrible trend, but some chapters rule out the younger gals because they fear that we won't fit into their chapter dynamic.

Please don't give up. It would be a terrible shame to lose you!

We just got a note from my chapter that I did NOT exist! :D
So I gotta fax the note and my card to international when I get to work tonight!

Nah I won't go postal...I was in such a rush that I forgot the stuff I was supposed to fax in the car! I will probably do it on Saturday...when I will be working at the Customer Service Desk!

Sorry that you don't exist!!!ha Sounds similar to my recent experience with International-------I asked for the print out of members on leave, at large and legacy members in my area with the idea of starting a younger chapter. I got the print out and a nice note saying the names circled were really anxious to go active in a chapter. I had quite a chuckle to see MY NAME circled at the top of the list and the message to "call ASAP, she is anxious to find a chapter"!!!
