Dr. Pepper?

It seems whenever I go out of state I have a hell of a time finding Dr. Pepper? What's up with you folks on the coast and your disdane for this drink?

polarpi 06-05-2003 12:56 AM

DP is prevalent here in California...where on the coast (and which one) are you going to?

winnieb 06-05-2003 12:58 AM

I have noticed the same thing--- every time we go to Chicago-- they look at me like I am crazy when I order a DrP.
How can people live without this beverage.

Specifically on the West Coast, I was in Portland, Oregon a couple weeks ago. Couldn't find a DP to save my life.

Head down to the San Diego area....that's all there is out this way (and Mr. Pibb, to a small extent)

cntryZTA5 06-05-2003 01:05 AM

I live in S. California and live on Dr Pepper! Who knows what would happen if my local Costco ran out!

polarpi 06-05-2003 01:10 AM

cntryZTA5-

I don't think Costco can EVER run out of anything...there's just way too much stuff there.....get into trouble with my mom when we go there. There have been times we were proud members of the $600 club! :)

Hootie 06-05-2003 02:04 AM

mmmmm DR PEPPER! Gotta love the Docta!:D

GeekyPenguin 06-05-2003 02:26 AM

Dr. P is everywhere in Wisconsin...

SigkapAlumWSU 06-05-2003 02:54 AM

It's pretty much everywhere on the west side of washington, but I find less of it on the east side, which I hate, because that's where I go to school. But I always have trouble finding diet Dr. Pepper everywhere!

carnation 06-05-2003 08:18 AM

When I first moved to GA over 20 years ago, I got weird looks for ordering DP. Georgia, you see, is the Coke capital.

But...as a native Texan, I *must* have my DP! When the company was first founded, my grandfather was a boy who helped clean the place every night and they would pay him in stock. Good decision on his part!

AlphaSigOU 06-05-2003 08:36 AM

Gonna hafta do a pilgrimage to Waco so's I can get ahold of Dr. Pepper made with REAL sugar (most of the rest of the Dr. Pepper bottlers use corn syrup as the sweetener). Good excuse to go to the Texas Masonic Grand Lodge meeting in December... :)

justamom 06-05-2003 08:44 AM

I'm A Pepper!!!

Gotta have my DDP EVERY day!

Remember this one?

i feel ya on dp. . .as a native texan i miss my comfort foods/drinks living up north in pa. they seem to think that mr. pibb is an equally satisfying replacement. tsk tsk tsk. . .if they only knew!

ZTAngel 06-05-2003 09:17 AM

Mmmmmm....Dr.Pepper. My favorite soda. I've never had trouble finding it in Florida.

xok85xo 06-05-2003 09:20 AM

its pretty rare to find dr. pepper in restaurants in NJ (at least northern nj..don't know about southern)..which i guess is good because its too hard for me to resist, i'm better off not having the temptation..

AOX81 06-05-2003 10:37 AM

Dr. Pepper is practically the only kind of pop/soda that I will drink! I actually had to boycott the Taco Bell near the place where I work because they stopped selling Dr. Pepper. After numerous complaints they brought it back! :) If restaurants don't have DP I will settle for a Mr. Pibb...

A lot of times I find it very hard to find Vernor's. Is Vernor's just a Michigan thing?

Must be, I've never heard of it.

AMEN to DP with pure cane sugar! I went to school 30 minutes away from the only DP plant left in the country that still uses the "real stuff"--in Dublin, TX. Makes all the difference in the world & I won't drink it any other way!

wreckingcrew 06-06-2003 03:41 AM

i'm gonna say ditto to dzandiloo and AlphaSigOU.

A couple years ago, me and a couple bros loaded up the car and took a road trip to Boulder for the A&M football game. We stopped in Dublin because the pledge we were with was telling us about how the Dr. Pepper there still uses real sugar. It was 10X better than the regular Dr. Pepper. On the way back to CS we made sure to stop and pick up a 6 pack each :D

We have plenty of Dr P in Alaska ktsnake...just no snakes!!!

And for the Vernor's...I cannot have ANY other kind of gingerale if I am feeling under the weather. It is Vernors or NOTHING.

nucutiepie 06-06-2003 03:50 AM

I love dr. pepper and diet dr. pepper - but in new england, where I grew up, and in the greater chicago area, where I am now, it just isn't sold at restaurants. I have to go to a convenience store or the supermarket if I want one.

XOMichelle 06-06-2003 05:19 AM

Diet Dr. Pepper is the BEST! I live for it.

ilovemyglo 06-06-2003 09:15 AM

I thought I was the only one!!!
Heehee!
I love Dr Pepper and thankfully it is easily found at restaurants and bars, and everywhere in good ole KENTUCKY!
Damn rednecks know what tastes good!

decadence 06-06-2003 10:19 AM

:p Count yourself lucky! Where I live I can't get Mountain Dew!! Of any type! Dr Pepper is everywhere but no Mountain Dew. They sold it for a while everywhere so I got to like it and now not anywhere!

EagleChick19 06-06-2003 10:39 AM

We do have DP here in PA :)

AZpinkkittie 06-06-2003 10:40 AM

DP Is the only soda I will drink. Thankfully here, it served on fountain everywhere. The best DP is at the taco bell right off campus. They have perfect balance of carbonation and syrup. Mmmmmm, i'm thirsty...

...but really hard to fidn in restaurants. I live off of my Dr Pepper, but always get weird looks when I ask if a restaurant has it. Ever since then, I do what my friends Erin and Carla do (they're from Texas)...and order it from Texas. :D

fire1977 06-08-2003 08:14 PM

This post was like the mother ship calling home, I can't believe you all love the doctor too! lol Two of my sisters and I use to refer to it as the "world's best beverage". I love it but the only place they served it here was taco bell as well. We'd beg people to buy it for sorority events.

sigmanuzk 06-08-2003 10:31 PM

They have it here at the grocery stores, mini-marts and fast food places but never have i found it in a sit down restaurant. An interesting note it is said that one of my relatives from Texas invented the stuff.

alphaiota 06-08-2003 10:58 PM

i grew up in pa and never really noticed if they had DP or not. my family drank either coke or mountain dew.
now that i'm out here in ohio i either drink mt dew or dr. p.
i need my caffine fix here! (as i take big ol swig of dew)

Aw, here it is 11:30 at night, and after reading this thread, I am so wanting a Dr. Pepper! Then of course, I'll be up even later than usual! DP is my daily morning cup of caffeine, and my afternoon pick-me-up!
