Car Accidents
I was 2 or 3, but it was winter. My mom had got out to wipe the car off of snow. I got in the driver's seat; knocked the car in either drive or reverse; ran over a tree; mom had to buy East Cleveland a new tree lawn tree.
I would ask my mother for exact age but she is in the bed; she has to be at work at 6:00a.m. Share your momentous car accidents here.:D |
When I was about 17, I knocked over a street light and totalled a car while I was going to pick up a pizza during a blizzard. I'm just glad I had my priorities in order.
Other than that, I was in a car accident once where an elderly woman blew through a red light and hit me after she had been at the hospital visiting her husband. I went to the hospital (hey, we were right outside!) to get checked out because I hit my head, but I was fine. My poor car, on the other hand, is no more. Edited to add: Oh, I forgot my most recent one. My boy and I were having a big argument and I went out for a random drive at around 3am. I was on the west side of Chicago in the ghetto, and I totally rear ended someone stopped at a light. The guy was really, really nice and told me not to worry about the damage I did to his car. :) |
I got hit by a car going straight in the lane left to me while I was trying to turn left earlier today. Yup, my fault, but it was a badly marked 5-way intersection. Then the cop happens to be an alumni of my school's big rival...
(thanks crimson for sharing!) |
this isn't about me, but my sister had a friend from college who was known for always getting into car accidents. well, one night she hit a pole and knocked the power out in the entire town. from what i heard, everyone knew she was the cause of it as soon as someone said someone hit that pole..

One time I almost side-swiped not one, not two, but THREE cars in one day... it was a bad day :( but thankfully I didn't actually hit any.
|
I'm a bad-driver magnet. :(
- Turned into a gas station to fill up my rental before returning it. Some jack@$$ driving a hotel shuttle picked an inopportune moment to open the door. He flagged down a cop and tried to pin it on me  Lucky I had my cell and had already called 911 :p - Got rear ended because I stopped for a school bus. - Hit a patch of black ice and spun out on an exit ramp. Netted a warning ticket for that one and lost my perfect driving record  - Some biatch in an SUV backed halfway across a parking lot into my husband's car, WITHOUT LOOKING... fortunately he caught her trying to flee the scene  - My husband lost control of my car while I was in the suicide seat - ABS ain't all it's cracked up to be  Edited to add: - My husband hit a patch of black ice a few years back and hit a telephone pole. (I wasn't in the car.) Our $26,000 car saved a $500 telephone pole by crumpling first. I was driving the same car last winter when I hit the black ice mentioned above - same point of impact (driver's side rear) - that side of the car has now been replaced twice! |
Been in two.
Was in a really bad one the day before high school graduation - two of my windows exploded, my car got thrown a bit (and it was a station wagon, that lets you know how big the crash was). Thank God I wasn't hurt. The second wasn't so bad, a fender bender, but boy do those accidents suck. |
My mom was driving in Lake George with the three girls. I have two younger sisters. A priest hit us. He was nice and blessed us. No one was hurt thank God. :)
|
I ran into my folks garage door. egad.:o
small hijack I read an recent article about bad driving habits and it said that 14% of people admitted to READING behind the wheel. *cough*CT4*cough* J/K |
Quote:
LMAO!! I never read behind the road. I glance at my directions or what not, but never reading a book. I wait til I am home or waiting somewhere. :) |

Strangely enough, the WORST accident I've ever been in actually wasn't my fault. This girl I used to be friends with in HS was driving us in her Montero down a gravel road going about 75 and she was swerving from one side of the road to the other. Needless to say, the car spun out of control and rolled three times into a beanfield! I had a shattered wrist (it was gross my whole arm turned a horrid shade of black and purple, yech!), thousands of brusies, cuts all over my arms, legs, and face, a concussion, and gravel stuck in my head from the sunroof being open and my head hitting the ground. Youch, now THAT was a bad wreck. |
Back at home, my neighborhood has a huge metal gate at the exit of the neighborhood. I had just gotten my drivers license and I was still trying to perfect my driving skills. I was coming up to the gate and I didn't slow down enough. I hit the gate.
For 6 hours, nobody could get out of the neighborhood because I thrown the gate off track and they couldn't get it to open. The worst part.....I did a hit and run. As soon as I hit the gate, I threw the car in reverse and drove back home. I did almost get caught when my father got home and asked why the front of the car had scrapes on it. I acted all innocent so he just figured someone probably hit it in a parking lot. To this day, nobody knows that it was me who locked everyone in the neighborhood for 6 hours. |

when i was 18, (summer of 2000) i was riding home with my sister and best friend from church. we were in my friend's dad's truck. while we were approaching this intersection, i was fiddling with this tape recorder cause we had taped the night's church service. i was looking down when i suddenly heard my friend make this gut wrenching scream. my head shot up just in time to see her t bone this car that was making this left turn. we hit the car right in the passenger side. the truck we were in did a 180 degree turn. the air bags came out and we were stuck in the truck cause the door jammed. the smell of burnt rubber and gas filled the air. due to the small size, the car that we hit was totaled. my friend, my sister, and i were able to kick the doors open. that is when we saw the car that we hit. we lost it. there was a guy in the passenger seat that we found out was a visitor from another country. he died on impact. the driver had a broken leg and rib. how were we? we just got bruises and cuts...lucky us:mad: my friend went through shock, depression, and guilt for what felt like forever and had to fight it in court for the next year. she was found not guilty. it was an experience i will never forget. it happened all because i told my friend to take a certain way home.

<<hugs FAB*SpiceySpice>> I hear ya!
<<hugs Smiley21>> Wow, I can't even imagine that....:( My story starts: I got my lisence Dec.19th Had my 1st accident Jan. 23rd when some random old man runs a red light and lightly brushes my car...very minimal damage (minor paint transfer) and he decides not to report it. I was so scared I was @ fault that I didn't say anything (it was only later that i realized HE had run the red light and would have been @ fault so that's why he didn't want to report it...jerk...) But not to mention I had my boyfriend w/ me and there's a law here that you can't drive with anyone except family for 6mos after getting liscenced...) Had my 2nd accident (kid rear-ended me leaving school while I was stopped at the stoplight) Jan. 24th (day before my 17th b-day) My trunk gets smashed and no longer opens Had my 3rd accident Feb.1st on the highway @ 7am (on my way to school w/ my brother)...wet and rainy morning, car comes flying around a curve in the passing lane and tries to merge into my lane (the travel lane) without taking any notice of me and smashes into my drivers side rear quadrant. (Mind you- I'm going about 55- he was pushing 70) I loose control of the car and go flying across the highway, bounce off the guard rail, go flying back in the other direction and the side of my car hits an overpass abuttment. (If I had hit the overpass 1ft to the left it would have been a head-on collision and I don't think I'd be here today to tell you about it) My car finally comes to a halt and slides back down onto the highway...only it doesn't look like a car anymore...it's a hunk of twisted metal. My brother and I walk out w/ minor bruises and a sprained finger. My 4th accident - Aug. 9th, I'm on my way to a friend's wake and I rear end my best friend as we're both caught up in the kind of "traffic" around the funeral home. I was going less than 15mph when I hit her but my airbags deployed which in turn broke my windshield and totaled the car...the front end damage was so minimal...broken light and twisted lisence plate...I could have driven away if the stupid air-bags didn't deploy! grr...stupid Hyundai! lol....i miss that car :( |
Ah geez...car wrecks. Isht..... here goes
My senior year I rearended some overbearing chain smoking soccer mom. She pitched a hissy, but as it turned out, no damage done to either car. She was just a bitch. A month later I was driving to a volunteer job and got broadsided by a pharmacy delivery truck. Screwed up my car to the tune of $1300. Thank God for insurance. My freshman year of college I got creamed by a campus mail delivery truck (think UPS style truck) in my tiny Mazda. He was totally at fault. I had over $3000 worth of damage, a concussion and a freaking sore back. January I had the mother of all wrecks. Mr. Swissmiss was driving and we lost control at 60 mph, went off the road, off about a 40 ft drop and crashed into a swamp of sorts and hit a tree. Cracked my sternum, separated two ribs, hit my head, burned my face, bruised up the right side of my body, and lost my sense of smell (it's still not 100%). I still have flashbacks and nightmares. But thankfully I've recovered and I have 90% of my upper body strength back. It's been hard and slow, but I'm getting there. |

I have been rear ended twice and also hit a walk/don't walk sign while driving drunk in a monsoon at 3 am. My car used to be purty, now it is not. :( |
Eeek. I've been in 3 major automobile accidents, none of which were my fault. The most serious one was the first accident--in June of 1997. Four close friends of mine and I went out for dinner. We were on the way back to my house when an oncoming car decided to pull a U-turn on a red light. We were already through the intersection when we were hit head-on.
He must have been drunk, because his car was pinned between our car and a concrete island. He then threw his car into reverse, rammed our car several times to push us out of his way, and then left the scene. I have no recollection of this happening because I was knocked unconcious from the first impact. The car was totalled, and all the airbags deployed. I was lucky to walk away with a concussion, whiplash, cuts, bruises, and a golf-ball sized hematoma on my left shin that put me on crutches for a few weeks. Thank God I was wearing my seatbelt. One of my friends didn't wear hers--she hit the metal bars that lift the headrest face-first. Her face was lacerated and she has permanent scars on her forehead now. :( The police found the car that hit us abandoned a few miles away. We never did find out who the driver was--the owner of the car pleaded ignorance. I was rear-ended in the other two accidents. I'd been in physical therapy years and was doing well until about 2 years ago, when my symptoms became suddenly worse. I was diagnosed with trauma-induced fibromyalgia about a year and 1/2 ago. My life has changed tremendously since then. Thank goodness I have wonderful doctors and therapists. With their help, I have done a 180. While I still have bad days, they are much fewer and farther between now. :) |
The last car accident that I was in was in October of 2001. My husband and I were on our way to meet some friends to go to a Detroit Lions game...hey, we got the tickets for free... Anyway, as we are driving along in our Trans Am a Plymouth Voyager decides it's going to try to share the same lane with us and merges over. When the Voyager hit us it sent our car into a curb and it blew out both of the drivers side tires and bent one of the rims...which are not cheap to replace. The passenger side of the car had a huge scrape from the front to back and the mirror was knocked off.
When the tow truck came he didn't realize that our accident required a flatbed truck because of the tire damage. When the flatbed arrived my husband and I cringed as they loaded the car and completely scraped up the front end of the car trying to get it onto the flatbed... |
I was doing one of my in-cars for driving school and I was stopped at a red light and taking my time, being careful before i tried to make a right on red. right before i was about to go I got rear-ended. why? the old lady said that she had already looked to make sure there were no cars coming so she thought she could go.
i got my license on Dec 7. on Dec 12 i ran over my neighbor's mailbox. the father seemed really understanding at first becaus the roads were really slick due to the snow and i had hit an ice patch in front of their house, but they were horrible all year. we couldn't replace it until the ground thawed but by then one of their sons (who happened to be in my grade at school) had been harassing me for 4 months...caling me names whille walking behind me and such and had left me out of the senior section of the yearbook because he was in charge. My dad had to call his parents twice to tell them that they better talk to him about it and his mother ddn't care! she kept telling another neighbor that she was going to call the police on me. |
a few months ago, one of my best friends from high school had her car in the shop (a brand new BMW) and was using a rental car. Later that day she got in an accident and the rental car was TOTALED.
Hmmm.. I guess it's better the rental car got it and not the BMW  On a side note, last night I was talking to one of my sisters and she said traffic was at a STAND STILL on evening. Which didn't sound too odd at first, because in this area, we just come to expect bad traffic... but the stand still traffic was at 1 AM on a Saturday night  Apparently there was a really bad accident involving a couple of 18-wheelers :o Also -- anyone living in south texas, BEWARE!!! My younger biological sister gets her driver's license next month :p |
I've been about 3 fender benders (I used to drive an old mustang and when you take your foot off the brake even the slightest bit, it races forward at like 10 mph) but the worst accident happened just up the street from my house. Iwas driving through the neighborhood and was coming up to an intersection where the crossing traffic has a stop sign, I do not. So I'm driving along and see a car coming up to the stop sign. Expecting him to stop, I kept going, but I guess he figured he was in a hurry and it would be my turn this time. Well, I didn't have time to stop once I saw he was going through and he totalled my car  !! So after he gets out to see if I'm ok, he gets in his car to "move it out of the intersection" and decides that to really make it safe, he should drive down the street and off into the unkown. Jerk!! The cops finally track him down (no license, no insurance, no brain) and schedule him for a hearing, which of course he doesn't go to. Bench warrants don't mean anything. So now I have no car, and $500 in hospital bills. Isn't life grand??
|
AZpinkkittie, if the cops found the guy, shouldn't they have arrested him on the spot? I thought leaving the scene of an accident was an arrest-worthy offense
|
No, it's not. And I think he turned himself in. They give you a court date then you're supposed to show up. Now, if he gets caught for anything else, it will show he has a warrant out for him for not appearing in court, and I will be notified

not a car crash but a bad breakdown story...
I'm driving from Pennsylvania to Washington DC for a job interview. I'm in Maryland and I get on the Balt-Wash parkway and find myself stuck in traffic for 40 miles. My car starts overheating. I finally get off onto New York ave and pull into a hotel parking lot to turn off my car and let it cool down. The car cools down and I get back on NY ave. About a min later I notice my car overheating and it's making loud clunking noises. At that point I knew I was in trouble but I was like two blocks from my interview and I figured if I could get my car to Union Station and park it, I could make the interview. I turn down Florida ave and then miss the turn for NE Capital ave and end up back on NY ave - now lost in DC with a very overhearted car. My car stalls in the middle of a busy intersection. I coax my poor car over to the side of NY ave (I'm in a really ghetto area at this point) and call AAA. Two hours later they show up and take me to an even more ghetto area to get my car repaired (West Virginia ave for those who know DC). Luckily it was just a broken radiator hose and they were able to fix it quickly but I still missed the job interview :( |
January 21, 2002-
Three car loads of Alpha Gams were on their way to do community service in a nearby town that has population like 2000. Anyway, we were about to turn right into a parking lot, the first car was turned and the second car in the process (all 3 had their blinkers on and were in the right hand lane) when a Semi Tractor trailer rear ended the last car (the one that I was in- in the backseat no less) which was almost stopped. The semi was doing 45 and the driver said he "just didn't see" us. Anyway, I was taken to a nearby hospital and I was sore for like 4 weeks solid. I ended up having to drop down to 2 classes, take 12 months of physical therapy and have 3 surgeries. My neck, shoulder and back were all screwed up. Now, I am in the middle of a lawsuit because over and above what the personal injury insurance paid (your auto insurance pays for car accident injuries) of around $10,000 I am out to collections on another $20,000 at least! I had the nerve endings in my C4, C5, C6 and C7 vertabrae burned and I no longer have any sensation in the upper left quadrant of my back (and I never will again). My shoulder has scar tissue inside of it that I have to exercise and keep broken up (my arm will forever make noises! Like SNAP CRACKLE POP!) and I have developed a high tolerance to pain killers and muscle relaxers (you take em for 12 months and see how you do). So Percocet, darvocet and Lortabs along with valium, skelakin and Ultram are all like tylenol's to me. My last surgery they used enough medicine to put me under to put out a 250 lbs. man... and I was just barely medicated... I hate car accidents! |
 I'm suddenly very grateful that none of my or my husband's car accidents resulted in anyone's injury or death. <knock on wood>
I hope that those of you who have been injured recover soon. :) |
My firsr accident I was a passenger. I was In England visiting family and in the backseat. My aunt was driving and pulled onto a Roundabout. f you have ever been in a proper one, all the trafic goes one way,and it is nearly impossible to go the wrong way (you have to make a really big effort to do it wrong!) and an old guy, going the wrong way in the Roundabout, hits us head on. He was so old and out of it, I don't know why he was still driving.
My second one, I was driving my Ford Festiva (tin can on wheels) and hit a deer. The impact was so hard that the radiator came off it's mounting, and the drivers side fender and the door both got crunched up. My third happend finals week this year. I was pulling out of an alley that runs behing my house. To the left is a hill that goes around a blind corner. you have to inch out about 5 times to even see if it's clear, so I do that, and am heading across the street to get a parking space, when a cyclist runs into my truck! There's a big dent right above the rear drivers side wheel and the canopy is all cracked. Now everytime my freinds see someone on a bike, they make fun of me! |
I've never been in an accident where I was driving, except for swiping a support in the carport at my apartment complex. All it did was put some scratches near the headlight and a very slight slight dent.
Only accident I've been in some guy T-boned my mom and I as we were making a left turn. Don't know how the heck he missed a bright red Audi 100, but he claimed he didn't see us. I felt kinda bad for the guy too... he had only had his car for 3 weeks and he didn't even have the title yet. But he really only had some paint missing above the headlight... our entire drivers side was crumpled in, and we had to take the door off to get my mom out (since she's a paraplegic she couldn't crawl over the seats). |
First accident I was in 5th grade and we were in Brooklyn for my cousin's wedding. My parents and I were in the front seat (Lincoln Towncar... it was legal to sit three in the front) and my aunt, uncle, and 2 lil cousins in the back. It was so rainy out and we were on the highway, people were doing prolly like 30-40mph. There were so many accidents that nite. Anyways so we get slammed from the back, pushed into the next lane over and then hit again. The whole trunk was pushed up. The reason we got hit wasn't cuz it was slippery... some guys followed us from the reception hall because they saw the wedding money bag being put in our trunk. They ran from their car and I duno if they ever got caught. Funny tho cuz my dad was stressed so he lit up a cigarrette. A cop came over and told him there was gasoline on the ground and that he needed to put it out... the same cop a few minutes later was on the side of the highway... smoking!
Six months after I got my license, I took some friends out to eat. My backing up skills still weren't perfected, and I was tryin to keep my Mountaineer from hitting the Camero next to me. I kept backing up... bang. Hit a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. The price-- $800 in damage to his car cuz I hit the airbag sensor. I just had a big dent in my trunk. A few years later, same parking lot, I was backing up in my new Mountaineer that I had gotten that week (we lease cars). Some crackhead came flying thru the parking lot and I hit her. I was flipping out apologizing but she said it was ok cuz I was young and it did no damage to her car. I kept that one from my parents. "What happened to your bumper" "I duno, someone must've hit it in the parking lot". My 3rd Mountaineer, I decided to back up into a spot at my favorite restaurant. I told my friend to watch so I didn't hit the damn lightpole... I'm goin, goin, goin, CRUNCH. Didn't do much damage, just a lil scratch. The same truck, the day I was returning it to the dealer last week, the guy was telling me where to park it, so I pulled up and heard a crunch again, but thank god he didn't notice! I ended up not gettin my new car, so when I got home I looked at the front bumper and it was pretty scratched. On to Mountaineer #4... I just got it a few days ago but I'm looking to keep this one scratch free! |
OMG, vehicular bumper cars!!!!!:)
Age 4, Grandady left me in the car while went into bank. Took it out of gear, rolled backwards across 24 Hwy in rush hour traffic, all cars missed, but I destroyed a cab stand. Coming home from a date sobor, 62 Chevy right in the middle of the grill,, power and light pole, 3 ft around. Sawed it off at the bumper. W scar for Wyatt in forehead 3 Police cars oops. 1 back end torn off, 1 side swipe head on, other just slighly dented! :) Honda, falling asleep, Deep Ditch Deep Water, damn near drowned. Hell, beleive it or not, I am a good driver!:) NAA NOO NAA NOO!:D |

#1, collegian days, on the way back from initation, there was a train stuck on the track so I decided to turn around at a gas station. Unfortunately, I didn't see the fire hyrant and smashed a side of the car. ((There was a cop 2 cars behind me in line but he didn't pull me over after I hit it.)
When we got back to the dorm, I wouldn't look at it, I made a sister tell me, lol. When I called my dad to tell him what happened, my younger brother said my dad had something to tell me. Dad said brother was lying, (of course, lol). Turns out when I went home the next weekend, he had bought a used car for me! The "wrecked" car was the family second car..can't remember why I had it, lol!! Luckily the dent wasn't thattt bad!;) My RED 96 Stratus got hit 3 times!! You'd think they'd see a RED car!! 2002 Altima - had a couple of months. Hubby was coming to work to save me a time driving home since we were heading to south Ga. A dingbat in a Toyota Corolla, which her mom had bought her 3 weeks prior...was driving a stickshift (which she didn't know how to drive!!!)) with a broken arm bandaged up!!!! ((Boy was HER insurance agent surprised at that!!)) Claimed she didn't see hubby when he stopped at the top of the exit ramp. Luckily only damage was that trunk wouldn't close and I think they had to replace a taillight?? Atlanta traffic is why I want hubby to trade in 92 Honda Civic and get a taller car!! But he hates new car prices and any car payments...with over 200k miles, he will trade within the year!! |
I got in a wreck Senior year of high school, like 2 weeks before Homecoming. I rearended my neighbor on the way to school one morning. It was horrible because it was my second ticket and we had the dumb rule that if you got 2 tickets before you turned 18 (my first was a speeding ticket on the way home from work on New Years Day, damn Mt. Healthy cops!) you lost your license for 3 months. I cried the whole time that my neighbors dad felt so bad for me. Everyone knew about it by the time I came to school during 2nd period. The funniest part is that my neighbors sent me a card telling me not to feel bad about it. We still joke about it to this day! My mom tells me I'm the only person who can wreck into someone's car and make them feel bad for me! :p

I've only been in 3 car accidents.
Accident Number One: I was three years-old. My father was driving my mom's father's pick-up truck. Dunno what happened but I remember my mom screaming and throwing me under the dashboard. I remember looking up and seeing my mom's face all cut up and bloody. A family friend was walking by and he walked me all the way to my grandparent's house. Accident Number Two: I was 15. It was July. My family was going out for the evening and before I had to go to my babysitting job my mom offered to let me drive with her to pick up the pizza. I drove the minivan with my mom next to me and grandma in the back seat. Well I didn't have much experience driving and had to pull up inbetween two other minivans. I pulled in but was very very close to the car to my right and not paying attention (nothing that backing up and straightening out couldn't have fixed)...my mom goes AHHH and I FREAK, lose my consintration and hit the accelerator and the brick pillar infront of me (preventing me from making it DRIVE THRU Little Ceasars. Accident Number Three: On the way to the State Speech Tournament I was driving behind my speech coach's car. It had just rained and the light turned yellow and he came to a complete stop. I went to push on the break, hydroplaned, hit his car. Luckily I wasn't going too fast. |
Ive been in 4
1: I was going to work and this lady in front of me on a residential road stopped because the car in front of her turned. To make it worse is that she got out of the car and was 8 months pregnant. 2: I was driving home from a mandatory rush party at 5am. I hadn't slept all week and fell asleep behind the wheel. I was almost home when I hit a neighbors concrete mailbox... 3: I was driving to visit my parents. I was only 5 mins from my fraternity house when a car ran a red light and hit me. 4: Only 3 days after accident #4, I was driving to an exec meeting at our advisor's house when a car failed to yield and hit me in the rental. Many accidents aren't my fault, but the amount of totaled cars i've had in 1 year has dubbed me worst driver in my chapter.... |
