Your favorite 'Blue Eyed' Soul singers....

but first, here is an article of one of my favorite BESSs.

Senusret I 05-28-2003 01:52 PM

Remy Shand and Thicke, fa sho!

Also, I think her name was Taylor Dane? She wasn't "soulful" per se, but she had a powerful voice.

Another Thicke fan, yeah!!!:D
I also like:
Jamiroquai
Remy Shand
Hall and Oates
Boy George
Don't sleep on J.T. (Mr. Timberlake). lol

Can't think of anyone else right now.

Legal Diva 05-28-2003 03:34 PM

Two words. . .TEENA MARIE.

I also like Michael McDonald, Taylor Dane and JT, but they have nothing on my girl.

Senusret I 05-28-2003 04:33 PM

Wow, how could I forget Teena Marie and Hall and Oates!

"I can't go for that....no can do."

blackcoffee 05-28-2003 04:34 PM

I liked Simply Red, George Michael, Madonna and currently feeling Justin Timberlake.

Oh, and I can't forget New Kids on the Block. :)

Sistermadly 05-28-2003 04:51 PM

Word on Taylor Dayne. Her song "Love Will Lead You Back" still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, and makes me get all teary eyed.

He doesn't have blue eyes, but Toshi Kubota is a fantastic singer.. you'd never know (1) he's Japanese and (2) English isn't his native language. I also like old school Hall & Oates (Sara Smile is one of the best songs EVER).

Justin is cute.. just looking at him makes me want to take him and.. well, I'd better not say. ;) He's really matured as a singer, too.

BabyBlue91 05-28-2003 07:34 PM

For the last few months, I couldn't keep Steely Dan's greatest hits out of my CD player. "F.M. (No Static at All)" is a classic, as are "Do It Again" and "Peg," and "Hey 19" is da bomb!

I don't know if they count, but I have just about everything recorded by Swing Out Sister. The "It's Better to Travel" CD (circa mid-1980's) is a great relaxer ... Breakout ... Twilight World ... Surrender.

abaici 05-28-2003 10:07 PM

This was the thread I was looking for...

JON B. He is so down, most of us forget he's white. Also, I love me some Justin Timberlake

I'm sure there are those who don't know who this person is. Dusty was from England. I don't remember any songs, but I know she was from England.

She isn't that short lady that sang with Culture Club on "Church of the Poison Mind?" Who was she? She had the soulful thing going on.

Since we are speaking of the Brits, Lisa Stansfield was my GIRL! "Been around the world and I-I-I...I can't find my baby..."

:D

Peaches-n-Cream 05-28-2003 11:07 PM

Dusty Springfield sang:
I Only Want To Be With You
Son of a Preacher Man
You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
What Have I Done To Deserve This with the Pet Shop Boys

Her most highly regarded album is Dusty In Memphis.

She was born in London in 1939 and died in March 1999. Here is a website about her. http://www.dustyspringfield.co.uk/ :)

kiml122 05-29-2003 08:15 AM

Teena Maria is my favorite of all time.
Philly's own Hall & Oates
I'm feeling me some Remy shand and Justin Timberlake of the new breed, and don't forget my man Jon B.

sharpstyle 05-30-2003 10:03 AM

Teena Marie is my favorite too. I saw her in concert for the first time last summer in DC. I think I cried through half the show...LOL She is a tiny little lady!!

Jon B. / Hall & Oats also make my list.

SkeeWee14 05-30-2003 10:22 AM

Celine Dion is the only one I can think of right now.

Sixsational_08 05-30-2003 12:59 PM

Of course...Teena Marie. I am a huge fan (don't make me go all the back to Wild & Peaceful!)

But I also am crazy for the Average White Band and Michael McDonald (with and without the Doobie Brothers).

BabyBlue91 05-31-2003 01:25 PM

How Could I Forget ...

That he is. Saw him about two weeks ago in San Diego at a smooth jazz :o festival. He was good.

Disclaimer: ST still doesn't really dig smooth jazz...:p

Teena Marie!!!
Wham (George Michael's old group)
Hall & Oates (I love "Sarah Smile")

Re: Re: Blue Eyed Soul Singer

I guess you are right if you think of soul music in the classical sense of the word i.e played on the Black radio stations, I thought of soul in the more philosophical sense meaning the lyrics used touch the soul in some way, shape, or form. As for most of the artists that I mentioned, their songs were actually redone by singers you may deem "soul" artists i.e. Carole King's Natural Woman.

Peace and Blessings

I've known that BC is white since the late 1970s. I think What You Won't Do For Love was released in 1978, on Clouds Records out of Atlanta.

Carole King (Tapestry is one of my all time favorite albums)
Teena Marie is the GIRL
Doobie Brothers
George Michael
Hall and Oates (I LOVE me some Daryl Hall)
Kenny Loggins

This may show my age, but:
The Righteous Brothers

vanda 06-09-2003 02:03 PM

Let me join the bandwagon!

Teena Marie definitely. I always said I was gonna have "Portuguese in Love at my wedding and didn't they have it on the wedding on girlfriends.

Thicke- It's hard to believe Alan Thicke could have a son that can blow like that. My first thoughts were "Jason Seavers son can sang!"

Hall & Oates are the definitve of Blue Eyed soul.

tooicecold1906 06-09-2003 02:50 PM

Remy Shand is off the chains! I also enjoy Hall and Oates and Justin Timberlake...also, if you are into the Neo-Soul sound, check out Christina Aguilera's new joint, "Lovin' Me 4 Me"(when you hear it, you will be quite surprised).

Sahara 06-11-2003 06:14 PM

I had to look twice at the CD cover!!

Diana Krall sounds like a black woman! I recently bought a jazz cd that is a compilation of musicians from waaaay back like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Etta James, etc. Anyway, there was also a song by Diana Krall on it (she's a modern singer and probably the only living person on the CD). Since I'd never heard of her, I looked at the pictures on the CD. I was amazed!

I called this brother Remy Sham, I thought he was overly hyped up because he was white.

Yet another Canadian makes the list! (Diana's from Nanaimo, British Columbia, a working-class town that is DEFINITELY short on soul ;)
