SoCal Greekchat gathering (the sequel!)
 

Hey! Does anyone remember this thread? That get-together was a lot of fun and I thought it would be cool to do another! Who's up for it (before we start setting dates/times)? Post a reply and we'll see if we can get this going.

Ok so let's start throwing out some ideas as to location and time. I live in Orange County and am more available Fridays through Mondays than the middle of the week. I'm also graduating on June 15th (yay me!), so I'll have some more time after that too. I'm down with somewhere in Orange County, or in any county that borders OC. How 'bout the rest of you?

I was one of the Phi Sigs at the GC gathering at Rain Forest Cafe last year. I'm all up for meeting again this year as I had a blast. How about the weekend after you graduate?

Two suggested places:

Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney (and maybe those of us with Passes can meet in the park ahead of time)

What about Dave and Busters at the Block at Orange (or isn't there one at the Irvine Spectrum) that way some of our San Diego friends can join us.

Of course my personal preference is at Downtown Disney just because I can use my pass at the park during the day.

Pick a date and time and I'll pass the word to all my Phi Sig sisters. Maybe we'll get some from Chapman or other So. Cal chapters to come if we give them enough notice. Also, I'll spread the word to the CSUDH Greek community to see if anyone wants to join us from there.

Actually, the weekend after my graduation I'll be in Stockton at the wedding of one of my SAE bros. After that would work. I don't really care what location (Anaheim, Irvine, etc.). Whatever works for the largest number of people.

Let's try this and see how it works:

At the Jazz Kitchen, on the weekend of Fri/Sat, July 11/12, in the evening (maybe in D-land for a couple hours before hand).

Ideas? Changes? Comments? Suggestions?

Lets make it on Saturday July 12th, that way those of us who work until 5 on Friday won't have to battle traffic to try to make it on time.

How about an early dinner on Saturday so we beat the dinner crowd at the Ralph Brennan Jazz Kitchen - say 4:30 or 5:00. (I can already hear the beignets calling my name....)

For those who have an annual pass or want to buy a ticket to go in to the park we can meet in one of the parks at noon or two different groups can meet if some want to do DCA and some want to do DL. Either way those who want to hit a park can meet at noon then head over to meet everyone else at dinner at whatever specified time.

Lets just make sure everyone knows that not everyone is meeting at the Park so the "big" meeting of all the Greek Chatters would be dinner at whatever time we specify.

Hey! And if I'm still working for my current shop, I'll be able to sign in 3 lucky GCers to BOTH parks! Of course, since I'm graduating, depending on when I get my career set up, I may or may be be there still, but we'll see.

Awww, why it is creepy? It was a lot of fun last year and no ackwardness at all from first meeting everyone.

The hardest part was waiting around trying to see who was there for Greekchat and who were just greeks strolling around in your letters. There sure are a lot of Greeks running around Downtown Disney that don't know a thing about Greek chat is all I got to say ;) especially when they were asked if they were part of the greekchat gathering (hopefully a couple have sinced joined GC because of that).

So Bill do we have an official date and time as to when to meet yet? I want to get the info sent out to all the Greeks at CSUDH and all the So Cal Phi Sigma Sigmas. Plus I'm going to post it on the Phi Sig forum to see if anyone can meet us there.

Ok so final answer.... July 12, 5pm jazz kitchen downtown disney ?? Some sisters and I were just discussing a road trip to LA so maybe we could work in a greek chat gathering while bumming around So cal.... it's only a 6 hour drive... :D

Well we were planning on taking a trip to LA anyway... so why not include the GC gathering in our plans this just helps us choose a date... :)

So far everyone seems okay with the date and time suggested so is it officially confirmed? Saturday July 12th at Ralph Brennans Jazz Kitchen at Downtown Disney at 5:00 p.m. for a Greek Chat gathering? I want to start putting the word out.

Hey Glitter how many of you are coming down to LA? Let me know and I can see if I can put a call out to Iota Gamma sisters for places for you to crash to save on Hotel costs.

Also, who wants to meet at the parks around noonish? Do we want to meet outside of the parks around one of the letters in California in front of DCA (Disney's California Adventure)

If you want to then go into DCA please step forward. We'll also need someone to be the leader of that crowd that is meeting.
If you want to then go into Disneyland please step forward. Again we'll need someone to be a leader of this crowd that is meeting.
I have a pass that gets me it to both parks so I can meet up with both groups thorughout the day.

What does everyone think?

Alright folks, it's official!!! :D

Who: As many of y'all can be there!

Some of us might make arrangements to hang out in one or the other (or both) of the two Disney parks for a while before 5pm, but we can figure all that out later.

I so want to be there, but I am 3 states away. I think it would be better to have a gathering with those on greek chat ONLY, because those are usually the ones online and posting messeges and you get to see who is who. If you start inviting everyone from the school or other chapters across the states who will happen to be around that area at that time it won't feel the same. Thats just my opinion. Although, I don't mind meeting other greeks.

Let's try to keep this thread somewhere on the top couple of Greek Life topic pages so that it doesn't get totally buried. This way people won't forget and anyone who might register on GC between now and then will know about it. Thanks! :cool:

Road trips down south are always fun and any excuse to go down there works for me. I was just down there for spring break and a 4 hour drive isn't that bad ;)

Carolyn, are you being serious about IG hookin it up with a place to stay? Wooo hooo. I still haven't met any Socal Phi Siggies yet so I hope everything goes through.

I have some chapter sisters that are gcers that would want to go too, So this might turn into an All Over Cali Greekchat gathering. That is if you all can handle us Northern Cali girls. hee hee ;)

I hope you can make it. It would be great to have HI represented. Although one of my chapter sisters transferred to UH - Manoa last year and is back for the summer so then we'll have two people representing HI.

actually most of the people I'm inviting do belong to greekchat. Some are lurkers while others only post on the Phi Sig forum (or which ever forum) - Most of the greeks at my school are NPHC or Latina/Latino based and may only post on their particular organizations sites. And some of the people who havent joined greekchat may because of this event. That's how I joined Greekchat. One of my sisters told me about last years gathering so I thought I'd better check out what greekchat was and I've been addicted ever since - some of the other Phi Sigs that came last year joined GC as well.

Cant wait to meet everyone and hope that anybody who can plan a road trip to So. Cal for July 12th does.

Here's a thought--
If there are going to over say, 10 of us, and I think it sounds like there will be, we are probably going to need to alert the jazz kitchen about this. I think they have a private room for parties that we can nab if someone calls.
Also, maybe we should create an evite and link it to this discussion so that we can get an official count of who is going.

I'm not sure if they'll take reservations on Saturdays. A lot of restaurants aren't doing that any more on weekends. What we can do if they don't take reservations is make sure we have a count and one person is designated to go put in our name before 5:00 so by the time 5:00 comes around its not too long a wait. Also, from experience last time - a lot of people said they were coming then couldn't at the last minute and other brought friends with them so the numbers would have changed.

Just hopefully everyone will make sure to confirm that week that they are coming and whether meeting to go to the park or just coming for the dinner.

I'm going to try to make it. I have work until about 6:30 on the 12th, most likely, but maybe I can convince my boss otherwise... and she doesn't really post (like, ever), but one of my co-workers is on GC (piphialltheway) and might come with me if I can get her away from her boyfriend for the night.

Can I come too?

I'm currently in Northern California and will probably be living in Las Vegas, NV come July. However, I am originally from Southern California... Can I still come? I have a couple sisters living in the So. Cal area as long as a few aquaintances from other LGLO's. Is it okay if I bring a couple peeps?

i was all stoked to go...but our alumni just bought me and another guy our plane tickets for our men of excellence woodrow willson leadership school, and we leave the 12th...i guess this will be the 2nd socal gc meeting i will miss...

It looks like most of the California GC gang lives down in the southern part of CA.;) I live up near Sacramento. What dates were most people thinking of??:D

The So. Cal GC get together is scheduled for Saturday July 12. And although it says So. Cal any GCers that can make it out for it are more then welcome to come. Most of us will meet at 5:00 p.m. at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. However since some people may be traveling a ways to come in and may want to go to Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure there are plans to meet in front of the parks around noonish for those that want to go play in the parks before dinner. The big gathering will be the 5:00 p.m. dinner thing. About two weeks before we'll need to verify how many are coming so we can see if they take reservations - if they don't then what we can do is someone go early to put our name and number in then just wander around Downtown Disney shops. I can do it because I have an annual pass and will just go visit one of the parks.

by the way. Disneyland shoots off fireworks at 9:30 every night so if we'll be able to watch them from the main entrance plaza after dinner.

I might be able to make it...It's still a bit a ways so I'll know as the date approaches.

Are there any females going from northern or central CA...
 

that will be getting a room the night before 7/11 or staying over on the 12th? If so what hotel/motel? I'm about 7.5 to 8 hrs away from the LA area.

Edited to add: (Sorry haven't been to LA since 1982 ish). Do you have to enter the park to gain access to Brennan's Jazz Kitchen? And if possible is someone going to post the names of the GLOs that will be represented down there? (Please PM me -Thanks.) :)
